Hello all. Hope you are all well and good.
It is a lovely start to the day here in my area. It is currently 59* according to my thermometer. Much better than freezing temps! May get close to 80* today. Good day to work outside for sure.
Everything is getting so pretty outside. Green is now the color of the week! Flowers are all popped up (perennials). The Vinca vine out front is flowering now - little blue/violet flowers. Lots of dandelions and violets everywhere. Weeds are thriving as usual!! Seems nothing keeps them down.
I was watching the crazy squirrels yesterday in the tree. I mentioned that they love the little pods/twirlers from the maple tree. They are so funny. They go to furthest out fringes of the branches to get them.
See that goofball hanging on the fragile little branches hanging down. (mid picture). Now mind you the pods are laying all over the yard - but noooooo - got to make it exciting!!! LOLLicorice has never come back home. He was last seen on 2/28. I sure do miss that boy. There are lots of cats being seen that I have never seen before. Not babies, but adult cats. I mean I find odd that all of a sudden there are so many different ones just roaming around. They all look healthy - so getting fed somewhere.
I still have Momma, Persi (came back and decided it likes to live here (all healed)), and Pip and Squeak (the young-ins) outside. Those 4 are getting better, as they come to greet me each morning and don't hide anymore. I still can't pet them, but it is getting better - they know I bring FOOD, so they get closer and closer!!!! A couple others come by for a bite now and then - but they are regulars in the neighborhood. Yep, seems I am the cat lady! LOL
Of course there is Bitsy inside! My buddy.
Now that the major threat of freeze is over here, I think I will be hanging the hummingbird feeders today. I have heard rumors that a few have been sighted as far north as our city. I want to be ready when they show. There isn't a lot to feed on naturally yet, so they need the nectar.
I keep noticing more and more blogs I read are talking about using up the oldest items they have in the freezers and pantries - I just love it. I am trying to get the older items out of the freezer as well - now I do buy new when I find a deal - but rotation is so important. Sure don't want to trash good food - that is like throwing away $$.
Guess I best get busy. I hope you have a lovely day.
Look for all the good things and be happy.
Stay joyful and smile.
I'm sorry you still haven't seen Licorice, that is the hard part of taking care of outside cats. Heartbreaking when they disappear. We don't have many stray cats around our house, but our yard is fenced in so maybe I just don't see them. Have a great weekend!!
ReplyDeleteIt is the hard part. You get so used to them being around and then poof they are gone. It would just be nice to really know. I still think good thoughts for him.
DeleteHave a good one.
I've not seen Tommy Cat for many months now, but I still look for him. Haven't seen any other stray cats lately, but... the coyotes are probably hungry and that's what happens here. Sorry about Licorice. I lost my Blackie that way and I still mourn for him, he was one special cat. Still have Ally indoors which is a comfort.
ReplyDeleteLove the celery rooting. Saved your pic and your explanation. I'll share with my son for his boys. :) I remember my dad doing the same with Carrot tops.
No hummers here yet, and the azaleas are in full bloom. I'll get out the feeders this weekend just in case.
Be well!

I still look for Licorice as well, so I understand. Oh how terrible to think about coyotes. Nothing like that here, but there are other critters around. Ally is lucky to have you too. They sure are a comfort.
DeleteIt would be a fun 'science' kind of project for kiddos. I still remember the thing we did with flowers and leaves in a vase of food colored water. Watching things change color.
I haven't seen a hummer either, but have heard they are returning now.
Well, I hope Licorice found a new and cozy home. Sounds like your other outdoor family is doing very well. Brenda Pruitt at Cozy Little House1 lives in a neighborhood in Tulsa that the residents actively help the homeless cats. Is there anyone else in your neighborhood who feeds and maybe adopts the kitties? For some reason we don't seem to have stray cats. Crazy squirrel, hanging off the tree branch! He was determined to get the treat off the maple tree.
ReplyDeleteThe day looks to be nice and sunny. It would be a good day to put out the hummingbird feeders. The gardening seat I have had for years finally began to fall apart. Suncast still carries the same one so I ordered it and will take it for a spin today. Speaking of outdoor stuff, my umbrella clothesline fell over as the metal post had rusted and broken off. The Farmer found a piece of metal pipe that the original pole will fit into and he will cut it so I can reach the lines. Saved major $$$.
Enjoy your weekend! It is so good to turn off the furnace and open up the house.
I hope so too. He loved my 'cooking', but maybe got tired of all the other cats showing up. There is a lady down the alley a ways that gives shelter and food - sort of a colony house. I have wondered down that way to look, but haven't seen him.
DeleteEnjoy the new garden seat. How great your husband figured out a fix of the line for you. I wondered about a fix like that, when you first mentioned it broke. Smart feller!
It is wonderful to not have to pay for heat!!! Love my fresh air.
Like Cali, the calico that wanders by sisters, she was missing for weeks so I was happy to see her Easter Sunday when I picked up sister for dinner. My sister leaves a cannister out and fills bowls daily, my job when I take care of her cats. Food is just too expensive to waste. I love getting new ideas.
ReplyDeleteThat gives me a little hope - if Cali was gone for weeks. I always have food out for the babies.
DeleteI love sharing ideas - I am always happy to hear people get some new ideas.
Yes, the weeds are growing here too. I bought some new stringer cord for the weed eater when I was in Home Depot last week that I need to put on and use soon. Growing your own celery like that is so neat! I was hoping Licorice would be back home by now. It is fun to have neighborhood kitties that you feed.
ReplyDeleteThey are growing like 'weeds'! LOL!! I whacked away today - all over the place.
DeleteIt is kind of fun too - to see if it grows. I hope once it roots - to place in dirt in a pot close by the house.
I so enjoy the outdoor kitties. The 'teens' are a hoot. They play and play - early in the day and in the evenings. It scares me that they now wonder.
Still a bit of snow on the ground here (and supposedly a little more next week). Plants are doing well on Harvey's shelving with the grow lights. Some are finally breaking through.
ReplyDeleteI have seen a couple of bush bunnies when I am out for my walks, and over Easter I saw my first robin.
God bless.
Glad the plants are getting a good start for you. Heck a robin has to be a good sign!!!! It is always a good sign here. Bunnies are so cut.
DeleteJUst caught up on blogs as I have been gone since Easter Sunday! Score on the ground beef! I wish I would have been there! Not Bossy!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are back. Thanks - I couldn't believe the price. People were just walking by - not this girl!!!
DeleteI know you miss Licorice. I think the worst part is not knowing WHERE they are and if they are OKAY. Just sad and leaves a little hole in your heart. You are a good soul to take care of the outside kitties and make sure they are fed. I just reorganized my freezer and have been using up the 'old stuff'. As of this week I have moved into the 'new stuff'. Feels good!!! Happy weekend- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteYou hit the nail on the head - just not knowing. It really breaks my heart, and I still say a prayer for him every day.
DeleteThey are all God's creatures, and I think that is what we are supposed to do.
Good for you - I have a ways to go before the 'old' stuff is gone, but it refreshing to be using up all that, and not wasting it.
I'm so sorry to hear the news about Licorice, life expectancy for outside cats tends to be shorter. The others are fortunate to have found you.
ReplyDeleteSend some of that lovely weather this way. We are supposed to get above freezing here today but there is still lots of snow yet to melt.
Thanks - I just get real attached, and I know I probably shouldn't - they are outdoor and feral - but they still deserve love.
DeleteI wish I could send a lot of lovely air that way!!!!! I just couldn't deal with snow and yuck that long.
The squirrels at our house are so crazy! They've bitten the top off one of our bird feeders and they climb inside, twirl it around, then back out. We've had so many squirrels lately and don't mind feeding them, until they start destroying things. We've had a possum roaming around the front porch at night. The camera caught him. Every night the camera catches a black cat and a yellow cat. It's like a zoo around here! :)
ReplyDeleteNature is so amazing. Yes, squirrels can be destructive - but I keep plenty out there for them - so they stay fed. Water too - so they stay away from the garden in summer.
DeleteI have a couple possums roaming around at night, and there is a racoon once in a while. Lots of stray cats - oh my!
Yep. it can get like a zoo. Fun to watch though.
I find that I actually neglect getting the older stuff out of the freezer in the house. So I'm working on it or was till the floor was being fixed. I'll get back at it.
ReplyDeleteWe have 3 cats that visit regularly and I notice they go to all the houses and get a little something. I hope your licorice comes back soon...
Get back at it asap so you don't waste your money. I just hate throwing things out - might as well throw out a wad of cash.
DeleteThanks - I keep hope that he may return.
