LEARNING

Hello  everyone.  I have been busy this week with all sorts of things, and blogging just kind of slipped by.  OOPS!

I kind of wanted to talk about learning today.  I try to learn something new every day, of course sometimes it may just be a reminder of things 'learned' - and forgotten!
I hope you all strive to learn new things each day.  I guess that is why I enjoy reading blogs and different Face Book pages.  It is just amazing to me, that here we all sit reading and conversing from all over the country and even the world!
HOW COOL IS THAT?
I also love to read all kinds of self help and instructional  books and publications.  There are just so many ways to learn.

People from different regions often cook differently, play differently, and just have different ideas of doing every day things.  I love seeing that and learning.

When it comes to saving money and keeping our pantries, we all have different views.  Saving money is a challenge to me and I love a challenge.  It used to be a necessity, now it is just a way of life.  My pantry is my security for my family.
Many people try to be frugal in many ways, for the purpose of being able to takes vacations, travel, pay off debt, etc..  I just want security.

WHY ARE YOU FRUGAL and WHY DO YOU WANT A STOCKED PANTRY??????
Share you ideas so we can all learn (hopefully something new)!

  1. I'm frugal out of necessity, but having a stocked pantry is freeing as well. One less thing to worry about. Two years ago, my husband had to have radiation everyday for nine weeks...having a stocked pantry meant I didn't have to think about anything but making that 100 mile drive everyday. It was a life saver!

    1. JoAnne, So glad that you didn't have to worry about your pantry during that time. I am sure it saved you time and worry, as well as money.
      Security means a lot.

Hope all is well with your family now.
      Thank you for stopping by.

  2. My frugalness was born out of necessity when I was a single parent and it's just become a way of life. I love having a well stocked pantry it means I always have a gift of jams or jellies if the need arises. And I don't have to go grocery shopping as much. I think if I eat out of my pantry only I can probably go for at least a year.

    1. Laurie it's something that we continue on with our pantries and frugalness even when the situation gets better.
It just makes good sense to me - being good stewards of what we have been given.

I give a lot of food items as gifts as well. It sure comes in handy for that last minute or forgotten gift!

  3. I became frugal while raising my family. My husband work schedule depended on the weather so I learned to stockpile for winters. Now it is a way of life. Now that we are retired it allows us to have money for things we really want but habit causes us to sure we really want it. It also allows me to share it with various charities that are cose to my heart

    1. Hi Colleen
I can totally understand the work situation stockpiling. Many jobs are very seasonal, so it would require planning to provide for your family all winter.

I always second guess myself on purchases and think about it long and hard before making purchases.
It is wonderful to be able to share with others.

  4. I raised my two boys by myself while working several jobs. Keep stocked up and buying on sale was like the hobby I always wanted - one that saved me money and helped me feel secure in taking care of my family. I grew up with a very frugal mom and she could stretch a penny let me tell you. I always thought we were well off (and we were in the ways that really mattered) but when I got older I realize just how poor we really were in terms of money. We had the chickens, huge garden and kids and mom when picking beans and berries for money in the summer so we could buy our new school things. Mom made most of our clothes. She was sure a wonder. I know she picked up small things all year for our Christmas and we never seemed to want for any thing. Childhood was fun but we learned responsiblity to the family. Every Christmas we also got a "kit" to learn something new like making potholders, candles, soap, candy, etc...

Sorry this is so long. What an enjoyable trip down memory lane. Both my boys are grown men now and know how to shop and coupon with the best of them. Clearance deals are hunted out like its a sport. lol
    Take care.

    1. Crystal thank you for sharing your lovely story. My parents were hard working and little money as well - but oh the lessons I learned about life. PRICELESS!
Your boys should be very proud of their heritage - as it sounds like a strong one.

Glad you had a nice visit on memory lane!

  5. I am a little concerned about the upcoming election. I am afraid either way prices may go sky high. God must be nudging me as I have never before felt the need I do now. I have always been a saver, but feel the necessity even more. Have been doing some canning (salsa, green beans, strawberry jam) to help build the pantry. Love your blog!

    1. Hi Sue - Thank you for the wonderful compliment!

I am VERY scared about the election - no matter what the outcome - I think stuff is really going to go downhill quickly.

I agree, if one has never prepped before, this is surely the time to do it. Every little bit helps, and those home canned goods will taste so yummy this winter!
      Have a good one.

  7. I'm with you on the always learning something new. I love to learn and I hope I never stop. Life would be so boring. ;)

I grew up with a very frugal and talented mother who taught me that you could make the best meals, wear beautiful clothing and have nice furniture, all on a strict budget. I think I come by it naturally at this point and to be honest, if I had to pay full price for most things, I would have an anxiety attack. My husband and I raised our 3 boys on one income for so many years and we have been back to 1 income again for the past year. I take great joy and delight in seeking out the best deals and in keeping our pantry and freezers stocked up. If something should happen to my husband and no money was coming in, we would do fine food wise for about 4-6 months. I like to make sure I have a surplus to be able to help our kids and friends also. I pick up great deals for friends and family when I find them.

    1. Sounds like you were raised right and raised your family right as well.
I love that we learned such great lessons from our folks.

I am with you on paying full price for something. I can't remember the last time that happened here. Even major purchases get dickered down!
