The words you quote were written by th...Hi Cheryl,

The words you quote were written by the Reverend William Boetcker In 1916, well after Lincoln was shot down in cold blood for his beliefs. Boetcker also wrote the seven national crimes, which are as follows:

I don’t think.
I don’t know.
I don’t care.
I am too busy.
I leave well enough alone.
I have no time to read and find out.
I am not interested.

It's unfortunate that so many of these are still uttered today but it's heartening to see how many people are learning, and researching, and fighting to make the world a better and more equitable place.

Two more thoughts, it's lovely that you and I put ourselves through school but that's much harder to do now. If you look at the price of education versus general inflation. When I had two sons at the state school the combined cost of their education was more than I made in a year.

Two, for your readers that are struggling with the idea of privilege, try imagining you are black, or gay, or Muslim. (Or all three!) Would the difficulties and financial problems you faced have been easier or harder if you were a Pakistani immigrant? Being privileged doesn't mean life is smooth sailing, it means many of us have at least one blessing that makes the difficult a little easier to bear. Hope that helps! Have a wonderful day!Georgianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17635375996541358810noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7341912661779864632.post-47510912771117825392018-01-25T12:41:55.847-05:002018-01-25T12:41:55.847-05:00AMEN Agree 110%.

We choose not to learn from the past or we don't know our history to begin with. As a former teacher, I was appalled to see how much of our nation's history was either whitewashed, twisted to fit the current political climate and agenda or just plain omitted. This coupled with the "you owe me and I am so offended by everything anyone does" attitude along with people protesting anything under the sun and in most cases having no clue what they are protesting or the actual facts drives me and my well read and hard working, common sense millennial kids absolutely bonkers. There is a disconnect among so many people, both younger and in our generation too who really need to wake up and face reality. Remember the saying "Use it or lose it"? We have lost the ability to "Live" our lives without someone telling us what, how and when to do or not to do something. ("You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence." If we don't use our COMMON SENSE on our own, we'll lose it. And that may be what has happened. The last sentence in that quote is even more important. Have none of these law makers studied History? They are more inclined to sweep it under the rug e.g. taking down statues and outlawing the 10 commandments and prayers in public places. They say history repeats itself. What will be repeated in the future? I fear for my grandchildren and great grandchildren.

I could go on and on about this, but I think it best if I stop now.
Krishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12293012592263272563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7341912661779864632.post-74418197573208478742018-01-24T15:26:36.128-05:002018-01-24T15:26:36.128-05:00And AMEN! I am a homesteading wife, mother and grandmother, living a frugal, "back to basics' lifestyle in IL. So many of your posts find me thinking to myself, THAT'S how I do it, or I've been doing that for decades..I totally agree with the quote you posted today by Abraham Lincoln. There is a lack of compassion, moral fiber, decency, self respect, and just plain desire to do the right thing and live a decent honest life these days. I'm thinking this is the ideal time to have "actions speak louder than words"..and each do our part to set a good example..and hopefully these actions will cause a ripple effect and goodness will come of it. One never knows when an act of kindness will have such a huge impact on someone else that it truly WILL make a difference. Do they really think it was a privilege to be raised poor by a mother who worked nights at a rest home for $50 a month? Benefits are meant to help people through hard times, not to support them for a life time. I am proud to say at a time when I needed them, food stamps fed my family of three small children for 2 months. I was offered them longer, but two months was all I needed until I was back on my feet. We need a revolution to return the "system" to what it was meant to do. Provide temporary aid, not a lifetime of subsistence.
