Anti-Shopping

Howdy all.  Good to be here this morning.  Hope all are well.  It is another cloudy morning, in the 70's right now.  We had a brief 'storm' blow through last evening about 8PM.  Lots of wind and some rain - didn't last long - but we sure had a wind event whip up.  Luckily nothing damaged.  More rain today (?) maybe!

I am a list maker!  I still hand write a grocery list when needed.  I don't do it electronically.  I make lists of gifts bought at the holidays, I make lists of things I want to accomplish, I make lists for all kinds of things.  That being said - I am trying not to shop.
I have been in a anti-shopping mode lately.  I have had no need to shop - so I have stayed home!  There is a novel idea. (I did make a quick stop at the feed store).
I personally, need nothing for groceries right now and I need nothing for my house - so why go out?

I may have posted this before - I can't remember - but it sure is a great way to save some money, save some resources, and save stuff from the landfills.
I like being able to figure out a 'new' way to do things or a 'new' use for things.  I do this most with groceries, as you know.
I do like the idea of supporting small business.  You are helping on a more personal level - it is their livelihood and how they support their family - not supporting a corporate giant.
There are so many ways we can NOT shop if we choose.  Many, many options for getting creative and using what we have.  Super way to save funds if you are trying to.

If you are on track of trying to save for a certain thing, or saving an emergency fund, or paying off a debt, just short on funds - whatever the reason - think about anti-shopping!  Look around and see what you have.  I bet you have a lot more than you think - use it and get 'creative' (my word of the year).
***************

I am going to leave you today with a little laugh!
This person was strolling the neighborhood on a bright sunny day in the mid 90's just recently.  The head, face and neck were covered by the mask, a pair of cover-all's on, and gloves on hands!  Yep, he slowly strolled down our street on a Sunday afternoon, and all the surrounding streets.  A neighbor took this picture of him at the gas station down the road.  I have seen him (?) do this around Halloween before in the cooler temps - but this day was HOT!  Yep, starting early.
I guess he must be a big Michael fan!!!
I have to admit, the first time I ever saw him, it was kind of creepy.  Now it is normal, believe it not.
You just never know what you might see out there!

Have a wonderful day and stay cool!
Make the most of this day!

  1. I went shopping! (I know, me, the one who hates it). I bought several boxes filled with school supplies for the local HS resource room. Students are welcome to stop by to fill needs their parents cannot afford. 💗💗

    1. Elle that sounds like a wonderful shopping trip to me. A very kind gesture for sure. I am sure it will help many. Thank you!

  2. Kudos to Miss Elle for her shopping excursion! Great anti-shopping list.

I noticed the back patio was wet this morning. Chance of rain most of the day, I think. The weeds are loving it! I need to check raspberries and for other things to harvest.

Hmmm, wonder why that fellow dresses like that, especially on a hot day.

    Have a good weekend!

    1. Agree!
Oh the weeds are crazy. I just can't keep up with trimming and pulling - they grow and grow and it's too dang hot most of the time to get out and do stuff. (or wet)
Your guess is as good as mine - no clue - guess he thinks he is intimidating or something! LOL
      Thanks - you too!

  3. #8 speaks to me. When I built the house 24 yrs ago, a decision had to be made re: contractor. A wise neighbor asked, "Who do you want to give your money to?" That has guided me many times over the years. Shopping is not a recreational activity for me. I'd rather go for a walk in nature vs walking in stores.

    1. That is a good one to speak to you! It really does matter.
I love the grocery store - but that is about it. But I need nothing, so staying home. Plenty to do here!
A walk in nature = JOY!

  4. A recent article in our local paper caught my eye, it asked people to fill a backpack full of school supplies and drop it at the local police station. I asked our 4 and 7 year old grandsons if they would like to do this, and so we did. Fortunately we were given 2 new backpacks so we went to the store, they picked the items, and we dropped them off. Neither boy argued when I said that we were only shopping for this purpose, and seemed happy to help others. That was my kind of shopping trip!

    1. That is wonderful and what a great lesson for the boys. Our police stations do that and so do a couple of credit unions around town. Such a nice gesture. I have donated directly to the school down the street to me, several times. They always like getting supplies for the kiddos.
So nice the boys are learning young!

    2. That's such a lovely thing to do. I bet the boys had fun doing it too.

  5. Having spent a lot, I feel like, this week due to unforeseen circumstances, this is a timely post for me. I'm not spending any more money. I don't need anything else right now, although I did need some supplies, as of now there is no reason to spend any more money.
I'm a list maker too, always have been, probably always will be.

    1. Some weeks/months are worse than others. Sometimes you just have to spend. You have had some special issues lately, so very understandable.
Hope you can get through the remainder of the month or a good portion, without more spending. Good luck.

  6. I definitely need to try to curb our spending more. I have let that get away from me here recently, but it is time to reign it in. Very good tips! As for Michael Myers in the thick of summer...LOL! I guess to each their own, haha!

    1. It happens. I think we all have times when we spend a lot more than planned.
Getting back on track is the biggy. Good luck.
Yep, guess he must be a BIG fan!!! I don't get it - but he has us talking about it!! LOL

  7. I did go shopping on Tuesday, but will not be doing so again for at least 2 weeks. We do plan on going to visit youngest so that will mean filling the vehicle with gas, but no more spending until we get back from there....
Big written list maker here as well. I have daily to do lists, grocery lists, extra cleaning lists, project lists, and when we go somewhere packing lists.

    God bless.

Big list maker here too. I do lists for everything.

  8. I for sure spent some money this week, but I don't feel bad about it at all, I'm delighted! As I was out for a medical appt (in another city) I stopped by Walmart (we don't have one in our town) to buy cat food and found two other things that had been on my list for a long while - one for a couple *years*.

One way for me to look at it is that I was careful about spending for a good long while so when I found the things I needed I was ready and able. Another is that this trip combined several different things at once: cat food, 2 long time list things, medical, and on the way home bought gas for the car.

Now it's time to quit spending again for a while. :)

    1. Some weeks are like that. WM has good cat food prices. Glad you found things you have been looking for.
I agree 100%. That is why we are frugal most days - so we can do what we want or need on other days! Always combining errands makes so much sense.
      I go in spurts too!

  9. Someone should have called the cops on this guy. If he thinks it's OK to wander about like this, maybe next time you'll see him going door to door threatening folks with a machete, taking his cosplay up a notch.

    1. He does this every year around Halloween - for days on end. This was just early and hot.

  10. I really can't understand people who shop for fun. I wanted some new bras this week and went to several shops in our nearest city, without any luck. It was very frustrating. My husband then discovered a small local business that is on an industrial estate, rather than the high street (which is why I didn't know about it). They seem to have what I am looking for, so I plan on paying them a visit next week. I need time to work myself up for going shopping again!

    1. I do enjoy grocery shopping - I go early and there is always so much to see.
Otherwise I do not like shopping. That said, I don't do online shopping either - pretty much at all. I go out when I need gifts, but I just don't like all the people! Good luck finding what you want.

  11. lol on the pic! I am having issues so I made boiled chicken quarters and added cut up potatoes, can of green beans, came of carrots and some fresh spinach. I cannot eat raw carrots or many raw vegetables without getting violently ill but can eat all cooked. So far, I have not had issues since consuming this. I hope I don’t have to go even further to a boiled chicken, potatoes, and rice week.it is rainy here bc of the weather on the coast. Cindy in the South

    1. The combo sounds really good to me. I hope it works for you and you get to feeling better and have less issues.
I know some people just can't handle fresh items. Everyone's gut is different. Hope this does the trick!
