That is so cool.
I love genealogy as well. I wish I had started years earlier, so my Daddy would have seen what I learned. I guess it doesn't matter now - as he is with all those folks!
That is how I developed my love of all things Amish - yep ancestors!
How cool on the flowers and butterflies. What a wonderful hobby and you learn and if you pass it on you are helping others as well.
If we are growing - we should be learning!Cheryl Kimbleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06485771676254429681noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7341912661779864632.post-84649896865498689742020-05-01T14:07:23.782-04:002020-05-01T14:07:23.782-04:00I think most of us are reading blogs on frugality ...I think most of us are reading blogs on frugality in part to learn new frugal ways. At least I am.

My father also used to ask the same question at the supper table.
If I said I hadn't learned anything in school that day (which happened often), I got a dinner table lesson in advanced mathematics or engineering. A checkered table cloth makes a great two-dimensional grid, points were plotted with the salt and pepper shakers, and lines were knives and forks. I went on to get a degree in Math in college.

I developed a lifelong love of history and genealogy by reading the Laura Ingalls Wilder books in early grade school and listening to my older relatives' stories about my ancestors' lives in Kansas as pioneers. Where were my ancestors and why did they go there? Just this past week I fell down a rabbit hole looking for my 3gr-grandmother who owned Catholic statues (despite no one else in the family being Catholic). I am the sixth generation to own them, and I want to solve the mystery. Genealogy research also kept my brain from turning to guacamole while I spent 13 years as a stay-at-home mother, too.

When the company I worked for suddenly closed three years ago, I found myself needing a diversion, so I began cataloging the wildflowers I encountered when I walked the local walking trail. I would take pictures on my cellphone and look up the flowers on the internet or in field books at home. Nothing formal, just the colloquial names. I was starting to do the same with butterflies and moths when my smart phone died and I couldn't take pictures any longer. Maybe someday I'll get back to it when I have a good way to take pictures.

Possessing an insatiable curiosity, I have been learning all my life, whether formally or informally. I hope I never stop.Franceshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05407751263369340933noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7341912661779864632.post-4096670785279327972020-04-30T18:50:17.967-04:002020-04-30T18:50:17.967-04:00what a fun way to learn! Just this morning, I was fondly remembering my grammar school days when we would have the May Day celebration; we were the last school in my town to still do this. That got me wondering about the origins of that festival, so I looked it up. That led to studies of Celtic festivals of equinox and solstice. I spent a very entertaining hour learning a lot.
