Weekend Plans - Fun or Work?

Hello to all.  Glad to be here this morning, and hope you are well.
It is a cool and cloudy morning here.  This may be our only day with no rain for the next many.  Goodness, we have had our fair share of rain around here.  At my house, it was non-stop all day yesterday until in the evening hours.  It was just a soft and gentle rain - but rain none the less.

Yesterday also had this annoying noise going on.  It was a beeping noise, that persisted all day long.  You know the sound a truck makes when backing up?  It was that kind of beep - ALL DAY LONG!  I even took a walk in the rain to try and figure out where it was coming from - no luck - just somewhere down the alley.  I guess the homeowner must have been at work or something, because it finally stopped around 6PM.  It was just a noise that got under the skin!  LOL
Yesterday was also chilly.  I had on socks and a cardigan all day.

YEP!  This is kind of my life now.  Slow and steady and easy.  Much to be said about retirement.  Much to be said about not giving a rats patoot about impressing others.

What kind of plans do you have for the weekend?  As I said yesterday, it is Memorial Day weekend here in the U.S.  It is also the 500-mile race on Sunday.  It is generally a big weekend.
There are graduations and grad parties happening all around.  Pools generally open, but I would think around here, it would be rather cool for that - but the braves ones won't care!
There are cookouts and family parties that happen all around.
If you live somewhere else - do you have any big plans for the upcoming weekend?

I have no plans at all.  Just hanging out here with the kitties!  Not sure what will be on the menu - it really is just another day for me.  I DO want a watermelon.  I am very much in the mood for munching on watermelon.  I may make a trip to the store for that.  I probably need to go and get gas while out as well.  I know I have a week to use my discount points, but I will probably stop while out.  I have no big plans for next week.
I plan to work in the basement some, I may go out today and paint a couple items in the yard decor.  I can't mow out back, as it is still way to wet!  Front has already been done.
I think maybe I will porch sit when I can and just watch all the goings on in the neighborhood!
Whatever I want to do.

Maybe even this!  Naps.  I love how laid back and calm Bitsy is most of the time.  He finds a spot and just sleeps and sleeps.  Lazy bug.  My kind of cat!!!!!
He loves cuddles with mom as well.  Sometimes he comes and sits on the footstool and yells at me to sit on the couch.  As I sit, he figures how to be as close as possible up against my leg.  I pet and look at computer and he loves it.

So give us a shout out on your weekend plans.  Cookouts?  Grad parties?  Pool parties?  Race parties? Garden planting?   Harvesting?  Look forward to how you plan to spend your days.
Whatever you do and wherever you are - make it a nice one.

Have a super weekend and love each moment and day that you are given!

  1. This weekend I hope to have a quiet weekend and spend more time filtering through my things and getting more things ready to donate. I also need to dedicate some time to paperwork and materials I need to read through. The watermelon sounds delicious. Sunday, I would like to have the energy to attend all services. We had a low of 29F overnight, so turning the heater off for the season would be nice too. Julie V

    1. I hope you find quiet and a peaceful weekend. Filtering through things here as well, I know they will bless others.
29F is way too cold for this time of the year. Dang. I am glad we are past that point (I hope). I hope you get to settle in and turn off heat and accomplish all you want.

  2. Nothing special here this weekend, just ordinary plans. It’s supposed to rain and since many yard sales are a bust on a holiday weekend, we’ll probably stay home. I like retirement life too, sleeping until I wake up and taking a nap if I feel the need are all wonderful. lol

    1. Rain seems to put the kibosh on a lot of things. I guess holidays and sales really don't go together - seems they never really did much. People rather be partying!!!
Yep - just living the way you want and doing what you want - nothing wrong with that at all. Rest up!

  3. Nothing special. There is a parade on Saturday we may go to. Mostly I'll be getting ready to go to my brothers for a few days next week. I want to have a clean house when I come home.

    1. A parade sounds fun. I don't think we have one around here. I guess all the other activities take its place.
Funny, we all want to come home to a nice and neat home when going away. Just to walk in and say aaahhhh home!
Don't wear yourself out cleaning - you want to be in good form for visiting!! Enjoy the parade and festivities.

  4. Another nothing special. Maybe I can do some clutter weeding as it's supposed to rain. A load of laundry would be good - there's a blanket needs washing before summer storage. That would mean a trip out, because blanket is too much for home washer. Just a looong quiet weekend at home - I hope!

    1. I hope you get that long weekend at home. Seems many might weed out the clutter.
Sorry you can't do the blanket at home.
Just enjoy whatever you do - enjoy the LONG weekend.

  5. I have no real plans, just a relaxing weekend. Mostly I’ll work in the yard doing more trimming and cutting. I love it! I “may” go to Home Depot and look at their plants. It is hot so I’ll pace myself and not go out in the middle of the day.

Now that the mailbox is “fixed” I want to paint the header on top and the flag (repainted by me a few months ago but too bright). I’m not sure how my parents got this, but there is a metal attachment on top of the box with the house number and also my dad’s name in metalwork. I like it. It is maroon and I have the paint to repaint it.

I thought about what you said about refurbishing the old metal tools. I’m not going to be as quick to give some of them to the metal recycling place.

Today I’m having lunch with friends. That’s my only social outing of the weekend. I’ll do a few errands, Aldi and CVS (40% coupons), today after lunch. Barbara M.

    1. Don't get yourself overheated. Be careful out there.
That sounds neat on the mailbox. Never seen one like that.
Good, because tools (especially hand tools) usually just need a good cleaning and oiling and they last forever. I still have a couple of dads. Even mechanical equipment can be refurbished. Maybe they will help someone who can't afford or just likes old tools.
      ENJOY your lunch out.

  6. We were originally planning to go to a national park with DS19 & his friends, but they opted for Lake Tahoe on the 4th of July weekend instead. DH & I will then hit those national parks on a non holiday weekend, which I'm sure will be more pleasant. I plan to workout, clean the house, maybe catch up with friends, and also work on some homework for a class I'm taking. - Hawaii Planner

    1. Sorry your original plans got cancelled - but I bet it would have been hugely crowded. I think non-holidays would be calmer too.
Sounds like a nice weekend planned for you. All relaxing and calming things (except maybe housework). Enjoy!

  7. The Farmer and I cannot figure out why people are upset when they retire. There are tons of things to do and also to catch up on from the years occupied with a paying job. We are like you, homebodies.

The rain may (likely will) interfere with most activities this weekend. We learned long ago not to go out on any of the race days, or go after the event has started and before it ends. Too much traffic.

Bits is too cute for words! He has the right idea.

We are going to Costco to pick up Jacob's medicine and tell them to delete Riley's account.

Watermelon sounds good! We may have to check when we go to Costco or Meijer.

Enjoy your weekend! See you on Sunday!

    1. I can't figure it out either. There is a lot to keep us active. Maybe some people just need that 9 to 5 schedule. Not me!
Yes, sounds like a lot of rain coming forth. UGH
I wouldn't either where you are - you are way too close to the track. The traffic would be crazy.
He is laying right up against me as I type this. He sure can be a snuggler (when he is in the mood). He is cute!
It is watermelon time - just talking about holidays gets me in the mood!!
Later - stay in and stay safe.

  8. Some Catholic churches here have a memorial Mass at cemeteries for deceased veterans. Our local government has a memorial event at a park with a band and speakers. In years past I occasionally did those with the kids but mostly Memorial day was a day off from kid's activities, stay home and catch up on chores.

This year my daughter is off so I won't have the kids AND my husband does work. So a rare day to myself! I'm making a list of stuff I want to do and it's going to be all fun things and I might even buy my lunch out!

    1. I didn't think about the cemeteries. I have gone to many a service at those honoring the deceased veterans. They always play Taps and it just gets me so tearful every time I hear it. Even on TV.
Good for you gal. Make it a fun day. I vote YES for lunch out. Enjoy the day and catch up on whatever you want or just play!!!

    1. Glad they have someone to take care of the babies. Tis the weekend to begin all the summer activities. I remember it used to be our first BIG camping weekend - with everyone going. Such fun.
Enjoy piddling and reading and cuddles!

  10. We are due to have a hot weekend, weather-wise and it is a bank holiday on Monday, so there is a long weekend in store for those who work. That makes no difference to us. My husband is planning on doing a local car-boot sale on either Sunday or Monday and that means that I will be helping him to fill up and empty the car. Other than that it will be the usual routine - some gardening, some cooking, some reading and just being.

    1. Those long holiday weekends don't matter to me either. Every weekend is a long one!!!
That sounds fun - good luck with it.
      Your usual routine sounds lovely.

  11. Now that I am retired I lose track of days, and the weekends are just another day to me. I have no particular plans, might go (window) shopping or a friend said she might drive out to see me. I sometimes feel guilty that I should be doing something more productive than just enjoying life now.

  12. This weekend I am on paint duty, I have three small bedrooms to paint. Sounds like work, but I really enjoy the time to myself and painting is always a satisfying job because you can see the change. My, hasn't paint got expensive of late?!
We have friends visiting after church on Sunday to look at our latest house with the prospect of buying it for their grandson. He lost both his legs as a child in a car accident that killed his parents and they are looking to set him up as independently as they can. This house ticks all their boxes but, is at the moment only a quarter finished. Let's hope they bring their imaginations.
Have a great weekend Cheryl, take care, Louise.

  13. Love Bitsy🖤🤍🖤
Do people have septic systems in your neighborhood? I was wondering if that was the sound you heard? They alarm when they need emptying.
Since it’s Memorial Day weekend, we plan to grill some burgers and hotdogs and make some macaroni salad. Just us, at home☺️
Saturday nite we plan to attend a high school graduation party of a young man we’ve never met. But, we knew his folks in California when they were younger than he is. They’ve moved to our neck of the woods now.
His grandma (also a dear friend)is flying back for it. So, it should be a fun reunion.
Did you get yourself a good watermelon?
We drove an hour north yesterday to lay flowers on my mother’s grave and the rest of her family buried there. Stopped at an antique mall and saw lots of goodies we didn’t need😆
Today was wonderful rain and thunderstorms. So, I’ve been enjoyIng the sounds⚡️🌨️🌩️🌧️⛈️ while reading a Rhys Bowen book. Btw, I highly recommend her book, “Mrs. Endicott’s Splendid Adventure” if you haven’t already read it. It is splendid.
Enjoy whatever you do (or don’t do).
