Hello to everyone! How are you all doing? It is another cool morning here, and I am loving it. Windows and doors open at the moment, birds are singing, and the sun is shining. It is a good day.
The clover is open all over the place and goodness does it smell heavenly outside. So many honey bees a buzz as well - a wonderful sight!
Today are just a couple ideas, that basically cost nothing (or very little) and helps us out a bit.
Does anyone remember wearing scarves back in the day, tied at the back of the head/neck? Like in the 60's and 70's.
I used to do this a lot when my hair was long. I still like a scarf now, when working out in the yard. It keeps hair out of eyes, keeps me cooler, and just keeps 'stuff' from getting in my hair when mowing and trimming. I have little luck now. My hair is short - it always wants to fall off and even with clips I have trouble. So, I saw something on FB and gave it a try and boy does it work!!!Hot glue your bandana to a headband - it stays right in place! I had both on hand - so gave it a try. Place the headband on your head - then tie the bandana behind your neck and it stays right in place. Works perfectly for me! Maybe you can use this as well.I thought it was pretty clever!
And just a reminder to THINK before spending!!!!!
Lemon is so refreshing in the summer. I love lemon in water or iced tea. Here is a way to make nice size cubes for your drinks with your lemon right in it!
Perfect. You could put wedges in smaller cubes as well - but I like these big cubesCooking fish on the grill? Lemon goes with fish - so here is a nifty idea for the grill.
Make a bed of lemon slices on the grill top with fish and cook. Get the flavors of the lemon yet keeps fish from sticking to the grill grates! We can live a wonderful life, a thrifty life, and a fun life - without spending a ton of money. Just get a little creative and have fun. Some of my favorite things to do cost ZERO money.
Porch sitting and visiting with neighbors - or just sitting in quiet
Listening and watching nature
Gardening and taking care of my yard
Reading and "visiting" a different place!
Being with family
Loving on my fur baby
Go to the park and enjoy the sights and the people and the quiet
Taking walks
Go out there and have a beautiful day and get a little creative today.
Many blessings to all.
I like the bandana tip. I’m going to find the instructions!
ReplyDeleteBasically all I did was fold it into a triangle - turn over an inch or so on long part - glue - then turn again and place hot glue on the band and stick the scarf. It was super easy and just took a couple minutes. I am sure pictures would do better showing it, than I describe.
DeleteWhat a neat idea on the bandana! I’ve been looking for headband that will work with my shorter hair too. I like the lemon idea. I do that with onions when I grill hamburgers and then we put the grilled onions on our hamburger buns. Delicious!
ReplyDeleteIt does a good job. Keeps things covered, out of eyes and free from sweat. Stays in place - is the biggy!!!
DeleteGood idea on the onions - sounds perfect.
Good idea. I just put a ball cap on, but winning no style points there!
ReplyDeleteI haven't found one that feels right to me. I like the scarf - works great.
DeleteLove the bandana idea! I used to wear a scarf or bandana in that same way. The Farmer had two fedora type hats with the mesh in the top that were too tight on him, so I wear one of those. Protects my hair from the sun and the brim protects my eyes.
ReplyDeleteLemons are a wonderful creation. Not only the flavor but that crisp, lovely fragrance. Back in the day when we were eating sweets, lemon meringue pie was a favorite.
There are so many wonderful things to do that don't cost an arm and leg. This time of year the Farmer and I can usually be found in the backyard, tending growing plants and weeding. I need to pull the rest of the green onions, turnips and check for strawberries this morning. Lots of deadheading to be done also. Erin has Stella d'Oro lilies that I shared with her from some Alana bought me years ago. They spread so they can be divided and planted elsewhere. A bright spot of yellow in the garden that will bloom all summer long. I don't understand how a person can be bored with so much gardening to be done. Food or flowers, it is a joy.
Enjoy this beautiful day!
I have a big floppy garden hat too - when I want to feel FUN in the garden!!!
DeleteI have gotten into lemon scent candles lately. Just love the smell. Leon anything is good to me.
I don't understand boredom either. Always something going on. My d-Oro lilies are blooming now too - so pretty. So are the tiger lilies.
Life is a bounty of fun.
Yes, many free things to do that are very satisfying! Singing, gardening, reading, napping, just watching this beautiful world unfold. :)
ReplyDeleteToday I took my Father's Day gift to my DS (dear son), left it on his workbench. He's a good daddy to his littles, and I want to be sure he knows I'm aware of what he does, that I respect and admire him for his dedication and caring. Hard to believe Father's Day is this Sunday!

I agree, there are so many free things we can do - if we just do them.
DeleteThat was sweet of you to gift to your son. I bet he is a good daddy. I wish I had someone to gift to - but no more around. I miss those days.
I love walking and people watching, and it doesn't cost anything.
ReplyDeleteMe too. Porch sitting is a favorite pastime as well.
DeleteHey, I’m gonna give that headband/bandana a try! Thanks. ๐ Grilled salmon and lemon ๐ I’ve started up bike riding again in my ripe old age๐ It is so freeing…time stops and it’s just you and the breeze and the birds. I know I looked hilarious the first few times I tried getting back on the bike, but, oh well๐คญ
ReplyDeleteWe’ve been enjoying porch sitting with our cat, too.
Stay well,
Mary in OK
It is nice - I love mine.
DeleteGood for you!!!! I still have my bike, it needs new tires for sure. But I have kept old bike on purpose. You just never know! Great exercise. Who cares how it looks - have fun.
I wore a bandana on my head in 60s. i like to keep sun from my hair. Pollen is something I try to avoid carrying inside on long hair. i like a cute sunhat these days.
ReplyDeleteI think most of us of a certain age wore a bandana back in the day. They were THE thing!
DeleteI never thought about pollen in my hair - guess that is a possibility too.
I actually made a three cornered kerchief with ties on the two ends of the longer side to wear. Heck I just might make some more and try them with a headband this summer.
ReplyDeleteI love walks, sitting on the deck and listening to the birds, working on my projects. Never a boring minute here.
God bless.
I remember making them with ties to match outfits back in the day too. They sure seemed to fit better when I had long hair. The headband just keeps it in place - that is what I like.
DeleteLove that we can do little things and never be bored!
I still wear those in my hair. I LOOOOVE them. Love them. I have a few different styles and they are the best. Great chart you posted.
ReplyDeleteScarves serve a lot of purposes. We all need ideas to take care of ourselves and to save a few dollars!
