Hello to all. May you all be safe and healthy on this Thursday morning. It is a cool and crisp morning here. Love it. We start getting warmer, and we may hit 90*F by Saturday. Not going to complain at all. Those warmer temps will be so very missed one day soon (sooner than we want). The humidity levels are down, so things won't feel as bad.
Today is a somber day for America. It is the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I remember that day like it was yesterday. So many senseless deaths and such destruction. I remember going to moms after work to be with her that evening (she was so very ill at that time). My sis was there, and the TV was on. As ill as momma was, she sat there silently and then looked at us and "what is wrong with the world?"
Here we are 24 years later and still pondering about that question.
This has nothing to do with politics (DON'T go there), it has everything to do with decency and love.Life is short, and it is truly fragile. Things can change in an instant. I just want us all to be the best that we can be.
Any of you that have lost a loved one in life, know. They sure wouldn't want any of us to act ugly to others. They would want us to go out in this world and do good. They would want us to be pleasant and say a kind word.
Yep - it sure is. As you sit and remember someone that is no longer in this world, or someone you haven't seen in ages - whatever the reason - and SMILE, be that kind of person. That is what kind of person I want to be. Someday when I am not here, I want people to smile when they speak or think of me. I don't want to be remembered as that grouchy, hateful, negative person - but a happy one.Leave a good mark in this world!
I thought long and hard about today's post - I wasn't sure what I wanted to write about. Then I sat down this morning at the computer and this is what came out. I do believe God moves us in a direction that we should go.
I want you to all smile today. Remember someone not around. Make someone else smile.
Go forward and be a positive impact on this world. Go the GENTLER WAY!
Thank you for all being here. You all make me smile!
Have a blessed day.
Cheryl, I so appreciate you being the positive happy person that you are. Take care, Louise
ReplyDeleteThank you mam. Somedays it is work!
DeleteAnd, you make us smile!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteCheryl,
ReplyDeleteI went to my parents house after work that day, and as we had our afternoon coffee my parents were asking the same thing. Hearing that from my parents whom I considered wise and calming was a hard hit that day. They didn't have the answers either.
I would never want to be considered mean or grouchy, I want to be remembered with love and laughter.
JC
I remember a lot of things from that time - but mom saying that and the sound of her voice - will never leave me. I, like you, always looked to parents for answers and when they questioned - well it truly affected me.
DeleteMe too! Love and laughter - a great way to be remembered.
A perfect post for the day and every day. Go the gentler way is great advice. Thank you. Lynn, Pecos, NM
ReplyDeleteThank you. It just seems way too much has changed with people, and it frustrates me so. We all need a gentler way!
DeleteThe post is perfect for today. Thank you for always sharing kindness and love. It is what we all need right now in this world more than anything else.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Today the world is frustrating for sure. We all need a gentler touch and a kinder word.
DeleteI do remember that day too. We live about 1 and half hours outside of NYC in a community with many commuters including parents of my high school students. Until they heard from their parents, they were hysterical. We have some from our community that died that day including one of my previous students who had just started his first job !
ReplyDeleteI cannot imagine the horror that people went through in and around that area. The not knowing. Hysterical would be the only thing you could be! Just sad a horrible day in history for the US and the world.
DeleteBless you my dear friend. You only create positive and that is a rare thing in this day and age.
ReplyDeleteThank you. There is enough negative in this world, I just want to leave a little sunshine.
DeleteI still tear up when I remember the speech given by the Master of my daughter's college when she graduated. He said that his biggest hope for graduates was not that they would have fantastic careers or earn large rewards, but that they would go out into the world and help to make it a better place by choosing to do good things for others.
ReplyDeleteOh my, what a wise man that was. Careers and stuff are nothing, if we can't leave this world a better place. Being there for our fellow man is the most important.
DeleteI remember too. I came to work and my then boss was listening to the radio. He said that a plane hat hit the WTC, big damage . We thought it was an accident... until the radio announcer screamed that another plane had hit... We could hardly believe it. And we were certain a large number of innocent people would be blamed for this. Which unfortunately turned out to be true. There were places where anyone who looked "foreign" in clothing was at great risk of being attacked by angry US citizens. We did *not* expect to hear of people in the US cheering the destruction, but there was that too. So sad.
ReplyDeleteMy present boss has his birthday on this day, so when he came in, I sang Happy Birthday to him and said I was glad to have a happy note for this day.
MaryB
It was a sad, sad day in history. So much senseless loss. It is one of those days of my life I will never forget.
DeleteSweet of you to sing happy birthday!
I remember the day well. I was supposed to host a baby shower for a co-worker at a local restaurant. We postponed it. In our office we had one old black-and-white television with aluminum foil on the antenna. We all gathered around it to watch the one channel, CBS. The aftermath with people posting photos of missing loved ones was heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteToday was a lot of fun. I visited a museum with a friend and went out to lunch. A long day but so nice.
We had an old TV at my office as well. I lived close by, and came home and got it - we were glued to it. I would say that was not a productive day anywhere.
DeleteWhat a fun day for you - I bet you had a wonderful time!
I remember each minute of that day. What I was doing and where I was going. Life is meant to be spent with both good and bad things happening. I really try hard to remember the good things, like Canada opening their doors to thousands of people turned away from American airspace.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I agree. I remember the skies being so quiet for a while! So many places helped stranded fliers and even opened their homes to them. There was so much kindness too.
DeleteToo bad people didn't stay as caring as the days directly after that event.
Amen! I completely agree with you! Thank you for making this dark world a bit brighter!
ReplyDeleteThank you - very kind words.
DeleteI put a long sleeve shirt on yesterday and it felt great. I know it won’t be long before I’m adding another layer to that too. 😂
ReplyDeleteI do believe that God leads us in certain directions. And I believe that he hears our prayers and takes care of us too. Some young people in my life don’t believe in Him and what he does for us and that makes me sad. The world is definitely changing and not always for the best, but we can be kind and not be ugly to others. Those people who’ve gone wouldn’t want us to be that way and neither do I want to be that way.
I did the same a couple days this week! Come today it all changes for a good other week back to hot!
DeleteIt is sad when people are nasty and mean, and yes God makes such a difference. I wish all knew Him and accepted.
Life sure has a lot of twists and turns, and I find it all easier with God.
Thank you for a positive uplifting post Cheryl. This has been a hard week and it is easy to get discouraged. May we all be kind to each other and spread positive energy. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome. A lot has gone on this week and it sure can be discouraging. I think our job in this world is to uplift and help others in some way - we sure need it.
DeleteIt was truly a very sad day. Those old enough to remember it can recall where they were and what they were doing.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. There are a few of those days in my life - and I remember vividly.
