Hello to all of you. Thank you for stopping by and hoping you are all well and safe.
It is 62* outside early this morning and going into the 70's. Looks to be the best day of the week - but not going to sneeze at any of them. We are supposed to get rain tomorrow, which we truly do need. I hope all of you out west are missing the crazy floods that are happening. So very sad.
I tend to call this the season of G's! Giving, gratitude, Grateful, Goodness, God
Whether we provide a meal for someone, (or many), send an anonymous gift, give a toy or coat for a child, smile more often, give a helping hand, or just give a kind and thoughtful word to a stranger - may we all DO a bit more.
This can be a very bad time of the year for many. Many are depressed and sad this time of the year - whether from life happenings or from S.A.D. disorder. Whatever reason - maybe just a kind word or a smile might help.
Others are in their element this season. Cooking, baking, gifting, decorating, partying, etc.
I truly hope that we can all have a good season and that we can all OPEN our hearts in some way to help another - it doesn't have to be with money or cost a thing.
Lift others up! It will lift you as well. Keep busy whether it is tidying your home or volunteering or visiting or socializing or just being a good neighbor.
Be grateful and show gratitude for all the things that happen daily - big or small. A home, food, a place to lay your head, a life well lived, the giggle of a child, memories, pictures, snuggles, sunshine, the colors of fall (or spring), our senses, health, each day, a breeze, a job.....................
I wish you all a wonderful week and day.
Be what you want to see!!!!!!!
SMILE
My daily thankful: I am so thankful for each person that comes and visits here, and for all the people I now call friends - even though we have never met.

Very thankful for you also, Cheryl! We can all spare and share a smile..they are FREE!
ReplyDeleteThank you mam! Yes indeed, it is something that doesn't cost one red cent! But they sure do seem like a million when you get one.
DeleteThis is a complicated time of year - but it is working up to a Most Important Holiday (at least in my opinion): Thanksgiving. What a pity that we need to set aside a special day - it ought to be every day! Today I am grateful for a good night of sleep, it was wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI found a gift for a most difficult-to-buy-for person, and I hope she'll like it. I am grateful for that, it's always a worry.
The tangle with my credit card seems to have worked itself out. The fraudulent charge is gone. :) That was scary. My credit card company was very helpful and I called yesterday to thank them and tell them how much I appreciated their assistance. The fellow I spoke with seemed amazed that someone would call and say "thank you".
The big job on my agenda is leaf removal - I think it needs to be done every single day for a while. The joy of living in the woods. :)
Thanks for all you do, Cheryl. You're one of the Lord's messengers, reminding me of things that matter.
MaryB
W should be thankful ever single day - there is always something to be thankful for.
DeleteNeat that you found a special gift for your person.
Oh how great you got the mess all straightened out - and how sweet to take the time to call and thank them. I bet they do not hear that often,
Leaves, I rake every night and I have just 2 trees (big) - can't imagine living in the woods!
What kind words - thank you.
The holidays are sad for me with no close family and my mom died in November. I try to be kind to people I meet randomly. I will try to do more this year.
ReplyDeleteLast year I didn’t put up my big tree because of the shower work in the adjacent bathroom. But I will put it up this year. Yesterday I moved the bins (in the garage) to where they are accessible and cleaned them off. The tree is at least 25-years old (Kmart) and is not pre-lit and is a pain to string lights but when done I love it.
I’ve been an election nerd since I was a child and will watch tonight. I expect to be disappointed here in Florida but you never know. There is a property tax amendment (poorly written IMO) on the statewide ballot. It would save me a big chunk of money initially but I voted no and I think it will fail (requires 60%). Barbara M.
I can understand that totally. It can be sad for many. Several of our gals have lost spouses around the holidays as well. It is not easy ever, but some things just make it sad.
DeleteGlad you will put the tree up - I think the pretty lights do help. They do with me. There is just something about Christmas lights. I decorate a little - not a lot - but do love lights.
I did my duty this morning and voted - in and out in 5 minutes. I doubt I watch - it won't change the outcome. It would just make me nervous close to bedtime! Enjoy
IMHO, Thanksgiving should be year round. And giving does not need to be money or goods. A smile, a small helping gesture such as opening a door, a promise of prayer for a situation, are all giving. Encouragement is one of the best gifts we can give anyone, including ourselves. 1 Thessalonians 5:11: "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing." It's funny the things you remember from years past. I worked at Shell Oil on Michigan Road back in the mid-60's, and one of the older men who worked in my office, said he would rather have a bologna sandwich for Thanksgiving dinner than all the fuss. We are doing a simplified meal this year. I am especially grateful for the time you put into your blog posts and gathering your readers together.
ReplyDeleteAMEN! On all counts!!
DeleteYes, we should be celebrating our thankfulness every day and we should be helpful in some way everyday!
I agree with the man, it has nothing to do with meal we eat. I am thankful to have food. I am thankful for another day!
Thank you dear - I appreciate the kindness. Such a good group.
I am doing leaf removal today, I try to do some every other day as like Mary B said it goes with living in a woods. The way my home and garage are placed makes the parking area a funnel for fallen and blown leaves. I have already hauled 8 large 10x12 tarp loads into the chicken pen. I also added water to my ornamental pond (for the wildlife) and removed hoses and fittings from the spigots. I still have begonias and impatiens blooming in pots but I think their time will end soon as we are going down into the 30's overnight soon.
ReplyDeleteI love Thanksgiving, I think because of the memories of my whole family being together as a child. I think as a holiday it should stand on it's own, no Christmas decorations just Thanksgiving stuff.
Each aunt and family had their specialty dishes and I still associate certain foods with people. Lovely memories and I even have some of the recipes, some of the foods have fallen out of favor but I still love them.

Leaves can be a pain - I do some every evening. I pile for a day or two and the cats have a ball playing in them.
DeleteIt sure has been lovely to have the colorful and blooming plants - yes, this weekend it may get cold enough.
We always had all the family together, and I always got to be at mom & daddies. When I get with nieces' family - we still all go around the room and tell the things we are thankful for. I love that.
Those memories are priceless. I still make some of mom's special dishes as well.
Your thoughts on November are inspiring. Jean
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope the month is good to you!
DeleteWhat a coincidence that you should mention children's coats. I was having a sort out today and I found two lovely coats that my son wore when he was younger. I had washed them earlier this year, meaning to donate them, but had then forgotten all about them. I was going to donate them to a charity shop, but the prices they charge might still be too high for someone in need. I suddenly thought about the Salvation Army, so I looked up if they have a place for donations locally and found that they do operate a couple of collection boxes, so I know where they will be going now.
ReplyDeleteWonderful - I do believe there are times that a post just happens for the right reasons. Someone needs to hear it, or it reminds someone of something, or maybe we learn something.
DeleteWhen I went to our school luncheon a couple weeks ago - I took some coats to donate. I still had a couple warm ones like new that were Glens and I figured some bigger young man would love them. We always have someone collecting things for various local charities. Glad you got a reminder today!
This is a lovely post, Cheryl. I think you are correct about giving year round.
ReplyDeleteI think sometimes people think random acts of kindness (which is also a gift) have to be some grand gestures, but sometimes it is as simple as holding a door for someone who is struggling with it, or carrying a package to a car for a mom struggling to corral a few tots.
Thank you mam.
DeleteIndeed. It can be simple, yet mean much. I find those simple little gestures make me smile most of the day. I got to talking to a man on my errands today - and we talked for several minutes. He was grumpy looking to start and was laughing out loud when we were done. He thanked me for making him realize silly things can be funny!!! I helped him, and that comment helped me!
Hi Cheryl :) I love this reminder to serve and be kind and giving. I have noticed in years past, that the cooler weather, combined with the buzz of the holidays, just brings about joy that we don't seem to possess any other time of the year. We should work on that! :) Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteYes we should work on that! It should happen all the time. I try, I really do.
DeleteI always like to remind us all that this can be a tough time for many - and our kindness can mean a lot.
What a lovely post, Cheryl. I love that-the season of G's Giving, gratitude, Grateful, Goodness, God. Have a beautiful day. Darcy
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. We should make every day and month a season for those things!
