Hello and happy Sunday to all. Hope you are all well and safe.
It has been a crazy weather week all around. Friday, we had winds that didn't seem to cease! I was out actually 'catching' trash as it blew! Powerful winds.
They are coming back again today, with thunderstorms coming late tonight. Some areas north of here are predicted to have blizzards!! Winter isn't done yet!
Trees are budding all over, and flowers and bushes are popping out and being pretty. The magnolias are just starting to bloom, but will be DONE within the next 24-48 hours, as we are to get in the teens once more. We will have the coldest St. Patrick's Day in nearly a century!!!! Crazy stuff. I hope all getting winds, storms and lots of snow stay safe.
My frugal week:
- Lots and lots of walks - free exercise
- Spent some time doing yard clean-up, raking, bagging, cutting and pulling - and moving some things around
- Picked a big bouquet of daffodils - since they will be gone after tomorrow. Probably need to pick more today (70* today)
- Aired the house out and had furnace off for a good bit of the week
- Used the air fryer and the crockpot this week to avoid the oven
- Lots of laundry in cold and hung to dry
- Fixed a spot on the awning out front that had a loose piece of metal that banged like crazy Friday in the wind - that was fun being on a step ladder in the wind!
- Refilled all the feeder bins with feed on hand
- Had to plug in the watering holes again - when not raining as cold coming back
- Using what I have on hand and making new meals from leftovers
- Pulled out a mini pork loin from freezer and cooked in the crockpot (will give 3 meals)
- One day I was chilly and I also wanted something sweet - so I made a big mug of hot chocolate w/lots of marshmallows - so nummy
- Did a little sewing
- NO grocery shopping
- Doing all the normal stuff
Nothing exciting here!
Meals this past week:
Baked potato topped w/chili, cheese and sour cream
Chicken strips, brussel sprouts, and sauteed carrots strips
Dirty rice (homemade spicey rice) and fried cabbage
Bean, rice, cheese enchiladas (done on stove top)
Fish sandwich, mixed greens cooked and carrot sticks
Pork loin w/carrots and potatoes
BBQ shredded pork sandwich topped with shredded cabbage and l/o greens as side
SNACKS: toast, fruit, nuts
There you have it. Nothing real exciting here. Counting down the days until it gets warmer and stays!
How has your week been? What kind of weather are you getting? Any good deals this week?
Let us know what is going on in your life.
I hope you are all safe and stay safe with all the weird weather that is happening this weekend.
Prayers for your health and safety.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.
Psalms 7:17
Dear Lord, thank you again for all the many blessings that we have had this week. Help us each one see the light that comes from our darkest moments, and the joy in little things. There are many things in life that are sad and depressing and worrisome, but with You we can get through all. Prayers for all our family and friends, and prayers for all everywhere. Help us to remember that things happen as part of Your plan, and we need to have faith. AMEN

Nothing blooming here! There's still lots of snow on the ground with temps hovering around -10C. Temps in the +digits are expected next week. I've just returned from a vacation to Costa Rica with my DIL. No snow to worry about there with temps >30C day & night. I still maintain it's easier to warm up in the cold than cool off in the heat. We saw some beautiful sights, learned a litte of how another culture lives, & visited with friends old & new. Homecoming was sweet. I am a homebody. So back to the routine of my quiet life. It was a pleasure to clear a little snow yesterday, chop some kindling, fill the woodbox & light a fire in the wood stove. In the kitchen: chicken stir fry w/ rice; cabbage soup from the freezer.
ReplyDeleteGosh, sorry you still have such weather - but it sounds like it suits you! How neat to go on that trip - I bet that was a nice little reprieve. I bet you are thrilled to be back in your little world.
DeleteI must say I am a cool off from heat kind of gal. I hate cold weather.
Have a lovely week.
82 degrees today and tornadoes tonight with a huge cold front coming in early tomorrow morning. I plan to do my hour walk bc I am not walking in the cold
ReplyDeletetomorrow. The weather is nuts. I made The Tightwqd Gazette Lentil casserole and also this weekend made corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, onion, turnips. I will eat that until gone and then plan to pull out the pumpkin bean chill I soup that has spaghetti squash, and peppers in it also. I did a bit of stock up on oats, sugar, grits, corn meal bc with gas prices going so high I was worried about food inflation price. I eat mostly at home so this will all get used. I feel I am fine on basics like dried beans, peanut butter, rice, grits, cornmeal, etc. I don’t make sandwich bread and so I typically do not keep a lot of flour. I may have to start making it though bc of price!!I just don’t like making bread although I am fine with cornbread bc it is fast. !Have a great week! Cindy in the South
Weather is nuts for sure. 71* here today and 31* in the morning and teens by Tuesday morning. Then back in 60's later in week. Just enough cold to kill things!
DeleteOh goodness, your food sounds good. I found a new recipe for kind of like fry bread made with lentils I want to try.
I have plenty of basics on hand, so haven't thought much about stocking. I do imagine prices may go up some with the gas prices - but things will get to normal again.
It takes me forever to eat a loaf of bread.
Have a lovely week.
We are expecting nights in the teens as well, just as the azaleas are beginning to open. I hope they won't all be frozen because they are so pretty. Glad I don't have magnolias - they seem *always* to get hit with a cold spell, I remember that from my childhood! This morning I took some pictures of the daffodils as they'll be flattened by cold this week. I want a record, as I spent the last few years moving bulbs areound, splitting up huge non-blooming clumps, so the blooms this year have been a great pleasure. :)
ReplyDeleteNext week I plan to buy bulb fertilizer when I'm in town to sprinkle on the daffodil remains because this is the season that I know where the bulbs really are. By autumn they're all gone to ground.
Quiet week here except lunch with my cousin and hymn singing this weekend.
Stay warm, y'all!
MaryB
Yep, almost every year the magnolias get hit. I think last year they had a chance to get beautiful. I hope your plants make it.
DeleteThe daffodils are so joyful to see - like a natures smile!
Quiet is good.
Have a beautiful week.
Oh, we have much for which to be thankful! Last night I was struggling with letting go of a situation, to allow Yehovah take the wheel.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to turn off the furnace and air the house a bit. Right now it is pretty nice, the sun is shining, and the temperature is moderate. Sadly, much colder and nasty weather is coming.
Oh no, hope Licorice shows up. Maybe someone took him in and he is living the Life of Riley.
Off to Lowe's in Avon to pick up garden supplies. Enjoy your day!
Yes mam, so much to be thankful for. It is sometimes to let go and give it to God.
DeleteIt is pretty. Turned off heat and have a window or 2 cracked a bit for now.
I doubt anyone could get him inside, but maybe he just got tired of all the 'new' ones that are here! He moved here to get away from a bully - so who knows. I sure hope he is ok.
Have a fun day and a nice week.
A heartwarming Sunday story. Less than 3 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybLYmCc0Vu8
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL!!!! I heard about her and the boy this week - what a wonderful story with a perfect outcome!
DeleteThanks.
Have a special week.
OMGoodness, I meant to say "prayers for Licorice". That is the disadvantage of outdoor animals. When they go, where did they go? Are they ok?It's crazy making.
ReplyDeleteMaryB
Thanks Mary - I know - they come and go, but that doesn't mean they don't attach themselves to our hearts.
DeleteI saw on the news that a bad storm was heading your way and up north of you as well, please be careful and stay as safe (that includes climbing on your ladder too!) as you can. I hope your Licorice cat comes back around soon. I had a cat that disappeared for a couple of weeks one time and one day he just showed back up. I was so glad to see him, and I hope Licorice comes home soon too. I recently got some bird seed to fill my bird feeders, and the squirrels have taken that as a challenge. Bahahaha! They are crazy! Your meals sound delicious and I love a good fish sandwich. We are doing well here and I'm getting stronger every day I feel my energy coming back, so it's all good, I hope you have a great week and stay safe, Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteYep, it sounds like a noisy and windy night ahead. Feel for those up north - blizzards!
DeleteI hope he comes back too - thanks for saying that happened to you - it gives me hope.
I have bird feeds fixed so the squirrels can't get to them - but it used to be a challenge. They are funny to watch.
I am so glad you are doing so much better and slow and steady, wins the race.
Thanks, will try to get through tonight well - then it is brighter days ahead for a while.
Have a blessed week.
