Making Choices

Hello all.  I sure do hope this finds everyone safe and sound.  There were some very scary storms blow through last evening.  Man oh man.  We had 70 mph gusts and some had 80.  Lots of damage all over the state and many thousands are still without power.  It basically went from west to east and the system covered the entire state from tip to tip according to the weatherman.
I had a lot of limbs down - some decent size ones.  There are branches from my trees, 2 doors down!
Amazingly it hurt nothing for me.  A huge limb came down and wrapped around the handrail (I had trouble getting it loose) but hurt nothing.  (that limb had to be dragged out back, it was heavy).  Over the greenhouse and garage, over the wires - in the neighbor's yards and nothing was hurt.  I went to get a limb way out back (away from trees), standing straight up like a tree and it was a good 4" in the ground!
God sure had me covered.  I feel so blessed and lucky.  I pray all are OK!!!!!

Licorice showed up to eat, just as it was hitting.  He ran and hid under the deck and greenhouse.  After all was over the poor kitty came and ate!
This morning is much less humid feeling; it is cloudy and drizzling rain.  Should be a little cooler today - then the heat comes big time by the weekend and through next week.
Storms are the part of summer that I don't like.  A couple days and we will have summer solstice here in the north!

Boy oh boy, is this right.  It applies to about everything.
Life is all about choices and the results of those choices guide our lives.

Whether it is choosing a partner, a job, a home, or how you spend your money - all take your life in different directions.
How you eat and what you eat and what you do can change your health.
How you spend or don't spend can change things.

You don't have to do without to have bank account or to pay something off.  Just cut back here and there, then add little amounts as often as possible - it can change your debt and can change your savings.  Concentrate on what you want to achieve and then take steps in the right direction.  Good things can happen if you choose to make changes and take the chance to move forward.  Little steps are better than no steps.  Just do something.
THINK before you spend.  Consider wants and needs.  I guarantee most of the things many of us spend money on are NOT needs!  We truly need very little to survive and thrive.  I know that goes against what most people think, but we really NEED very little considering what we seem to think.
Choices!!!!!!!
Take that chance to change your situation!

Have a safe a lovely day to all.
Please check in, if you were in line of the storms!

  1. I'm glad you had no real damage. All of the storms stayed north and south of us. We had a lot of wind but no rain or damage and it was SO humid I thought for sure we'd see a storm.
Have a great day and stay cool.

    1. Thanks. Glad they missed you. The rain was blinding and that wind - oh my! This morning feels pretty nice here - I just got back from an extra long walk!

  2. We had storms too, the thunder was loud enough to shake the house! Then rain, but it seemed mostly thunder. Wow!

Glad you had no serious damage. I didn't see any here either. At points the rain was heavy, but oooh, that thunder! It was *right here* over my house! Yikes!

It all blew away by bedtime, so I slept well. :)

    No watering today!

    1. That noise is scary. Yes, sometimes the house does seem to shake.
Glad all is ok for you and your area. I like it when the storms end well before bedtime!!!! Those overnight ones are the scariest.

  3. That was a doozy of a storm, and I think your damage was worse than ours. It blew the lawn chairs over in the backyard and knocked down the Farmer's miniature corn. Not sure if it will grow even if we straighten it up. Small limbs down from the sweet gum trees and that was all. I sure do dread the high temps coming.

Got up this morning to diminished water flow. Apparently there was a water main break on Girls School Road, which is just to the west of us. They repaired it quickly and I'm doing laundry before I take the Farmer to his eye specialist appointment.

Made a rutabaga salad yesterday that is quite tasty. We don't eat potatoes because of the starch and this was an excellent substitution. Enough left for lunch along with the rest of the tri-tip we baked yesterday.

Poor Licorice! He was probably glad when the storm moved on.

    Enjoy your weekend!

    1. Glad you had no big damage. Yes, it was a doozy of a storm.
Wow, glad they got it fixed quickly. I did a big walk while it was cool, now laundry is in order.
Did you make like potato salad or did you use them fresh in salad?
Oh he was so scared. Just as he got to the back porch (where his food usually is) that wind hit big time - he went running faster than I have ever seen him move. I had to call for a while to get him out!!!

    2. It's like potato salad, hard cooked eggs with all the other goodies, lots of celery.

  5. I’m glad you had no damage. My area is still recovering from last fall’s hurricanes with many homes still uninhabitable - and here we are in hurricane season again.

The change I’m making is more decluttering. I’ve already decluttered a lot but now I’m letting go of sentimental items. I have no close family. It’s hard but it feels good.

I had a nice financial surprise a few minutes ago. Months ago I bought a ticket that I will be unable to use. Cost was about $144 so disappointing. No refunds but still I emailed the place and told them to let someone else use it or resell it and hopefully I’ll be able to attend next year. They emailed me and said they WOULD refund the ticket to my credit card. A very pleasant surprise!

    1. Thank you. That is all just so sad to think people still do not have homes to live in.
Decluttering seems to be an ongoing thing. Sentimental items would be difficult if no one close to give them to. Hopefully they will be received as a blessing to someone else.
How wonderful on the refund. That is a good deal of $, so glad that they did the right thing!

  6. Wow on those storms! God sure was looking out for you. I'm glad you are safe and sound. I know those limbs can get heavy trying to move some of the bigger ones, so please be careful.

    1. They were pretty darn bad. I was more than blessed. They are all moved - just need to cut them up at some point! A little at a time.

  7. You and licorice dodged a bullet, looks like your guardian angel was on duty that day. I've never seen the three C's of life saying, although I practice them after some financial knocks of a few years ago. Good advice now, especially with the media and social media pushing a borrow/spend lifestyle unattainable for most.

    1. We were very blessed.
It makes good sense for sure. We need to be ever mindful of our decisions in life. Someone is always trying us to be frivolous with our funds, and that is not a good thing.

  8. I think we are in for some wild weather this summer. I am glad you didn't sustain any damage. And you are right, the choices we make today, affect the situations we face tomorrow.

    1. I guess it is to be expected. It is the one thing I don't like about summer. Bad storms and extreme humidity.
Amen. Out todays are help make out tomorrows. Good or bad - it is all about choices and decisions.

  9. Gosh, that storm sounds vicious. I am glad that you and the kittie are both ok. I've never heard the 3 C's saying before, but it is a very good way of putting it.

    1. We get these nasty storms a few times each summer - I have been so lucky. Not everyone has been.
It is a very good saying - and very true. We should always be mindful of our choices in life.

  12. I had huge trees significantly trimmed in April bc one of my neighbor’s trees was hanging over my house. One of her trees came down and damaged my roof during hurricane Zeta. Luckily, I had the front trees trimmed enough this year that there was no damage when we had our April storms. It is over 90 with a heat index between 105 to 110 now. I am sure grateful for my new air conditioning/ heating unit, which replaced one ruined by lightning a couple of years ago. My youngest son grilled and gave me a lot of meat this morning. I don’t eat much meat so it is enough to last for a month! It is also delicious! Cindy in the South

    1. Trees can cause a lot of damage. Glad you had them trimmed.
It is very hot here today as well. This morning was wonderful and breezy - but it heated up quickly.
How wonderful on all the grilled meat. I really like grilled meat - it has such a good flavor.
