Weekly Wrap Up 4/5

 HAPPY EASTER!

Hello to all this first Sunday of April and this glorious Easter Sunday.  I hope this finds you all well and safe and loved.
It is a chilly morning here today, compared to other days this past week.  The heat has not turned on this week - I imagine that will end tonight and tomorrow.  Monday evening, we are supposed to get below freezing for a night or so.
Yes, He has.  The most incredible blessing and gift we could ever receive.

My frugal week:
  • Menards run on Monday - mentioned that I got myself a couple new 'yard toys' to take care of things and make life easier for me - get an 11% rebate as well.  I also got some very inexpensive heirloom seeds to have on hand.
  • Stopped and got my monthly gas while out - 3.49 gal. after discount
  • My regular thrift store has opened a new food pantry - and they advertised 'celery' on FB.  It was a "please come and get all you want - we have skids full"!  Didn't even have to go in - and it was one block from getting gas.  I stopped and got 4 packs - organic
                                                                        I got a total of 4
  • While at the gas station I ran in Kroger as well (gas in parking lot).  Well, I got the deal of the year so far!!!!  73% lean ground beef for a grand total of 1.95 lb.!!!!!!  It came in 3 lb. rolls.  I usually buy leaner meat and don't usually get the rolls - but was not going to pass that up!
Did I need?  No.  Will I use?  You bet - freezers are now fuller!!!!!
  • I made 18 packages of ground beef for the freezer
  • I cut up celery (3 of them) and froze - 4th is in crisper
  • I have the ends of 3 stalks of celery in water to root - they have already started sprouting!
  • No heat needed all week
  • Lots of walks - picking up trash - talking to people - porch sitting
  • Mowed the entire yard - front to back
  • Did some sewing
  • Aired the house
  • Made Cheerio crispy treats to take to nieces today - had everything here, and all was from sales or clearance
  • Just basic cleaning, laundry and all the usual stuff
Meals this past week:
Homemade pizza - 2 days
Egg salad sandwich and salad
Loaded nachos
Grilled Reuban and veggie sticks
Beef/squash/cheese skillet, garlic toast and salad
Fried thick-cut potatoes, jalapeno smoked sausage on bun, cukes & cherry toms

Just a nice quiet week and enjoying the weather.  I sure love the smell of fresh cut grass.  Seems once one cuts, others follow suit and the air smells so good.  While out walking I came across a yard full of white violets!  That was so neat to see - not sure I have ever seen white ones before.
Chucky the groundhog has made a few appearances this week - dang, that thing is fat!  You would think after hibernating all winter it would be skinny.
The whirlies, pods, twirlies - whatever you call them on the maple tree are out and stating to fall.  The squirrels do like to sit and eat the little bean in them.  But they are sure messy.
Sis is home.  YAY!!  Today she is 95.  What a gift!!!

There you have my week.  How was yours?  Did you find any deals?  Getting ready for spring and planting yet?  Enjoying the weather or are you still in the snowy areas?

I wish you all a lovely Easter.  I hope we all remember the gift and sacrifice that was given for US!  We are so loved.  May you get to spend time with loved ones or friends.
Wishing you all a super week ahead.  Stay safe and healthy.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.  For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.
John 3:16-17

Lord, we send our utmost thank You up for this wonderful gift that we have been given.  Eternal life of health and happiness and supreme joy with You.  We may lose loved ones on this earth, but we will be together again someday - what a beautiful thought.  Jesus suffered for us, so we can have that eternal life by believing and accepting.  I can think of no greater gift.
Please be with each of us and keep us in your healing and loving arms in this new week.  AMEN

  1. Happy Easter! So glad your sister is home! It was mid 80’s yesterday and in the upper 60’s today so cooler. You got GREAt deals on the ground beef and celery!!! Awesome!! I planted spinach, lettuce, green onions in my front yard, between my dwarf rose bushes. My rose bushes are in full bloom and enjoyed the rain we received last night! I am having baked chicken legs, spinach, peanut butter cookies, and cornbread. I may or may not have baked sweet potatoes or carrots.I also have ice cream if the cookies don’t finish my sweet tooth… lol. Have a wonderful time! Cindy in the South

    1. Thank you!
You have to love the weather being warmer. How neat that you have planted some things and keeping right by your roses, it is utilizing empty space. I can't wait to see roses blooming.
Your food sounds good. Heck, you can even make ice cream sandwiches with the cookies and ice cream!
      Have a lovely week

  2. Happy Easter! He has risen! Happy Birthday to your sister, 95 years she has seen so many things in her life. Sounds like you had an awesome week with your grocery finds. Our weather has been up and down, 80 yesterday today and tomorrow then back to rain. We haven't planted anything yet but getting the ground ready.
*We finally went to see my brother over the weekend of March 20th. He is doing so much better from the stroke he had. Some of his speech is a little garbled yet and he is still having physical therapy on his right arm but all in all he's doing so much better. He walks around the house pretty good but uses a cane when out and about.
*The best deal I found this week was ham for 67cent a lb. Having that for dinner with cheesy potatoes, asparagus, deviled eggs and chocolate pie for dessert. Have a wonderful time with family today!

    1. Happy Easter my sweet friend.
I know - I used to think about that with mom - but now with sis - so many changes in this world have happened in that time.
I haven't planted anything either - not much too early here.
So glad your brother is doing so much better. He will get it all back with time. That is wonderful he is walking so well.
.67/lb. for ham is a great deal. Lots of good eating for a little bit of money. I so much love cheesy potatoes. Oh heck, I love cheesy everything!
Thank you - hope you guys enjoy your day and week.

  3. Happy Easter/Spring. Temps hovering around 10C. Snow melt is starting. I've seen a gopher & geese. You can't fool a gopher or goose; they know it's spring. Gasoline costs ~$6/gal here in the land of gas & oil! But like my son used to say, I don't mind buying gas if I've got somewhere to go. I've been out & about all week so I'm looking forward to a few days home alone. There was food dropoffs at friends; a trip to the city a few hrs away with my neighbor who's having health issues; taxes done; My youngest granddaughter competed in the ringuette nationals in Ottawa & won gold!! So exciting. I was able to watch her games in youtube. I had a lovely celebratory meal at my neighbor's on Fri & yesterday I had guests for supper & cards. In the kitchen: roast chicken, rice pudding, wheat "salad", roast pork w/ bacon, roasted root veg, berry crisp, egg salad. Have a good week, Cheryl.

    1. Glad to hear the snow is starting to melt!
Nature always knows. I heard this week people are starting to see hummingbirds close to where I am. So after the cold nights the next couple days - I will put out the feeders.
Boy, you have been busy! I bet you look forward to some relaxation. Yay to your granddaughter - how cool.
All your food sounds so good. Sounds like a super week.
Get some rest and have a good week.

  4. That's wonderful news about your sister. What a great Easter gift! We had a storm sweep through last night. It took a tile off the corner of our roof (just by where the piece of soffit was taken off by the last storm). That corner gets a lot of wind. I have left a message for the builder who replaced it for us a couple of years ago and am going to ask if there is a way of making the fixing more secure.
On a happier note, the Easter Bunny visited and left some small chocolate eggs amongst the flowers in the pots by my front door.

    1. Thank you - yes, a wonderful gift for us all.
So sorry you had dome damage from a storm. That is always a worry. I hope you have no leaks until it can be fixed. Hoping he kind find a more permanent solution.
How wonderful you got a visit from the Easter bunny!!!!!
      Have a lovely week.

  5. Excellent devotional! Where would we be without the resurrected Messiah? Lost!!

Happy Birthday to your sister! Good news that she is doing better.

Wow to all the celery! I have never frozen it but several ladies have shown how to do it. We use a lot of celery and onions.

The sky is brightening a bit but no sun at this point. The weather will bounce around for a while before settling to warm temps. The Farmer planted a Meyer lemon tree and had to put it in the greenhouse because of the upcoming close to freezing temps. I am eager for it to bloom and smell the sweet flowers. I picked a lilac and daffodil bouquet yesterday.

We seldom have hummingbirds here but the Eastern Bluebird made an appearance this past week. Probably not the same one as last year but they sure are pretty. My 19 year old granddaughter has developed a keen interest in wild birds and has three birdfeeders in the yard. I found a book on Amazon about the wind birds in East Texas and that will be her birthday present.

Enjoy your day! See you Tuesday!

    1. Thank you.
I just chop and stick in a bag - nothing else. That will last me for ages.
Yes, protect that tree - a couple cold ones coming. I bet the lilac smell so good. I miss the big bush that was next door - I always got some. I keep a bird book and binoculars by the bedroom window (faces out back). I love watching them. I always have 2 hummy feeders and if I am late, I see them buzzing 'the spots'!
Thanks - have a great week.

  6. Our huge snow pile is still holding on. I laughed seeing next door neighbors hiding some plastic filled eggs for their massive egg hunt in the pile. Still a chilly few days but warming up later in the week. Happy Easter, small but nice group here for supper.

  7. Happy Easter, Cheryl. Sounds cold tonight and tomorrow for you, stay warm up there. It's chilly here this morning due to the rain we've had last night and today. Good deal on your gas, ours was a little higher at $3.69. That is so great about the celery! I love it when the thrift stores do that. I like to keep my celery in small freezer bags to pull out and add to recipes as needed. That was a fantastic deal on the ground beef! I would have bought that too. Happy Birthday to your sister today.

    1. It will be chilly - but warmer days ahead. We had rain yesterday as well.
I will pay that for gas - it is needed and well, we do our part. I keep the celery ready in the freezer for quick adds. I saw people look and walk past the beef - WHAT???? Not sure how one turns down a deal like that.
      Thank you.
      Have a fantastic week.

  8. Happy Easter! Yes, He is risen!
I went to church and it was lovely. The Easter Egg Hunt for this afternoon got rained out.
We have had rain, a few hours of steady light rain. So grateful, as things were very dry indeed. Yesterday everything looked sorta tan. This morning, even in the cloudy dimness, everything was *green*! Thank you, God!
Happy about your Sis, Cheryl. That's an Easter gift for sure. :)

Indeed - a great gift for all. We are so fortunate to have her.
      Have a blessed week.

  10. I hope everyone had a wonderful Resurrection Day. I was readmitted to hospital when I went for lab work last Monday and discharged Friday. So, I am still working on my healing process and hopefully hospital procedures done have me on the right path this time. It started with gall bladder removal and moved into complications. I’m excited this week to start planting cool season crops. I’m thinking if I just do a little (ten minutes)each day, it will be done as best I am able at this time by end of week. As a person alone with no family to be there, it’s harder but I am getting through. I am making a hospital go bag to keep in the car. God has blessed all of you who do have family and I am so grateful to my kind neighbors. Continued prayer for healing would be appreciated. Julie V

    1. Oh hon, I am so sorry you ended up back in the hospital. That is awful. I sure hope you are on the upward side of recovery now. You know you have prayers.
That would be so difficult to not have family around. I am glad you have good neighbors. That is a good idea to carry the to go bag.
Don't you overdo it - if you have to wait a week - wait. I am sure things will still do great. Take it easy and here's hoping you have a great week.

  11. Great deal on the ground beef.
I worked at getting things ready for Kris's visit and managed most of what I wanted done.
While here he did some techie work for me, and I made him up what I hope he finds a great care package containing leftover ham, some pork chops, and bacon wrapped chicken medallions. I also sent him home with some chutney's, homemade buns, some cherry loaf slices, some cookies, and some cake which was our dessert last night.
Now I am cooking up and preparing dried beans for the freezer, and will be trying to use up leftovers.

    God bless.

I am sure he will love the care package - goodness, who wouldn't. It sounds lovely.
Hope you have a fantastic week.
