Weekly Wrap Up 11/23

Hello to all and happy Sunday.  I hope you are well and safe.
Here we are starting the last week of this month already.  Soon we will be starting the last MONTH of the year!  It is just hard for me to wrap my head around this.
We have had all kinds of weather this week.  Luckily no snow!  We have had warm days, chilly days, lots of rain, fog, wind and basically one sunny day.  It sure was nice to see the sunshine.
We got a LOT of rain on Tuesday.  Showers a time or two after that.
Most leaves are down now - you can see small spots of color.  They trees are pretty bare.  The grass is very green - that is about the only color now (besides brown).
Looks like turkey day will be colder - but no snow or rain (as of now).  I can handle that.
THANK YOU - to Donna and to Cookie for the lovely Thanksgiving cards!  So appreciated.

Just a fun thing to tell.  My gr.gr. nephew signed his intention letter this week for a full ride scholarship for college for his baseball prowess.  So very proud of him.

This week has been a normal kind of quiet week.
My frugal week:
  • Using up leftovers and things in frig
  • Raked on Monday before the rains came.  Tuesday afternoon you sure couldn't even tell!  So many maple leaves fell from the heavy rain and wind.  I did go out yesterday and got a bunch more raked up.  You can SEE the grass again!  Literally you could not see the grass or sidewalk.  All leaves out on the garden now.  I keep finding huge oak leaves while raking.  There are no oak trees close by - I notice all trees when walking.  The wind sure does carry a lot of things from a distance.
  • Cleaned the trapped leaves in the drive as well.  They blow and swirl between the car and the house.  All clean now.
  • Trimmed my hair
  • Ran errands one day.  Bank (gifts & my allowance), feed store and Ollies
  • I got a couple kiddos gifts and some basket fillers at Ollies and used my 15% off coupon
  • Cooked up chicken for use in a couple meals
  • Froze leftover enchilada sauce in ice cube trays
  • Froze 1/2 a pizza for another time
  • Laundry in cold and hung to dry
  • Just basic cleaning and doing all the normal things
  • Cooking and eating from home
  • NO grocery store this week
Meals this past week:
Homemade enchiladas (filled w/leftover beans & rice)
Homemade pizza
Tuna patty sandwich w/cheese/lettuce/tomato, banana milkshake
Enchilada and side salad
Chicken/veggie fried rice
BBQ pulled chicken/cheese open face sandwich and salad
Cheesy fries and salad

Nothing fancy this week as far as meals go.  Just easy and basic things.  Using up items.
Yesterday as I stood outside after raking, I was looking all around.  You can sure see ALL the squirrel nests around now.  I can see trees for quite a distance in all directions and stopped counting at 30 nests!  It is amazing how those critters survive and how industrious they are.

I hope you are all ready for Thanksgiving.  Just remember you can have and do whatever works for you - you don't have to be traditional at all.  I will be going to my nieces for dinner that day, riding with my brother/SIL.
Did you get any deals this week?  Now is the time to get deals at the grocery.  Do anything exciting?

I hope you all have a wonderful week and that you all stay safe and healthy.  I will be posting Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday this week.  If any of you are traveling away from home, safe travels.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make his face to shine upon you, and to be gracious to you;  The Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.
Numbers 6:24-26

Thank you, Lord, for all our many blessings.  Please continue to hold us each in Your loving and protective embrace.  Heal those who need healing, whether in body, mind or soul.  Please keep our friends and family safe this week and let us each be so very thankful for all we have.  We are truly blessed.
Through You all blessings flow.  AMEN

  1. The 4 cords of wood is stacked & I'm enjoying the wood fire. It's part of the winter routine - clean the ashes, bring in the wood, fill the wood box, do the kindling. 11 doz pyrogies were made for the freezer awa mushroom turnovers. The oven was cleaned & outdoor Christmas lights set out - twig lights & a star for the deck railing, waiting to be lit up Dec 1. I got to watch my granddaughter play ringuette last w/e, a good opportunity to meet up with family. Weather has been relatively mild here in NE Alberta. My neighbor's AWD car made it through the wet snow last Wed & we attended a seniors' Christmas dinner sponsored by FCSS (Family & Community Support Services). My 4x4 truck should be fixed next week. I've been participating in a bereavement support group, helpful with the coming holiday season. There was a coffee chat with a friend after a 2 mi walk. In the kitchen: baked beans on toast; bean & bacon soup; sourdough noodles w/ mushroom & onion sauce; taco salad; lasagna from the freezer; beef & greens. Enjoy your Thanksgiving celebration, Cheryl.

    1. That is a lot of work, Mona, I'm impressed!

I cleaned out the woodstove and found a dead flying squirrel in there. Poor little thing had come down the chimney and died. Laid a new fire for next time.

Most of our leaves are down, but the wind has blown them back onto my porch and lawn. Maybe this afternoon is Leaf Blower time again.

Went to local stores (where daughter-in-law is not likely to shop) to find a Christmas gift. Up and down the streets, every shop, all full of stuff (junk, tourist tat) that I can't really imagine *anyone* wanting. The shop I found things in for previous years is gone. Came home empty handed, and that means I'll have to look further this coming week, as I try not to shop between Thanksgiving and Christmas, it's just such a circus then.

    2. MONA - that is a lot of hard work. Amazing. It sure is the time to get those outside lights up and ready. The next few days here, will be perfect if not done already - after T Day it will be cold.
I bet the dinner was nice. It is that time of the year that many people have extra emotional problems - nice to have groups and people willing to help.
      Food all sounds good.
Thanks - you have a super week.

    3. MARY - you worked hard too. Poor little squirrel. The leaves sure do make a mess and that wind doesn't help. Nice to find things at places your family doesn't normally shop. Good luck.
I won't go out on good Friday at all - but I will have to shop more before Christmas. Like you I try to go to smaller places.
      Have a beautiful week.

  3. Enjoy your Thanksgiving, Cheryl!

A big congrats to your gr. gr. nephew on his baseball scholarship. My very good friend’s husband grew up dirt poor, never knew his father, but was excellent in basketball and that was his ticket out of poverty that allowed him to become an accountant and later help his mom as well as his own family.

I put up a shelf in my second bathroom and also a basket wall hanging made by my mom. But in bed that night I started worrying it wasn’t secure so I took it down. Next day I bought some spackling and I already had the wall paint so I moved the shelf to a different wall where it would be safer, reinforced the hanging devices and then moved the basket to the first wall.

Between the bathroom with the new shower and the adjacent room, I want to add a wooden threashhold. I bought one online that is the correct width and height but too long. (I knew this when I ordered it.) I’ll decide whether to buy a saw and try cutting it myself or ask the shower guy when he returns if he can help me or maybe ask at Home Depot or last resort ask a neighbor. I try to be self sufficient.

Finally put together sliding shelves for under my kitchen sink. I ordered them when I first moved in but the instructions looked complicated. But when the shower guy was working, I decided to tackle it. Turned out great!

Checked my freezer and it is set at 0 F. And similar to your idea, Cheryl, I decided to turn off the ice maker. I don’t use that much ice and it takes up too much space. I have two plastic ice trays from my old house.

    1. Thank you - I am so proud of my nephew. He works so hard and is a terrific player. He wants to be a doctor someday - I sure hope it happens for him.
It sounds like you are enjoying the decorating. I usually have changed my mind several times. Good for you on trying to do things yourself. hey gal, I have a lot of tools for ME! We can do anything.
Nice on the shelves. Good for checking the freezer. I have never used the ice maker i my frig. Just use trays. I just see it as something that can grow bacteria. I use a lot of ice - but just make it myself.
      Have a lovely week.

  4. Love the bracha (blessing)! We watch Rabbi Greg from Shalom Macon and he offers this bracha to his congregation at the end of his derasha (sermon). We need to count our many blessing, name them one by one. Always loved that old hymn.

Congratulations to your gr-gr nephew! Wow, what an accomplishment!

It's interesting to see all the nests in the trees when the leaves are gone. We need to clean out the birdhouses while they have all gone to warmer climes.

Did I tell you that I met a 100 year old woman at the Costco pharmacy? If I live to be that old, I hope that I'm in as good shape as she. We met a lovely lady at the dentist's office who has a Down Syndrome son. She and Gary talked Scriptures while Walter was getting his teeth cleaned. There are countless blessings out there...just open your heart. Just like the ladies who comment on your blog, all blessings.

BTW, did you say you cleaned out the Autumn Joy sedum after they bloomed?

    Enjoy your Turkey Day!

    1. It is such a beautiful blessing from out Lord.
Thank you, we are so proud of him. He is quite the athlete.
How wonderful for that lady to be in such good shape. If healthy, I want to be around until 100! Yes, so many things to be thankful for. Many are just random things, but blessings all the same.
You gals are all blessings to me. You all have so much to offer and so much love to give.
Yes, I took it back to the ground. I do this every year. Comes down easily.
Thanks - you too. Have a great week.

  5. That is exciting news about your gr.gr. nephew getting a full ride scholarship for college! So neat.
Many of our leaves have fallen now too, still some left, but the majority have fallen already. We can see the squirrel nests now too and also the mistloe, which grows up high in the trees here and doesn't die over winter.
Your dinners sound good, we did enchiladas this week too. Using up what we have like you're doing. I'm keeping Thanksgiving simple this year like last year. I hope you have a very blessed Thanksgiving, Cheryl.

    1. Thanks - so proud of him.
I would love to see mistletoe growing. How neat. That and bittersweet - something I just love.
I just hate waste - so trying to be inventive. hey, I even used black olives on top like Taco Bell! They really do add to the taste.
I will make a turkey breast on Friday - but will keep it simple.
You guys will have a wonderful time no matter what you serve.
Thank you - have a lovely week.
