Hope you all had a great and successful week. What have you all been up to?
I have just been doing the same old, same old.
Let's see this week brought about;
- Lots more canning and freezing of garden produce. We sure have been blessed
- We received a $150 FREE debit card from phone/tv/internet provider! WOOHOO!!!!
- I received a $5/$30 coupon from Aldi this week. They never have coupons around here. I will be using before the end of the month.
- We had 2 glorious days of weather this week, which enabled me to get out and do a ton of yard work, without having heat stroke! FREE exercise.
- Also got to have 2 days no AC this week
- I ran to the Dollar Tree (needed to get out), and got some things for stock up. I got 3 shelf stable milk, 2 cans coconut milk, 2 large cans of black olives, 6 bottles of baby aspirin
- Ran to Kroger for .99/lb. chicken thighs for freezer. Also got a few things on the clearance isle.
- Grapes are just starting to ripen. I picked a some today and canned 4 quarts of juice. Hoping for a lot more - the grapes are hanging thick out there!!
It's made from potato starch, tapioca flour and cream of tartar.
We have eaten lots of goodies from the garden this week. I made bruschetta Saturday evening with items from the garden and a .99/loaf of clearance Italian bread. It was yummy. Tonight was homemade pizza with lots of fresh veggies. Doesn't get much better.
I pray you all have a safe and wonderful week.
Check in and let us know what's happening in your neck of the woods.
This week we canned up six quarts and seven pints of tomatoes. The pickle gift gave us seven pints of hamburger chips. The remaining two zucchini bats yielded seven pints of relish. And the beefsteak tomatoes, well, one or two tomato/mayo/toast sandwiches a day have kept me in the Garden of Eatin Heaven!
ReplyDeleteI did two restock trips: one to WalMart for household supplies where sadly the rebate was $2.53 and the average item price was $1.89. The one at Weis Markets was much better for actual food: 48 jars of tomato sauce in various flavors, frozen pierogies, frozen juices and lemonade, frozen veggies that we don’t grow in the garden, chicken leg quarters for $0.98 a pound, canned veggies, bbq sauce for an average of $1.19 per item. Much better at the local grocery store. Weis also gave out $5 off $25 shopping so I used that to further reduce the bill.
I have not used the dollar stores for food items. I really need to check that out. Our Aldi’s trip is soon too! It may be that my dh will do that one so I need to get the list ready for him!
DH and I will redo the deck garden and this time I am thinking food not shrubs. Planning for next year! It will be better for our apple trees to get rid of the cedar bush as the trees and the bush have a terrible cedar-apple rust cycle going on.
Hi Ellen,
Deletesounds like you got quite a good haul for stock-up. Oh, I LOVE tomato sandwiches! W had BLT one night last week for dinner.
I found one of those baseball bats in my garden last week - right there in plain sight - or it should have been. Those leaves sure are tricky.
Good going on all the canning. It sure will taste good this winter.
