Years ago I did - when I had the same mailman for years.
Not now - dropping inside is the best way.
My bank sees my regular record and if someone presents something TOO big they actually call. Last January (Martin Luther King weekend), I put 4 bill payments in the blue drop box outside of our post office -- none made it to their destination. I learned (about 6 weeks later) that the box had been "compromised" (their wording for some unauthorized person opened the box with a key and removed all contents). Over the summer, someone presented a check at a different bank branch from what I use, with a drivers license with my name on it (their picture), and tried to cash a check for a "significant amount", more than I had in my account, and requested that the amount be transferred from my savings to checking to cover the draft. Luckily, I'd placed a flag on my accounts, and the bank asked for a second form of ID. I now only deposit my mail in the inside drop boxes. Better safe than sorry! Have a great day!Lori Khttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08649542104284197181noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7341912661779864632.post-84293893729721160372020-11-02T10:42:33.644-05:002020-11-02T10:42:33.644-05:00Thank you!!

The time does seem to fly. Think of all the things we have learned over the years. I feel like I am still learning from reading blogs like yours.

The weather is a whole lot better but we were sure happy to have the rain. Still have some garden cleanup to do. Finally got through all the canned goods and they are in their proper place, in their proper order. The only thing we are low on is canned greens. We eat the plain ones, nothing with extra seasoning. I will buy some more dog food. I had been ordering it from Amazon but Meijer is cheaper.

I did find some hand sanitizers at Walmart that were marked down dirt cheap. No pun intended... Paid a quarter for the purse/pocket size.

Your sunset picture is beautiful. I can remember things from my childhood like it was yesterday.

It's wonderful you got some Christmas shopping done too, I did the same and got some things at Dollar General for my two grandbabies. So fun!

I was able to purchase quite a few canned goods and extra bag of dog food for my emergency stash (a bit worried about any interruptions this week) and a second jar of popcorn for our stash. I told hubs that I got that idea from you! : ) I also bought more canned tomatoes, you were the one to remind of us that valued item for cooking in an emergency. (Wow, so true! I'm half Italian and even my potatoes are baked with tomatoes!)

Hoping you will have a productive week and that you will continue to have a nice birthday time of month. I have thought of you, I know you lost your husband last year and this kind of thing is very hard. You are a blessing here in blogland. When I was buying something on special, I would just buy 2-3 times as much as I immediately needed. It all adds up, and frequently much faster than you think.

Another piece of advice I got from an impoverished college student was "never run out of anything." It always seems to cost more when you are out, especially if you make a dash to a mini-mart to get it. If you are out of toothpaste, buy TWO and add toothpaste to your list when you open the second tube. Always have at least one of everything in reserve. If you start stocking up on things when they are on sale, pretty soon you will have more than one item of everything in reserve.

When you are buying in quantity, it helps to put the date on the package with a sharpie, and to put new items behind older ones. Also, remember that consumables don't automatically "expire" on the date on the package.

Good luck!
mikemaxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06569666073239903588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7341912661779864632.post-23063726077516964282020-11-01T14:00:00.065-05:002020-11-01T14:00:00.065-05:00Happy birthday! I have started...Belated Happy Birthday from me too!
I have started my Christmas shopping. With one family in another state, I purchase online and ship directly there. I use the name line to designate who it's for. Ex: ForSally JoeSmith. As long as the last name is correct and the address, it gets there. Or sometimes I'll put it on the box if I have to ship/mail from here.
The local family I can wait and purchase locally in my little home town. I usually buy everyone's books from our Indy Book Store or art decor from our Art Gallery. And then there are always gift certificates to the grocery or restaurants.

Different subject: Today I am making breakfast sandwiches. I purchased a dozen croissants for $5. We have the sausage from the hog we bought & had processed. Eggs were $4.50 for 18. I have the cheese. I know a box of Jimmy Dean's (4 per pkg) are almost $5. I used the price of JD's sausage and I found I am not really saving anything. Comes out to the same price. BUT, I'm pretty sure my sausage would come out cheaper per/lb. If nothing else, I know what's in it and I know where the eggs, sausage came from.
I'm off to strain and package up the chicken stock I made yesterday. I'll make another batch today. I have about 6 more carcasses to use out of the freezer. I need the room!
Enjoy the warmer temps. We'll be in the 70s this week. Crazy for November!
