Howdy to all. Hope this finds you all good and well this great day. It is a misty and chilly morning here. 55*F this morning, probably not getting much above 60*!! Good grief. Last night I even threw an afgan over the bed, as it was a bit chilly in here. Boy did I sleep good.
What an odd weather year it has been.
This weekend, a lot is going on around the country. It has always been considered the first weekend of summer! LOL - I think someone forgot to tell Mother Nature.
People start camping, pools open, BBQ's start happening, graduation parties, there is just a tons of things. Around my area - it is the 500 Mile Race. It is huge around here. I am not a big sports fan at all - but I am always excited to see the 'missing man formation' of planes fly over. They always end up going right over my house when they are leaving the area. It is just an awesome sight and sound! I find that a thrill.
It is Memorial Day this Monday - a day of remembrance of all those young men and women that have given the ultimate sacrifice over the years. I hope everyone takes a moment of silence to just remember and quietly say thanks. I am sure many areas will have services, honoring these folks. I remember years ago, going to my sisters' out in the country - her husband was a member of VFW, and they did services at a lot of the small older cemeteries (so no one was forgotten). I saw many of these services and the one thing that always got to me, was the playing of TAPS. I still cry every time I here that.
Are you getting together with family this weekend or just chilling at home and enjoying a quiet weekend? I will probably stay home, and porch sit! I may do some sewing as well.
Camping maybe? We used to always go camping over the holiday weekends. It was such fun getting with our friends. Goodness, we did that a lot of years!
I don't need any groceries this week again. I may however, go get a watermelon or some corn. Both are on sale. Not much else that I saw in the ads seemed to be much of a deal. I hope you all find some good deals. Usually, holidays are the time to add to the pantry - with all the seasonal deals.
Have fun with your family and friends and make FANTASTIC memories together.
Enjoy your holiday weekend and stay safe and NEVER FORGET the sacrifices made for our freedoms.
God bless!
Memories of loved ones are precious to me. Even the memory of my three infant sons remind me that someday I will see them.
ReplyDeleteIt is daggone chilly! We even turned on the furnace to take off the chill. I dug a pair of winter pyjamas out of storage. People figured by the few warm days we had, that summer had arrived. Seems the weather does this each year.
The 500 sold out, 250,000 tickets plus 150,000 folks in the infield. What a nightmare for anyone trying to get around. Erin was supposed to work on Sunday but they changed her day off. She lives at Gasoline Alley and Rockville Road, so you can imagine the traffic.
Enjoy your weekend! We will hang around here, which is fine with me.
Yes, precious memories and the gift of knowing that we will be re-united. Awesome!
DeleteIt is chilly. I put on a sweater to go out today. Yep, we got fooled alright!
That is a lot of people in one place, then the Pacers are downtown that night for the play-offs. Oh my goodness, the people this town will see this weekend.
Glad I am right here! At least people here can watch the race LIVE this year if they choose.
Talk Sunday!
Our long weekend was last weekend for the Queen's birthday, but we do have Remembrance Day in November (11th). This past weekend is supposed to be the first weekend of camping, but it wasn't very pleasant. We are, however, finally, getting some sun later today and temperatures warming up. Hooray!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your flyover!
We celebrate 11/11 as Veteran's Day here. I think most places have similar holidays - just at different times. It is nice.
DeleteYes, I can imagine - a little chilly for camping (for me). Yay, on sun and warmth!!
After three days of company I am trying to remember good things....
ReplyDeleteLOL - those visitors were good things --- even though you are probably worn out. So many good things in our lives.
DeleteI turned my heating pad I use for my shoulder and put it under my blanket last night as it was chilly. It felt so good! It's hard to believe that Monday is the unofficial start of summer with this cold weather. The water will definitely be chilly for any swimmers. Nothing special planned here, although we always did get together with family on holidays like this back in the day.
ReplyDeleteThat was a smart idea to warm up. It is - it is so chilly, sure doesn't seem like almost the end of May. I can't imagine wanting to swim or boat in this weather.
DeleteI remember all the family outings for the holidays and then friends and camping. Those were some fun days. Now I like them quiet!
Glad I had not put away all my sweatshirts - shoot, they're waiting for the next big "dark wash" load! Chilly this morning for sure!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend, all. Remember those who are gone ahead. Yes, some day we hope to see them again, to be with them.
MaryB
LOL - I put on a sweater today and shoes! I am so used to t-shirts and flip-flops.
DeleteYou have a great one too. Yes mam, someday all together again!
Like Maebeme our weekend is supposed to warm up. I know a few people that went camping last weekend even though it was very cool and very rainy.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Glad it is warming. I loved camping, but hated tent camping when it was cold or raining!
DeleteNo special plans here. We have a wedding on Saturday night, so I am putting on my good shoes and wearing them around the house tomorrow to be sure they won't give me blisters!
ReplyDeleteI hope we all get warmer weather!
Have a nice time at the wedding! I haven't worn dress shoes in so long. I would probably have to do the same thing.
DeleteI hope for a little warmer too. I am being careful what I wish for!
On Monday our high will be near 70 and I'm excited. First Memorial day parade we will enjoy without heat exhaustion! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl, I love ❤️ the positive reminders here. It is chilly here in Montreal, Canadaπ¨π¦ and I don't mind because the forecast is calling for a very hot π and scorching summer. That plus the wildfires π₯ we get here puts our temperatures at over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. As well the quality of air diminishes greatly due to the already hot and humid conditions.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate π your post. Warm greetings from a 68 year old retired lady.
Thanks! I keep hearing about how chilly it is in Canada. I kind of like the cooler temps too, as it will get hot soon enough and we will all be miserable. That would be horrible to have wildfires - my area is so lucky in that respect.
DeleteWe are close to the same age. 70, retired and widowed here.
Glad to have you stop by, please stick around!
I'm hoping it starts to warm up a little bit more so I can start on my garden. I only do a small one because I'm so limited on time with work, but it's my pride and joy because of that. I'm hoping after all of the festivities this weekend, I'll be able to start planting. Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI hope you can get your garden in as well. It does keep you busy, when also working. I remember those days!
DeleteGardening is so much fun and so great to get all those wonderful veggies, right out the door.
Good luck, hope you get it all done!
I'm going to invite my adult kids over for bbq Monday.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds perfect. Have a wonderful time with your family. Enjoy every minute.
DeleteYou had me at Howdy! Here in Houston Tx. Was over 100 degrees already! I did scroll up to check the date on your post just to see I was on most recent post. WoW that’s crazy cool weather. -Rosa R.
ReplyDeleteI have been hearing about the heat that TX gets. We have had a couple 80's days - and it should be in 70's and 80's by now - but Mother Nature has different plans! Funny, how different areas have such different weather. Nature sure is something. Stay cool!!!!!
DeleteBeautiful thoughts on Memorial Day and the *true* meaning of it! Sometimes I become a little aggravated when people seem to be dismissive of the true meaning. These soldiers gave their all. ...Oh my gosh.
ReplyDeleteI remember taking my four little girls to the courthouse at a beautiful ceremony there and sitting in the chairs there in the green lawn and just bawling my eyes out...So touching. Our little girls had homemade little booklets they made and the elderly gentlemen vets who were in attendance would autograph their sweet little red, white and blue construction paper booklets.
Take care and God bless, great blog entry, ~Amelia
Thank you Amelia. Yes, many people forget the real meaning of this holiday. We have several days for Vets and for those still serving, but this one is for remembering those that gave ALL. I have a dear friend that lost their son in Iraq, and it is still so very painful.
DeleteHow sweet of your little girls - and I bet the Veterans felt honored.
Lest we forget!
My uncle recently passed and he was a veteran. He and his wife gave so much of their time cooking for others at the VFW. They had a memorial service for him there and so many people attended and shared memories of not only my uncle, but of their time serving and the buddies they lost.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful tribute. We sure need to honor those that gave so much for our freedoms and the freedoms of others. God bless them all.
DeleteWe will be gathering at my daughter's house tomorrow. It is something we do every year although we are usually in the pool by now. Not this year! I put my summer quilt on the bed thinking it would be warmer temps by now. I, too, had to add my grandma's knitted afghan to the bed for warmth the last few nights. I am so very thankful for those that gave their lives for us. The ultimate sacrifice.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a lovely time with your family and totally enjoy every minute. Yes indeed, a little too chilly for a pool! I am good now but sure needed extra covers for a couple nights. We got fooled!
DeleteHave a lovely weekend.
