GOT MILK???????

Milk seems to be such an integral part of our lives.  We use it in so many food preps.
I LOVE milk!!!  Nothing like a big ice cold glass of mil in my opinion.

Here are a few alternatives when you have no fresh milk.  Using dry, instant milk in these recipes will save us all from an unnecessary trip to the grocery at some point!

SWEETENED WHIPPED TOPPING
1/2 C COLD water
1/2 C powdered milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 C sugar
2 Tbsp. lemon juice

Chill your bowl and beaters in the freezer for a while.  Add the VERY cold water and powdered milk to the bowl and beat till stiff peaks form.  Add the lemon juice and beat 3-4 more minutes.  Add vanilla and sugar and mix well.
Great alternative to whipped cream.    Best if used the same day - as it may separate if you keep it too long.  Nice when unexpected company comes by!

NO COOK SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK
1 1/3 C instant milk
3/4 C sugar
1/2 C HOT water
2 Tbsp. butter or margarine

In blender bowl add HOT water and butter.  Let butter melt.  With blender running add the instant milk and sugar.  Blend till smooth.  Store in an air tight container in the frig for up to 2 weeks.
Makes 16 oz.

BUTTERMILK
1 C water
1/4 C instant milk
 Tbsp. vinegar or lemon juice
Mix all together and refrigerate until thickened (about 18 hours).  Stir till smooth and use in recipes as you would buttermilk.
Need to plan ahead on this one.

So never fear.  If something happens where you can't get out to get liquid milk or if a time comes that none is available - make sure you always keep instant milk on hand.
I have uncovered more recipes that I will be sharing soon.  Instant milk can be a wonderful thing!!!
Another pantry staple that we should all be keeping!

SMILES!

  3. I love DIY-ing these. Only difference I make is using the non-instant dry milk because it takes half as much in the recipe!
