Hello and happy Sunday to all. I hope you are all well and safe.
Hard to believe that we are already on the last Sunday of the month! Man, this month flew by.
It is a muggy morning here and a little overcast. Truthfully, I wouldn't mind if it stayed overcast all day - as it will help with heat. Today is supposed to be in the mid 80's, but most of the week will be 90's. I guess it is time! I feel sorry for all in other countries that are experiencing a lot of heat (and some here) that have no AC. It truly amazes me that it is not something everyone has.
Friday and yesterday we did have some showers off and on. The grass is sure green and things are growing. Thankfully no storms here. The southern part of the state sure has had a lot of rain this week. Inches!!
I have been hearing cicadas at night now. there are so many lightening bugs. I still haven't seen any mosquitos, but boy, do we have flies! There are so many flies. It is hard to go in or out, without them trying to get in.
Notice the squirrel (upper left) sitting on the chair waiting for me to leave! It sees a fresh snack at hand!!! LOLMy frugal week: (again quiet)
- On Sunday I gifted my neighbor some grilling utensils I had. I got them as a gift a couple years ago and no longer have a grill. He is hardly ever home with the family (works a lot), so seeing him BBQing made me happy. He was thrilled
- More weed pulling and cutting when I could. Did a big fence clean-up on one side again (grrr).
- Did get mowed and trimmed between rains and when cooler
- Made hummer feed again - they sure are drinking a lot!
- NO grocery again - stayed home all week
- Laundry, used dehumidifier water, and line dried
- Also laundered all throw rugs and furniture throws
- Picked roses
- Put together a jar of mint (future extract)
- Made a jar of opal basil vinegar
- Rain barrels are full
- A few walks
- Was sitting out on the porch Friday enjoying the rain and noticed that a gutter was overflowing on the porch roof. It really bothered me - so I got gloves and climbed on the porch chair and cleaned it out - flowing nicely now! Must have been old leaves, old bird nests and just gunk (there was a big blockage right before the downspout)
- Picked 3 banana peppers and lettuce
- I have cleaned and cleaned 'dust bunnies' - boy those things really are appropriately named! So many - and they are everywhere under and behind stuff
- Have the AC set pretty high - using just to remove humidity from house - house stays pretty cool - also have dehumidifier going downstairs
Meals this past week: (easy)
Rice and beef tacos (leftover rice)
Flat bread pizza (bread from freezer)
Breaded okra, chicken strips, cherry toms
Egg rolls (freezer) and scrambled eggs
Pintos and ham (freezer) and wilted lettuce
Nachos
Stuffed portobello mushrooms (mushrooms from freezer) (stuffing - nacho meat)
So there you have it, a quiet week for me. I did keep busy, but nothing too strenuous - just busy work. There is always busy work!
Friday while I was on the porch, it was raining nicely (not blowing) and it was so relaxing. Not another soul to be seen outside, very little traffic and so enjoyed just listening to the rain and the birds. That is what it is all about to me.
How was your week? I hope no one had any damage from storms - there were many again this past week. Did you get any deals? Using what you have? Gardens?
Prayers that you are all safe and healthy and hoping you all have a wonderful week ahead.
Blessings to you and yours from my humble little home.

When pride comes, then comes disgrace; but with the humble is wisdom.
Proverbs 11:2
Dear Lord, thank You again for all our many blessings, and for Your never-ending love. Please help us each to remember to stay humble and kind, that we may be able to give someone else a little joy each day. We appreciate all that we have, but please help us to stray from being prideful. We are blessed and we are loved. Thank You. AMEN
Another 3" of rain this past wk! It's remarkable in this area of NE Alberta that a friend refers to as the "dust bowl". The garden needs weeding but it's too wet to get in there. Dry weather with some heat is needed. The early part of the wk was filled with busy work around the car purchase which is now parked out front. The highlight of the week was attending my oldest granddaughter's high school graduation. I look forward to see where the world takes her & where she takes the world. She will be starting a recreation therapy program in the fall. I'm looking forward to a quiet week after the hubbub of the last 2. In the kitchen: lentil soup; roast pork w/ veg; pasta salad. Have a good week, Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteYou have really had your share of rain! Hope you get some dry time soon.
DeleteGlad you got the car and that is all done. Congrats to your granddaughter - the world is her oyster!
Hope you get a quiet week and maybe a little yard work in!
Have a great one.
For your jar of mint extract I would very, very, very much love to hear/learn more about that if you have the time to make a post. It sounds like something I'd enjoy a great deal.
ReplyDeleteLove that you gave him the grilling tools. Love that.
It is really easy - I will do a post next week on that. I love finding uses for things around home.
DeleteHe was thrilled and thanked me for his 'father's day' gift!!! He is much younger than me! LOL
Have a super week.
We are having rain showers and looking at temps in the 90s later this week. I pray for rain showers next weekend as we have idiots who do fireworks for days around the 4th of July - and we live in the woods. So, fear of fire. I've seen plenty of mosquitoes and no-see-ums are everywhere. No flies (yet), and no lightning bugs (yet) but ladybugs and ladybug babies. Lots of ants trying to check out my indoor spaces, tiresome. Especially they seem to favor cat food. Ally needs to clean her plate at once or someone else will!
ReplyDeleteThat Bible quote is excellent. Seems like Pride and Envy are two big trippers for people, so watch your step! :)

Oh my gosh you sound like me - I hope for rain next weekend as well!!! They have been doing them already - but not nearly as bad as the past. I heard a poor guy the other night, after an exceptionally loud boom - yell at the top of his lungs "God, please stop it, please stop". It about broke my heart - his voice sounded close to tears. So many have such problems with fireworks and other just don't care. Fire would be a scary worry.
DeleteLots of ants around here too - I keep the outdoor cats food in a bowl placed in a pan of water - ants don't cross water.
Yes mam, pride and envy can make any man/woman fall from grace!
Have a beautiful week.
Excellent devotional! Pride is our enemy. The Father hates pride.
ReplyDeleteYep, dust bunnies seem to breed just like real rabbits. ha! With gardening and weeding in full swing, the house is getting the short end of the stick. Lots of dust bunnies and "dead men" all over the house.
So glad your neighbor fell heir to your grilling tools. I'm sure he will use them frequently. You saw a need and filled it.
Fireworks are the bane of the neighborhood. Animals as well as people react badly to the loud booms. We've discussed this before, as unwise (not saying what I think) folks will spend hard-earned money on something to burn up. That poor man, having to be subjected to the noise.
You had another busy week! There is always something to be done. Not all in one day, spread it out a little. Early morning will be the optimal time to work in the gardens. Starting laundry and heading out to work in the gardens, even though we are getting a late start.
Stay cool! Cuddles to Bits!
Yes dust bunnies are just like real rabbits! They do breed!!
DeleteI feel sorry for all the animals too. It seems like such a waste of money - just setting it on fire. But there are many who love them - just not me.
Yes, there is always something to do! May not be something big, but always something. Gives us much to live for!!!
Have a wonderful week.
Glad to hear you had a good week. I'm interested in the mint tincture too. I read/saw on Youtube that you can eat grape leaves. I've never heard that before. Have you ever eaten them?
ReplyDeleteOur weather has cooled down into the 70's which we like.
I will post this week. Grape leaves are really big in Greek cooking. I have made grape leaf rolls before (stuffed/like stuffed cabbage) and they were great. I also use to keep pickles crisp - when canning pickle I add a nice grape leaf.
DeleteYou sent your last week's weather this way!!!! Enjoy the cooler days!!
Talk to you this week! Have a beautiful one!
I think I have all of your mosquitoes…. lol. Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteCheryl, I hope that you don’t have too many days in the 90s this week. The UK has been having a bad heat wave, hotter than Florida. But Scotland has been nice, mostly the low 70s. I’ve checked the weather in Florida and I think we are getting rain, fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteMy frugalities this week were many £2 ($2.64) bus rides, a gift of Scottish shortbread and lots of walking. I’m also crossing some places off my bucket list. Barbara M.
I'm happy to hear you didn't have any major storms and enjoyed a nice, peaceful week. We were happy to get almost 4 inches of rain over the last two or three days and everything looks so much better now. I hope you have another great week.
ReplyDeleteI agree, there is always busy work to be done.
ReplyDeleteGlad the storms are missing you. We were forecast for heavy rains this weekend, and thus far they are missing us. Not so the city where they had flooded streets. My son's house is set higher so he wasn't impacted, thankfully.
