A Smile and a Helping Hand Up

Hello all.  Hope everyone is safe and well today.  It is a beautiful morning after here!
There were storms all over the state last night and even yesterday afternoon.  Crazy storms.  They came from IL (hit hard). and moved in the western part of my state and moved east and south.  My area was again spared from a lot of damage.  The southern part of the state is a lot of hills and woods, that is where the Hoosier National Forest is - and it is massive.  Watching the news this morning - places were hit hard.  Fierce straight-line winds and several tornadoes.  So much damage - trees down, roads blocked, homes & businesses hit.  Amazingly there have not been any reports of death - thank God.
I have some limbs down, and I lost one line on the clothesline from a big limb.  Big whoop!  So blessed.

What I have been seeing on the news that is just amazing to me - is neighbor helping neighbor.  Many farmers are bringing out their heavy equipment and helping to clear backroads and helping their neighbors search through debris.  That is what it is all about!!!!!!
If we all try to be 'givers' the world would be such a wonderful place.  Oh heck, even though we all see bad crap on the news everyday - it IS a wonderful place!!!!  There is love and joy and helping and caring that never get mentioned.  That is what I try to do here.  Mention it, spread good cheer and you all help as well.  What a great group.

I have an old friend that always says "you can't be that happy" when she sees me.  She is always teasing that I must have a man hidden here at the house - to be so happy.  LOL
Well, it benefits me and it benefits others for me to be in a good mood and to be happy.  We can all choose to be nasty, mean, sad, etc.. - I choose happy!
This is how I try to see things.

Today, as I watch the news of the storms - YEP, bad stuff happened last night - BUT no one died.  Yes, people lost homes and possessions - BUT stuff can generally be replaced.  There were campers in tents in the forest - BUT they are fine.  Hopefully insurance helps folks and neighbors help each other and the workers that were out before daylight - have been helping and clearing and restoring power.
It is just wonderful how many HEROES there really are in this world.

It may not be a storm - it may be someone who has been ill, or someone who has lost a job, or someone who is homeless, or someone going through a family loss - whatever it is - YOU can be a hero too.
A kind word, a helping hand, some groceries, a few dollars, a little labor, JUST a smile - it can be huge for someone else.  A PRAYER can also be huge!
Be a helper in some way!!!!!!

Have a bright and beautiful day.
I hope all are safe. (please check in)

  1. The helping hand of neighbors is what we saw in the 2024 hurricane... the amazing sight of heavy eaquipment that people had - graders, loaders, backhoes, chainsaws. The main issue was fuel at first, because no power and even main roads were closed by damage.

Glad there were no deaths for ya'll out there, and wonderful you had no big damage, Cheryl. A clothesline isn't much, is it! :D Happy Day.

    1. Community is everything really. I remember all the stories you told about people helping each other - it was always so touching. We are one big community, and we should do what we can when we can.
Pppphhh - NOTHING here is wrong at all - we were so blessed.
      Have a happy day yourself.

  2. Glad your only damage was a clothes line. It is so encouraging to see neighbor helping neighbor. With all the wind and heavy rain, I expected to see some damage, even minor. Was Bits disturbed by all the racket?

Today is nice and cool. May go out and do some weeding...maybe not. Doing laundry with some on the line. We covered the herb bed again. Saw our first black swallowtail butterfly, who likes to lay her eggs on the parsley. The caterpillars will eat it down to the ground. The storm didn't knock my red raspberries off that plants. Enough for breakfast this morning, with tons of green ones ready to ripen.

    Enjoy your weekend!

    1. That was nothing at all. It sure is encouraging - it gives me a bit of hope in the human race again.
Only real late, the last big boomer that happened, did he decide to get under a cover!!!
The babies and the other outdoor cats did well too. Pip has moved them many times, and last few days has been back to the greenhouse.
It is so nice today. Widows open and a nice breeze is hitting my right now. Might be a good nap day, after all the noise and such last night. Glad your plants survived.
I saw a Monarch the other day - first one of the season. Enjoy this lovely weather

  3. I am blessed to live in a community that helps each other out when things happen.
I'm glad you didn't have much damage from the storms. It was a brutal one.
We had 30-40 mile an hour winds all afternoon and evening pushing the warm air up to Central Illinois and they got hit very hard. My brother has lost 6 or 7 trees already this spring along with the back of his workshop because of all of the storms and tornadoes.
We lost power for 4 or 5 hours due to a tree falling on a power line in our neighborhood. Other than that, we had nothing.
But we saw little to no rain again.

    1. It sure was a brutal storm front. It was windy yesterday for sure. We had rain in afternoon, then buckets of rain late last night.
I am glad that only a power outage was had for you - and no damage. I am sorry your brother has gone through all that.
Heard this morning - we had no tornadoes or warnings at all in May here - and this month already it has hit almost 2 doz.
      Crazy stuff.

  4. I choose to be happy too! My neighbors and I all help each other with the skills we have sometimes that involves cooking, groceries, lawn mowing, or sometimes moving a tree. You can’t beat good neighbors.

    1. It IS a choice - isn't it? Why not be? That is what I think - I just can't imagine being a miserable old grump all the time!
I am glad you have a great community too. That is wonderful to be there for each other.

  5. I moved over three years ago and live in a gated type community, with community rooms where activities are held if you want to join in, which I sometimes do. I have noticed that the generous people are the most happiest. Some of them have had hard lives and many ailments but they are always looking out for others. The constant complainers seem to be the most unhappiest.

    1. I think that is a fair observation of the world in general. Kind of how I see things as well. We make our own joy!

    1. Thanks - it does get scary. I don't understand why it is ALWAYS a storm anymore. What ever happened to plain old rain. Glad you are ok.

  7. We were watching the weather and expecting much worse than we got. the worst of it went to the south of us. We just got heavy rain with thunder and lightning for which we are very grateful. Our basement has flooded in the past and we are always a little worried about that when rain is so heavy. Glad you are okay, Cheryl. It is encouraging to see communities come together to help each other out.

    1. I hear there are more storms coming Sunday - ugh! Enough is enough. I hope you get nothing bad. Storms are so scary.
Luckily I haven't had the basement flood in a long time - I feel for you. That is such a mess to clean up and it isn't easy to do.
      Stay safe.

    1. LOL - funny but not. Same here.
So thankful the hand of God was with us all. No major injuries is really something with all the destruction.

    1. Thanks.
I do believe bad things do bring out good people. It happens so much. Sure there are bad ones too - but for the most part people just care!

  10. Cheryl, First off, I am so glad you are safe and no real damage to your property. God had His arms around you!
Secondly-I have always taught my kids and grandkids that the best thing they can be in life is to BE KIND. We never know what someone else is going through--what is hidden behind a smile or a closed door. Sometimes a kind word or a smile can change someone's whole day. I have people that have said to me over the years- You seem Happy! I AM happy....happy with what I have and happy that I am as healthy as I am. Several special people in my life have called me Sunshine over the years. Hugs to you and Happy Weekend- Diana

    1. Yes He did! My family as well!
Yes, there is no reason to not be kind. It is something easy and simple and YES it can change an entire day for someone. I try to exchange a pleasant word or a smile or a laugh with others when out.
Boy you said it. "Happy with what I have and that I am as healthy as I am." Agree 100%
there are so many that would be tremendously happy with our lives!
