Hello to all. Hope this finds you all well. Goodness golly, here we are midweek and mid-month again! It is a lovely morning here. It is now the season where, I must walk about with a big stick, when going down walkways or between things! Spider webs are everywhere, and I do not cherish waling into their lairs!
It sure does for me. I like things simple and basic. It is the 'small' stuff that gives me joy.Yesterday while I was out walking, I had a moment! I was looking around as I walked, then I just stopped and looked at everything surrounding me, and I felt soooooo small. For a moment I felt like a miniature standing in the land of giants. Everything looked so grand and pretty - even the little things. It was almost like an out of body experience.
My neighbor must have noticed me stopping, and when I finally came back up by her house, she asked me what I was looking at. "My smallness" was my answer - she just smiled. She got it.
We are indeed small in this world. One of billions, like a grain of sand. We are important to those close to us, but as the world turns, we are hardly noticed.
Yet here we are - part of God's plan and creation.
Somedays it pays to notice the simple things. I live a very simple and basic life. You will not see anything grand here. I live in a basic home - nothing grand, but it is mine. I drive a basic vehicle. Old, but still goes. I wear simple clothes - some many years old. If I have a 'name' brand it is only because I got it at a yard sale and liked it - nothing to do with the label. I have a small garden, but it gives me and others fresh produce.
I have basic and simple decor at my home - things I love, cherish and appreciate. Nothing big and shiny and new.
A simple basket of some of my dad's old magazines from the 60's and 70's. Still worth the read and info is still valid. They were daddies and he read them and touched/held them and that gives me comfort.Simple laughter some days.
Bitsy gets so excited every morning when I get ready to open the door. He gets to see Licorice! I often wonder if he things that is Blackie or if he knows he is a different kitty. He talks and chatters and yells, until I open the door. He loves on me and hugs me - then he sees his outdoor friend. Once they see each other, and I give Licorice food, Bits hides behind the door, looking through the crack. Like to say "he'll never see me"! Every morning!!!!! What a way to start the day!Meatball stuffed corn muffins. A bit of batter in bottom, a cooked meatball, and cover with batter. Bake as normal. Like eating a little slider! Served with a fresh salad - yummy and I was full. That is what matters.
Goulash - the pizza way! Yep, simple goulash with pizza toppings added (and pizza sauce). It was simple, no baking like for pizza, and had the pizza taste. Some of my best meals are just simple and basic items. I like variety - so I experiment. It generally works out!
I am not pretentious at all - what you see is what you get. Don't like it - don't care. My job is not to impress folks; it is to help and be kind.
We all tend to make life too complicated. It sure doesn't need to be. As the old saying goes - keep it simple silly (I changed the last word)!
We are all going to leave this world someday, when God says so. We have a limited amount of days - and no idea how many. Make each one count - enjoy, laugh, celebrate, help, teach, guide, appreciate. Stop any negativity - it doesn't look pretty, nor does it help anything.
Go forward and keep the days simple and basic. They can be the most wonderful days ever.
The gift of life is a tremendous gift - make each moment the best.
That doesn't mean impressing a single person, just living a good life.
Have a wonderful and blessed day.
I'm pretty simple too, and that's how I like it. Grilled cheese sandwich is a go-to for me, with a salad and some fruit. Also came across (here?) something using chicken Ramen with a fried egg on top (only use a little of that seasoning packet, too much salt) and was surprised how good it was.
ReplyDeleteShared the meatball corn muffin and the pizza goulash ideas with my son. His kids might really like those and they could help make them as well. :)

We live what we like - or we should. I love a simple meal - sure don't need fancy ingredients.
DeleteThanks for sharing - the corn muffin thing, I saw something similar on FB, so winged it.
I think both would be a big hit with kids.
Awww...... I love the kitty-chronicles! That is sooooo adorable. Our fur children give such joy.
ReplyDeleteI sooo enjoyed your words of a simple life, it comforts me and I feel the same way. Your walk sounds so full of the Holy Spirit...Isn't it wonderful how He whispers to our hearts in the quiet and stillness.
I'm the same way with my daddy's things. I loved seeing the magazines once held by your daddy...I so understand. That is wonderful you have them and they are in such pristine condition.
Have a great day, Blessings! ~Amelia
Our babies give so much happiness and laughter.
DeleteYes, most definitely the Holy Spirit. It must have been a moment I needed to hear or feel that, as every day I walk the same route. It sure did hit me. And here we are talking about it - I guess I needed to pass along a message.
I have so many things of daddy and mom, and they are all precious. I swear when I use mom's cookbook and her utensils, she is there guiding me. It always tastes better!
Life sure gives us some turns - paying attention is so important.
Fabulous post! Yes, we are small in the big scheme of things. See how I contrasted the two...ha! The Ruach Ha Kodesh is our guide.
ReplyDeleteThe picture of Bits with Licorice is adorable. I wonder if they would hiss at each other or be friends?
Beautiful day. Making a trip to pick up the boys' meds and a trip to Goodwill to look for something. Not a lot else going on today.
Yes mam, so true.
DeleteThey visit through the door - but not sure how it would be face to face (no door).
It is so pretty out. Laundry is going right now and even that is enjoyable today!
We do tend to get caught up in our own small worlds, thinking them to be all encompassing. Stopping for a minute and realizing there is so much more is eye-opening for certain.
ReplyDeleteI agree. We become very wrapped up in ourselves so often. This world has so much to offer and there is so much we could be doing good.
DeleteI love you so much, I want you to know that. A complete strange Stranger loves you. What a great post. I am convinced you could bring world peace if everyone read you. Ever thought of entering a beauty pageant?
ReplyDeleteYou sweet, sweet lady. I love you all - you all give me so much in life.
DeleteLOL- no beauty pageants for me!!
The world just needs some calming voices - if we all did that, my goodness.
I am on the same page as you with regard to clothes. I buy things that I like and that I know will fit me, often from charity shops. I have never understood why people choose to wear designer clothes covered in logos which make them look like walking adverts for a specific company. Plus the quality of many 'high end' clothes is actually atrocious.
ReplyDeleteI never understood it. I just want comfy good caliber clothing. I make mine last for a long, long time. Sure don't need to advertise for no one.
DeleteI am pretty much the same as you now - living simply, appreciating the small things and dressing for comfort. I wish I had known this in my younger life as I remember always buying the "right" brands for work, which were expensive. I think of all the money that could have gone to better causes.
ReplyDeleteHind-sight is 20-20! When I worked, I worked in an office and had a lot of clothes - but they all came from thrift stores for pennies. Later after I quit, I donated them all to a ladies shelter.
DeleteThe little things are the best things in my opinion.
Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post. I truly did. I love simple!!! I love basic. In a world that can truly try to blind us with busy, shiny, new and etc. that noise can be loud and it can really blind us. I appreciate your outlook. I try to be this way. I was thinking today about a particular thing I am dealing with in regard to decorations for fall. I will spare you my thoughts but this post confirmed and reminded me of some things. :) Blessings.
Hi Chrissy. Glad to have you here. Boy, are you right! The shiny, busy and newest can be very NOISY!
DeleteI am just laid back and pretty old fashioned. I have no problem with that. Glad you confirmed your answer!
Please visit again.
I like this! Nothing fancy here either and like you, if it’s some fancy brand name it’s because I found it at a yard sale. 😂 I wouldn’t have it any other way. Love this post. 💕
ReplyDeleteSimple and basic is the way to be! Love that so many feel the same way.
DeleteI do not live a fancy life, our home is less than 1000 sq feet, though we are lucky to have a basement and part of that is finished into a bedroom and a place for Harvey to watch all his sports. Meals are pretty much the same all year round, and I really try to keep to making my own clothing and gifts.
ReplyDeleteI actually told Harvey that this vehicle better last us a very long time. We don't use it to travel more than once every second year, though I am thinking a few weekend trips might be lovely around the province.
God bless.
Your home sounds much like mine. I have about 900 sq/ ft. and a basement. Half of it is finished (craft room now). How much room do we need?
DeleteThat would be lovely for you to have some extra short trips!
AMEN sister! A few years ago, a sweet friend said to me "now that I can afford Broccoli, I'd rather grow it". Ain't it the truth?!!! It is funny that once we arrived at "means" with no debt, most of the stuff/home/vehicles we used to want was not at all important. I suppose maturity has a lot to do with that-we were under 50. We're all about experiences. Instead, I retired early and hubster will retire in January :-)
ReplyDeleteCheers to simple living and simple joys :-)
You nailed it! I truly think there is so much to what you said. I can buy most anything I want - I just don't want!
DeleteLife sure is a learning and adjusting curve. I like it now.
Yay, for your hubby!
Things on the job can be very complicated and complex, but in my
ReplyDeletepersonal life I am very simple. Small house, small car, use fan as much as possible but live in Deep South so limited. Raise windows (screened) and occasionally wrangle a rat snake out of my house who comes through one of the many openings in the old house … lol. I generally buy the same things as the grocery store and have a standard list and just buy when low. Carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, spinach, cabbage, maybe a squash, are the fresh vegetables. Watermelon and berries in the summer for fruit. Sandwich meat such as bologna or turkey, cheese, sandwich bread, mayo, mustard, Eggs when running low and same as peanut butter. I am well stocked up canned goods for three or four months such as tuna, green beans, green peas, corn, carrots. A few cans of sweet potatoes. I have some oats, flour, cornbread, sugar, salt, hot sauce, garlic powder, creole seasonings, etc. condiments like soy sauce, ketchup, mayo, mustard. I am pretty basic and seldom eat out. I occasionally buy chicken, or shrimp,
or locally grown catfish. I have trouble staying stocked with water. I need to do better there but go through it fast. I do not drink much milk so have canned for cooking. I have two black skirts and like ten black tops that I throw a gray jacket over and that is my work uniform. Blue jeans on weekends. I have a few dresses for church. I used to only have one but now I have five. I cut my hair. I wear reading glasses and I usually buy from Dollar Tree. Walk in neighborhood. Have bad feet so do spend on Dansko clogs ( about $128) and decent tennis shoes ($79) Cindy in the South
Forgot to say I have years supply of dried beans. Cindy in the South
DeleteSounds like you live a very basic life. Nothing wrong with buying the same things most of the time. I guess we probably all have a basics list - never really thought about that. Great on the beans - protein - and they sure would keep you full.
DeleteHave a simple wardrobe keeps us from having to make a lot of decisions.
Your life sounds great to me.
Amen Cheryl. A simple life is the best life.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100%. Life is good.
DeleteNot Bossy here...beautiful post!
ReplyDeleteThank you mam! Have a great one.
