I Feel Chatty

Hello all - hope you are all well.  Today is another repeat day here in middle IN.  Highs 70's, lows 50's, and looks to be so for at least the next week or more.  It is truly amazing.  I have blooms and baby peppers growing out there, and I still have a few green toms I left out there (underneath) that are growing.  It has been dry and pretty much sunny.  It is sure saving funds - no AC and no furnace needed.  Windows get to open during middle day for fresh air - it is really a joyful thing.
This is the last post for October!  Hard to believe.
Eight Fridays to shop before Christmas!!!!!!  The ninth Friday is Christmas!  YIKES!

                                                                  Most assuredly!

Last week, when I had lunch with the old grade school friends, there are three of us that have birthdays just a few days apart.  There was the 25th, 27th, and 29th.  We all turned 72 and were some of the first of the class to do so, as we all started school later than most.
One day this week, I was talking to one of the gals, and she mentioned something kind of cool.  We all started first grade together and went all 12 years of school together.  BUT we were all born at the same hospital, and back then moms were kept 7-10 days, so we all started life in the same nursery at the same time as well!  That is pretty amazing to me - and 72 years later, we are still hanging out together!

TIME CHANGE - for those that have to - remember to change those clocks before going to bed Saturday night!  I hate this so bad!  It will get dark so much earlier and that sucks in my opinion.  That is the worst part.
People that have pets or farm animals don't get a break.  Those animals have no idea that the tick-tock clock changes - their internal clock doesn't.
My tip, that helps me - I do not change the clock in the bedroom for a while.  I wake up, look at the clock and get up like normal (same with going to sleep).  Now the other clocks will be different, but my sleep cycle seems to stay the same for a while, and I stay on the same schedule as the animals.

CAT UPDATE
They are getting big!  They still look little much of the time to me, but in truth they are getting big.  Shoot McDreamy is bigger than momma Pip.  I can tell her by her long skinny legs, but he is bigger otherwise (both are all black).  They all love each other so much and goodness, do they play and play.  They sure are happy to see me in the mornings and then in the evening for they get wet food!  They have dry food out all day.
I swear they give my so much joy and happiness and make me smile no matter what.
They are all hunters - some better than others.  They love to play in the bushes out back, and somehow manage to sit on top of them!
This is Bootsy and Dusty hanging out.  Just before I clicked the camera, Boots was laying there hugging Dusty.
Smokey - oh, Smokey loves me sooooo much.  It is like a puppy, and follows me all over the place when I am outside.  If I am not petting, he reaches out and pats my arm, shoulder, whatever to get my attention!
Here is Dusty all alone - this is how it lays all the time.  Upside down!  Sure must be content. This kitty is so different in looks from all the others - looks Siamese.
There are 3 others, that I didn't get a pic of - 2 black ones - McDreamy and Bash and then there is Patches (looks like Bitsy).  Not counting Pip and of course old gal Momma.  Momma comes and eats but spends her days and nights elsewhere (unless hanging out alone on the glider).  I think she is just old and tired.
Patches, McDreamy and Smokey just love attention and want to be petted all the time.  The others are cool with pets, but do not beg for them.  Bash and Pip only let me pet when they are eating (this is new).  Momma never.
******************************

I will not be doing Halloween this year.  I stopped a few years after Glen passed.  I just didn't feel safe being all alone.  You never know who is behind the mask, and some kiddos are big, so it just is scary for me.  I kind of miss it, as I always got enjoyment from it, the kids were always so polite.  I have noticed that hardly no one on the street turns on their lights anymore (we have a lot of elders).  Very few kiddos around either.  Have fun if you celebrate.

OK, I guess I am done being chatty.  It is now 60*, that should be the normal high for the day - here it is morning.
Have a fun and lovely weekend, and I will post again in November!

Have a fantastic day all!!!!!!

  1. I love all the cats. I miss not having a cat but until I get the travel bug out of me I will not get a cat. The last 1 1/2 years of my precious Pippi’s life I took her to the vet twice a week for fluids for her kidney failure. Some people learn to do it at home but being alone I felt I couldn’t do it. I could not leave her during that period but coincidentally much of her illness was during Covid so no travel anyway. (The vet techs came out to the parking lot to get her.)

I do not do Halloween either. Mom always wanted to do it so I would stay with her until it was over. Too dangerous alone. Not many kids in the neighborhood anyway. People say, “don’t open your door to strangers” all year but on Halloween they say “open your door!” Overall, I have never been a fan of Halloween and definitely do not decorate for it.

Found this morning that all of the cranberry-almond chicken salad I buy at Aldi were very out-of-date, October. 12. I’ve never seen that at Aldi. I told an Aldi lady stocking in an another area and she was thankful. I bought the “regular” chicken salad instead. I don’t pay strict attention to dates but a deli item with mayo that out-of-date, No. Barbara M.

    1. I have always been a cat lover. Oh your sweet baby - that is sad, but you took such sweet care. I understand wanting to get the traveling out of your system. Pretty much everything I do, is scheduled around cats! That is my life. Thank you for being such a good mommy to Pippi.
YES, and then we always tell kids "don't take candy from strangers" and what do we do - send them knocking on doors! I did it as a youngster and it was fun, but times were different. Today it is just scary and not in a Halloween fashion.
Good that you found that and they rushed to remedy it. Had you bought it, Aldi is wonderful about replacing and giving it many times for free. Good for paying attention.

  2. 30 years ago we moved to a private street with no kids so no trick or treat here. Years ago we took the kids over to the neighborhood next to the elementary school to trick or treat. In our old neighborhood we didn't get a lot of kids. We lived in an older section where the owners had been there decades so not many kids. But still we had a few & I enjoyed it. Never afraid though it was just me and the kids most times. I don't know if I'd do it now since I'm older. That is a consideration.

I generally buy the Halloween candy the day after on clearance. I use it in baking. Last year I bought several bags of Hershey kisses for peanut butter blossom cookies. Some of the chocolate candies (like the mini candy bars) I chop up and use instead of chocolate chips. $2 a bag. I still have a bag or 2 left. I don't shop on Sunday so I'll miss that this year.

I noticed the cost of the bags of Halloween candy the other day. Wow.

    1. We used to have hundreds of kids come for trick or treating - literally hundreds. Don't miss that. Being older and alone and I guess just the times. They are different.
A day or so SAM mentioned wanting to get baking stuff for the holidays and watching sales. I made mention of that to her, buy that after Halloween candy. It works great for baking.
I thought of buying a candy bar a few weeks back, and looked at the prices and about choked. All candy is so expensive.

  3. Cheryl, love the cats! Kittens are one of God’s sweetest, cutest, joyful creations! We adopted 3 kittens to live indoors with us a couple months ago - what extravagance for me! A once in a lifetime opportunity. We have had as many as 5 cats in the house at a time.
We do not get trick or treaters on our gravel lane in the country. That’s ok.
I am still thinking of the changes you made over the summer. What an inspiration! Thanks for sharing. Carol

Glad you can have a quiet evening.
Thanks Carol. I appreciate that. It just kind of happened, but I am loving the results!

  4. Methinks that Smokey is saying, "Please let me in your house. I will be good and keep your feet warm." Just look at that face. Erin had a beautiful grey cat called Hannibal, looks similar to Smokey. His coat is like velvet.

Don't take this as a political remark, but if Congress had gotten off their collective over-stuffed behinds, they could have passed the bill to eliminate the daylight saving debacle. That's a good point about the bedroom clock.

Our neighborhood is an older one so we haven't had many kids come by. We don't observe the day because of spiritual beliefs.

We bought two 3.5 pound packages of 80/20 hamburger at Meijer for $7.61 apiece. Thought that was a good deal! I'm going to make a meatloaf today, cook some for the dog (dog food is expensive!), and cook up the rest for the freezer.

That is so cool about your classmates and the friendship you have shared all these years!

Saved your poster to my Quotes board on Pinterest.

    See you next month!

    1. Me thinks the same thing! Bits would not be a happy camper. I love the gray cats - they are always so pretty.
Yes, IN did nothing to stop the time mess, several states have changed. The clock thing works for me.
Lots of people don't observe the day. My MIL never did. I just have always figured the kids get a night a fun, and I avoid the rest.
What a great price on the meat! Meatloaf sounds good. Pet food is expensive! I spend more on animal food than mine!
Funny how things work, we have actually had time together since the days of our births! Fun.
      Next month for sure!

  6. We don't have trick or treaters here either, no children on this road and we're out in the sticks. I do not leave the light on or anything of that sort.

Love the cats, you are so fortunate. Are they all fixed now? That would be a huge expense, but all of those little ones are of breeding age now, aren't they? Once I had 8 cats - indoor-outdoor. What a joke. The food was always running low, they ate like crazy, and they caught mice as we were living on an old farmstead.

Today I got my covid booster, so I can lay low for the weekend and recover. For me, the shots have been worse than covid itself. :(

    1. No light here as well.
Still working on - it is a job. Girls first - then boys. Oh goodness, they eat like crazy. They are so fun and such a joy. Mine catch birds (makes me sad) and outside mice -yay! Even a bunny or two :(
      They are about 5 months.
      Take care.

  7. I will be ready for the few children that come here, but the lights will be off and the door locked at 8pm as most young children will be done by then. Last year we only had one, this year there are 4 children down the road that may or may not come around. I at least have Harvey here, but I can definitely see how being alone would be scary on Halloween.

    God bless.

    1. The cutoff here was always 8PM as well. Hope you get a few!
Harvey can eat the goodies, or save them for baking. I really don't like being out after dark at all anymore.

  8. I think your cats bring you such joy, and we all enjoy them also. As for the time change, could we not do half an hour and satisfy everyone with a compromise? I am Canadian and some areas are making changes this year so each province is not necessarily just one zone 😵‍💫 so that will be confusing. I am too old for that!

    1. They do bring me joy - glad others like seeing them too. They are just so sweet.
I think we only had one state that didn't change - maybe more this year. I hate it. It will be dark so early, that is what I dislike.
      It just messes up everything.

  9. Every house that sells in my neighborhood, sells to families with kids. I have lots of trick or treaters and really do enjoy them.
I despise the early nighttime and will not be happy until late January when I start noticing a difference again.

    1. Wow, that is something. Glad you will have a lot of kiddos coming. They are cute.
I am with you - until it starts back the other way I will just hate it. I don't understand why we still do this, it does no good.

  10. Our clocks went back last weekend and it threw me out of kilter for a few days. I wish 'they' would leave things alone.
We stopped doing Halloween during the pandemic. It has been a lot quieter here since my neighbour, who used to decorate her back garden to the max and invite the local kids to wander around it, stopped doing it due to health reasons around the same time. We mostly had little ones, accompanied by parents, but opening the door to groups of 4 or 5 hulking, silent, masked teenagers was becoming more common and I didn't like it.

    1. I read that - that overseas changed last week. It does mess one up for quite a while. I am with you - there is no good reason for it. (I don't care what they say).
That was a neat thing for her to do - but it would be noisy for the neighbors.
The littles are adorable - but yes, that seemed to be happening here more too. Those big ones, you have no idea who it actually is. Sadly, there are a lot of mean youngsters out there today too.

  11. When we first moved into our house 26 years ago, we had lots of trick or treaters, but in the last few years, we have had very few or no kids coming, so we've just quit altogether giving out candy. I think some kids have gone to the very nice neighborhoods or to community functions for their candy these days. Your kitties are so darn cute. Our one Bella is more than enough for us haha! Our daughter just got a chihuahua/doxie mix puppy and is bringing her over today. Miss Bella will not be happy but we will. See you in November!

    1. After all the kids grew up, it seems we just had just no-kid families move in. Not many around now. A few, but not a lot.
I think a lot go to the functions as well - it is much safer all the way around.
Oh Bella, won't be happy! Be careful, years ago my BIL brought over his small dog and my cat didn't like it trying to eat its food, and smacked him. It hit his eye and tore his cornea. That was painful and expensive.

  13. The neighbor little invited me to decorate Halloween cookies last w/e. She's the only one I expect at my door on Sat. I made her a special puffed wheat cake, decorated like a pumpkin of sorts. I may have to explain my art, like a preschooler!! The provincial government, in all its wisdom, decided to leave the time at daylight savings time rather than revert back to mountain standard time. So that means sunrise will be ~9:50AM by the winter solstice. No matter the time, there is the same amount of daylight in a day. There are places in this world that experience polar night for weeks so we're not that bad off.

I wish we would just stay the same. We do lose daylight hours by a lot! I just get tired of the back and forth.

  14. Oh! What sweet babies. I do love kitties but have not had one in several years. I was so attached to our Maine Coon and then our little MistyMoon that when I lost them I just didn't think I could have another kitty for a bit. Meanwhile, my son gifted us with our first Cockapoo, 3 years later I got a second Cockapoo by a fluke and now we have Daisy, the Havanese, who belongs to my neighbor that is no longer able to take care of her. She is pure joy...they all are....but also lots of work. Between hubby's illnesses and the three dogs it is like a three ring circus at our house. I wouldn't change it for the world. xo Diana
