Weekly Wrap Up 11/16

Happy Sunday to all.  Hope you are all well and safe this lovely day.
It is a cooler morning here today, in the 40's.  We sure had a couple really nice and warm days (in 70's) now we are getting back to more normal temps.  We started the week with snow and ended with 70's!  It sure is finicky.  Looks to be near normal until after Thanksgiving.  So, I am hoping we can all make our holiday trips safely.
Hard to believe we are halfway through another month!
Had one day with lots of robins in the yard again - seems when they have showed so do the starlings.  Must be just flying through.  Having robins here in my area, is not normal this time of year.  The robins took advantage and got baths in the birdbath!
Saturday there were at least 30 doves (that I could count) in the backyard, cleaning up under the feeders.
The leaves have been falling like crazy, as we have had some BIG winds!  Same for today.  At least yesterday the leaves were blowing out towards the back - just where I need them for the garden!  Nature is helping me out a little.

My frugal week:
  • My neighbor made zucchini bread and sent me a half of loaf
  • I made a bowl of banana pudding and added some already opened cream cheese to it - tasted like cheesecake!
  • Froze an ice cube tray of leftover country gravy (bagged after froze) - to use in soups and sauces in the future
  • Made a small batch of chili
  • Got the last rain barrel emptied and put away for the winter
  • Raked 2X and got all those leaves out on the garden
  • Got to air the house for 2 days and one afternoon - no heat or AC for 2 days now
  • Laundry in cold and hung to dry - sure have been having a lot of laundry for one person!!  Seems I have been washing everything in the house lately!!
  • I did get the last 3 double hung windows all cleaned - up and down and inside and out.  Did the storm doors again on outside
  • Did several small repair jobs on things around the house
  • Cleaned out the Blazer and washed all the windows
  • Made breadcrumbs and refilled my container - added some Italian seasonings too
  • I had a really long conversation with sis this week - she is doing so well.
  • I ran to Kroger to get some GC's for gifts.  They had a 4X points on GC's this week.  My FIRST gifts purchased!!!!!!  I also got some bananas (been craving) and Romaine lettuce
  • Stopped at thrift store and got 2 Boboli pizza crusts for FREE - stuck in the freezer
That is some of what happened around here this week.  Nothing big or exciting.  Just cleaning a lot - that never ends, does it?   I told sis, I seem to always be busy, yet I am not sure what all I really do.  I guess those daily chores just keep happening and we don't even think about them.

My meals this week:
Country gravy on toast, fried egg, and bacon
Open face cheeseburger topped with salad and fries
Broc cheese soup (freezer) and grilled cheese & egg sandwich
Chili and crackers - 2X              (froze remainder)
Baked beans, corn muffins stuffed with meatballs (freezer)
Red beans & rice, Naan bread and salad

How was your week?  Did you do any holiday shopping for your table or for gifts?  Find any good deals?  Love hearing from you all.

I hope you all stay safe and healthy this week.  Prayers for you and your families. Make sure no matter what life dumps on you, that you count your many blessings - big or small.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

  1. Your food sounds good. It will be up to 80 degrees or slightly above this week where I work. Glad I will be indoors! I made another round of turnip green soup, with turnip greens, carrots, diced tomatoes, leftover pinto beans, and chicken, with bullion and lots of Cajun spices.‘I almost made it too hot for me!!! Oops! I made an egg and tomato sandwich for breakfast from the volunteer tomato plant. I pulled all the tomatoes off of it and they are slowly ripening. I am taking a peach cobbler and cherry pie to my church’s early Thanksgiving lunch today. I plan to walk in my neighborhood, and, other than work, that is all I have planned for the week. Have a great week! Cindy in the South

    1. I would love 80! Your soup just sounds so good. It is so neat the things that we can put together to make such a delish meal. Have a lovely time at the luncheon.
Sounds like you have a good week to look forward to.
      Have a wonderful one!

  2. Sounds like a good week for you, Cheryl. We warmed up towards the end of the week here too and yesterday was just beautiful in the 70s. Your meals sound so good. Someone else had breakfast for dinner this week too. It is one of my favorite meals to have for dinner. That is good to have purchased your first Christmas presents. I've been working on mine too. All I really have left to buy for is Bailey now. It will be scaled back some this year, but no debt incurred, which is a good thing. I hope you have a wonderful Sunday and another good week.

    1. It was just so nice to have that lovely warm up. Thanks. Breakfast for dinner is so comforting to me.
I am trying to cut back more as well. GC's for many, with some kind of homemade goody. That will be many of the adults. They can buy what they want.
Thanks, hope you have a good week as well.

  3. Your devotional is wonderful! The Scripture is just perfect for these tumultuous days.

You have been busy! Even washed windows, which I desperately need to do. It has been nice to open up the house to air out. Soon we won't be able to do that. So happy to hear that your sister is doing well.

Enjoy this beautiful day! We are off to pick some goat kefir and mushrooms. Then work in the yard.

    1. Thank you - we all need to let things go and just be kind. What a world it would be.
Well, I had the windows open to air - and especially the tops looks awful (through the blinds) - so washing them was the answer.
It is so pretty out - cooler, but pretty. I don't see a single cloud out there.
      Have a super week.

  4. A happy weekend of singing! Friday evening, all day Saturday, and now Sunday afternoon. Lots of travel too, but it all went well. :)

It's warm outdoors - during the day. Nights are chilly. I hope it holds for a few more days, because I do love 70s with sun and cool sleeping nights.

Excellent verses from Ephesians. Thank you. Should paste that on my mirror so I see it every day.

    1. Oh how fun for you - I know you so enjoy that. It sure has been good sleeping weather. It seems I finally got the 'cover' situation figured out, and hate getting out of bed now each morning!!! It just feels 'just right' as Goldilocks would say.
      Hope your weather holds on!
Words we all need to remember.
      Have a blessed week.

    2. Agree - of all my local stores, Aldi has held their prices very, very well for the stuff I get. No complaints at all. LOOVE that store. Cranberry post coming up because each year, I dry them and it's cranberry bakes for days. So fun!

  6. Amen.
*We went to see a friend of mine from grade school known her for 63 years. She does a couple of Bazaars this time of year and I haven't been for a couple of years. So we took the day and went. Didn't get to spend a long time visiting but it sure was good to see her. I did buy a few gifts from her.
    * I'm like you on being busy but not really knowing just what you did. Always the never ending yard work. :) We were expecting company on Friday but they never made it. A relative that is elk hunting down here, so he must have run out of time to get to elk camp. Maybe we'll see him this next week.
    * I received about 10lbs of persimmons from a new neighbor. We have been sharing produce back and forth this year. We had the tomatoes and grapes and he has shared apples, figs, a lone pear as it was end of the season and the persimmons. I've never eaten a persimmon, I hope I like them.

    1. Oh how neat - those old friendships are so special. Neat that you got at least a little visit, and you found some gifts too!
It seems there is always something, and if we say there isn't, well, we are kidding ourselves!
Sorry your company didn't make it - maybe you will get to visit this week.
10 lbs. of persimmons is a lot! Mom used to make persimmon pudding - I do miss that. It was almost cake like and she put some kind of glaze on it. Haven't had that in years. I think we all enjoyed that. My sis that is passed, used to make some kind of jam from them, canned it and sold it. It was a big hit in her small town.
Hope you like them. That is quite the gift.
      Have a super week.

  7. Glad sister is doing better. I struggle to keep up but keep pushing thru. To get important things organized for dh to take over. I am back taking treatment s since my cancer is back. I’m doing well if the neuropathy in my hands would be better. Only side effect so far. Anyone have suggestions how to deal with neuropathy. I did get out and help family cut down a tree. I was more the director lol but enjoyed fresh air and family. Look forward every week to your blog. Take care. Joyce pa

    1. I am sorry you are struggling. I hate that you have to go through treatments and all that again. I wish I had an answer to help your hands - hopefully someone here can help.
Glad you got outside - the fresh air is so good for you and sunshine when you can get it.
Thank you so much. Here's hopes that all goes well and you get healed.
      Have a lovely week.
