Just a Howdy

Happy Tuesday to all.  Well, we survived the 'great eclipse' event!!  LOL
No apocalypse, so onward and forward!  I just heard so much doom and gloom - it was amazing.  I think that is what made me not a fan!  It got fairly dark for about 3 1/2 minutes (in totality) here, the streetlights came on and so did my dusk to dawn lights.  Much against what scientists said, my birds never missed a beat - they continued to chirp and eat!  Of course, I hear birds at 5AM and at 9PM in the dark every single day.
They predicted hours of being stuck in traffic afterwards - and the news said the traffic was lighter than any day in recent memory!
We did have 10's of thousands extra people come into town - and William Shatner was here and gave a speech right before!  I mean nobody else had Captain Kirk!  LOL
Oh well, I guess lots of people had a grand time and that is all good.

Anyhow, I have a busy day ahead, so today I am keeping things short and sweet today.

I love the above meme - it just says it all.
Don't let people get to you.  Stop worrying about what people think or say.  You are you - and you are great.  Don't let others try to sway your thoughts.
Staying grounded and true to yourself is the best gift you can give yourself and truthfully to others.
When people disagree with you - graciously smile and go on.  When you disagree with others, well again, smile and go on.  No scene is necessary.
Guard your space - don't let others tread on it and choke out your joy.

I hope you all have a wonderful day.
Be you and be beautiful!

  1. It's almost as if people forgot about the eclipse in 2017. Perhaps it wasn't as widely reported on just those few years ago.
    Enjoy your day!

    1. Maebeme, I feel the same way about the one in 2017. We saw it and it was awesome.

    2. I agree 100%. I remember it and was outside when it happened. It was not a total here back then - but just about the same effect. It was total somewhere, and I sure don't remember all the craziness then! People have changed.

  2. "Guard your space"...words of wisdom!

We watched the eclipse from the backyard and it is an experience we probably will not have again in our lifetime. Just glad we didn't drive hundreds of miles to see it. The chickens muttered amongst themselves. "Bossy, is it time to go to bed?" "No, Sweet Thing, we haven't had our supper yet." The wild birds were still singing and flying around.

Enjoy your day! Cooler, breezy and overcast, just perfect for weeding.

    1. Yes, if we don't guard our spaces - no one else will.
Too funny on the chickens - yep, got to have dinner before bedtime - you crazy chicken!
      It is really lovely today.

  3. I remember the 2017 one, not because I saw it, but the horrendous traffic when I was trying to get home from Camp.

This one was a bust for me: total gray skies, every bit as gloomy as today which is 100% rain. Shoot, I couldn't even figure out where in the sky the sun was supposed to be!

That said, I had a very good day working out in my yard, so I was a happy camper. :)

    1. Amazing the traffic! Wow.
Well, at least it gave you a day to work in the yard with no regrets!!! Happy is all that matters!

  4. We were in the 94% coverage and I enjoyed a BBQ with friends, followed by watching the eclipse. The birds in her yard did quit chirping and her pup curled up underneath her chair and didn't want to come out for awhile, so she just let him nap. I completely missed the one in 2017. I had an interior office and was working on a big project and completely missed it. So, this one was extra special for me. Love the wisdom from the standpoint of a tree. I've been heeding those words more and more. Thank you for the extra reminder. :-)

    1. Glad you got to have a good time. My kitties napped - but then again they are always napping!
I thought they were pretty good words. I try harder each day and week to heed this.

  5. We survived the eclipse here too, although it was minor compared to what you had and the extra people, and William Shatner! Wow!

I like your advice too, don't let someone else upset your peace, it's just not worth it. Being at peace with myself is worth so much to me.

    1. Oh heck yes, we were popular for the eclipse. They did a big thing at the Speedway and he was there, there were race car drivers to meet and an astronaut too. Bands - big to do!!
Your last sentence says so much. If you aren't at peace with yourself, you can't be content with the rest of it.

  6. We were in the 100% totality and it was clear and sunny here. It was an amazing experience. The temperature dropped quite a bit and the birds here did all fly away as soon as it started to get a bit dark. It was an awesome experience. We saw the pearls and the diamond ring along with Venus. It made me realize what a small tiny part of this universe I really am.

    1. That is for sure. We are nothing but a grain of sand in the big picture of things. Glad you enjoyed it and had a lovely day.

  7. We did not get much eclipse here, but the one we saw in Yellowstone 7 years ago was crazy. The traffic was held up for hours.

    1. Isn't that something. here we had thousands and thousands come into the city and the roads weren't half bad. Of course a lot of business closed and schools were out.
      Sorry you missed it!

  8. That sounds like a fun time. I think they have to prepare us for the worst scenario - then we are happy when it isn't so bad! That was nice of him to open for everyone - of course he scored some good will!
It just looked like a real stormy sky to me when
the 'lights went out' yesterday. We get so many nasty storms in the spring and summer - that is what I thought of.
    Warm up!!!

  9. We did get about 97% coverage but we didn't have glasses so we watched on t.v. and looked out the window when it got darker. They said the #1 google search was: why do my eyes hurt, after the eclipse. Apparently some people didn't take heed to wear glasses!
    Have a great day!

    1. I heard that too! Good grief - you should know not to look at the sun period, let alone during an eclipse!
      No crowds on TV!!

  10. You had Captain Kirk!!! So envious. I had quite the crush on him and Lenard Nimoy back in the day. Too cloudy here to see anything at all. Which is okay as I have lived through many a partial and full eclipse in my life (surprising when I looked back).

    God bless.

    1. Yes, Captain Kirk was here! LOL He was a pretty good looking man back in the day - still amazes me at his age.
I have seen a lot of partials over the years too. I am always shocked when people say they have never seen even a partial.

  11. I was with my sister at a nature conservancy near Indy and saw the eclipse. There are owls in the woods, and they began hooting! Traffic back to Lafayette was heavy, so we switched to the smaller back roads. I hope you've had a good day!

    1. Hi - oh how neat. That would be something to hear the owls. I heard the traffic north of here was much, much different than the interstates here in town. Glad you had a good and safe day.

  12. Birds did all start flying about, to home, I imagine. Then, they quit. Then different birds, evening birds?, started singing. We were supposed to get 89% here. The clouds covered the first minute or so, then I watched through my glasses and took pictures. Finally, when it was almost done, the clouds came back. It was spectacular.
In 2017, I 65 was a parking lot. The traffic took us longer to get to my house, and then Tommy got caught in the traffic after a wreck, so he was hours later getting home, and it is just one hour longer to his house.
We listened in 2017 and carried change of clothes, pillows, extra food (PBJ and loaf of bread, extra water, 5 gal bucket and garbage bags. We did not know what we would face. But, it worked out okay for us.
MTG was the doomsayer. I don't listen to far right religious nuts.

    1. I am glad you enjoyed it. The police had those warnings here this time. I thought it was kind of overplay. And it was. But I guess they always prepare for the worst.
I am happy so many people enjoyed it. I guess I am the odd ball - just wasn't a big deal to me.
