Hello and happy Sunday to all. I hope this finds all well.
It is a warmer morning here, it was 70* when I got up and it is kind of humid. Summer is here! It has surely warmed up. We have gotten little rain, but there are chances every day (small chances). Last evening we got a few gentle showers, but that is it. This next week is going to be hot with 80's and maybe a 90*F day.
Kitties are doing well and so darn cute. Little balls of fur and I got to pet their little heads. Pippy has moved them a couple times - she is finding cool spots.
Garden is growing well. I have lots of green cherry tomatoes hanging out there, a baby squash and blooms, and lots of blooms on other plants.
Gosh, the plants in barrels and containers are huge compared to the ones in ground - it must be the new soil.
Sis had a cardiac event this week and went into the hospital for a few days. Lots of fluid had to be removed. She is feeling good and in a pleasant mood and heading back home. She sure is a trooper.
My brother-in-law passed away last Sunday evening. This was Glen's little brother (age 66). That immediate family is now all gone. Gary went through so much and has been in a care facility for the last 7 years. He really declined a lot recently, and I am truly happy for him to be at peace. A life well lived, such a good guy, and now he is Home and healthy for eternity.
My frugal week:- Used a pint of the green tomatoes I canned last year - need to use them to get ready for fresh this year
- Mowed and trimmed everything
- Finished deadheading all the peonies - big job
- Grocery for a few items and I listed the deals I got earlier this week
- Stopped and got new wiper blades while out (they installed for me)
- Drinking lots of iced tea and water
- Vacuumed sealed a lot of jars of dry goods
- Walks - early to stay cool
- Made some eggrolls - ate a couple and froze the other 6 (used air fryer)
- Made a big bowl of pasta/veggie salad (YUM)
- Used a lot of the rain barrel water - sure needs replenished
- Just doing all the normal stuff
- Picked flowers for inside & brought home a couple indiv. flowers from the funeral
- Funeral was yesterday. It was so good to see Glen's extended family - it has been a lot of years with most
- Got a surprise visit from my nephew and his wife - they showed up about 10 minutes after I got home from the funeral. Sure glad I was home - nice to see them - they had been in town for an anniversary meal
Meals this past week:
Fried green tomatoes and a small salad
Pizza meatball sub (on hotdog bun) and salad
Eggroll bowl
Fried chicken tenders (air fryer) & just snacked
Cheeseburger on cheesy flatbread topped w/salad
2 Eggrolls and pasta salad
Grilled cheese and pasta salad
I have been battling poison ivy! It got pretty bad for a few days - oh, the itch. Had it on face, arms and hands - between fingers was the worst. I am on the mend now, with hardly any itch - it is finally drying up. Thank goodness. I guess that is my summer initiation!!
I look forward to a quiet week ahead. It will be hot, so will do things early and later in days outside.
How was your week? Any fun events or good deals? Give us a shout out and say hello!
Have a lovely week ahead and may you all stay safe and healthy and keep your family and friends close.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.
Psalms 34:4
Dear Lord we send thanks for all our many blessings and moments that we spent this week. Each moment is a gift. Help us each to hand our fears, our anger, our lives over to You, knowing that You will help us through all things. May we each call out and ask for Your love and blessings and Your will to be done. Keeping blessings in our heart for all others, may we each be good citizens of earth and good stewards of Your word. Amen

Good morning, Cheryl. I'm so sorry to hear about your brother-in-law. Thank God for Heaven. I'll continue to pray for your sister. I'm glad she's doing better now.
ReplyDeleteWe've had pretty much the same weather as you. Summer is truly here and how fun to play with the kitties. Poison ivy is the worst. I don't come in contact with it often. The last time was a few years ago and I hated every itchy minute of it! I hope yours goes away quickly. I'm sure you know all the tricks by now. I made some iced tea yesterday. It will be so refreshing in the coming hot days. Have a great rest of your day! Darcy (NanaD)
Thank you - he is so much better off now, bless his heart. Sis is quite a spunky lady!
DeleteI just got a little tickle on their heads - momma was watching closely and wasn't sure!
Yep, the heat is here - knew it would happen. Not complaining, because I hate winter! I get poison every year - but this was bad. The itch is so intense. But healing now.
Love iced tea on a hot summer day - well, I like it all the time.
Have a special week.
We sang yesterday, an all-day singing. Lovely! All those old hymns speak to me. :) Funerals are interesting. Yes, there is sorrow, but also relief that the worst is over - Home at Last! Things are growing, and it's a challenge to keep up with watering. Even the weeds are thirsty now. Nice you have baby kitties to play with, and you are taming them so maybe they'll find good homes. So cute, little fuzzy furry things. :)
ReplyDeleteHope the poison ivy goes away. We get it here too, thanks to the birds.
Stay cool and have a good week! Good luck on catching Pippy for a spay before she starts up again.

I bet you enjoyed your day.
DeleteYes, I did fine until Amazing Grace played - then I had tears. Love that song.
Everything needs water for sure.
Momma wasn't too sure about me touching them, she kept watch. That was my idea - get them used to people.
You stay cool as well. Hope you have a great week.
My condolences on your brother-in-law. We are having a few days of nice before storms come in. I’m loving hearing the bird song in the mornings. I’m still decluttering a lot around my home. It’s amazing if you don’t declutter for sixteen years how much builds up. My childhood school friends and I all turn sixty this year, one girl had her birthday just yesterday. It’s amazing how quickly the time has flown by for all of us. I think being on the liver transplant list is going to take a bit longer than what I first anticipated from the information I received. God’s will and timing is always best. I’m continuing to make changes to reflect post surgery life, when it occurs. One thing will be to not eat uncooked or undercooked meats and seafood, so I decided to start implementing that now and am happy that sushi also comes in cooked varieties, for example. I’ve been enjoying picking out substitutes to fill in on some of the changes. Talking more about my health has opened up opportunities too, it’s always nice to say, “…and what about you?” One childhood friend will potentially need back surgery and has been experiencing great discomfort, lack of sleep, and pain. Another, an elder, has had her cancer come out of remission. So, many needs around us if we take the time to look, ask, and listen. Praying I can do. Julie V
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThe birds songs are so lovely. One f my favorite parts of morning.
Blink and time flies. You sit and wonder - how did that happen so fast! Decluttering is ongoing and never ending for me.
I am guessing you can't do a live donor transplant (using partial). I sure hope the time comes soon. SO many changes happen with different kinds of surgeries.
You are still young. I hate that you and your friends are going through all of that. But being aware of a health issue, does open one's eyes to being more receptive of others.
Many prayers for you dear. SOON!!!!
have a blessed week.
Cheryl, kind regards on the death of your brother-in-law. The fellowship at a funeral can be so sustaining. >8" of rain fell last week causing some flooding, damage to roads & flooded basements in nearby towns. More rain is expected this wk. In the words of my late father, who said this country can't grow grass. The bedding plants my granddaughter helped plant last w/e survived the heavy rains & I'm happy to report that the veg garden is starting to sprout. Grass cutting/trimming is part of the regular routine now. All garage sale items were delivered & we helped at the lodge sale on Fri morning, then enjoyed lunch at the local golf course club house. I missed a hair appt, thinking I needed to leave at noon, not BE there at noon. I hate it when that happens. One of my nieces is moving back to the area so I took supper in for the move crew. In the kitchen: roasted chicken thighs & asparagus; boxed chicken fingers w/ leftover salad; nutella cookies; lasagna & ceasar salad.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It was nice reconnecting with many folks. they have been missed.
DeleteThat is a lot of rain! Lots of things will thrive with all that water. Mosquitos included! Glad the garden is sprouting.
Sounds like a busy time has been had. Nice to provide food for the moving crew.
All sounds super.
Have a great week.
Cheryl, I hope that your sister continues to recover at home from her cardiac event. She is amazing.
ReplyDeleteVery sad about your BIL Gary. To me, 66 sounds so young but you said he has been under care for 7 years. Still, sad.
Every time you mention Pippy cat I smile. My precious cat who lived to 19 was named Pippi with an i. What fun to be able to touch Pippy’s kittens. I would find it hard to let them go.
I’ve been doing trimming in the yard (endless) and yesterday got the schefflera tree to below the roof line - for the most part. Also yesterday I finally put away all my paperwork that I’d let pile up and I’m so glad to have that done. I’m still hanging more artwork and photos on my walls, switching out frames. I had a good cry this week looking at photos from 30 years ago. I had extra keys made for my new lock. I’m trying to get everything ready for my trip in about 10 days.
You are right that each moment is a gift. Have a good day. Barbara M.
Thanks, yes she is pretty amazing. She always says - this is it - and God says nope not yet!
Delete66 sounds young to me as well. He had MD like Glen, but Gary was a small statured man, and it really hit him badly. The day Glen passed, Gary fell and broke his arm, and it steadily progressed downhill after that. They looked like Mutt & Jeff together - it was a running joke between them.
yes, it will be tough to let them go, but I can only feed so many!
I am so glad you are getting the house all in order and the way you want it. Old pictures can sure bring tears.
I bet you are excited about your trip.
Have a lovely week.
Oh, the peace that comes from having our prayers recognized and answered by the Father. You can just feel the release of tension.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your bout with poison ivy. Apparently some folks are more susceptible and suffer more with it.
Looks as if the coming week will be summer-like, with high temps and humidity. We broke down and turned on the a/c. Prefer open windows and doors, but needs must. Daybreak comes early so that would be the optimal time to go outside to work in the gardens.
So glad to hear your sister is okay. Glen's brother is free of any pain now. Anyone in their sixties seems too young to pass. My dad was 63 and my mom was 67. Too soon to let them go.
You have baby green tomatoes! Once they get going, it seems like tomato-palooza! ha! I'm going to pick Swiss chard and some leaf lettuce to sauté as a side with burgers for lunch. Have a huge bag of green onions I picked on Friday so some of those will be cooked with the greens. Still picking strawberries so that will be a sweet treat.
Bitty kitties! Those little balls of fluff are so cute. Will Mommy be spayed?
I like your garden sign. I have been looking for a "I come to the garden alone" sign but can't find one. That old hymn would be so appropriate for a garden. The Farmer has a couple small pieces of sheet metal if I can figure out what paint to use for the base. I also have some slate found at a demolished old school house. Hmmm, ideas. Always looking for ideas....
Stay cool! See you on Tuesday!
I can look at it I think and get it. Not fun! Especially when it is all over the neighborhood.
DeleteThank you. Yes, I think it is young, but that poor guy went through more than most in the past few years. So happy for his peace.
Yep, cherry tomatoes have a lot, but other have blooms.
I made some wilted lettuce for lunch today! So happy you are still getting strawberries.
Yes mam, I plan to spay her - catching her will be the problem!
Not my sign, but I thought it was neat. Maybe you can make a sign. Sounds like you have some good ideas!
I have turned on AC for small amounts of time as well.
Have a good week.
I’m so sorry about your brother in law. It’s always a difficult time even when we know it’s best. And fried green tomatoes??? I love them. I’m jealous!
ReplyDeleteThanks, yes, unfortunately death is part of life - something we can't control. But there will be a new life - and that is wonderful.
DeleteOne of my favorite things. I canned green tomato slices last year and used some of them. Tasted like fresh.
Have a blessed week.
