Hello to all my sweet friends. Goodness sakes, here we are halfway through another month. Geesh it will be fall before we know it! I hope this finds you all well today.
It feels a little cooler this morning, but that air - you could wear it! It is so humid. We did get showers off and on yesterday and Friday. My little garden plants seem to be loving it, and they are growing. I have a couple tiny tomatoes and lots of blooms, a couple little peppers and blooms, and plenty of blooms on the zucchini - although they all seem to be male at the moment!
It appears summer is HERE! Looks to be 80's all week with chances of rain.
Fireworks have already started here. Individuals have been really setting things off in the past couple weeks - last night was a big one but stopped at a decent hour. There have even been some illegal ones again (sound like bombs) and they shake the house. There were 4 of those yesterday!
I have a sparrow nest on the porch, and it appears they have hatched and are flying. But I did see momma and the young-in out in the lawn yesterday, and the mom was still feeding baby. There was that sweet birdie mouth wide open! So sweet.
It has been a fairly quiet week around here. Nothing real exciting. Just trying to be thrifty and a good steward!
- I did several walks before the heat of the days started - early
- Dead-headed loads of flowers
- Aired the house when I could (not as often as I wished)
- Weeding, mowing and trimming. Trimmed both sides of my fence on both neighbors (Grrrr). I went through 2 batteries for weed whacker 2 X each on one day.
- Laundry and using dehumidifier water
- I did run out to get eggs. Kroger special 18 count - 3.49 (through this Tues.). I got 2 cartons of 18 each. I also got a few peaches and that was it.
- I hard boiled 7 older eggs I had to have for snacks.
- Made a gallon of raspberry tea
- Vacuumed/scrubbed all the floor surfaces really well - tile, hard wood, carpet, throw rugs and registers
- Cooking from home and using leftovers & using things I have found in freezer/fridge
- Made a small batch of fruit salad
- Dusting, cleaning and all the usual stuff
Meals this past week:
Mac cheese, salad and tuna patty
Used leftover beef/veg to make "tot"chos (tots in air fryer)
Salad and sliced cheese/crackers
Quesadilla and salad
Naan bread pizza (air fryer), salad later in day
Chicken strips and fries (air fryer), fresh vegs
3 cheese, jalapeno/bacon Naan bread (air fryer)
Snacks have been fruit and salad
Pretty quiet. I did set out on the porch now and then, when it wasn't too muggy or raining. I do go outside and walk the yard several times a day - and admire that the garden is growing and talk to the squirrels! LOL
Life has been quiet lately. Love that, no drama, and just enjoying each day with my little buddy.
How has your week been? What have you all been up to? Any good deals this week?
I haven't heard from some of you in a while - missing you.
I love we had so much chatter this week on 'looking back'.
I hope you each have a wonderful week ahead and stay safe and healthy. Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
Psalms 34:1
Dear Lord, again we thank You for all the blessings in our lives and the joys we get to experience. Help us each one to spread Your word and love, no matter what is happening in the world or in our lives. Let us each one make the day a bit brighter somehow for someone. May goodness follow us all. Amen
The 5 blank days on the calendar came to fruition. I stayed home 4 of those days doing household chores, reading (3rd Kate Quinn book - The Briar Club), napping. A bathroom tap handle is leaking & I'm attempting to fix it with the aid of youtube instruction video. Now I just need to get the right parts! It's taken 4 trips to town! Brought a metric allan wrench set home; needed an imperial set = 2 trips. Brought the wrong replacement parts home; turns out the bathroom taps are delta not moen = 2 trips. It's not the only bathroom in the house so I'm not making special trips. The wooden porch bench was restained & looks like new. There was .5" of rain this past week; so badly needed. Visited with cousins camping at a local lake. And attended the neighbor little's 4th BD party. She was so excited. She reminded me that kids grow up & become adults. "That's just how it works." In the kitchen: fish salad, wheat salad dessert; tikka masala pizza using up the last of the coconut rice; roasted trout; broccoli salad; mediterranean pasta salad. Have a good week, Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteYAY glad you stayed home and did things around the home and read and napped!!!! It still sounds like you were quite busy running - but you did something for you. Sometimes we need to do that. Hope you get all that plumbing issues taken care of. I have fixed toilet a couple times and faucets - really not too bad of a job.
DeleteWhat a sweety. Sadly they do have to grow up. 4 is a great birthday!
Meals sound tasty.
Have a super week.
Excellent devotional and prayer! So much for which to be thankful, and to share with others. Let us be a good example and encouragement for our neighbors.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful sky reminds us of the greatness of the Creator. I follow an author who lives outside Nashville TN and she posts some of the most beautiful sky captures.
You had a busy week with cleaning and tidying up. Trying to do garden work and keep up with housework gets to be a chore.
Gardens are beginning to look promising! We have been eating broccoli, turnips and green onions. The cucumber vines have babies as do the tomato plants. Pretty much the end of the strawberries until the ever-bearers produce again. I noticed the dill, which had been tiny, suddenly grew and I need to use it. We do have yellow zucchini ready for harvest.
With these hot, muggy days, I will miss having windows open and the patio door open for the dogs. It was bound to happen. A quiet life, no drama is my jam. Our neighborhoods won't be quiet for a few weeks, at least until all the folks have run out of fireworks and money.
Give you little furbaby a snuggle for me!
Thank you. I lived a year in the 70's in Nashville, TN - such beautiful country. It has grown so much now - but the outer parts were sure fun.
DeleteThere is something to do around here all the time - it doesn't end. It is nice to just be home and do things when I want. Been weeding today already.
You are doing good to have garden pickings already! They rain and heat have made things shoot up!
I know - Bits loves the windows open too. He now sits and just looks out and makes "sad" noises! LOL
Crazy people - spend so much money on things that just blow up. I don't get it. Yep, it will be a month or so before it stops for the most part.
Have a wonderful week.
Good morning Cheryl, thank you for the lovely prayer and devotional. All good here in Phoenix…on the minus side the temps are above 110 sometimes. On the plus side, that has chased away the snowbirds and the tourists, so the roads are deserted. It will be 111 here today so this morning at 6, I cleaned off my patio and grilled two hamburgers. No way I would grill during the day ;). So lunch today and tomorrow is cooked, grill is clean, and I am proud of my lazy self! Take care and have a good week. Hilogene in Az.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Oh goodness, that is hot! So glad we don't have those temps here. Very smart to grill in the early morning - good thinking! I try to do what needs done early, and it isn't that hot here.
DeleteTake care and stay cool. Glad the roads are now clear!
Have a great week.
Great devotional!
ReplyDeleteShowers every day now, nothing torrential. Seeds are up and I'm hopeful, but it's early days yet. Who knows when the deer and bunnies will come? Mosquitoes are up and busy, that much I do know. :(
Cleaned out the gutters again, they were full of cicada debris (tiny twigs and dead bodies).
Stray tomcat showed up again this week - he tried to come indoors! Ally was not pleased at that idea and hissed at him. I don't really want him indoors, afraid he'll spray to mark territory and then I'll never get rid of the scent. He's very sweet though, and napped on my back step for much of the afternoon. :)
MaryB
Thank you.
DeleteShowers are nice - soft and steady. I haven't noticed mosquitos yet, but I am not out later in the evening. Oh yuck on the gutter gunk.
Well, maybe they can appreciate each other through the doors! Bits and Licorice do that. Bits gets so excited to see him. Yes, you have to be careful letting it in. I hope it has a comfy spot to rest.
Have a beautiful week.
I love having a life with no drama. It's just the best. Muggy is definitely the word of the day here too with all the rain we've had, but that's ok because it will be cold again before we know it. And the older I get the more I prefer the warmer months of the year. When I was young, I was the exact opposite. How neat to see the sparrow nest on your porch. They are just the sweetest things. I had a Sunday School teacher who had one in a covered plastic container that she would show us from time to time.
ReplyDeleteOh the muggy meter is off the charts. I am with you - give me hot over cold these days!
DeleteI love the birds and really need to power wash out there, but have been waiting for the babies to be flying. Sure didn't want to disturb her on the nest.
Have a super week.
I just worked a lot, walked in my neighborhood for exercise (four hours this week), and tried to stay hydrated bc it is hot here!. I am eating a lot of watermelon, farmer’s market
ReplyDeletetomatoes ( mine drowned from all the rain) and salads because it is too hot to cook much…. oh, and ice cream… lol. I have tried to keep the windows open (they are screened) as much as possible and use a fan but when it hits 90 I generally give up and turn on the air. I keep trying to save money on my electric bill because everything is so high now especially insurance on house and car…. Whew. Cindy in the South
Staying hydrated is so important. I carried a water bottle a lot outside this week. Eating watermelon sounds like a better way to hydrate to me! Sorry your mators got drowned.
DeleteI open windows early if not too muggy, but dang it is humid. 90 is too much for me - I would have AC on.
Take care and stay cool.
Have a great week.
I have been staying close to home except for the day we booked our trip and a coffee visit to a friend over the past week. I love staying home and getting things completed. I have blank days next week which is lovely. The week after is a bit filled though due to the village Harvey grew up in having their 100th birthday.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
God bless.
I totally understand liking being home and enjoying the quiet of it all. That sounds like a neat thing to go to - have fun there.
DeleteHave a great week.
I only have a small garden and a courtyard as well, and both were a real mess when I moved here just over 2 years ago. When I come home from somewhere I often stroll slowly past and admire what I have done to get it looking so much better.
ReplyDeleteThat is lovely! How wonderful to know that you worked so hard and now it is so pretty. I get it. I just like looking at my yard and flowers and things too. Make you proud!
DeleteHave a super week.
Hi Cheryl. Please can you tell me how to make raspberry tea? Sounds delicious
ReplyDeleteIt is just the tea bags I bought. You can buy a lot of flavored tea bags, and I had raspberry in the pantry. I also have peach. I wish I had a special recipe to share.
DeleteHave a good week.
This is a gardener's dream time, all my plants are in full bloom. The only issues here are aphids and spider mites, which I found the remedy of spraying with the hose to be the easiest quick fix. Too bad the acceleration of the Israel/Iran war is a distraction, with the rise of oil prices threatening to ramp up inflation, people better pray that they don't block shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz.
ReplyDeleteGlad everything you have is blooming and growing. Buggers are always an issue on some things. I like using Neem - it is really good.
DeleteHave a great week.
We have been settling into our new routine with my hubby retired, but it's been strange to adapt my schedule. But I will take quiet and boring any time! Now that it's summer, I think we will all be using our air fryers a lot more too.
ReplyDeleteHappy retirement. That is a big change - I am sure you will get into a new routine quickly.
DeleteI really like using the air fryer now that it is hot. I don't have to heat the house up with the oven, while trying to keep it cool.
Have a super week.
I'm looking forward to getting home so I can check on my plants. My daughter has been keeping an eye on things and watering, but she doesn't enjoy it as much as I do. The tomatoes I started indoors are doing well, not sure about the peppers. She told me this morning that the peas in the garden are doing well too.
ReplyDeleteThere isn't anything wrong with a quiet week, I'd welcome one right now. :)
Safe travels. It is always nice to get home, no matter where one travels to. I hope everything is doing great for you.
DeleteNot a thing wrong with quiet.
Have a super week.
I enjoyed the look into the past, we had the table set in yellow too! I remember everything on the list, so adorable and such a sweet time. It's too bad people have bought into the culture so much not questioning things.
ReplyDeleteWe were having a busy week of sorts, lots of rain and storms. I was finally able to finish a very lightweight navy/charcoal color cotton skirt with belt. Finally. I plan on wearing it with a red and white striped top for the 4th. I found a darling beaded red, white and blue necklace for a dollar at an antique store yesterday, and also bought a white one too. I'm learning this antique store is my one stop shop for beaded necklaces!
It's good to see nice conversation here on things we remember, it's always good to have a conversational blog in my humble opinion. : )
Have a sweet and blessed day, Amelia
Hi Amelia - glad to have you stop by. The 50's and 60's were such good times in my opinion. I know not everyone feels that = but I loved it, and would love to step back.
DeleteI bet the outfit will be lovely. One you find a good little second hand shop - it sure pays to stick by it. Glad you find some lovely things there.
Thank you and you have a blessed week.
