Weekly Wrap-Up 11/3

Happy November to all.  This year is almost gone!  Hard to believe.  So much yet to do and so much already done.  We had a mixed bag of weather this past week.  Warm, chilly, one day of decent rain, and wind and more wind.
There suddenly became pretty colors with the leaves.  The sugar maples and the burning bushes are my favorites.  Some trees are void of leaves now after all the wind we had.  Some still looking beautiful.  Amazingly I still see green too!
It looks like this next week will be mainly in the 60's(F) - that sounds fine to me.
Time change (ugh) - didn't see any extra sleep here!  Kitties woke me as usual for breakfast - which according to the clock was an hour earlier!!  Licorice was waiting at daylight for his food outdoors, again an hour earlier to the clock.  Such is life!
This last week seemed busy and, on the go, - but I don't feel I accomplished a lot at home.  Maybe I did, it just seemed not to me.

My fugal week:
  • I rearranged my living room, as much as I could on Sunday.  It has been the same for 22 years!!  Not a lot I can do - but I moved some things, so I have more spots to read or watch TV with my feet up!  Nice change.
  • Went out to lunch with my sister - her treat!  Had a fun time
  • Went to lunch with my grade school friends.  That was fun and we had about 28 show up!
  • Got to air the house a lot
  • While out - I got monthly gas fill-up with my discount from Kroger.  Saved .40 gallon.  I also got about 2 gallons for home - just to have over the winter in case myself or someone needs it. Paid 2.79/gal.
  • Stopped at thrift store as well.  I found a long gray sweater wrap.  I also got a Christmas sweater and sweatshirt - both are brand new
  • I went through the freezers again, and realized I am totally set for all the upcoming holidays - through Easter - for meat.  I also have all I need for any get togethers and enough meat and frozen veggies for myself for a long, long while.  I eat with family on the holidays, but like having my own goodies here to munch on.
  • I reorganized and cleaned the deep pantry as well.  Dusted the cans and jars - and emptied some crates and reorganized.  Got all my basket 'stuffers' together for the holidays - more to get.
  • Other than 2 days out - cooked from home and used up all leftovers, made a batch of biscuits as well.
Monday was the day sis and I went out.  Mind you she is 93 and still going.  Well, Thursday she fell and fractured her pelvis and a bone near her spine.  She is now in hospital.  Thursday and Friday were days of tests, x-rays and shear torture for her.  I went yesterday to see her.  It was her first therapy (can't do surgery due to age).  Boy she hurts!  Poor thing.  We had a really long visit, and I stayed while she had therapy and then lunch.  She seemed in better spirits when I left - she just needs lots of encouragement.  Her kids and us will make sure she gets that!  Please say a little prayer for her, if you will.  She has a long painful recovery ahead.

Meals this past week:
Tuna/noodle/pea casserole (leftover) and tomatoes
Diner w/sis - had Rueban and fries
Mexican w/friends - enchiladas and beans and rice
Meatloaf burger (freezer) and salad
Pork chop, asparagus and toms
Red beans & rice, leftover asparagus and biscuit
Bean/rice/cheese burrito and salad
SNACKS: warm biscuit, fruit, tomatoes, small salad, pickles

So there you have it - I seemed to have kept busy.  Not sure how much accomplished, but I kept busy!
How was your week?  What did you get done and accomplished?  Did you do any canning or freezing of goods?  Any good deals at the stores?  Crafting?
Love hearing from you all.
I want to thank Laurie, Cookie and Cindy again for the thoughtful cards this week.

May your week ahead be safe and healthy.  I hope all that have been involved in weather events are getting a little normalcy back in their lives.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

  1. I won a $15 Wendy's gift card from a baby shower game. There was a lot of food leftover so we were told to take as much as we wanted, so I took some barbecue chicken home and had free dinner from that.

Walmart had a lot of freezer clearance items. I picked up a couple of $3 Digiornos, and a bunch of $1 boxes of random things - corn dogs, plant based sausage and pancake on a stick (surprisingly good, I'm allergic to red meat), different single serve frozen meals of more expensive brands.

My youngest wore a Spiderman costume for Halloween that was a hand me down from a cousin and my oldest wore things he already had.

The library had craft and treat night, Halloween tote bags that you can color and gave out treats and a free book so I took the kids to that. Also checked out some books and DVDs to watch.

Ordered some Columbia waterproof hiking boots cheap on Woot. I don't like ordering shoes online, but I know Columbia tends to run a little small and decided for the price I would try as they had one half a size up from my usual. They fit thankfully and I needed a pair of waterproof ones. My other hiking boots are good but definitely not waterproof and a lot of hiking trails we go on you have to cross water. Will also be good for in the snow.

I've got it in my head to try and make a t-shirt rug. Don't know how that'll go as I'm not good at crafting, but I've got a bag full of clothes to get rid of and I'm going to try it.

    1. Sounds like a great week for you girly! Love it. Nice on the gift card and free food. What good deals at WM. I bet the kiddos had a blast - and fun free night. I always made my costumes from things at home too.
Glad the boots were right for you. I need to get some new ones this year. Last year I used bread bags inside mine! LOL - yep, the got a little leak and that worked - just like the old days.
Oh that would be fun to make - hope you get a rug made. It shouldn't be that hard.
      Have a wonderful week.

  2. Hi Cheryl, It sounds like you had a very productive week. I am so sorry to hear of your sister's fall. A broken pelvis is a very painful recovery since there isn't much other than therapy they can do anyway. I am glad you two were able to get together for a meal and fellowship before this happened. I pray that she will recover well. Frances Moseley

    1. Thank you - she sure is hurting. They told her each therapy session would make it easier and it should be much less pain in a week or so - not sure I believe that - but she did! She will have to do rehab for sure. I appreciate the prayers.
      Have a blessed week.

  3. Oh I am so sorry about your sis ending up in the hospital! I will pray for speedy and complete healing for her! So glad she has you and others to help cheer her during this difficult time!
My week was nothing super exciting—Hugh sometimes that is good, as I don’t want excitement such as your poor sister is going through right now! We had our Fall Break, so had a weekend away which spas nice. We did it in a very frugal way—renting a state park cabin, taking all our own food, and mainly hiked for entertainment! Does get much more frugal than that! I have pictures and more on my blog here: https://jesuscallsmefriend.blogspot.com/2024/11/pennies-from-heaven.html. Looking forward to reading what others are up to!

Yes, sometimes boring and dull and quiet are better than alternatives. The cabin and little trip sounds like something I would love. Nice. I will check out the pictures on a bit!
      Have a super week.

  4. Best wishes for your sister's healing, Cheryl. I hear you about the time change. I was awake at 4:30 this morning. The garden carrots were bagged & I had a glass of delicious carrot juice. Cleaning: under kitchen appliances, floors & the inside of the car before real cold weather sets in. One tire on the lawn tractor needed inflating each time it was used this summer. Well, I finally got it repaired & replaced just in time for winter storage. I mounted the star lights on the deck & set out the twig lights B4 the ground freezes, ready to light up the night come Dec. I made Hallowe'en cookies for the neighbor little, the one & only trick-or-treater. Winter tires were put on. Exercise: chair yoga & walk x 5 mi. In the kitchen: coleslaw, squash soup, peanut noodles. Today I'm off to a Christmas craft fair with friends. Have a good week, Cheryl.

Yes, our body clocks and those of our pets, don't change. Rise and shine!!
I bet that juice was good. Early mornings are good for a lot of things I guess. I had a pot of chili made by 9AM!
Glad you got the tire fixed - will be ready for next spring. Oh, I bet that will be so pretty with the lights. Subtle and lovely.
I bet your little neighbor loved the cookies.
ENJOY the craft fair - I look forward to those.
      Have a great week.

  5. Cheryl, I'm sorry to hear of your sister's fall. Praying for her complete healing. Yea, DST, ha. The cats were not happy, breakfast wasn't on time. Butch has been hunting for a few days this week. He just went out again a little bit ago. I made vegetable broth and canned it up. I cleaned out the freezers. I have been working some more on my afghan it's coming along. It's been cold and raining here a lot so I've pretty much been inside. And you are Welcome!!!

Well, mine got theirs on time, they wouldn't let me sleep! Hunting season already - gosh fall/winter is here. YAY on making the broth! That will sure come in handy and be tasty.
This week I need on cleaning out stuff to can too.
I've seen it is much colder there. Stay warm and enjoy your indoor time.
      Have a super week.

  6. Oh your poor sister! I do hope that the therapy helps with healing and that her pain eases soon.
We didn't have any trick or treaters this year. Just as well, as I hadn't stocked up on sweets. I did last year, but none came and we don't really eat them. Such a waste, so I decided not to do that again.
I made a couple of birthday cards. I hadn't made any for ages and I had forgotten how much I enjoy it. My husband made our Christmas cake and I started thinking about things to put into the small hampers we give as gifts to friends.
A trip to see a consultant dermatologist revealed that an unusual spot on my face is cancerous, as I suspected. I have already received an appointment to have it removed in February. I had waited 11 months for the consultation, so am very grateful that I now know when it will actually be dealt with.

    1. Thanks - yes, I hope the therapy works too.
No trick or treaters here either - of course I didn't turn on my light.
How fun on making the cards. Yum on the Christmas cake. Yes mam, it is that time of the year to think all things holiday!
So sorry you have to have that surgery - here is praying that it all turns out well.
      Have a fantastic week.

  7. Excellent devotional! The Father has made everything for its purpose, even the bad guys. Nothing is left to chance or coincidence, or a whim on our part.

So sorry to hear about your sister's fall. I know how much I hurt when I broke two ribs, let alone the pelvis and the bone near the spine. I pray that she heals quickly and completely! Sounds like she has an excellent support system.

You had some fun outings! Overall your week sounds very good.

Moving furniture around, even just a little, makes a room seem fresh and new. Sorting out, culling and reorganizing makes a big difference in how we can actually find things and know what is in pantries/cupboards, and closets. We have been loading up stuff to take to charity and actually have some breathing space now.

DST is not my favorite, as is the opinion of most folks.

Doing laundry, going to sort out garden supplies and put them in appropriate totes (labeled!) and do some other outdoor chores. The weather looks to be good for a few days so I will take advantage of that.

    1. Yes, there is a reason for all things - even the bad. I think we are to learn from them.
Thanks, I feel so bad for her. I just hope she heals well, and gets relief from the pain.
It does feel nice moving things around - it hadn't ever been done - so refreshing to me. All little changes can make a big difference.
I hope the weather stays nice - it sure is good on the electric bills!
      Have a super week.

    1. Oh, I hear you, and I have little real damage. But there is a huge pile of tree debris in my yard and every day I go out there and work on it a bit. The county is planning to remove some of this debris, and there are enormous piles by the roads, but there are more important things to do than that, and everyone is pretty busy.

Driving places is very distressing, seeing the severe damage some have suffered. Yesterday a woman I know was grumbling about "all those rescue sites and people all over the place, it's over, why don't they go home?" I was astonished, as it is *not* all over and won't be for many months, if ever for some folks. The rescue folks are doing *amazing* work and I am so grateful for them. They've come from everywhere: Canada, Georgia, Missouri, South Carolina - it's quite wonderful to see how God works in human hearts!

Cheryl, I hope your sister will recover well, and that her pain will abate soon. Prayers.

    2. Lana - no nothing will be the same - here is to hoping someday maybe better. My heart goes out to you and all those having endured so much.
Can you tell us what kind of damage you had - did you lose your home or have severe damage? Flooding?
      I cannot imagine. Huge hugs.
Try to have a good week friend.

    3. Mary, I am sure just seeing all that debris doesn't help the spirit. It would just break my heart to see all that damage in person - I cry when I see it on TV.
My goodness, that lady sounds ungrateful. So many people have given of their private time and money to help others. Now if they were all looky loo's I could see it - but those folks are helping in so many ways. You are right, as is Lana, some folks will never be back to the same or have what they lost ever again. You can't get back family and friends. It is all so sad.
      Have a blessed week dear.

  12. My prayers join with yours for your sister, Cheryl. It's gratifying to know that she has good people around her, most especially the caregivers.
It's been a very busy week here. The work on the chimney repair continued and will start again tomorrow. We had several days of temps in the 80s and then whoosh -- back down to 55. We had hard freeze warnings so what was left in the garden got harvested. My garden is a small raised bed and the last of the harvest was 4 lbs of broccoli from six plants, 7 pounds of peppers from 6 plants giving us a total for the year of not quite 30 pounds of peppers, 5 more pounds of carrots for a grand total for the year of 25 pounds. Most of the broccoli and peppers have been packaged up and in the freezer. We did some grocery shopping and found frozen veggies that aren't in our garden for 99 cents per package and a few other stock up items. 6 month dermatology visit for hubby. They found two more suspicious spots that were biopsied and a couple of precancerous lesions that were burned off. We will have the results of the biopsies tomorrow. I worked on Thanksgiving cards. I love the look of envelope liners so I made some using a stencil and ink for the design on them. I made 3D embellishments to go on the cards.
We stopped at Ollies and I found some cookbooks I had wanted for an unbelievably low price. One listed on Amazon for $30 and I got it for $6 and the other listed on Amazon for $20 and I got it for $4. Today we will harvest the rest of the sweet potatoes. "All is safely gathered in." Wishing everyone a blessed day and please VOTE if ou haven't already. Cookie

For a 'small' garden you got a lot! That is fantastic. This was the first year in ages that I didn't weigh my harvest.
It sounds like it was definitely a good garden year for you. Think how much all that would have cost.
Hoping all is well and good with the biopsy. Your cards are so pretty. I love the Halloween card - last week I got last year's Thanksgiving card back out for display - it is so pretty. YES, I have kept them all!
Ollies has the best book prices around! That is always where I buy books for gifts.
      Most assuredly voting!!!!
Happy harvest and have a wonderful week.

  15. Oh no sorry about your sis. I will keep her in my good thoughts. There aren't too many ways we can rearrange our furniture in our livingroom. One wall has a huge window, one wall has a fireplace with built ins and one opens into the dining room so I work with the one wall I have. It's all good though. Have a good week. It's going to be a little stressful for all of us.

  16. So sorry about your sister. She is lucky to have you close by. 17. So sorry to read of your sister's fall - never easy. I hope that you will be able to visit often and keep her spirits up.
Everyone I know says the same thing - where has the time gone these past couple of months! I still work 25 hrs per week (about half the time at home) so that keeps me busy but ensures that I get out the door at least 3 days per week! I try to do errands/shopping on the way home - especially to stores that I might not go to often - just to see what goodies or sales they might have. Stopped by Whole Foods yesterday after church and picked up a few little goodies for the pantry - and I was pleased to note that much of their meat and seafood was at least competitive with other stores (still expensive but not ridiculously out of line) and the quality is really good. I don't need anything at the moment but will probably pick up a few items before Christmas.

Otherwise just added a few - mostly non-food - items to the shelves. I did also take advantage of an offer at my local store where I was able to purchase a 6 litre stainless steel pot with lid for 75% off - I had collected enough stamps over the past 6 weeks to be able to do this. It is exactly what I needed.

I have been up since the crack of dawn due to the time change and have done my quota of office work already so I am going to get dressed and off out to meet a friend for the afternoon - we are going to the Royal Winter Fair - now in it's 170th year - always fun and interesting and usually a great place to pick up some new food items.

    1. Thank you. We will all work together to keep her motivated and smiling!
Good to hear the store was at least competitive. I have added non-food items recently as well. What a great deal on the steel pot. That will be nice.
I am not liking this time thing at all. I have always gotten up about 6:30 - but now it is 5:30! Cats are on their own clock!! The day seems sooooo long now! Crazy as it sounds - that hour makes a huge difference.
Have a fun day with your friend. That sounds like great fun.
ENJOY and have a super week.

  18. Cheryl, I just read this, I will certainly be praying for your sister. Things like this can happen so fast. It sounds very painful! That poor thing...Oh my gosh. How awful.

It's been an awful week, we lost little Harper as we rushed her back to the vet, she passed away in my arms, and now I'm treating Leelo like mad. Long story. So please say a little prayer for me and Leelo.

I hope you're doing well, Cheryl. I've been away from blogger a lot lately, just so much to catch up on and feeling a little discouraged with it all. I'm so glad you were able to have that nice lunch with your sister, I sure will be praying for her, life is just so crazy sometimes....Just so darn crazy. May God be with us all. ...And I know He already is.

Sincere prayers and care coming your way, ~Amelia
