Posts for Dec. - a Bit of This and That

Good morning all.  I hope you are warm and safe this morning.  It is cold here.  It looks like maybe we will get above the freezing mark sometime today!  We had flurries and a dusting of snow here yesterday afternoon and evening and it stuck, because it was cold.  Many schools are on delay today, due to slick roads.

This month, posts will be of all types.  Maybe some crafts, cooking, baking, frugal, myths, spiritual, funny and maybe a memory or two thrown in.  It will be a real potpourri of things.   Tis the season!  It is a busy month for most of us, so I hope this will give a light moment to sit back with a warm drink and reflect!

I ran out for a few minutes yesterday to Kroger.  I wanted to get navel oranges before the sale ended on Tuesday evening.  They had 4 lb. bags of navel oranges for 2.49.  I am truly an orange fiend.  I love them.  This is my best time of the year to get them.  Always look for deals on citrus around Christmas if it is something you enjoy.
While there, of course I walked around and looked.  I am not a huge chicken leg lover - but a deal is a deal - and I will have several meals cheap.
(sell date was for the 4th)
I got a pack of really large legs on clearance for 2.59.  It has 14 legs.  I packaged them 2 per bag.  So IF I do eat both per meal that would be .37 per meal!!!!  If I eat one and save the other for another day - it would be less!  Sure can't beat that price.
So, keep your eyes open and get those deals when you can.  Your wallet will thank you later on!

I think this is a cute idea for neighbors, office staff, teachers, bus drivers, etc.
I am going to do something similar for a couple neighbors - maybe in a coffee mug.  Just different goodies (a little sampler), then I will wrap in saran wrap.  There is no limit to what you could include.
I am also doing a snack thing for some of the nieces and nephews (adults).  I got red and green non-stick loaf pans, very cheaply (looks like stoneware) and I am filling with a lot of snack packs and goodies for their family.  It would be a good treat for a movie evening.
There are a lot of fun ideas for gifts.  You can add something useful and then fun goodies - and it is a neat gift.  Just use a little imagination.

I wish I could say I am chilling out today - but I have plans to keep plenty busy with fun things for the holiday.  I will show and tell later in the week!

Have a wonderful day.
Whatever you put your hands to today, do it with joy and love.

    1. Thanks - that is what I thought. The pans are pretty too and the cost was very good at Ollies (plus I got a discount).
It is starting to smell good in here.

  2. I went through a tote of pretty Christmas tins that I've collected over the years and am using them to make as treat holders for gifts. It will be cute plus it will get my stash down to a manageable number. I hope you have a great day!!

  3. You always have such good ideas! The speckled loaf pan will be super cute filled with snackies.

Fabulous deal on the chicken legs. Like you, I'm not crazy about legs but that was too good a price to pass up.

Sunny today, yay! Weatherman says it will be above freezing. Another yay!

    1. Thanks - I thought so too.
I couldn't believe the price - I mean I can eat now and then and be just fine!
It is still cold out - just went out and brought up the trash container. Brrrr.

  4. I have not had any kind of citrus fruit in almost a year. I do love oranges. I also have not needed antibiotics for sinus or any upper respiratory infections. You see, I am allergic to citrus. I have been faithfully avoiding it.
Tommy will eat chicken legs, but I won't so I cook legs for him and store two to a bag.

    1. Glad I am not allergic. I just love citrus and it seems to do fine by me as well!
I am not a fan of legs - but I will eat them (especially air fried) when I need to. I can handle them all crispy no problem.

  5. I just found oranges and ruby red grapefruit at a decent price today. I love good grapefruit.
Cheryl, we crockpot chicken legs with mexican spices and the use the meat in all sort of burritos, tacos, burrito bowls and quesadillas. Cheap eats and very tasty. Freezes well also.

  6. Love your idea of the little loaf pans! I'm busy making cards and treat boxes today. It's really cold here today as well. You're so right"a deal is a deal" We're not particularly a fan of chicken legs either, but putting them into the air dryer and using making them like buffalo wings changed that. It's like the drumette part of the wing only meatier. I've also made them with Old Bay seasoning . Have a blessed day. Cookie

    1. I bet your cards and treat boxes will be a hit.
YES, I don't like regular chicken legs or wings - but fried crispy in the air frier is yum!
Hmmm - Old Bay, hadn't thought of that.
      Thanks

  7. You can use the chicken legs in soup! That's a great price you got.

Brr, cold. Just above freezing now and it'as 2:45 PM, full sun. Snow all over the place this morning and I had to go to work, so was out in it early brushing the car off. School was Remote Learning today, which must have messed with my son's schedule - but I never heard from them and was going to work myself. No ice here, but there was plenty other places. Winter is here, folks.

I put up my little Christmas tree and my creche. In the night I heard a sharp noise - something falling. In the morning I found Baby Jesus's manger bed on the floor. Fortunately Baby Jesus himself was not damaged (nor was the bed) but now I'm not sure that my placement is good. Cats... gotta love 'em. ;)

Tomorrow should be warmer. Maybe then I can use the leaf blower, I just cannot do it in the bitter cold.

    1. That is a good idea as well for the chicken. It will get ate!
Brr. They said above freezing here - but mine never got there. It was still darn cold. Sorry you had to go out in it.
Oh no, glad nothing got broke. Yes, cats - they love to swat things off tables.
Hope you get a warmer day.

  8. I have been pulling out baskets from my stash to use for the sons gifts. I did buy each of them a set of towels for the bathroom, but those were bought on sale. The rest of the little items are all handmade. I will be getting Hubby some socks and knitting him a toque. Just a token gift for under the tree.

    God bless.

    1. Good for you - using what you have. I love that. I love towels - nice ones are such a good gift. I think it is neat you are making so many things.

  9. Tip on the chicken legs -- Roast them in the oven and pull off the meat. Bag it for the freezer for use in soups, a'la king, etc. Throw all the bones in a stock pot and fill with water, maybe some celery or other veg and a bay leaf or two and let it cook for several hours. Strain the broth and either can it or freeze it for future use.

  10. Cheryl, you mentioned the weather. I live in southern Ontario and we have “cottage country” about 3 hours north of us. A town called Gravenhurst received over 4 and 1/2 feet of snow. It blanked quite an area and actually caused a main highway to be closed with many stranded people waiting over 12 hours to be able to move on. Tractor trailers were across the roads. We are used to snow but all this came in one day, so was too much for the plows to keep up with. This was quite the event. A good reminder to pack emergency supplies in the vehicles.

  11. Great deal on the chicken legs and such a low cost meal, woo Hoo! We went to .Kroger today and scored some markdowns too. And it was cold here, only 34 degrees. Already seeing some snow? I’m not surprised one bit. It’s that time of year. ⛄️

  12. Awesome deal on the chicken legs for sure! I also love oranges. I remember when I was a little girl, at Christmastime, my mama would cut a small hole in the top of one, give it little squeeze, and then put a thick King Leo peppermint stick in the hole so I could drink the juice through the "peppermint straw". It was so good! Stay warm!

  13. That’s a great deal on the drumsticks. I would do exactly as Lori suggests, roast them and strip them, then you have meat for 101 uses. Chicken and cheddar patties would probably be one of the uses requested at my house, hot chicken and gravy subs would also be popular.
My bargain of the week was some Easter theme paper napkins, 50 pack for 10 cents. I bought all four remaining packs, so I’m good for those until God calls me home. Take care, Louise
