Hello to all and welcome to my little world. I hope this finds you all well and safe.
Yesterday was Independence Day in the U.S. and there were many celebrations which I imagine will continue into today. We had rain last night, but it did not deter people. Still lots of noise out there, maybe just not quite as loud! I was surprised that it ended earlier than in the past - so that was good.
It is a dreary and foggy morning here, feels damp. It is actually cooler this morning than it has been in a week, and I even opened a couple windows for some fresh air. Bitsy is loving that! We may have some showers today and off and on all week, but it looks like we are out of the 90's for now! YAY!
Yesterday I spent most of the days at my sisters. Things with her took a sudden and dramatic change this week, and it appears her journey and adventure on this earth is just about over. She is not good at all. She is at her little place, but it is apparent this is the end. She has a DNR and wants no external means at all to keep her alive. She hasn't taken in food for a few days, and very little fluid. I spent time there talking to her and saying my good-byes. She opened her eyes for a moment and saw me when I first got there, and very quietly whispered "my sissy". So, she knew me, but that was it. Her blood pressure is about nil (doctors are amazed she is still here), and her breathing so slow and shallow. All she does is sleep. One of her children, are staying there all the time, and taking shifts. She is soooo ready (has been), we are ready for her, it is now in God's hands. If you are inclined, please say a little prayer that she doesn't have to linger like this much longer and gets to go to her eternity 'home' very soon.My frugal week:
- I went to a birthday party on last Sunday for 2 gr.gr. nieces (6 &7) - it was a lovely family day
- I got sent home some pizza from the party - which I jazzed up later for a meal
- Changed the filter on the furnace (had one here), since using the AC so much this week
- I did run to Kroger the first of the week, just to get out. I found 16 pre-made 1/4 lb. burgers for a total of $10.80 on clearance. That is 2.70lb. or .67 a burger!
- Picked and cooked poke - YUM (amazingly surprised how good it was)
- Made a big bowl of pasta/veggie salad with things on hand
- Made half dozen hard boiled eggs
- I am getting 2 - 3 gallons of dehumidifier water a day - using in laundry and to water plants. Amazing that comes from the air we breathe! Even with the AC on
- Used the soaker hose a couple times on garden, otherwise using rain barrels and dehumid. water
- After last nights rain, the rain barrels are full again
- Had a squirrel feeding coming down, so I do go out and fix that
- Bought stamps for the future while out - before increase on 7/12
- Gnats have started again - UGH. Got out my Zevo base from last year and set it up with the inserts - had on hand (they really do work)
- My neighbor came over and brought a little gift she made me. A little cup and saucer with a nest and birdie in it. So sweet.
- My neighbors that moved to KY came for a visit on Friday. It was good to see them.
- Staying in and just cleaning and piddling around the house this week
- All meals from home and from what I have
- Picked a handful of cherry toms, 1 zucchini, and another banana pepper & poke
Meals for the past week:
Party - had pizza, bread sticks and cookie cake and ice cream
Jazzed up pizza I brought home
Cheeseburger and poke greens
Ham and cuke sandwich and pasta salad
Fried zucchini and pasta salad
Mushroom topped chopped steak, pasta salad
Cheesy brats and fries and sliced cukes & cherry toms
It appears the extreme heat wave has finally left, although it will still be hot, just not as hot. Looks to be damp this week, so hoping to get to cut grass and trim maybe Tuesday - appears to be the one dry day.
Emotions have been all over the place this week, but I have really been putting my faith to work, and that has gotten me through.
How was your week? Are you doing well? How about your gardens and plants? Any deals?
Some of you have been quiet for a while - please check in. You are missed.
I sure hope you all have a safe, healthy and happy week. Blessings to you and yours from my humble little home.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; thy are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness, "The Lord is my portion," says my soul, "therefore I will hope in him."
Lamentations 3:22-24
Dear Lord, thank You for all our blessings this week. Please help all heal our hearts and to not be petty, but to love and hope in all things. Our greatest hope and peace and freedoms are in You. You give us all eternal freedom when we come to You with our love and faith. Please place Your loving and healing hands upon all in need and guide us each one through this week. AMEN

Cheryl, kind thoughts go out to you as your sister journeys to her end. May it be peaceful. And even when we know it's coming, it's hard. You have many positives to carry you through including faith & family. And life goes on. Another 4" of rain this past wk. Many people are dealing with flooded basements & the roads are taking a beating. Some farmers haven't been able to get crops seeded. Pasture land is verdant.I was able to weed the garden after the Canada Day parade on July 1. Potatoes still need hilling. Many cherry tomatoes on the potted plant. Only garden produce so far is green onions. Peonies & cacti are blooming. It always gives me solace to see these feats of nature occur in a timely fashion. A vertigo spell lasting 2 days had me lying low. Once again I managed to cut/trim grass between rains. Even serviced the lawn tractor. Chauffeured a friend to her granddaughter's wedding party 1.5 hrs away & visited my sister. She always spent money like she had it & now she's dealing with strained finances in her retirement years. We reviewed many frugal living tips. I'm grateful for the grace in my life. Take care, Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteThank you - yes, I am hoping for all to be peaceful for her. She seems comfortable and calm.
DeleteBoy, you have had the rain! Rain sure can affect a lot of things, just not making things grow. Glad you got some weeding done.
It is pretty neat how nature has a pattern that we see year after year. Vertigo is the worst feeling.
I know many people like your friend - spent and spent, then reality hits. I even know some widows that are flying through funds now, and it will catch up to them.
Grateful for the grace in life - PERFECT way to see it.
Have a lovely week. Hopefully a dry one!
Sending prayers for peace and comfort for your sister at this time
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.
DeleteMay you have a wonderful week ahead.
Excellent devotional! We all need His loving and healing hands.
ReplyDeleteYour sister came into my mind as I was having my evening prayers and I wondered how she is doing. I pray that her journey is peaceful. You will miss her but would not want her to linger in the poor health she had at the end.
Wow, you got a zucchini and tomatoes! We have lots of green tomatoes and the zuke looks like it could bear any day. Peppers are doing well, both with fruit and blooms. The person who does not garden is missing out on so much pleasure.
We got about a half inch of rain last evening. I was hoping it would pour and shut down all the neighborhood fireworks. Jacob did not want to go out to potty. There were some but not as many. We think people just don't have the money to waste.
See you on Tuesday!
God has us all in His hands.
DeleteYes, I will miss her, but I will not miss her having all these problems and being just a vessel.
One zucchini - all the other blooms seem to be male! Cherry toms - others have them on the vine, but not close to ripening.
I agree the fresh produce is so yummy.
I was hoping the same thing - but people keep blowing up money! Seems silly to me.
Have a super week.
Hugs and prayers regarding your sister. That has got to be so tough.
ReplyDeletePoke salet, like the song, used to be real popular down here with the older generation bc it grows wild. I prefer dandelion greens for my wildness greens since I like them crunchy, and since poke can be poisonous if not cooked correctly and I don’t feel competent enough to cook it. It has a wonderful taste. I wish I had paid more attention to how the older generation cooked and changed the water out, when I was younger. I tend to stick with turnip greens and mustard greens, occasionally collards for my more domestic greens. How do you cook poke? I have googled and still feel nervous. Cindy in the South
I remember the song! First time trying them and boy they were good. I followed my brother's instructions and cooked until I had clear liquid. It grows wild all over here too.
DeleteMom used to make dandelion greens.
I cook in water to boiling a good three or four times. Once boiling, I removed and drained the water (golden) and put in new water. Again and again, until water is clear - then I added seasoning. Truly tasty. It takes time, but I know how now and could do it if things got rough and I would be very confident.
I wish I had paid attention to a lot more things when younger too.
I hope your new business is going well. Thank you for the prayers. It is hard, but I want her to be 'home' at this point. We will meet again!
Have a great week.
Sorry to hear about your sister. Was nice that she knew who you were and that her kids are taking turns. My heart goes out to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteNot as hot here today either. Might even bake later. I did get a deal at Big Lots. A small glass baker and a rod for the window. Both inexpensive with 25% store-wide to boot.
Thank you. I am glad she knew me as well. I will always hold on to that! Thanks.
DeleteGood for you - I wish we still had Big Lots around. I really liked that store.
Have a good week.
Glad your sister knew you. I hope her travels will be easy on her and the family. Not matter what, it's hard to lose loved ones. So wonderful that she is at her own home. Much nicer than a hospital.
ReplyDeleteYes, lovely day here, cooler but sunny. The big BANG BOOM stuff stopped last evening about 10:30, not too bad. Used to be, it went on until after midnight, but I think those people grew up and moved away. :D
Peace and comfort for your family.
MaryB
I am too Mary. That made me feel good that she knew I was there. I hope her travels are quick and peaceful. Yes, when she was aware - she said no hospital and surprisingly the assisted living place didn't argue. Usually they don't let you stay if you need such care.
DeleteI like it a little cooler - still pretty cloudy here. I think many moved away from here as well - so glad. It was a gentler night.
Thank you s o much. Have a wonderful week.
Prayers your sister finds her peaceful end to her journey and your family is filled with lovely memories.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I know she is very ready to take the Lord's hand and go onward. We have so much to remember about our family and blessed she made it to 95.
DeleteHave a great week.
Cheryl, your whole family is my prayers during this heart wrenching time! We are never ready for our loved one to head to their forever home but sure dont want them suffering! I pray that God's will be done. Also that you are sustained knowing she will be heading to a wonderful place of beauty in God's glory with no suffering ever again! Sending a gentle yet big hug 🫂
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Yep, she is my big sis and we have become quite close over the years. It will be a huge loss. God's will be done, I hope it is quickly for her, so she does not suffer.
DeleteHave a lovely week.
Prayers for your sister, Cheryl. Barbara M.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much. Much appreciated.
DeleteHave a wonderful week.
So comforting for both you and your sister that she knew you were there. May her passing be peaceful. Prayers for you and your family. XXXXX
ReplyDeleteI will always remember that "my sissy". I don't know what or if she heard me, but I told her so many things yesterday and told her I loved her. That is all I could do for her.
DeleteThank you.
Have a lovely week.
Reading your post stirred up a lot of emotions, Cheryl. I lost my beautiful Mum 4 years ago on the 4th of July. I knew that she was ready to go, but that did not make it any easier.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking of you both and of your wider family. X
