Hello to all my lovely friends. Glad to have you here, and so happy to be up and moving this morning - God has given me another morning! Hope all are doing well.
Yesterday was a wet and gloomy day - much of the day. We did get a few shots of sunshine, but pretty cloudy. Today should be dry and cooler - in the upper 60's. I think it is about 56* right now.
So far my house has stayed in the lower 70's - even when I have had windows open. No heat as of yet!
If I feel chilly, I just put on something else - another layer.
I thought I would share a couple more ideas for using things we pretty much all have around the house, and in the pantry to make some yummy goodies. It is nice just getting a bit creative and using what we have. It sure can save a trip out and well, it does save dollars!
I had a sweet craving the other day - but didn't want to be too bad! I sliced a cold apple and topped with a little "Magic Shell" ice cream topping I had. The apples were cold, but it didn't seem to be setting quite right, so I stuck the plate of apples in the freezer for about 4-5 minutes and wahla - chocolate apples! It was a tasty snack - mostly healthy and a bit of sweet. You could even throw on a bit of salt.If you don't have Magic Shell - just use a bit of chocolate syrup - it may be a bit messier, but it will still be tasty! Use a fork!!!! Or you can just dip pieces!
Chocolate and apples are so tasty together!
The next time you bake cookies - like chocolate chip or M & M, or peanut butter, etc. make them in a pan and not in round cookie form! I do this often. Use a baking pan with sides, we used to always call the pans jellyroll pans. Place your batter and bake. You can cut cookies into shapes or as small or large as you wish. My family does this a lot on birthdays and decorates for a birthday cookie!
I like this idea - spread your batter, top with mini pretzels for each cookie you want - bake. Cut so each cookie has a pretzel on top. Sweet and salty - yum!Ok, now that I have mentioned jellyroll - that sounds good too!!! I haven't had one in years!
Mmmmmm - I have made similar recipes before - but this sounds so easy. I have topped chili with cornbread mix and baked before. This is things most everyone has hanging out in the kitchen - and will make a nice dinner for the family. Add a salad or a side - yum. Great way of stretching limited ingredients.
I am for sure trying this soon! No knead bread!!!! So easy and it sounds like it would be wonderful - it sure looks pretty. I have everything here to do this. It really doesn't get much easier for homemade bread!
Ok, just a little thinking outside the box again. Hope this maybe gives someone an idea - or saves a trip to the store. It is always smart to find new ways to use what we have.
I hope you all have a wonderful day, and that you are doing well.
SMILE and be cheerful.
My daily thankful: I am very thankful to have a home - a roof over my head. Warmth and safety. Many don't.

Hi Cheryl! Longtime reader here, but I haven’t posted in quite a while! Jelly roll brings back memories… Mom used to make that frequently when we lived on a farm. Soooo good! Have a wonderful day, and enjoy your kitties! My Grace passed about 6 years ago, but I hope to get another (or two!) after the holidays. I had triple negative breast cancer (diagnosed 3 months after I retired), but just celebrated 5 years cancer free, and my oncologist is calling me cured. What a blessing!
ReplyDeleteHi Peggy. Nice to have you here. FIRST - congrats on being 5 years cancer free! That is huge and just a blessing beyond blessings!
DeleteMom used to make jellyrolls too - and goodness, they were so good. It was one thing I always looked forward to.
Kitties are just the best and give to much joy and happiness. I only have one indoors - but 8 outside and they all are so sweet. I wish I could have them all inside!! LOL! I hope get another one or two. They make good companions.
Thank you! You have a good one as well.
We had a few days of low humidity in mid-October and it felt wonderful but the stickiness is back unfortunately (80% humidity past 2 days). Our temps are around 80 F. daytime and 70 F. night and I wish it would cool down but this is normal for us.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I went into the back corner of the yard to check in the azalea that I “rescued” a few weeks ago from an overgrowth of junk foliage. There was a big black snake so I moved to the other side of the yard to work! Today I checked the azalea (no snake) and there is lots of new growth and it is getting good sun. I’m pleased! I also did some endless trimming on the bougainvillea.
I have two bunnies living in my yard - Cottontail and Breezy (very original, HaHa). I love them. Barbara M.
Amazing that there is still so much humidity this late in the year.
DeleteOh heck no - I hate snakes - any kind! I would have moved very far away! Glad your azalea is growing and making new shoots.
Oh, bunnies - they are so sweet. I bet you are enjoying them.
Remember that black snakes are a gardener's friends. They eat voles and moles and rats and mice - things you really do not want around your house. I'm happy you did not kill the black snake. :)
DeleteSome folks say they chase away copperhead snakes, and those I do not want in/near my home.
MaryB
Oh I know they are good snakes, I just don't like ANY snakes. Glad she didn't kill it - but I would have moved far away from it too!!
DeleteAt least this snake was outside in the far corner of the yard. The very long black snake that was in my garage a couple of months ago disappeared so I “assume” it got out. The guy who cuts my grass said the same thing about the garage snake - at least I wouldn’t have mice or rats!
DeleteYIKES!
DeleteIt's been cool'ish here, down in to the low 60's overnight but warming up so nicely during the day. I think the highs have been reached the high 70's. I've been enjoying being outdoors so much.
ReplyDeleteMy neighbour came by the first day I arrived and brought a small package of brownies and half a banana loaf for me. She loves to bake, but I keep telling here I don't need that many sweets. :)
Glad to hear from you. Those are great temps - better than you had at home!
DeleteHow sweet of your neighbor and lovely that you got welcomed back so nicely.
Your daily gratitude is a wonderful addition to your posts. The sun is shining brightly and that adds to the cheerfulness of the day. A bit breezy but lovely, nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteThe recipes look good! The idea of putting cookie batter in a pan is brilliant. The pretzel adds just the right touch. I sliced an apple this morning for breakfast with some Cinnamon Graham Granola Butter from Costco. It is quite tasty and and added a spoonful of chocolate spread, which made it even better. The only rollup treat I ever made was pumpkin roll. I got that recipe at euchre club over fifty years ago and now both my girls make it.
Tempted to put the electric blanket on the bed today. The Farmer doesn't get as cold as I do, but it is nice to get into a warm bed.
I would imagine the leaf chasing days for the kitties are coming to a close, with most of the leaves down and gone. They sure are cute.
Enjoy your weekend!
Thanks - I find it sometimes helps us to be a little more grateful to write things down and see them in print.
DeleteI love cookie 'cakes'. They are so easy to make and can be cut into any size. Great for gatherings.
Your breakfast sounds good.
I still have my maple, that is just starting to loose leaves - so they have a while left. Golly they love playing in them.
It is beautiful today.
We had to turn the a/c on for a few minutes yesterday. The house was hot and very humid. I do not like using it in November!
ReplyDeleteI don't think of doing cookies in a jelly roll pan often, but I should. Thank you for the reminder.
AC - oh goodness. I don't want either on in November. Guess we are glad to have it though.
DeleteSure - it is such an easy way to make cookies.
Cheryl - just wanted to encourage you on the no knead bread. I have been making that exact recipe for my family for years. It is so little effort, so tasty, and it has become a staple in our home. Hope you try it and enjoy it as much as we do!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the recommendation! It just sounds so very simple - right up my alley!
DeleteI can't wait.
What a great idea to make bar cookies out of any cookie recipe. I am definitely going to give that a try.
ReplyDeleteCool to cold here and more cloudy, dark days than sunny ones. Winter is slowly arriving here on the old homestead.
God bless.
It really makes making cookies so simple. I have been doing this a lot for years.
DeleteOh I am so sorry that winter is arriving! Stay warm.
I have been making the bread recipe for many years and we love it. I have added rosemary to the batter and parmesan cheese on top at the end of the baking. You could do lots of different things with it. This morning it is 41 degrees with a high of 49 degrees F but we should get some sun. Have fun with the kitties today! Darcy
ReplyDeleteThanks for the ideas. I love hearing folks that use the recipes. I always love new ideas.
DeleteIt is chilly and damp here this morning. Thanks - I always have a fun time with them!
Bar cookies and no knead bread are staples in our home. Both are so much simpler and delicious. The mini pretzel idea sounds good, will be trying that soon. The weather here has been warm in the 70's. Today's forecast is rain which is really needed. Enjoy your day and have a wonderful weekend. Angela
ReplyDeleteGood to hear. I think the bar cookies are just so darn easy and I can't wait to make the bread. It is so easy.
DeleteIt is chilly and damp here this morning. Hope you get some needed rain! Thanks and you as well.
