Well, here we are in March already. This is known as the windy month in my area! Oh my - February was more than windy enough for me! Tomorrow, we have another wind and rain event coming in. At least yesterday was beautiful. We started the month like a lamb - soon to change!!!
Just a little thought - life is short - have some fun! We can NOT act our age now and then and it is OK! Stand in the rain, play in the leaves, play the music loud, laugh at your own jokes - just enjoy the day. No matter what our situations are, there IS at least ONE thing each day to bring joy or a smile. Grab hold - with both hands!***************
Elise keeps reminding us, and she is right. These are easy and fun!
And we drink this!!!!!!
I remember as a child in the 50's, coming home from a road trip and we were having car problems. It was pouring rain (that sticks in my mind), and daddy stopped at a gas station - went in and bought a Coke and cleaned the connections of the battery. Made it home safely!
We covered the casserole thing - now how about soup? Same principle - no real recipe - just a formula to help one make a great pot of food and not waste a thing!
It doesn't have to be made in a slow cooker (crock pot) - it can be done on the stove as well. There is just an abundance of ideas to use up what we have, and not go out spending more.
Great for those who don't like leftovers - throw them in soup and make something new!
Enjoy this new month and enjoy your day. Remember to smile and laugh at SOMETHING today! Every laugh and smile lifts the spirit a little. That my friends, is a good thing.
Be blessed!
Good morning, Cheryl, and Happy March! I made peanut butter cookies from cake mix on Monday, and we had vegetable beef soup last night using leftover beef roast + steak bone broth from the freezer. It was a satisfying meal on a snowy night.
ReplyDeleteHubs looked it up, and *before* this snow storm, the nearby town of Show Low had 54 inches of snow already this winter. When I woke up before dawn today, there was only a couple of inches of fresh snow. Keep in mind, it melts between snows, but I was happy with this instead of the 6-12 inches predicted! There'll be a little more snow today, then it's highs of upper 40s and low 50s into the weekend. Woo-hoo!
We had a wonderful, sunny last day of February (before the snow). Went out to drop off donations at a local charity thrift store, including a big bag of dog food Diva Blue refused to eat. She's come a long way. And we splurged on an Early Bird dinner that night at a local steak house. It's a rare event... all the more appreciated.
With that, I'll echo your thoughts: "This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24
Bless you, dear lady, and all your readers. --Elise
So much snow - yikes. I bet you will be so glad for spring.
DeleteGlad you got to get out and enjoy some sun.
Bless you as well.
Soup is one of the easiest dishes to make. I like knowing what is in my food. Amazing all the things that Coca Cola can do. Another thing that shouldn't be in our bodies.
ReplyDeleteYup, we all need to have a giggle once in a while! Even more so while the world is going "south" in a handbasket.
Soup is the easiest and really the cheapest. Yep, it is amazing that we drink that stuff and then all that it does!
DeleteWe really NEED to laugh - in spite of the garbage!!!!!
A magazine recipe was inspiration for a chowder made the other day using corn & zucchini from the freezer, potatoes, shredded chicken instead of the ham called for. Delicious. Soup recipes are merely suggestions.
ReplyDeleteMmmm that sounds very good. I agree - when someone asks me for my recipe - I always say "what is this recipe thing you speak of?" LOL
DeleteWow. Great cookie recipe! I don't eat sugar but when we need to bring a little something, this would work wonderfully! And that coke...Oh my. Great info! I'm going to save that information, I appreciate it! Anything to make my life easier is a good thing! lol
ReplyDeleteSugar Free cake mix works, Amelia! So does GF.
Delete--Elise
Yep - sometimes we all just need that bite!!!!! Indeed you can use sugar free cake mix as Elise says.
DeleteThank you Elise! What kind of sweetener does it have if you happen to know off the top of your head? : )
DeleteYes Cheryl, we sure do! lol So nice to have interaction here! I just love that, very nice.
DeleteAmelia, usually it's sucralose. At least for Pillsbury brand.
Delete--Elise
Thank you Elise! I'm unable to have sucralose, it's the same as Splenda. The only artificial sweetener I'm able to have is sachryn, just the old fashioned pink stuff, aka Sweet n Low. : ) Otherwise I use stevia or xylitol. I really appreciate it though! Thanks again! : )
DeleteI love the flexibility of soup. A great way to use up bits and pieces of leftovers. I heard on the news this morning that since February we have been under 8 wind advisories so far. Crazy! Thank you for the reminder to have at least a little bit of fun every day, especially now with everything going on in the world.
ReplyDeleteSoup is always good - it just hits the spot.
DeleteI believe it on the wind - at least once a week here.
We have to make our own joy, as the world doesn't want to give us any!
I love soup! It's another one of those one pot meals. Very nutritious and comforting too.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is a firefighter/paramedic and I will never forget him telling me that they use Coke to clean up blood off the road after a wreck. (Sorry if that is too morbid!) Imagine what this does to the inside of our bodies!
I love one pot meals.
DeleteWell, there you go - another use for Coke. WOW. That is just so amazing and we drink it!
LOL- ah yes--Coke--Diet Coke my weakness I indulge once in a while. I know that it will take grease off a windshield. lol
ReplyDeleteMy hubby loves soup and will eat most any kind. I haven't made those cake cookies in a long time. They are easy and good. xo Diana
I am not a Coke fan - but do like a diet Pepsi now and then. Same garbage I am sure! But it taste so good!!!!!
DeleteI like soup of about any type as well. Those cookies are a fun treat and easy!
I had fun this morning. I'm currently pulling apart the office and trying to thin stuff out. It's a tiny room. Anyway, I found a box of miscellaneous junk in the closet that I brought up from the craft room and promptly forgot about. In that box were 4 cassette tapes from the mid 80s!! One was a Bryan Adams. I have a boom box in my craft room so I tried that cassette out and IT WORKS!! So I switched my cleaning location and rocked out all morning. I'm shocked that it still works! It's from a guy I was dating when I was 21!!!! I'm heading back there after lunch. I'll let you know if Alabama works lol. One was blank and the other is A Christmas Carol by some repertoire group. No idea where that came from.
ReplyDeleteA funny about my boom box. When I went to Target to get one, I asked a young guy where they were. What ensued was hilarious. Not only did he not know what it was, but when an older clerk found the only two in the store, the young guy stared at it a minute and then asked what it was for lol!!! Yeah, I'm old!!
Oldies make the hard feel good. I get in the car and crank up the radio when I go out! I have literally hundreds of cassettes! Everyone single one G bought over the year - same with CD's. Oh, I have all our albums as well!! LOL
DeleteKids today - don't know anything good! I watched a video of high school kids being shown a regular clock yesterday - and they had NO idea how to tell the time.
ROCK ON!
Soup, oh yes, love soup! A friend gave me a big bottle of Spicy V8 juice (a mistake purchace). I made lentil soup with 2 cups of the juice and froze the rest (in 2-cup containers) for later soups. Very good! Did not need to add salt or pepper, just onions and carrots and a bit of barley with the lentils.
ReplyDelete(Hope I haven't posted that already!)

Mmmm - sounds tasty. I used to always make chili with V-8. Not sure why I stopped. Love the flavor.
DeleteWe are soup lovers too. In fact, we sometimes have a hearty soup for breakfast as they do in other cultures. Of late I made carrot top soup from a French recipe. It was delicious, and a clean out the freezer of all odds and ends soup for dinner the other night. Sometimes for fun we watch Guy's Grocery Games and watch how chefs take unrelated and sometimes off the wall ingredients and make a gourmet meal from them. It is inspiring,
ReplyDeleteToday I finished up the card embellishments that I was making from cardmaking scraps. I love creating something for what cold have been a throwaway. They were so much fun to create. The embellishment is actually a paper quilt block. These will be used to make notecards for Christmas gifts and for myself. Cookie
Soup is just such a comfort food. I love watching Guy's Grocery Game, I also like DDD's (from Guy). I can always get an idea or two. He sure does give them some weird ingredients at times!
DeleteYour cards sound lovely. I used to make a lot of cards using my printer and pictures. No printer any longer - so I keep think about doing something else. Homemade cards are such a treat to receive.
We like DDD too. We often wish we could go to some of those places and eat for a week. (lol)!
DeleteThey have done a couple close to me. I have been to one - but went even before it was shown. Now the place is gone, as they retired :(
DeleteI try to make soup once a week, this week though I am using up other leftovers and making new meals.
ReplyDeleteI am loving our nicer weather (though it is windy) while I can. It will be getting cold and we are supposed to have more snow.
God bless.
Soup is so comforting. Good for you on using up leftovers.
DeleteWarmer temps are fantastic - but yep, we will have snow again, I am almost sure. Heck we are having rain, wind and storms today, and they are saying snow flurries tonight!!!! It sure is a crazy season.
Lots of wind here and too much rain. Praying all the trees stay upright!
ReplyDeleteAmen to that! Stay safe.
DeleteHi Cheryl. For several months now the only way I can log onto your blog is to go to another blog that lists yours, and click on that. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks. Cindy/WV
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what could be happening. I am not sure at all - I am so computer illiterate. Hopefully someone on here can help. I will check my settings again, but I haven't changed anything. I am sorry you are having a problem. Thank you for hanging in there!!!!!
DeleteCindy, I have this blog saved to favorites, so I can get to it easily. When I comment (as today), I can either comment as Anonymous, like I'm just now doing, or where it says "Comment as", I can click the down arrow and use my gmail account; it routes me to sign in, then sends me back to the blog. Hope that helps! --Elise
DeleteJust did both so you could see the difference. There should be a down arrow by "Comment as". Then again, if you're using a Smart phone, I'm not sure. I use my laptop. Wishing you luck!
Delete--Elise
Thank you Elise. I hope that helps her. I have my list on here - but some I can't seem to add - so I add them to my personal favorites as well.
DeleteYou are so right, Life is short we need to live and love life as much as we can.
ReplyDeleteYes indeedy! Have a good day!
