Frugal Happenings 7/10

Hello there my friends.  I hope you all had a great holiday week.

I, for one couldn't be happier that the 4th is over.  It was horrendous here, for 2 nights.  So many people in the area had illegal fireworks going off, it sounded like WW3!  The police won't do anything, so I have no idea why we have those laws.
My concern was for all the pets, elderly, and Vets in the area.  It had me feeling like I was losing my mind, so I can't imagine how they felt.
There are still people setting off fireworks, but they aren't as bad.

Our weather has been hot, humid and wet for a big portion of the week, then yesterday it turned lovely.  No AC yesterday or last night and none as of this writing.  The heat and humidity returns this week however.  I love these little breaks we get!!!!!

We have been getting plenty of rain for the garden, and several things are now starting to produce, at least some.  I love fresh from the garden veggies!

It has been really quiet on the home front this week.
Frugal happenings:
  • laundry in cold and line drying (have to pick the right day with no rain)
  • 2 rain barrels are full (110 gallons)
  • Eating lots of fresh veggies from the garden
  • Have been sorting, straightening, and inventorying our pantry and basement stock
  • Received about 5 dozen canning jars (almost all quart) from G's aunt and uncle.  They had a neighbor getting rid of them (free), and thought of us!  Even got about 5 blue ones!  YAY
  • Did a lot of yard work on Saturday - so free exercise
  • enjoying getting a break from the AC for a couple days and loving fresh air.
  • Biggest FRUGAL - stayed out of stores and spent NOTHING this week!!
Meals were a variety this week - some were just plain simple!
Burgers, baked beans and chips - bologna sandwiches with leftover beans and chips - garden veggies and pasta skillet and garden salad - tator tot casserole - pork chops, mac n cheese, salad - leftovers from the week and hot smoked sausages - Chinese (yes I caved and ordered out)

I was so tired Saturday night, so we ordered Chinese (G's favorite).  It has been since April since we ordered any.  This will also be our dinner tonight.

Snacks were gooey/nut biscuits (homemade), chocolate drizzle pretzel cheesecake (homemade), nuts, fresh fruit, and popcorn.

This coming week I will post again about the 3 P's and incorporate some of the things mentioned in the comments from others.

How was your week?  Give us all a shout out.
Hoping your upcoming week is safe and healthy.  May God be with and bless you all.

  1. We too are happy the 4th of July week is over. Our neighbors must have found some fireworks that they didn't use because for about an hour 9-10 p.m.Saturday they had them going off. Pretty, but the noise was setting the dogs off something terrible. We all breathed a sigh of relief when the noise ended.

It's going to be another hot and humid week in SW MO. It was a rough week around here last week, so I sincerely hope this week goes a little better. Another month and a half to go yet before the weather starts to cool down.

A couple of years ago, my husband and son live trapped about 5 raccoons which were getting in my husbands workplace and brought them out here to the farm and let them go in the woods. I guess they remembered our hospitality and the past couple of weeks have been coming back to visit the cat food pans outside. Last night, I guess there wasn't enough fresh water for them in the cat water pans and they were playing Frisbee with the water pans or something. The dogs and I heard the commotion and this morning when I went outside I had to hunt for the water pans.

    Have a great week.

    1. Kris, sorry you are having to put up with the fireworks as well. Still had them going as of last night here, but not nearly as bad or late.

Hope this week is better for and be sure to stay hydrated with this heat and humidity.

OK, I had to laugh reading your last paragraph. I could just see the raccoons playing Frisbee in my mind's eye!!!!!
You know - no good deed goes unpunished!

      Have a good week.

    1. Yes you do. He asked would I possibly use them all - and the answer was yes - even if I just can water!

  3. Well, The Good Man took the dog to camp with him and I stayed home to tend our birds...indoors and out...also got the curtains and new king sized bedspread made for the room we painted a couple weeks ago. Just the flip side of the bedroom door to stain and polyurethane and we can mount that.

TGMan needs to make the platform. The trundle is very comfortable too and will fit under the platform bed. Then I need to make two bedskirts and frame a cloth picture, hang some more lighting and the room will be FINIS!

    1. Sounds like you got a lot done this past weekend. Do it yourself decorating is so satisfying.
I bet it is just lovely.

  5. I'm with you on the fireworks. We just closed up our windows and curtains and headed back to our bedroom and watched TV. It seemed to help calm our dog since that is just part of our normal nightly routine.

Good job on staying out of the stores...that is something that I need to work on a bit more. ;) I'm so glad you got a break from the hot and humid weather. We had to break out the cuddly blankets this weekend while we were watching a movie here in the living room. We too got lots of rain and my garden is loving it!

    Be blessed!

    1. Debbie - Oh my, the cuddly blankets? It got that chilly? WOW

Now that everyone is reporting they are still having people do fireworks too, I don't feel so bad that all the idiots live here!!!!
      Have a great week.
