Hello all. Hope you are all well and good.
It is a lovely start to the day here in my area. It is currently 59* according to my thermometer. Much better than freezing temps! May get close to 80* today. Good day to work outside for sure.
Everything is getting so pretty outside. Green is now the color of the week! Flowers are all popped up (perennials). The Vinca vine out front is flowering now - little blue/violet flowers. Lots of dandelions and violets everywhere. Weeds are thriving as usual!! Seems nothing keeps them down.
I was watching the crazy squirrels yesterday in the tree. I mentioned that they love the little pods/twirlers from the maple tree. They are so funny. They go to furthest out fringes of the branches to get them.
See that goofball hanging on the fragile little branches hanging down. (mid picture). Now mind you the pods are laying all over the yard - but noooooo - got to make it exciting!!! LOLLicorice has never come back home. He was last seen on 2/28. I sure do miss that boy. There are lots of cats being seen that I have never seen before. Not babies, but adult cats. I mean I find odd that all of a sudden there are so many different ones just roaming around. They all look healthy - so getting fed somewhere.
I still have Momma, Persi (came back and decided it likes to live here (all healed)), and Pip and Squeak (the young-ins) outside. Those 4 are getting better, as they come to greet me each morning and don't hide anymore. I still can't pet them, but it is getting better - they know I bring FOOD, so they get closer and closer!!!! A couple others come by for a bite now and then - but they are regulars in the neighborhood. Yep, seems I am the cat lady! LOL
Of course there is Bitsy inside! My buddy.
Now that the major threat of freeze is over here, I think I will be hanging the hummingbird feeders today. I have heard rumors that a few have been sighted as far north as our city. I want to be ready when they show. There isn't a lot to feed on naturally yet, so they need the nectar.
I keep noticing more and more blogs I read are talking about using up the oldest items they have in the freezers and pantries - I just love it. I am trying to get the older items out of the freezer as well - now I do buy new when I find a deal - but rotation is so important. Sure don't want to trash good food - that is like throwing away $$.
Guess I best get busy. I hope you have a lovely day.
Look for all the good things and be happy.
Stay joyful and smile.
I'm sorry you still haven't seen Licorice, that is the hard part of taking care of outside cats. Heartbreaking when they disappear. We don't have many stray cats around our house, but our yard is fenced in so maybe I just don't see them. Have a great weekend!!
ReplyDeleteIt is the hard part. You get so used to them being around and then poof they are gone. It would just be nice to really know. I still think good thoughts for him.
DeleteHave a good one.
I've not seen Tommy Cat for many months now, but I still look for him. Haven't seen any other stray cats lately, but... the coyotes are probably hungry and that's what happens here. Sorry about Licorice. I lost my Blackie that way and I still mourn for him, he was one special cat. Still have Ally indoors which is a comfort.
ReplyDeleteLove the celery rooting. Saved your pic and your explanation. I'll share with my son for his boys. :) I remember my dad doing the same with Carrot tops.
No hummers here yet, and the azaleas are in full bloom. I'll get out the feeders this weekend just in case.
Be well!

I still look for Licorice as well, so I understand. Oh how terrible to think about coyotes. Nothing like that here, but there are other critters around. Ally is lucky to have you too. They sure are a comfort.
DeleteIt would be a fun 'science' kind of project for kiddos. I still remember the thing we did with flowers and leaves in a vase of food colored water. Watching things change color.
I haven't seen a hummer either, but have heard they are returning now.
Well, I hope Licorice found a new and cozy home. Sounds like your other outdoor family is doing very well. Brenda Pruitt at Cozy Little House1 lives in a neighborhood in Tulsa that the residents actively help the homeless cats. Is there anyone else in your neighborhood who feeds and maybe adopts the kitties? For some reason we don't seem to have stray cats. Crazy squirrel, hanging off the tree branch! He was determined to get the treat off the maple tree.
ReplyDeleteThe day looks to be nice and sunny. It would be a good day to put out the hummingbird feeders. The gardening seat I have had for years finally began to fall apart. Suncast still carries the same one so I ordered it and will take it for a spin today. Speaking of outdoor stuff, my umbrella clothesline fell over as the metal post had rusted and broken off. The Farmer found a piece of metal pipe that the original pole will fit into and he will cut it so I can reach the lines. Saved major $$$.
Enjoy your weekend! It is so good to turn off the furnace and open up the house.
I hope so too. He loved my 'cooking', but maybe got tired of all the other cats showing up. There is a lady down the alley a ways that gives shelter and food - sort of a colony house. I have wondered down that way to look, but haven't seen him.
DeleteEnjoy the new garden seat. How great your husband figured out a fix of the line for you. I wondered about a fix like that, when you first mentioned it broke. Smart feller!
It is wonderful to not have to pay for heat!!! Love my fresh air.
Like Cali, the calico that wanders by sisters, she was missing for weeks so I was happy to see her Easter Sunday when I picked up sister for dinner. My sister leaves a cannister out and fills bowls daily, my job when I take care of her cats. Food is just too expensive to waste. I love getting new ideas.
