The Best Medicine

Hello all.  Boy, oh boy, what a wet morning we have here.  It poured like crazy during the early morning hours - did I say poured?!!!!  The back part of the yard is a lake again.  That happened in like 2-3 hours.  There won't be any garden work for a couple days!  Don't need to water flowers today!
For now, it looks like the rain has moved east.  OOPS - Spoke too soon, it is raining again as I type this!!!
Rain this time of the year, gets many around here all in a fluster.  The track is open, and practice is starting for the 500 Mile race.  People don't appreciate their track attendance being messed with! LOL

My sleep was weird - with some very strange dreams!  Not sure what brought those on.  Nothing disturbing, just strange.
Been out to feed the birdies and squirrels - Licorice hasn't come yet this morning.  He wasn't in the greenhouse, so must have been caught out roaming when the rain started.

Isn't this the truth?  These are the things we should be trying to improve.
Life flies by, as we notice each day and month.  We each one need to leave a legacy that is POSITIVE!!  Being the best we can be, will surely help that!
If we work on those things each day, we make not only ourselves better, but the entire world!
Maybe unplug a bit - turn off the negative - live in the moment.  That doesn't mean not being aware - it just means not dwelling on things.  Your life is going to go on just the same.

Oh how I believe this!  I know many need to take medications for various medical issues.  I am not knocking anyone that does.  BUT for ME - this is medicine.  It is the only medicine I take each day.
There is so much to be said about the natural and the gifts we are given.

The other evening, I was sitting out on the porch.  It has a covering, but the sun was in the west and shining on my glider.  My neighbor came home and asked if I was trying to get a tan.  My answer, "Nope, just getting my daily dose of vitamins".  He laughed, but I meant it!
I love the fresh air and sunshine - it truly lifts my soul and heals my body.
I have been working in the yard a lot (exercise) and trying to walk more.  I am so grateful for all the wonders in my daily life.  Wonderful family and friends.  Good food for my body.  Blessings galore.

Now that the weather is improving for most, let us take time each day to take advantage of the wonders of the great outdoors.  It sure helps!  Work on being a better you each day.  That makes for a better family, neighborhood, city, state, world!  Sounds crazy - but it is true.
Let us be the best we can be.

Have a super day - and enjoy no matter what you are doing!

  1. The rain pounded down during the night. Noisy! Still raining at 8:47 a.m. Glad we got our new plants in the ground yesterday.

I follow a chiropractor on Instagram and she always has good tips similar to the ones you posted. IMHO I think that the best tip is to turn off the negative. Gratitude is also one of the best things for your health. No kvetching and moaning. The bad thing about taking pharmaceuticals is that very often one more is required to take care of side effects from the first one. And on and on it goes. The Farmer and I always say that we are getting free vitamin D when out working in the yard.

Well, I can safely say that we won't have to water today and probably won't be doing anything outdoors. Enjoy your day!

    1. Oh the rain was just crazy. Sun is shining now. I am glad I put nothing in the garden, as there was a lot of standing water there.
I agree - negative whatever can kill us. Some people are just negative in almost every way - and I see nothing but bad stuff happening to them (health wise). I see ads for medication and listen to the side effects - YIKES! The sunshine is our friend, just over do it.
      Yep, no watering here either!

  2. The rain is supposed to start today, but we aren't expecting much. We could sure use it, as everything is so dry and wildfires are a threat.
Sleep is definitely my best medicine...I'm not so big on exercise unless it is gardening or walking.

    1. I wish we could have sent you our rain. They said we got like 3" in a just a few hours overnight.
I do not exercise either other than outdoor work or walking. I have tried, it just isn't my thing. A good night's sleep is a gift!

  3. It's sunny and beautiful here today. Tomorrow is supposed to be very hot and then storms with a cool front on Friday. Crazy weather.
A positive attitude is essential for good health too.

    1. It is sunny here now - but boy oh boy the rain came down!
      It is crazy.
Yep, being positive does so much for a healthy mind and heart and body.

  4. It was overcast when I got up and took pup out first thing this morning, but the sky has since cleared and the sun is shining. Looks to be some clouds building to the west, but no rain is predicted until tomorrow.

For those looking for inspirational reading, I can highly recommend Max Lucado's Anxious for Nothing: Finding Calm in a Chaotic World. Our group is currently on Chapter 7, Great Gratitude, and it so fits your post today, discussing how if we are grateful for what we have, we can avoid the "If Only" trap that leads to a feeling of incompleteness, envy, stress, and materialism-caused debt. My favorite quote from the chapter -- "No more "if only." It is the petri dish in which anxiety thrives. Treat each anxious thought with a grateful one, and prepare yourself for a new day of joy."

    1. Glad your weather is decent.
Max Lucado has always been a favorite of mine. He writes nothing that isn't true and meaningful. I agree "if only" can really complicate so many people's lives. I really try not to be envious.
Your last sentence is just perfect. I try so hard to live a grateful life - God is so good. Each day a gift.

    1. Yes mam. Some folks get so much from their work - and that is very therapeutic! Things that give us joy and happiness are good for life.

  6. The rain is coming down here today and is supposed to continue for a good length of time. I so hope this is helping with the fires in the west here in Canada. So many, so early in the season. It is very scary.

    God bless.

    1. I sure hope the rain helps as well. I am so thankful that I have never had a problem like that around here. That has to be very scary for all.

  7. If you could get the benefit of exercise in a pill, it would be the most popular drug in the world -- but the pharmaceutical companies would probably charge a ransom for it!

As a red-head, I make my own vitamin D, allegedly. But I make sure to get out in some legit sunshine because it's a necessary way to take in the precursor to it. Plus, the feeling of sun on your shoulders is one of the most awesome things I can think of. J am hoping for more sun and a little less rain!

    1. LOL - you are probably right.
I agree - the feeling of the sun is fantastic. We sure had some rain yesterday morning. I am done for a while! I guess we are never satisfied.

  8. Sunlight is really amazing. It provides more benefits than just vitamin D. I won't list them as it's easy to Google & read about. But there's something to how good it feels to be outside on a sunny day!

    1. Sunlight provides an immense amount of help for our bodies. I truly crave sunlight. The great outdoors was named that appropriately!

  9. I agree 100% with the thoughts in this post. My youngest is recovering from a vicious dog attack, two surgeries and 212 stitches later, his surgeon has told him the best things for his wounds, both physical and mental, is SUNSHINE.
He has moved back home while recuperating, so between motherly love, good food and sunshine, he will be back to normal in no time.
    Take care, Louise.

    1. Oh my goodness, I am so sorry to hear that. How awful that had to be. Many prayers for a complete and quick recovery.
Yes momma's love and the Lord's sunshine and he will surely be well soon!
Glad to hear a doctor say that!
