Happy Sunday to all. Hope this finds all well and safe. I am still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that it is October! I mean seriously. Time is flying by so fast, and the holidays will be here in no time. I just can't get my head around it all.
It is still 2 seasons per day. Fall feeling in the morn and summer feel in the late afternoon. I now have cracks again in the back yard - it is very dry again. Looks like we may get some rain Tuesday - but according to radar, not a lot here. We will cool to fall like temps for a couple days later in the week, then back to warm again. I sure do like this weather.
It seems that in my area, it is stink bug, small fly, and sweat bee season!!!! The stinky ones are everywhere. The little flies are like Velcro! They attach to you when you go out without you knowing it, and then you bring them in! Those little bees are everywhere as well.
My backyard looks like a mini war zone! The squirrels collect the walnuts down the alley, and then come to my yard (I guess they feel safe) and plant them! They dig little places all over. LOL
My frugal week:
- Received a $5 off at least a $5 purchase from the local hardware store (for birthday month). Will go visit at some point this month
- Froze the 2nd container of chili my niece sent home with me
- Made a bowl of the Pay Day candy/nut mix with items I had here
- Cut up 2 old t-shirts into hankies
- Mowed and trimmed the entire back yard (and back 40) - boy was it dusty as I mowed. There were a lot of stringy weeds & leaves
- Lots of walks
- Cut my hair (it sure needed it)
- Made a bowl of tom/cuke/onion salad to eat on over the week
- Washed a few windows
- Deadheaded more flowers from out front and cleaned out the front beds some more
- Shared lots of tomatoes - green and red. I heard a neighbor had been craving fried green tomatoes, so gave her some green ones
- Picked around 15 lbs. of tomatoes and peppers
- NO grocery shopping
- Using what I have and cooking at home
- AC off most of the time
- Just working on the fall clean
My menu this past week:
Chili and crackers
Chili, sour cream baked potato
BLT and cut up fresh veggies
Green beans/potato/sm. sausage, and sliced tomatoes
Burger topped with sauteed peppers and cheese (no bun) and tom/cuke/onion salad
Half chicken breast, fried green tomatoes and salad
Homemade pizza hot pockets (freezer) and salad
SNACKS: salad, fruit, apple & PB, candy/nut mix
Pretty quiet and easy. This weekend it is quiet around here as many of the neighbors are gone for the weekend. Heck, yesterday I even did 2 nice walks. It was so pretty out.
Seems life is just flying by so quickly. I hope you are taking time to enjoy as well as prep for winter.
Prayers that everyone has a blessed week ahead. May you all be safe, healthy and happy in the upcoming week.
Blessings to you and yours from me and my humble little home.

Prove me, O Lord, and try me; test my heart and my mind. For thy steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in faithfulness to thee.
Proverbs 26:2-3
Lord again we come forward and give thanks for all the blessings we received each day. Help us each to keep our faith no matter the test. Faith is unending and felt, to me it is just being. Let us all do good for others, and pray for all, friends and foes. Help us to be Your soldiers here on earth. AMEN
I love the seasons. Fall brings spectacular colors of yellow, orange, red which we enjoyed on a visit to a friend's house an hour away. She lives on the N Saskatchewan river & the views were truly spectacular, as was the potato soup & homemade bread (baked in her outdoor wood stove). A friend gifted me tomatoes so I made 6 qts of salsa & preserved 7 qts of tomatoes. I'll make some sauce or soup w/ the remainder. There was a lot of bedding to wash after the houseguests last w/e. I love the smell of laundry fresh off the outdoor clothesline. Fall cleanup continues in the yard w/ freezing temps forecast this week. I had friends in for lunch & scrabble w/ each of us winning a game. In the kitchen: leftover Italian sausages w/ sauteed peppers & onions, pyrogies; pickle soup; chicken noodle soup & egg salad sandwiches; rice & peppers; lemon loaf; chicken caesar salad; veg w/ dip. Have a good week, Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteGlad you have gotten to enjoy the colors of fall. We have nne yet, just too warm and too dry. We usually need a good frost for colors to really saturate the area. YAY, on getting all those tomatoes. You did indeed make some great things that will be enjoyed over the winter.
DeleteBedding just off the line smells so good. Scrabble was my dad's favorite game. He was a 'word' man!
All your meals sound just wonderful.
Have a wonderful week.
Excellent devotional! We are all tried and it makes us stronger.
ReplyDeleteThis weather is actually quite lovely right now. Where else can you get two seasons in a day? ha! The higher temps are bearable as the humidity is lower. Time is absolutely flying by. Erin is the Westerfield social secretary and she told me that my nephew Keith is 61 today. Talk about time going by in a rush. I remember when all those kids were little.
Having salmon patties today with leftover Harvard beets (beets from the garden) with some small carrots added, peas, and that lovely salad you mentioned, tomato, cuke (we have fresh ones) and onion salad. All the salad is from the garden.
Does anyone ever hear from Elise? I have been praying for Elle's husband (and her). Lots going on in your blogging family.
See you Tuesday!
Yep, 2 seasons a day. It just feels marvelous out - no complaints here. I hear ya, I have nieces and nephews in the 50's and 60's - and it sure makes me feel even older!
DeleteSalmon patties sound good. I just love that salad - always been a summer favorite.
I used to see Elise post on a couple other blogs, then after her mom passed, I don't think I have seen here again. At least not under her name. I often wonder who some of the anonymous folks are - but that is their choice. Sometimes I think I know, just by the wording!!
Same here, I sure hope Elle's hubby is improving.
Have a super week.
Salmon patties sound delicious. I often see some of the regular people not posting. Praying for everyone. Well my cancer is back after 7 months of remission. I feel good as of now. Going for biospy on wednesday. Also some heart dishes. I am in a better place now from when I first found out about the first round of cancer. They still want me to do stem cell transplant turning it down 3 weeks hospital thn stay in area 100 days. hospitals are 3 hours away and no gurantees. so doing treatment they offer here. we wil see if biospy shows if removing any lympn nodes will help. living one day at a time to the best I can and postive thoughts. Prayers to all. Joyce pa
DeleteJoyce so sorry to hear you are going through this again. You know that you have my prayers. Please do what you think can do and keep positive and PRAY above all else. You can do this.
DeleteI don't blame you and I wouldn't want to be that far away for such a long period either. Many blessings to you dear lady.
Thank you. I am in a better place this time. I feel healthy at the moment. Take care.
DeleteYes, it’s hard to believe it is already October. Speaking of Christmas, I found some wrapping paper at a yard sale yesterday and two Christmas themed containers to give as Christmas presents. I’ll put some candy inside each one when the time comes.
ReplyDeleteThe weather is so nice here right now. I’ve been outside and walking already this morning. And yard sales went much later than usual yesterday due to the very nice weather.
Oh my gosh, yes on the walnuts and squirrels! They bring me one every day and break it open on my welcome mat. Those and the stink bugs are both little stinkers! 😂
That was so sweet of you to share your green tomatoes with your neighbor. 💕
This is good chili weather, I need to make some of that soon.
I hope you have a blessed week ahead too, Cheryl.
Sounds like a good shopping venture! How fun. I have had 2 walks today, as I type this. It is breezy and sunny and just lovely.
DeleteYep, they are all 'stinkers'!!
Heck, it is so late in the season and I really don't know her, but heard through the grapevine how she has craved fried green tomatoes. Why not give her some - it is just a nice gesture.
Later in the week as it gets much cooler, I will probably get that chili out that I froze.
Have a beautiful week.
Very nice weather. Watching Church General Conference (Salt Lake) in my phone. Technology is astounding sometimes! Glorious weather. Finally we had a couple of days just under 90. I love fall! My mustards greens produce enough for a couple of salads a week and my small tomato plant that I didn’t plant ( the ones I did plant, didn’t make…. lol) is giving enough small tomatoes for a couple of sandwiches this week. I think these were rogue seeds from a small tomato leftovers I threw out. They didn’t grow during regular tomato season here. Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely weather. Glad you are getting under 90.
DeleteThose volunteer plants can really give off some goodies. I usually let them thrive - and they do! Glad you are getting yummy freshness you can enjoy.
Have a wonderful week.
DD has flown away and now is safely landed on the continent where she lives. I breathe a sigh of relief! It was a wonderful visit, we had fun, and yummy food, although much was in restaurants. Kind of like Party Time for the family. :) Only happens once or twice a year.
ReplyDeleteI also think about Elise often and wonder how she is doing.
Today, to keep my mind off international flights over the sea, I planted two large buckets of bulbs that needed to be separated as they had become so crowded they hardly bloomed at all last spring. Now they'll grow and eventually will bloom. Me, the mattock, a bottle of fertilizer, and work outdoors - really calms this mom's jitters! :D

I am so happy you got that time with your daughter. It sounds like you both had a wonderful visit and a grand time together. Glad the travels were safe.
DeleteGood honest hard work is good for the soul and what ails us! Glad it helped and you will also have lots of pretties to enjoy in the future.
Have a blessed week.
It's cool here today, woke to 5C/41F and expecting a high of only 10C/50F. It's sunny though which is nice.
ReplyDeleteWe've got things to do indoors today but I will head out to the garden in the next couple of days to dig up the carrots and onions, such as they are. I'll leave the sweetpeas but will pull some seed pods. I'll use some debris to cover the strawberries and that will be the end of the growing season. :(
You are correct, this year has truly flown by! I expect that will continue...Dad always said life seems to speed up as one grows older.
That is chilly. We are expecting a couple days on the high 60'sF later on in the week - look forward to those.
DeleteThere are always those end of the season chores.
Mom used to say that too - and I thought is sounded crazy. Now I am believer as I age.
Have a wonderful week.
For me it's the holiday season right now! Has been for a bit now. Wishing you a great week ahead with lots of good savings for yourself and what makes your own heart sing.
ReplyDeleteYou like all the various holidays! I am not into Halloween at all these days but do like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Enjoy your time.
DeleteI hope you have a great week as well.
Cheryl, it's like you read my mind and tell me what I "MUST" be reminded of. Hubster's surgery is behind him, his recovery process in 5 days is beyond mindblowing (I'm a OR RN, so I've seen what he had done). His lungs are back to at least 80%, his heart is beginning to go back to normal size (enlarging is part of the long surgery and a lot of fluid so not alarming), he's walking, his sense of humor was NOT sent to pathology with his cancer🤣🤣. Yeah, he carried his walker by the Nurse's station and they laughed at him.
ReplyDeleteOnly 2 tubes remain and that is normal. Plan is to go home Tuesday after 1 of those comes out. The other is a feeding tube for 6 ish weeks.
We are so so so grateful for all who are on his Prayer Warrior team. So many people who haven't even met him. God simply couldn't ignore ya'll, he gave us what we asked him to give. By his Grace, here we are.
Thank you Thank you all.
Thank you for the great report!!! It sounds like he is an exceptional patient. Glad he still has his sense of humor - that is huge. So glad he will be home soon, and you will both rest much better and together in some peaceful environment.
DeleteGod has blessed you both and will continue to do so. Prayers will continue.
Have a blessed and beautiful week.
That is wonderful to hear Elle. May he continue to improve day by day.
DeleteI had a lovely and quiet day again today. I think that by purposely trying to simplify my life things are once again moving at a pace I can enjoy. Cool here as well. Not quite as cool as it was at Maebeme's place but cool enough.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Those are the best days. Yes, simplifying in other ways, makes life peaceful and calm. That is wonderful for you.
DeleteHave a blessed week.
So glad to hear from Elle. I'll keep praying. Joyce, I'll be praying for you too.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week ahead Margaret.
DeleteWe are supposed to get a decent amount of rain Tuesday, but the weather center says it still won't be enough to lift us out of drought status.
ReplyDeleteMy oldest started his injections this week for his eczema so that was a 3 hour round trip drive. Thankfully we are able to do them at home from now on. I filled up gas using my .10 off per gallon from my Walmart+ membership. He wanted Chinese buffet afterwards so we did splurge on that, but we all got water to save on the cost (free vs $2.80 per person for soda).
We got books and movies from the library, I found a good deal on applesauce and apple juice, I won a Bath& Body Works hand soap at a baby shower, took the kids to the park for free entertainment and exercise, picked a couple of tomatoes.
I hope you get a good rain. We are supposed to get 'some' but not nearly what we need.
DeleteGlad you can do those injections at home from now on. That is great. G and I used to go to Chinese Buffet once in a while - he loved it.
Sounds like other than the trip - it was pretty frugal for you.
Have a great week.
I'm glad you had a nice and productive week Cheryl. Time does go by so quickly I'm constantly reminding myself to cherish and enjoy each moment. We're supposed to get rain later today and it would be great if we actually did. I hope you have another lovely week.
ReplyDeleteThe days go quickly for sure - and we surely need to embrace and enjoy them all.
DeleteI sure hope we get some rain. It is pretty cloudy at the moment - we'll see!
Have a lovely week.
Our weather is the same as yours...hope we do get that rain on Tuesday it's very dry. A freeze is on the weather map too so I'll go pick my green tomatoes in a minute. Love those birthday month freebies so fun. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteYes mam we need rain for sure. A freeze? Yikes. Nothing like that forecast for here for a while. Thankful!
DeleteAll those little things add up and help us get a few fun freebies!
Have a nice week.
I am playing catch up with all your posts from the past few weeks, phew you sure do a lot of stuff for someone who claims to live a quiet life !!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have all had some kind of virus that has laid us all low over the past few weeks, it seemed to pick us off one by one. Anyway we are all in the mend now.
Have a lovely week Cheryl, take care, Louise.
Glad to hear from you. So sorry you have all been sick. I hope everyone is on the mend and feeling much better.
DeleteIt sounds like I do a lot, but most is just small stuff. It's just me, so I kind of have to take care of things myself.
Have a great week!
