Happy Sunday to all. Hope this finds you all well and safe.
August - means hot days. We have that - but I sure find it better than below freezing and snow! I could do without that all together.
Each morning we get up to very heavy dew and it really doesn't dry out. I went out one afternoon, thinking to cut at least the front, and it was 3:30PM and the grass was still wet! Crazy.
It looks to be a hot one again all this coming week. Hope you are all finding ways to stay cool.
I was talking to Laurie in OR and she said they are looking at triple digits this weekend - heck 90 doesn't sound so bad! Last week Hilogene said she was having triple digits in AZ as well. Oh gosh, so glad all that isn't here. Stay safe.
Boy last night and early this morning the moon was sure bright and full. I thought this was a pretty picture. You can tell it is getting closer to fall, as there are spider webs everywhere! No matter where you try to walk outside, it seems you run into a web, around here.
My frugal week:
- I got to walk a couple mornings, early in the week. Talked a while with the guy 2 doors down (chicken guy). Probably the most we have talked ever. Asked about him selling eggs, and he said he really never thought about being "egg man"! He said maybe we could barter. He gave me 4 - to just try. I have tomatoes - so we may do that as a barter. Regardless, I found a really nice young man (an old soul) to talk with!
- I got to air the house a day or so, and most mornings I turn off AC and air the house
- I had to change a lightbulb this week!! I can't remember the last time I did that. I hardly ever use the lights, and bulbs last forever now (I do have a nice stash of them)
- I washed inside windows, doors and mirrors
- I finally finished my gr.gr. nephew's t-shirt blanket - delivered it yesterday (he wasn't home). Got orders for 2 more - yikes!
- Made hummingbird nectar
- Ran to Ollies to look for gift for my other gr.gr. nephew - he had a 3rd birthday party yesterday. It was nice to see everyone. Those kiddos sure had a good time!
- Went to the feed store while out and used my $15 discount for August to stock up a little. Between feed store and Ollies there is an old K-Mart building. They are tearing it down, and word has it they are building a Wa-Wa. I have heard about them - just surprised to see one coming to this area.
- Also ran in Kroger - (all within the same block) - got 10 plums in clearance for $1.50. Got a cantaloupe as well - 2.88 (tasty). Needed some more fruit
- Made a gallon of blackberry tea. Used my rich assortment of flavored tea bags I have. Nice to mix it up now and then.
- Meals at home
- Dusting and cleaning, and just doing all the usual
- Have picked zucchini, a couple tomatoes, lots of cherry toms, and peppers. The tomatoes are starting to really blush up - will have lots soon!
- Laundry in cold, and used dehumidifier water - hung to dry
Meals this past week: (simple)
Stir fry veggies and a pork chop
Grilled cheese/smash burger combo and some fresh veggies
Salad and cheese/summer sausage and crackers
Cheesy rice with lots of veggies & meatballs added
Beef bologna/tomato sandwich (had to have my summer fav) and small salad
Egg/sausage sandwich and side salad
Dinner at nieces - grill night & fixins!
Seems like lots of little things got done, but the big thing that looked like I accomplished something was the blankie being done.
Just trying to stay in and stay cool. I do go out a few times a day - but not for long. Just trying to use what I have and only supplement small things.
How has your week been? How are those gardens doing? I hope you are all enjoying some fresh goodies of the summer. Did you find any deals this week?
Give us a shout out and say hello!
I hope you all have a lovely week ahead, and that all are safe and healthy. Prayers for all in need of healing.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and for evermore! From the rising of the sun to its setting the name of the Lord is to be praised!
Psalms 113:2-3
Amen - we sing praises for all the Lord gives us each and every day. Every small and tiny thing to the largest, we are blessed. Help us to pay attention to all things, and know they are gifts from You. Thank You for all blessings great and small. May we all continue to notice and be aware of all the treasures we are given to experience. AMEN
I prefer warmer weather much more than cold, snow and ice for sure, but the humidity does get rough at this time of year. That would be so great to barter tomatoes for eggs with your neighbor! Blackberry tea (and lemonade) is so good! Strawberry lemonade is good too. This is the perfect time of year for such refreshing drinks too! 🥤
ReplyDeleteYes, the humidity is just energy sucking. You can go out for no time, and feel drained and just icky! I like fall - but we all know what follows!
DeleteI thought it might be a good trade. He doesn't have a garden - so we can trade. I also have sweet peppers, I think I will take him some this week.
I love a refreshing lightly flavored drink - tea and lemonade are both great flavored.
Have a super week.
Sometimes it seems like I am getting nowhere... waiting for other people. Need repairs, hard to get repairmen to show up. :( But it is summer, I can wait, I have garden things to do! :)
ReplyDeleteAn old friend has died, someone who, when kids were little, was a close friend, then we drifted apart. Thank heaven it was a quick exit, not some long drawn-out horror story. Funeral later, as her grandkid is stationed overseas.
Fresh beans from my vines! OMGoodness, I'd forgotten how good those are. :) Yes, that is a blessing for sure.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
MaryB
Life seems that way sometimes. Glad you have other things to keep you busy, until!
DeleteSorry for the loss of your friend. It seems like lately, everyday there is a mention of another classmate that has passed. It is really sad.
Oh fresh beans. I am making some home canned beans today - that my brother canned last year. I love green beans.
ENJOY!
Have a beautiful week.
Excellent devotional! We are indeed abundantly blessed.
ReplyDeleteKids' birthday parties are always fun. They get so excited about their special day.
Too bad we can't bottle some of this heat to pull out on the cold days of winter. This time of year folks have just about had it with the high temps and humidity. At least we don't have the triple digits like some folks. When Alana was here from Texas, she said it was cooler here.
That's great about bartering for eggs with your neighbor. Fresh is always best.
The Farmer picked one of our cantaloupes and we had it yesterday. Yummy! More out there along with watermelons. Cucumbers seem to be done for the season.
Oh the kids had a ball, and I think Miles favorite toy, was a little truck. Nothing big and fancy, a simple truck. He played with that all the time I was there.
DeleteYep, it sure would be nice to 'can' the heat as well as food!
Fresh picked cantaloupe! YUM. Love you have fresh fruit. Things come and go - all so good.
Have a lovely week.
I hit up the 127 yard sale and found some great deals. Best deals were $5.75 for 18 shirts/pants, 1 coat, and 3 pairs of shoes for the kids. $4 for two zipper binders (one still brand new with tags) which is on my oldest’s school list, and they are so expensive ($20+) for anything not tiny cheap plastic that I know he'll have broken in no time so I had held off on buying, and a large tub of Thomas the Train Duplo Legos and tracks for $5.
ReplyDeleteI also spent $6 for 4 on the spot homemade donuts at an Amish stand and they were the best donuts ever.
I picked plenty of tomatoes and one butternut squash.
What great deals you got at the sales. 5.75 was wonderful for all of that!
DeleteSome days you have to splurge a little - glad it was enjoyed.
Yay on the tomatoes and the squash. Enjoy those.
Have a great week.
Good morning, DH does the barter thing with the tomatoes, we receive eggs. Our cucumbers did not do well nor did the tomatoes he planted upside down. The volunteer cherry tomatoes are doing good ;). We had the Birthday dinner on Friday, it was good to see all the family. Yes today will be 108 and tomorrow too then hopefully it will be Fall, HA HA
ReplyDeleteWell cool. So I guess tomatoes for eggs is a good deal. Sorry about the cukes. I quit trying to grow them - I haven't had luck in years. I tried the upside down plants once. Sounds good in theory - but yep, not a great idea IMO either.
DeleteThose birthday dinners are fun.
Oh snap! 108? Nope, don't want that - no wonder you are ready for winter!! I sure hope you cool down soon!
Have wonderful week and stay in!
A very good week, and more work to keep you busy with the blankets. :) Not that you aren't already busy.
ReplyDeleteIt was a good week. Not sure how I feel about the blanket work! They get harder to do each time. It just kills my back.
DeleteHave a good week.
Hi, Cheryl. I'm coming to you today from Mile 0 of the Alaska Hwy. I'm here to celebrate my friend's 50th BD, watch chuckwagon races, & meet up with some relatives. My cousin took me to the homestead & grave of my maternal gr grandfather. There was an inch of rain over a few days last week. Some kale was processed & I see the deer have eaten the rest. The deer bother the garden some years & not others. Beans should be ready when I get home. The week was spent preparing for the trip. There were some temps in the 90s (F) last week but I try not to complain. It will be winter soon enough. I've always maintained that it's easier to warm up in the winter than cool off in the summer. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteWow, way cool! What a neat place to be. Sounds like a lot of fun to be had. Oh neat on visiting the homestead. I came across some pics this morning on my gr. grandparents graves. A couple pictures of them and those stones are all I have. How neat to visit the homestead.
DeleteThose critters can sure do damage on the gardens. Hope you get lots of beans. I know it is hot, but I will bare it, I just don't want to think about winter.
Have a great week.
It sounds like you had a nice week.
ReplyDeleteBartering tomatoes or peppers would be a good deal for fresh eggs. I would be lost without our chicken lady. Free range eggs are SO much better.
It's hot, humid and dry here. I usually can sit out and read for a few hours but I only made it 30 minutes before I had to get water and cool off before going back out. We haven't had but one short rain in a few weeks. I'm ready for fall and winter.
Have a great week!!
His eggs were really good - did taste different than store bought.
DeleteDang we have had some rain over the past week. Sorry you didn't get any of it. Don't overdo it in the heat.
Have a super week.
I am just working, busy time of the year, and trying to stay cool.
ReplyDeleteI don’t have my air on while I am at work so I do save on electricity that way. I attempted to keep the air on 79 but have backed off to 77 bc it is so muggy here. I made bbq chicken with homemade potato salad and homemade coleslaw and ate that this weekend. Boiled shrimp
With a mustard salad with greens from my plants, and a homemade pickle ranch dressing is another meal and ai have plenty of frozen peas and vegetables, and canned stuff for meals this weekend. I try to walk 30 minutes a day just before it gets dark. It is more like a slow shuffle but it still counts as moving…..lol. Cindy in the South
76/77 is where mine stays too. It feels plenty cool inside to me.
DeleteYour homemade goodies all sound yummy. It is amazing what we can do with what we have on hand.
Moving is moving - glad you are able to get out with the heat.
Have a great week
Hi Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteWell, Phoenix is having a cold snap, high today only 106 ;). When I read through your weather updates, it seems so crazy that you have dew and then heat, must drive you mad trying to get things mowed…when we lived in Portland Oregon, figuring when to mow wet grass became an art form!
I have a dear friend coming to stay with me for a week…I am a believer that staying three nights is the outside limit but didn’t enforce that on her ;). I hope all goes well. But having company does indeed create a tsunami of cleaning projects! It will be wonderful to see her but I bet I need a vacation afterwards.
Enjoy the week, and thank you for the prayer, it was wonderful. Hilogene in Az
Oh dang that is just too hot. Yes, it is the humidity that drives me nits. I can do the heat better than the humidity. It is like breathing water.
DeleteHow fun. You and your friend have a great time. Catch up, eat the food and do things! Yes, company always causes lots of extra cleaning - then it is done!!!
Have fun and have a super week.
Hi Cheryl, we live in SW WA, temp is 99 today, so we took advantage of the heat and cleaned the carpets. Got a jump on fall cleaning. We are having a mini heatwave till Wed., then it will cool off to 70's with a chance of rain. Have a blessed week.
ReplyDeleteHi there. Good way to get some work done inside while the temps are high. 70's and rain sounds nice. Wee got that for a bit last weekend, then back up it went.
DeleteStay cool and have a good week.
I have been working inside most days. Trying to slow down and listen to what my body needs. Sometimes that works, but most times not.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Staying in helps keep you cool. Listening to your body is smart. We all need to slow down more.
DeleteHave a wonderful week.
Home raised eggs are so tasty. A good trade for tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteI got my first tomatoes of the season this week - 2 of them!
I managed to get some more varnish on the wood of the garage, did some picture hanging indoors and then, because I got the filler out for some holes where pictures had been moved, filled some cracks too. I also rescued a favourite t-shirt with embroidery. Indelible ink and pale yellow do not make a good combination!
YAY - on the tomatoes. Mine are finally starting to ripen too! They taste so good.
DeleteGood indoor work there. Nice to be able to move things around and fix things. Smart on saving the t-shirt, embroidery and patches can really save things.
Have a lovely week.
I hope you can continue with the bartering with your neighbor for eggs. I am finding spider webs, too.
ReplyDeleteWe have been eating lots of whatever our garden is providing right now. We are eating tomato sandwiches, freezing tomatoes for sauce and soup this winter, roasted cherry tomatoes for pasta, green beans cooked in bacon grease, cucumber salad, pico de gallo with our tomatoes and jalapenos, kale salads, and adding Swiss chard to our soups. We have been eating down our storage since prices have hiked up and now, we are spending a little bit each week to build them back up again. A couple weeks ago I bought a whole flat of petite diced canned tomatoed from Aldi and this week I bought a few cans of beans.
I've been taking my walks in the early morning to avoid the heat later in the day. Otherwise, we are going outside only briefly. During the day we keep the AC at 76 and at night we turn it down to 74.
Thanks - I hope to. Oh those spider webs get me every time!
DeleteGood for you on eating the 'grow'ceries. Love all the home grown goodies. Everything you mentioned sounds so good and refreshing. I love sautéed green beans.
Wise to slowly be adding things back in bit by bit. That is what we all should be doing. Going to be doing a post about that this week!
Morning walks are so nice and they seem to be quiet except for nature.
Have a nice week.
egg man next door. GOLD!!!! You hit the jackpot :-)
ReplyDeleteCan't beat it! He is a nice family guy too. His girls love the chickens and treat them like babies!
DeleteHave a great week
I am going to pick more tomatoes today, so another big bag for the freezer.
ReplyDeleteYAY - they will sure make some good sauce later on!!!!
DeleteHave a good week
Darn. I missed the moon. Maybe next time. Happy New Week.
ReplyDeleteIt has been full and pretty for several days!
DeleteHave a great week
I was just wondering if anyone else is having issues with "Follow.it?". I haven't been able to read any of my blogs this week since Saturday! I got lucky and this one opened up, but sheesh, what a pain. I get error messages from follow.it. IS there some other way to read my favorite blogs?
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Sorry you are having problems. I generally just check the blogs on my blog roll (right side) and then if there are others I see on other blogs I click on them. I don't use the 'follow' button. Maybe just type in the name of the blog you wish to read in Google search? Hope someone offers some help!
