Hello all and happy Sunday. Hoping this finds you well and safe and in good spirits.
It was in the 40's this morning when I got up and light rain. It rained most of the night, and it is very cloudy out right now. This week we get a sneak peek of April with temps that will be warming nicely for part of the week.
Crazy as it sounds, there is still white stuff on the ground in places, three weeks out. The yards across the street have the most, they all face north.
The singing birds sure do sound like spring! Morning, noon and early evening they are singing. I have seen more robins. Loving it! The younger kitties are so stinking playful! Running, jumping, chasing and exploring - fun to watch (getting big).
Sis has been moved to rehab. She is still very weak and having trouble getting around. I thank you in advance for continued prayers, they mean so much.
- Visiting with sis
- Earlier in the week, I cleared and cleaned the downspouts out of ice and snow to keep them flowing when melting started
- Lots of laundry
- Mopped the floors and washed all the throw rugs
- Trimmed the sides of my hair (my wings)!
- After melting really started and temps warmed up a bit, I got out and picked up lots of sticks and raked up peanut shells and sunflower seed hulls - it looks so much better
- Did a little sewing
- Got to open the kitchen door a couple afternoons for airing out!!!
- Ran out Friday to Kroger and got 5 lb. mandarins, seedless grapes, mini tomatoes, cat litter and cat treats - all FREE w/GC and got 4X points for gas discount next month
- Stopped at thrift store while out - loaf of bread and pack of buns FREE. 1 gallon of 100% OJ $1
- Using what I have and cooking from home
Meals in the past week:
Baked beans, chicken fingers and side salad
Baked beans & cheese over toast (open face) and salad
Chicken and veggie roll-up and potato soup (freezer)
Baked potato topped w/hamburger stew (freezer), cheese and sour cream
Bacon and veggie sandwich and bean soup (canned)
Smoked sausage sandwich (bun) and side salad and fruit
Shrimp w/sauce, baked mac & cheese (air fryer) and side salad
SNACKS - popcorn, fruit
Not a whole lot to report. Just doing all the normal stuff. Waiting for the warmer temps to get here and stick around.
The yard and surrounding area are pretty brown looking, but it still looks neat and clean to me! I love seeing something other than white.
I have a busier week coming up with a couple luncheons and visits. It looks to be decent weather.
I hope each of you is doing good and that your families are doing well. Many still are in need of prayer for themselves and their families - please keep all our friends in your thoughts. Wishing you all a lovely week.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.
Proverbs 27:1
Lord, thank You for the many blessings and joys that we each received this week. Help us each realize that the very tiny things we experience are also blessings and joyful. May we all plan for tomorrow but realize that what comes forth is Your will. Life is short and we all need to make the most of each precious moment. Thank You for Your gifts. Good and bad, life is full of moments that we may not understand, but they are a part of each life. Help us to embrace them and know that You are always with us. AMEN

Cheryl sending prayers to you and your sister. Joyce pa
ReplyDeleteThank you very much.
DeleteHave a blessed week.
So important to remember that *every* life is full of things we don't understand, some of them are "bad things". We should learn to be grateful anyway? What lesson is here?
ReplyDeleteOur church showed a movie about Corrie Ten Boom. She and her sister were in a concentration camp in Germany in WW2. Their building was overrun with fleas which drove everyone to distraction. Her sister was grateful for the fleas... they kept the soldiers out of their building! You may not see what good is hidden in what looks like a bad thing.
My world now is wet and brown - the snow is gone though it is still cold. I am happy to see the brown, soon it will be green. :)
Prayers for your sister, Cheryl.
MaryB
That is so true. There is generally some lesson to be learned. That little story sure does prove it, doesn't it? That probably saved their lives.
DeleteWet and brown here as well. Yes, the brown is glorious at this time - spring will be here soon.
Thank you so much. Every prayer is heard by our Lord.
Have a beautiful week.
I know that we live fairly close to each other in Indy, but I have never heard of a thrift store with food. Could you share that info? I am a thrift shopper junkie.
ReplyDeleteIt is at the Humble Impressions on Troy Ave (close to Beech Grove around 25th). There is a new one on Madison and Epler, yet I have not found it open yet. They did tell me that Humble Impressions will soon have a food pantry at the old Big Lots on Madison and Epler as well.
DeleteThey give food to those in need (w/sign up). But they always have tons of bread to give to all folks, and they sell a lot of chips, crackers, nuts and goodies super cheap. The funds raised from all sales goes to help feed the homeless.
I got brand new queen sheets there a few weeks back for $5 - it was a daily special.
It is crowded, but they have lots of things. I can't wait to find the new one open when I go by. I have heard it is really nice.
Have fun!
Have a super week.
Thanks for the info. Am familiar with the Madison but not the others. If you ever get to 71st and Binford, there is an Entenmanns outlet with $1 bread, English muffins and bagels. It's my go to place when on the north side.
DeleteThanks for that info. There used to be a thrift store on Madison down by Greenwood, but it has closed and now it is at Epler. The Troy St. is closest to me.
DeleteExcellent devotional! If a person boasts about tomorrow, what she may or may not do, I think that is dismissing trust in the Father's will. Your prayer is especially meaningful!
ReplyDeleteSo glad your sister is improving. It is my understanding that a UTI can cause all sorts of serious problems. Will continue to pray for her recovery.
Love the comment about trimming your "wings". When my sides grow out, they resemble a cocker spaniel's ears. ha!
Isn't it nice to be able to let some fresh air in the house? Today is not a day to do that, but hopefully later in the week.
The Farmer and I will have our 35th wedding anniversary tomorrow. The time has absolutely flown by.
Thanks, I believe we just have to have faith and trust.
DeleteThank you - yes, UTI's can be devastating.
It is funny what we think about the hair sides! I can see doggy ears as well!
Love fresh air - can't wait.
Happy anniversary to you and many, many more.
Have a wonderful week.
Praying for your sister. Have a great week. (Little Penpen)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Penny - continued prayers for you both.
DeleteHave a blessed week.
It's been warmer here this week, which I like as we can keep the heat off of the most part of the day. I'll be praying for your sister and I'm happy to hear you were able to visit with her this week. I think picking up sticks in the yard is never done. They must wait for us to go in and then drop more immediately. LOL Good deal on the free bread and buns, I love that the thrift stores do that.
ReplyDeleteThose warmer days sure do make a week nicer. I believe you are right, pick them all up and again they fall. At my house it is the squirrels - I think they watch, as they try using them in a nest - and then they drop them. Little rascals.
DeleteThank you so much.
Have a lovely week.
I continue to pray for your sister, I remember all too well what a UTI could do to my mom while I was caring for her.
ReplyDeleteMost snow here is gone, still hills of snow where I had to clean the parking area but it's fine.
I burned off the brush pile last evening in anticipation of rain overnight but we didn't get any. I needed it gone because I need to pick up fallen limbs and I don't like the firepit to be piled too high for burning. Looks good now, but the fallen limbs are still frozen to the ground.....picking them up will happen eventually. Everything is brown and so many leaves..... there was no time to deal with them last fall. The weather was against us so they remained on the ground. It might be a case of mowing/mulching them and it is what it is LOL. I live in a woods and honestly a golf course style yard is not my wish or thing.
My hens have slowly started laying and I still have frozen eggs to use so it's all good.
This week the temps could get up to the point that I can give the house a good airing....I love fresh air.
I am dreaming and planning my flower planting and veg gardening. Had some of my bread and butter pickles and they are wonderful. Summers bounty on a winter day makes me happy.
JC
Thank you so much.
DeleteI think I would mulch it up if I was you. It will be good for the earth and insects.
I did notice northern part of state got no rain, didn't see how far south got it.
I have seen several people burning.
I noticed my neighbor has let his chickens out again - so hopefully laying takes place for them as well.
Dreaming of the summer days and crops is such fun. The bounty sure helps make winters feel better.
Have a super week.
Sorry, I have to chuckle a little at your description of the snow lasting 3 weeks. Back at home, we usually have snow from November through to early April and sometimes even later.
ReplyDeleteSending my best wishes to your sister as she recovers.
Oh I get it, we aren't used to that - thank goodness. I am so over it.
DeleteThank you, much appreciated.
Have a great week.
I hope that your sister does well in rehab and can become strong enough that she won’t fall. Hopefully she will soon return home.
ReplyDeleteWe are having beautiful weather. I put away my winter clothes. A few days ago I raked five bags of leaves from the tropical plants in my back and side yards. It is unusual for them to lose so many leaves but they’ll survive, I believe, and I watered them well.
Yesterday I vacuumed my car carpets and seats front and back, cleaned out my glove compartment and went through the emergency bag in the car trunk just to remind myself what is in there.
Mid-week I lunched with two friends. This morning I went to the annual Depression Glass show in my area. I have collected Luray Pastels china from the 1940s-50s for years and a few dealers at this show usually have a few pieces but I only went there to look. Also I do think about selling it all at some point. It’s not valuable but I’d like someone to have it who loves it like I’ve loved it.
Have a great week! Barbara M.
Thank you Barbara - I hope she gains strength as well. That is so what she needs.
DeleteI imagine the cold snap you had did a number on the plants - I sure hope they all survive.
Lucky you and the beautiful weather. I am happy for you. I am anxious to get the Blazer all cleaned up and out.
Your lunches sound fun and oh how neat on the glass show. I love a lot of the old depression ware glass - I have a piece or two that was mom's and couple from grandma.
Enjoy them as long as you want to - they aren't costing you a thing to sit there.
Have a beautiful week.
Depression Glass! OMGoodness, I've not thought about that in ages. I had a friend whose granny had Florentine in Crystal - don't recall is it was Florentine 1 or Florentine 2. I was able to find some pieces for my friend to fill in so she could use it at table. :) Pretty stuff.
DeleteI only have one piece, a bread&butter plate, Bubble, in crystal. :) That must have been fun, to go to a Show.
MaryB
It is definitely warming up a little here too. Sending prayers for your sister for a good recovery. XXXXX
ReplyDeleteGlad you are warming up there. It sure is nice, isn't it?
DeleteThank you very much for the prayers
Have a super week.
That was me above, don't know why it went to annonymous!
ReplyDeleteComputers - go figure!
DeleteSo glad to hear your sister is on the improve, I hope it continues. She has been in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteMy brilliant idea that I left you with on Thursday involving using old feed bags has come to fruition. And it has been a success in terms of sewing and construction, but they have yet to be used " on the job", so judgement on that front will have to wait until next week when we begin to clean out our new "project" house.
We also had a burn off fire yesterday, a tree that been on the corner of our street forever lost two big limbs in a storm at the end of summer, they have sat on the sidewalk for ages and during the week I dragged them down into our yard. I am sure it provided a good laugh for the rest of the street. Civic pride people !!!!!!
Take care, Louise.
Thank you - I sure hope she gets her leg strength back.
DeleteYAY - I knew it would work. Hope they are helpful to you. Love using things instead of buying new.
It is amazing how people will let things just sit and look ugly and do nothing. "Not my job". Uh, yes, it is if you live in the neighborhood - help keep it nice. I have done things like that - and I am forever picking up other people trash!
You go gal!
Have a wonderful week.
Wonderful to hear that your sister has improved enough to go to rehab. I hope the progress continues and I will continue my prayers for her.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you - I hope so as well. She needs more strength - so hoping that improves.
DeleteHave a lovely week.
Good to hear about your sister. :) Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteThank you - hoping she continues to improve.
Deletehave a blessed week.
Continued prayers for your sister. You sound like you had a busy week. I was exhausted from work. I ate mustard green soup and kept adding stuff to it as the week progressed like field peas, tomato soup, leftover beans and carrots, leftover chicken. I basically ate that soup most of the week. I went to see my oldest son in north Alabama and have communicated with all four of my kids. This week I will eat tomato soup, had chicken and mashed potatoes this weekend, boiled shrimp and a lettuce salad with homemade blue cheese dressing, maybe I will cook dried small green lima beans with carrots, make coleslaw and something with my potatoes.I managed to walk every day despite the difficult work week. Sometimes it was climbing the work stairs for ten minutes at a time! Have a great week! Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteSorry you had a rough week. I remember working, and some weeks were just lousy! I love how you can change up your soup so much just by adding things. That is so thrifty.
DeleteI have been thinking about baby lima beans lately. I love them.
Smart to get your walking in - even on the steps. that is good cardio.
Have a super week. Thank you!!
Cheryl, you have some good meals listed there. My DIL does her shopping at Kroger on Fridays so she can get extra fuel points. I need to remember to do that. Last month I got a dollar off each gallon when I filled up! Have a wonderful week. My blog is down for now and I'm not sure I will bring it back. But I'm still visiting my favorites :)
ReplyDeleteIf you have to shop - doing it on Friday at Kroger is smart. That is a lot of extra points and it sure can save money on gas. Getting a $1 off per gallon is fantastic. I always read
DeleteI hate to hear your blog is down - I hope you come back. I always read and it is nice to just keep up with others' lives.
Stay well and stick around.
Have a wonderful week.
Once it warms up, it seems to take so long for the snow to completely melt. I walked the park several times this week and it was so nice to have the warmer weather. I'll continue to pray for your sister that she gains strength in rehab.
ReplyDeleteIt does seem to take a while for those big piles to go away. It is just nice to see the ground! Glad you got to get out and walk.
DeleteThank you - much appreciated.
Have a great week.
Continued prayers for your sister. I am glad she has improved enough to go to rehab. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Seems every inch is a mile!
DeleteHave a great week.
