Hello and happy Sunday to all wherever you may be. I am hoping this finds you well and safe.
Can you believe we are half-way through May? Seems kind of crazy to me.
We are starting to warm up more, and we have had rain. The past 2 days we had rain (nice rain here), and it sure makes things look different. Yesterday was pretty much an entire rain day. It was a lazy day!
It sure felt chilly due to the rain. This morning it is already close to 70* and partly cloudy.
My frugal week:
- Helped the neighbor fix a couple of spots of broken slats in their wooden fence. Goodness, they had no idea what to do, even though there was a pile of wood sitting there to use!
- Pulled and cut a lot of weeds and poison ivy
- Got the garden all tilled up
- Spent one day planting and decorating the front flower garden
- Mowed everything
- Picked and picked peonies - constantly changing out flowers inside - gosh, I love the smell so much
- Used flowers with dropping petals for a big bowl of potpourri - just because they drop petals doesn't mean they don't smell. Cut off the stems and place in bowl
- Made a bowl of bean salad for munching on
- Made foil packet meal - made 2 meals
- All meals from home and using what I have
- Got the garden all planted! I swear it looks like the plants have almost doubled in size with all the rain
- Laundry - used dehumidifier water in laundry and line dried
- I did a run to the store for more cat food - boy they eat a lot. I also got 5lbs. of Pink Lady apples for $5 (sure are good, never had those before). Found a bunch of Big Wheel cars in packages on clearance for .33 each! Got stocking stuffers!
- I did manage a couple porch sits and a few walks and picking up trash (most days tired from yard work)
- Just doing all he regular things
Meals this past week:
Piece of chicken, fries and steamed broccoli
Tuna patty, corn on cob, salad
Cheddar, bacon, ranch baked potato
Packet meal - meatballs, potato, carrots, corn
l/o packet meal
Creamy rice & beans soup (freezer) and crackers
Hard shell tacos
SNACKS: fruit, bean salad, cheese slices, toast
Things sure do wear me out faster as I get older. Seems like many things take a day now, that took just a couple hours before! LOL - Just glad I can still do things.
I do feel happy to have the garden in. It isn't huge by any means but will provide a lot of good eats for me and probably some neighbors.
How was your week? What has everyone been up to? I always like hearing what everyone is doing.
Give us a shout-out!!!
I hope you all have a super week ahead, and that you get to accomplish all that you desire. Hope you all stay safe and healthy.
Blessings to you and yours form me at my humble little home.
*********************
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Jesus Christ. To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen
Lord we humbly come to You in thankfulness in all the blessings and gifts that we received this week. We know that all we have and need can be supplied by You, we just need to put all faith and ourselves in Your hands. I pray each one reading this finds God in their lives. May we each spread Your word and offer the love that You give us. AMEN

I don't know if I've ever been the first to comment. I'm usually one of the last! You had a busy week! I'm sure your neighbor appreciated your help and know-how on the fence. Pink Lady apples are one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteWe had planned on doing some gardening yesterday, but we had rain in the morning, so we are doing it today. I got my errands done yesterday morning and did some batch cooking in the afternoon. I cooked up all the ground beef we bought and portioned it out into meals in the freezer, except one. That will be for tacos this week. I also made a potato soup for when we get hungry today. I even made my breakfast for this morning, overnight oats. Have a great week, Cheryl! Darcy
Yay! First and hopefully not the last.
DeleteI was a little busy - it just seems each thing takes up most of a day! The apples are wonderful - I had never had before. I love a crisp apple and they sure are crisp.
The rain yesterday, put quite a damper on most things. Sounds like you got much accomplished though. Good for you on the batch cooking. Makes life so easy.
Have a lovely week.
You were busy! I was too.... with two meals out, most unusual. I'll be happy to get back to meals at home. I've eaten more than I really wanted or needed this week. :D
ReplyDeleteGot some letters in the mail! Such fun to hear from people who are far away and from folks who don't mess with computers.
Worked a bit in the garden, but the pollen is still thick and it's hard to stay working out there with nose and eyes just dripping all over.
My peonies don't bloom as much as yours, Cheryl, proably because I haven't as much sun. And we've had no rain to speak of. There was in inch a couple weeks ago. That's all.
Enjoy this lovely time, spring is so beautiful!
MaryB
Wow, 2 meals out - that is a lot for you. I think some weeks all I do is eat, then I pay for it!
DeleteMail doesn't happen a lot anymore. I like getting letters. You are right, most just use the computer.
I can't imagine the pollen being that bad. It is bad enough here, some of you guys get it bad.
My peonies were just gorgeous (slowing down) and I sure enjoy them. They are in full sun - so they really do bloom. It is a beautiful and lovely spring!
Have a blessed week.
Hi MaryB, I have noticed in my area that the mail seems to be running slower. It recently took eight days to deliver a piece of mail that came from only three hours from me. My mail prescription pharmacy is no longer using regular mail for deliveries also due to timely delivery issues.
DeleteI had put in my two week notice at work and Friday was my last day. I am going to open up my own practice sometime in June so I have been busy with that. I also went to Aldi and bought a bag of gala apples for $1.99, blackberries for $1.99, bagels for $1.99, a frozen pizza for $1.99, an English cucumber for 95 cents, little grape tomatoes for $1.99, pepitas for $1.50, an avocado for 55 cents and something else I can’t remember. I then went to Dollar General next door and purchased for $1 Awesome dishwashing detergent, and the milk I forgot to get at Aldi.. lol. I twisted my knee walking yesterday so I am hobbling around the house, hopefully it will get better. I am cleaning my trainwreck of a house, which I had been neglecting. Your food sounds great! Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteCindy - this is so exciting! I'm thrilled for you. (Hawaii Planner)
DeleteCindy that is fantastic. What type of practice will you have? How cool to be your own boss. Enjoy your time off for a while and get some rest.
DeleteYou got some really good deals - decent prices for sure.
Hopefully you knee will be feeling better quicky. Don't over do it.
Have a fantastic week.
Good morning Cheryl, You sure had a full week. This next week is going to be relatively quiet one no Dr. appts. Yea! They sure break up your days. Yesterday we had our nephew here to trim trees that are too high for Butch to get on the ladder for and he cleaned the gutters too. I planted up some flower pots, I pray they do well. We got some of the tomatoes in, will plant more today. I have cucumbers and zucchini to plant too. I have been picking my peonies and roses too. Pink ladies are a yummy apple. I was able to get oranges and pineapples to add to the pantry this week. Today we will have a dump run to get rid of all the tree trimmings. I think it might rain. I think I need a nap. Have a blessed day! ;)
ReplyDeleteIt did seem full - only cause it just takes longer to do things now!
DeleteNice on the tree trimming and gutter cleaning. I pretty much have everything planted for now (I think). Your flowers and plants always do well and look pretty, so I am sure these will too. Don't the peonies just smell so good? I need to start on picking roses now.
Good going on oranges and pineapple. So nice to have fresh fruit on hand.
Nice to have a place to get rid of rubbish - hope you get your work done before rain hits.
Have a beautiful week my friend.
The Victoria Day w/e, which marks the commencement of summer here, snuck up on me. The garden has not been planted thanks to 2" of rain/snow combined & a faulty garden tiller. The fixes I could manage did not help the tiller or mower so I found a Mr. Fix It to hopefully remedy the problems. One comment I read on line - if you have to ask where the carburetor is, it's obvious you don't know what your're doing! I participated in the Seniors' Centre Without Walls exercise program x 3 awa writing for fun. I enjoyed lunch & scrabble with a friend. The local assisted living home hosted a volunteer bbq with entertainment. Fun. Where would communities be without volunteers? There was a visit from the neighbor little & her mom, always a treat. In the kitchen: Italian sausage skillet; saurkraut soup (shared with my cousin); apricot loaf; roasted trout w/ rice; bean salad; GF peanut butter cookies; egg salad. Have a good week, Cheryl & all.
ReplyDeleteSorry you didn't get the machinery to work yourself. Years ago I called Mr Fix It - had forgotten about them. I guess they are all over.
DeleteHopefully everything gets fixed and doesn't cost and arm and a leg to fix and your can get on with life. Holidays do seem to sneak up on us sometimes.
I love that so many volunteer - it sure makes a lot of lives better. Sounds like you had some fun experiences this week. How nice. Your meals all sound good.
Have a great week!
Excellent devotional! He does know our needs and provides. If a person does not have God in their life, that leaves a huge gap in her daily activities and her eternity).
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing you know how to do several things! Some folks struggle with repairs for a variety of reasons. There is great satisfaction in caring for what the Master has given us. No wonder you are a bit weary...you had a busy week! Some jobs are still pretty easy on the old body, others take the starch out. Knowing one's limit is key.
Today looks to be pretty nice to work outside. The rain(s) we had sure perked up all the plants, veg, trees, and flowers. I will peg some laundry on the line soon. Tomorrow calls for rain so I want to get some outdoor stuff done. Can always work on indoor projects (which are plentiful!) when it is raining.
Enjoy your day! See you on Tuesday!
Yes mam, we are nothing without God.
DeleteI learned early on - pay attention when things are getting done. Also it helps to have a fair amount of common sense!! Seems like is lacking a lot today. There isn't much I won't try and do - and really working on knowing those limits.
It was a physical week - which is what seemed so tiring.
It is so pretty out. I have been out and about the yard, done one walk already, and porch set for a while and it is 12:30!
I just love this time of the year.
Have a fantastic week.
You were very busy, Cheryl, especially in the yard. Good job! My biggest accomplishment for the week was using the new metal screws and nuts I bought to fix my mailbox more securely. So far I have not had to retighten the screw when I open and close the box. Success.
ReplyDeleteI continued to work in the yard trimming and I’m making good progress. The Florida gardenia that was badly damaged 18 months ago in the hurricane is in full bloom and smells amazing. Finally I remembered to put out the rain gauge. No rain so far this week but we may get some this evening.
On Wednesday I treated my cousin to lunch at Chicken Salad Chick for her birthday. She has lost a lot of weight and is eating healthier. We had a good visit.
Instead of buying a newly-published book I wanted, I checked the library website and one library had it on order so I reserved it for delivery to my local library. I picked it up on Thursday.
For my upcoming trip I ordered new shoes and a packable rain jacket. Also I bought the train tickets I’ll need and the airport bus ticket. (I had previously bought a senior rail card to save 33% on the train tickets.) I’m trying to pay as much ahead of time as possible.
Got my electric bill - $61.31. Not bad at all since I’ve had my a/c on all month set at 78 F. It is 88 to 90 F. most days here now. Barbara M.
Success on the mailbox! Mine still has a bungy cord around it!!
DeleteI bet that is so pretty - that is my sister's favorite flower - gardenia. Hope you get some rain.
How nice on the lunch. I bet that was yummy. Smart thinking on the book. I mean, usually we only read a book once, unless it is a self help type book.
Smart thinking to get things ahead of time for a trip - it just may save money too - it will sure save aggravation.
WOW - great on electric bill. I am glad it hasn't really been AC weather here yet. It sure is nice not having to have heat or AC.
Have an awesome week.
I am currently on a gardening hiatus. We were working in the raised garden beds and from down in the soil came a big garter snake (thank goodness it was the one my husband was working on). I noped it out of there and told him he has to be the one sticking his hands down in there from now on, so that seriously limits garden time.
ReplyDeleteI found several good free books and a couple of DVDs at a free little library thing. I got free seeds, a candle for mother's day, and books at the library. I got good clearance on coffee, straws, Cheez-Its, and Bisquick.
There were free local concerts going on featuring tribute bands for AC/DC, KISS, and local bands. My husband took my oldest and they had a blast. We told him it was his reward for doing good in school this year and getting his class's good character award.
I can't blame you - I do not like snakes. A garter I could tolerate more than others - but just don't want to be around them.
DeleteWow, what a good freebie and deal week for you. Neat on the free concerts. It is about time for the park to start having them here. Congrats to your oldest!
Have a special week and a NO snake one as well!
That is a great deal on the Hot Wheels and pink lady apples. I love how plants practically double in size after a good rain. I hear you on how much cats eat, ours are the same way. Sounds like a good week for you.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, I couldn't believe the deal on Hot Wheels. I was looking at some for .48, and another lady told me the whole cart full she was at was cheaper - sure enough!
DeleteKroger has those 5 lb. bags for $5 each week - usually 2 or 3 different kinds. I hadn't bought any but thought I would give the Pink Ladies a try. A win for sure.
I have 4 outside - but more come and eat - so I am not sure how many feed. Geesh!!!
Have a great week.
I just completed another hospital stay. Many changes are occurring some easier, some more difficult. Turns out I need a liver transplant so continued prayers are appreciated. I am so blessed with my faith to have His assurance no matter what I face. We certainly all have our mountains and valleys that we walk or will walk through. I am excited that someone else will have the joy of a thrift find with some of the things I will now be donating and that it can bless them. And since I will not potentially be able to garden in soil in the future due to low immunity/soil bacteria I hope to enjoy more of our lovely parks, Farmer’s Markets, public gardens… and there will be some preserving equipment to pass along as I will no longer be planting my huge vegetable patch. This coming week my focus will be on improving my health and completing tasks with some of these changes and continuing my frugal journey with hopes of blessing others. Julie V
ReplyDeleteOh Julie I am sorry to hear this news. I have known some folks that got a liver transplant and some with kidney transplants. They are all thriving now. The Lord gives us a lot of trials that is for sure. This is a big one for you - but you will get through it. I always love looking at donating that way - that you are blessing someone else.
DeleteYou have such a wonderful attitude about things and love that if not gardening, you have other ways to be getting and giving. There is so much in this world to be thankful for and so many things we can do - we just need to open our eyes. You surely have prayers for all that you will be enduring, and God will give you strength and grace.
Have a lovely and blessed week, and PLEASE keep us informed.
