Weekly Wrap Up 10/25

Hello to all and welcome, on this last Sunday of October!  Hoping you are all well and safe.  Next Sunday will be November.  Goodness sakes this year has flown by.
It is 47*F this morning and it looks like another week on repeat.  All week is predicted to be in the mid 70's here, with lows around 50*.  Incredible!
The sunrises and sunsets have sure been pretty.  Last evening it was stripes of pink, purple, orange and blue - it reminded me of the taffy strips we got as a child!
We are a week out to Halloween, and I am already seeing Christmas commercials on TV!  I would love it if we could have one holiday at a time.  I guess I am guilty too though, as I have posted ideas for gifts already.
My frugal week:
  • The week started with a neighbor bringing me a bag of homemade Chex Mix.  It sure was tasty
  • I went to lunch with grade school friends.  I had a cousin I haven't seen in years show up as well - such a nice visit and mini reunion.
  • After the lunch - went next door to the CCB (closeout store).  I got a big head of cauliflower for 1.50, and I bought myself a black sweater, for times I need something nice and in a dark color.  It was $5!  Teardrop opening in front with a little gold chain closure
  • Cleaned the ceiling fans
  • Had an old friend from school call to check on me and see if I needed help with anything.  He calls every so often
  • I have been going through the last of home canned items in basement (used to keep it all there).  Sorting and bringing the balance up and putting older in front - need to use it
  • I did a cat food run, found a gallon of milk for 1.18 (dated 11/2), 6 large baking potatoes - 1.50 (that's .25/meal), and 2 packs of 4 ea. yogurt for 1.75 ea.
  • Made a big pot of chili and froze some for future meals
  • Using what I have
  • Laundry in cold and hung to dry
  • Phoned in a couple bills instead of mailing
  • Got to air house some.  Still no AC or furnace - just little heater when needed
  • Trimmed the grape arbor
  • Scoured all the watering holes for animals
  • Been raking, cutting and doing general fall yard work
  • Picked 6 more green tomatoes that I had missed
  • Working more in the basement
Budget friendly meals this past week:
Cheese dip and crackers and fresh veggies (was plenty & filling)
Out with friends
Chili and crackers
Chili w/cheese and sour cream
Cheesy tuna mac and salad
Loaded baked potato and salad
BBQ shredded pork(freezer)/cheese open face sandwich, steamed cauliflower w/Yum-Yum sauce, sliced tomatoes

Just enjoying the lovely weather around here and trying to take advantage.  I hope you are getting decent weather as well.
How was your week?  Any deals or bargains?  Anything exciting around your area?
I look forward to hearing from you all.
Wishing you all a super lovely week ahead and hoping you all stay safe and healthy.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

  1. Good morning, Cheryl! It's a little warmer here this morning at 50 degrees and is supposed to get up to 74. It's been a very good Fall so far. How thoughtful that your friend checked in with you to see how you are doing. We are waiting each day for news of our new granddaughter who is due in the next couple of weeks or so. This week our two teenage granddaughters came over and did the mowing, weed eating, and pulled up the tomato plants and general garden clean up. Yesterday we power-washed the house and shed and cleaned windows. Stopped at the library to pick up some books and found out they are having a food drive, so I am going through the pantry and putting together some food to take over. I also stopped at Good Will and found puzzles for $1.99 each. I bought three of them. Have a great week!! Darcy

    1. What a great week! Hoping all is well and healthy with the upcoming birth! How exciting.
Your sweet grands for helping you guys out - that is special. I really need to power wash this week as well. The house could use it.
Nice of you to help out the food drive. So many people can use the goodies and will be much appreciative.
      Have a lovely week.

  2. Winter is reintroducing itself to NE Alberta. Temps hover ~0C. 4 cords of wood were delivered on Wed so I've been stacking wood a few hours a day since. Even got an hour in before the snow/rain mix arrived on Fri. Most of that snow has melted. I took flowers & lasagna to my recently widowed neighbor. Life has changed once again for her. We joke about getting a "baba license" (in reference to European elder woman or grandma) when we garden or make certain foods. Well, this week I worked on my baba license when I helped make cabbage rolls (holopchi) for the assisted living fund raiser. Many hands make light work. There was some haus frau-ing between wood stacking. In the kitchen: bbq ribs; sourdough noodles; cauliflower soup; fried cabbage & potatoes.

    1. Sorry about the winter! It looks like we postpone for a while.
That wood will sure come in handy. I so do NOT look forward to snow.
How sweet to take things to the neighbor. Life sure changes a lot. Good going with helping for the assisted living home.
All your foods sound good and you are sure doing your part with the "baba license"!
      Have a special week,

      I thought it was pretty.

  4. Excellent devotional! Yes, we need to praise Him for all the many blessings He gives us. Even when something goes wrong, not the way we wished for, He is faithful to love us and help us.

Sounds like you had a big time visiting with classmates and even a cousin. Cute sweater you bought, and a good price on the cauliflower. In the same shopping vein, did you know that Goodwill no longer puts your purchases in a plastic bag? You either bring your own, stick the stuff in your purse or pockets, or buy one of their shopping bags for $1.50. The lady in front of us had lots of little pieces she was trying to carry out without losing any of it. I didn't think quick enough or I would have bought a bag for her. I had found a nice tote so everything we bought went into it. I'm still aggravated that they stopped the senior day discount. However, it is lots cheaper than buying retail.

The weather is glorious! The sunrise would have been beautiful for sure. I sure hate to see the time change. A little annoyance of life.

Got a paper jam in my printer and have to look at the tutorial on YouTube to see how to fix it. Got a bunch of little piddly things done this morning but oh, so much more to do. The Farmer opened a four year old can of Dinty Moore chicken and dumplings and it was inedible, actually rather nasty. The dog wouldn't even touch it. Some of the cans are rusting and I vote for tossing them.

Enjoy this beautiful day! Who knows how many more we have before cold weather arrives.

    1. God is always good - even when we doubt!
I quit shopping Goodwill a long time back - they charge like things are new. The head honchos get too much money as well. I did not know that about the bags - that is crazy! No senior day? Didn't know that either.
I despise the time change!! I do love the temps, however.
Seems there is always something to do.
Oh my, a rusting can is always a no-no here. Sorry you lost it.
Some things we lose track of and they get icky.
Well, it looks like the rest of the month will be great!
      Have a great week.

  5. I need to go through my "hurricane box" and see what's getting too old. That's been on my list now for a couple of weeks, and I keep putting it off, because there are other more interesting things to do!

I love that devotional, it's just right. Thank you so much. I don't know where you find these things to share, but I'm sure glad you do!

    1. Getting to things we need to check and rotate does take time, and it usually isn't something we look forward to. I understand.
Bible verses just speak to me as I read my Bible or are favorites. The printed prayer was sure something I needed to when I saw it. Thank you.
      Have a beautiful week.

  10. We travelled to the family wedding on Friday and came back on Sunday. It was a lovely, laid-back ceremony, with just a meal afterwards rather than a noisy reception with music. It gave everyone the chance to talk and get to know people they hadn't met before. We had two big storms sweep across the UK this weekend but our journeys both ways were remarkably uneventful. I was very relieved when we got home though!
Happy Birthday, Cheryl! I hope you have a lovely week.

  12. Happy upcoming birthday! I find I have lots of friends in their 80’s now, so you at 72 are a spring chicken ;). I am 70 so of course we are spring chickens! Your week sounds so much like Autumn, and getting ready for colder weather. And your closing quotes are fantastic. All good here in phoenix, aches and pains and the usual stuff, but nothing scary. Doing my 2027 budget. Woohoo. Take care, hilogene in Az.

    1. Thanks Hilogene. I am not sure I think 72 is a spring chicken - but compared to a lot I guess it is! Hey, I am still kicking and going strong - so doing good.
Yes, there are always lots of things to ready before winter. I really dislike winter! Have I ever mentioned that before? LOL
Good for you on doing the budget.
      Have a fantastic week!

  13. Hi Cheryl :) I made a pot of chili this week too. It just sounded good and it was. Where I grew up, chili was eaten with crushed up saltines in your bowl or throw in some fritos. When I got married and moved to a different region, they couldn't make a pot of chili without a giant pot of rice to go with it. The rice goes in your bowl and then you pile the chili on top. I'm always fascinated by differences like that. I also only eat chili with beans. Otherwise it's just beef with sauce. :) And yes, October has sped by! I can't believe it's about to be November!

    1. I love chili. I have always fixed with beans. I have had it over rice before. It is very good. Normally growing up, we had crackers with butter with our chili. It is still a favorite taste sensation. Sometimes I put macaroni in my chili too - sometimes, it is just cooked up and put in the bowl first. Kind of like chili mac. There are so many ways to have it - and none are bad!
The year will soon be over. Goodness.
Have a special kind of week.
