Weekly Wrap-Up 6/7

Good Sunday to all.  One week into June and it has been hot and muggly (the term the weatherman uses! LOL).  Humidity has been pretty high this week - but letting up at least for today and tomorrow.  It is absolutely gorgeous outside today.  I plan on getting out and mowing today while the weather is nice and decent.
I have yet to hook up the hose!  When I have needed to water, I have used rain barrel water.  I guess I need to hook the hose up, as I do need to wash down siding on the house.

I have battled poison ivy on my right arm this week.  It is healing nicely now.  Boy, it sure was itchy earlier.  I have lots of it around and I am so allergic.  Sign of summer for sure!

My week:
  • I did a bunch of trimming and weed pulling this first part of the week (cooler).  Got all along the drive cleaned.  There is about 4" between the drive and fence and it is about a 3"- 4" drop, so it needs done by hand
  • Lined dried all the bedding and towels
  • Washed windows
  • VOTED in the primary we finally got to have.  The turnout was amazing!
  • I finished planting a few odds and ends at the first of the week!  The garden is coming right along
  • I got an email the my library was FINALLY opening their book drop off box - so I returned books I have had since early March.  The library is still closed.
  • While out I ran to Aldi as I was craving fruit.  I got strawberries, grapes and peaches on sale
  • Then on to hardware to get a few needed items and I used my $5 off gift card for spending $25
  • Paid all bills for the month
  • I tarped over the back half of upper part of greenhouse and the back wall - so as to shade it for the cats when they go in to eat.  It gets so much morning sun and it gets really hot in there - this helps quite a bit
  • Touch-up the color on hair (supplies on hand)
  • Cleaned out the refrigerator.  I kept hearing a knocking sound when it cycled and my first thought was "Ooooooohhhhhh nooooooo".  Well it happens that 2 little jars had fallen between the racks and lodged behind the deli drawer and they were rattling!  Sigh of relief.  So the frig is all nice and neat
  • I have made fruit smoothies a few times this week - refreshing way to get my fruit intake. (Oh, I added rum to one!  hehe)
  • Finally got paperwork from BMV on vehicle registration.  BMV has been closed and I wondered how I would get registration done by end of June (when it expires).  YAY, that is now mailed and taken care of.

Flowers out front are all red and shades of blue/purple.  They are just so pretty.  The pics don't do them justice

Meals this past week:
Fried potatoes, cabbage and smoked sausage  (I have been craving this combo lately)
Dirty rice with beef and tomatoes
Leftover rice and salad
Grilled Rueben sandwich  (Buddig corned beef & home canned kraut)
Taco salad
Baked potato with leftover taco meat and cheese
Chicken tender soft tacos
This weeks version of taco salad (out of lettuce).  It is different every time I make it!  Still YUM

How was your week?  How are you staying frugal?
Are your gardens doing well?
Love to hear from everyone - so feel free to shout out!

I pray this finds you each safe and healthy.  May we each do our little part to make our communities wonderful places.
Blessings from my humble little home to yours.

  2. Favorite part of this post is the rum smoothie! :-) Sounds delicious.

We are trying to stay frugal, and working on projects around the house, growing fruit & veggies at home, meal planning, and looking for deals. Between our normal work. Being at home has given us more time for sure to pursue frugal things, which is nice.

    1. It was delish!!! I used banana flavored rum!!!
Glad to hear you are getting stuff done and staying on track. It really is a pleasure to accomplish things and just be at home.
Too bad more people don't realize that!
      Have a great week.

  3. Not leaving home very often is definitely helping me stay frugal. And I don't often shop on-line so that helps too!

This is the first year in many that I've had any veg growing so I'm thrilled to see the growth. I may even be able to pick some lettuce later this week to add to a salad!

    Have a great week!

    1. You are so right. Staying home has saved me money too - and like you I do not shop on line.
YAY - so happy you have things growing. They will be so good!
      Have a great week.

  4. Our weather man calls a humid day 'air you can wear'. I think that describes it perfectly!

The interesting thing about poison ivy is that it is a bacteria. Warrior from Hopewell Oils .com will kill it in one dose when put on the bottoms of the feet and then put on socks for 3 hours. I had a young man come to me several years ago with such a bad case that his face was about twice the size it should have been. We put the oil on his feet and could actually watch his face deflate!

    1. It is amazing the 'professional' descriptions give of the weather!! LOL
I never heard of that before. I will sure look into it. I have always used black coal tar soap which is very drying. It works well.
Thanks for that tip - I will look it up!
      Have a great week.

  5. How about safe but not well?! I wrenched my knee very badly on Friday night and can't walk at all unaided. I've been using the desk chair as a walker. Will be calling insurance tomorrow for an orthopedic doc. I can already tell that a family doctor won't be able to do a thing. This far surpasses an *ache*. This is damaged.

So, I am pretty much incapable of doing anything standing up. My poor hubs has been bringing me a few things to do like drawers to clean out because I must do something! It keeps my mind off the What Ifs with my knee. I'm icing and elevating.

We had a wicked hot week and ate mostly salads and wraps. Lots of ice water. AC on full-time with ceiling fan on. Had to water for the first time this week. Our petunias are like yours. Full and beautiful. I did pink and a pale yellow this year. Day lilies are blooming and I see buds on both the tomatoes and cukes.

    1. Oh Debby I am so sorry you hurt yourself. That has to be miserable. I hope you can get some relief - and prayers for no surgery. It sure shows how an instant can change everything. Bless you heart.

Pink and yellow sounds pretty. My Dioro lilies are just starting - lots of buds on Tiger lilies.
      Take care and hugs.

  6. Our lives continue on as usual. Work, home, sleep, repeat. In frugality: Wal-mart pickup has kept me on budget for groceries. We did do a Sam's Club run yesterday but mostly to get a few things for the kids. And I do like their produce. There was no milk, butter, halfnhalf, sour cream in stock.
Thankfully I had gotten what dairy I needed over the past 2 weeks from Wm. We're eating so much from home and I'm making 99% of it from scratch. That's a savings, using ingredients instead of a box. Today I made a loaf of Beer Bread. We don't drink beer & just keep it on hand for guests. This was getting old but worked great in the bread. Except for not having a deep enough pan, so I smoked up the house when the butter ran off onto the oven floor.
I've been washing and prepping all the produce that comes in the door right away so we can eat it. I get a sort-of CSA box from some local small farmers. Only salad greens and eggs but they are so good. Those are washed and spun dry and bagged with a piece of paper towel and will keep nicely for 2-3 weeks. The grapes and strawberries I soaked in vinegar water to clean and are now in the fridge in bowls for snacking and lunches and salads. I have a cabbage and cauliflower in the bins that I must use this week. I'm starting to smell them. The garden is growing well despite the hot winds we've had this past week. We've had enough rain to keep them in good shape with just a little supplemental watering. My herbs are going crazy. I will need to make Pico again this week before the cilantro goes to seed.
This year I finally had a chance to fill all my pots and planters. Our patio looks the best it's looked in several years, with the herbs, container gardens and the flowers in pots. Even Farmer, who rarely sits out there, has joined me a few evenings.
    Have a great week.

    1. Wow you sound busy! It is amazing to me that places are still out of things. All is back to normal here.
Good going on so many fresh items and USING them all before they go bad. I always add a paper towel to lettuce too. It sure does make it last.
I have very old beer in frig and that is why I keep it - to make bread.

I bet the patio does look lovely. It always nice to sit and relax outdoors on a nice evening. Something just seems right doing that!
      Have a good week.

  7. You are making the rest of us look lazy and slovenly, you know! ha! Wonder when all the library branches will open. Wayne Township branch had embarked on a renovation before Covid hit town and they are not finished, so I guess that will delay the reopening. It is almost within walking distance of my house and I sure do miss it. I have been picking and freezing strawberries. It's been almost too hot and humid for this old gal to do much outside. The humidity is less today so maybe I'll work on the ever encroaching weeds. The city is working on the drainage situation in our neighborhood and the water will be shut off all day. We brought in buckets of water last evening for flushing and have plenty of drinking water in pitchers. And there are always paper plates! If it is too hot to work outside, I always have gobs of indoor projects.

    1. I wish the library would open too. I am not much on using the computer for picking out books. You can and then call ahead and they have them outside! What could go wrong there??? LOL

It has been pretty humid - I use up those mornings when it is decent for outdoor work. I just came in from weeding and picking up yard rubbish for the trash pickup. Afternoons are in the house!
      Fresh strawberries - mmmmmm.
Glad you planned ahead for the water shut off.
      Have a good week.

  11. Sounds like a good week. So glad your refrigerator is ok. Your flowers are beautiful and cheerful. Meals sound so good. I was craving fried chicken so actually went in Kroger for the deli chicken on sale. I love not having to cook. Hope you have a good week with no more itchy poison ivy.

  12. Cheryl, I had to chuckle when you mentioned that the weather was "muggly"! Years ago, a 10 lb. EMACIATED little dog tried climbing the ladder my son was using to build his shop. He was on the roof at the time and heard a noise and looked down to see this skeleton of a black dog already on the 4th rung of the ladder trying to get to him. Because of weakness from lack of food and water, sores on the pads of her feet from walking who knows how far, she finally gave up. I wasn't home at the time, but when I did get home he came around the corner of the house carrying the ugliest dog (at least I assumed it was a dog)in his arms. We already had two pit bulls and didn't need any more dogs! My husband was having prostate cancer surgery the next day. So we brought her in the house and watered and fed her. But told my son he had to find a home for her. Well, by that Friday, I don't think my son looked to awfully hard to re-home her, so I made an appointment with the vet and got her the shots she needed, a physical exam and an appointment to have her spayed. In her awful condition, she was UGLY - is all I can say. I still don't know how people just dump dogs!! I named her Muggly because she had one of the ugliest mugs I had ever seen. We've had her for about 8 yrs. now and she is the love of our lives!! Sometimes her face reminds me of a bat and her ears look like pig ears, but she is ours through and through and a more loving dog would be hard to find! We think she's either all or part Rat Terrier. Hope I didn't bore you with this story.

    1. Oh no you did not bore me. What a wonderful and sweet story. That doggy knew exactly where to go to get help and love.
You all have such kind hearts.
Bless her heart - goes to show that we don't have to be beautiful on the outside to be beautiful on the inside!!!!
      Love her name!!!!!! Precious.
Thank you for loving her and getting her love back in return!

  14. I’m here to testify about what Dr James did for me. I have been suffering from (GENITAL HERPES VIRUS) disease for the past 4 years and had constant pain and itching, especially in my private part. During the first year, I had faith in God that i would be cured someday. This disease started circulating all over my body and I have been taking treatment from my doctor nothing is working out, few weeks ago I came across a testimony of Pedro, on the internet testifying about a Herbalist called Dr James from West Africa, on how he cured Him from 7 years HSV 2. And He also gave the email address of this man... [drjamesherbalmix@gmail.com]..., advising anybody to contact him for help on any kind of diseases that he would be of help, so I emailed him telling him about my (HSV 2) he told me not to worry that I'm going to be cured!! Well, I never doubted him. I have faith he can cure me too,, Dr James prepared and sent me Healing Oil, Soap, roots and herbs which I took. In the first one week, I started experiencing changes all over me, after four weeks of using his Roots/ Herbs, Oil and Soap, I was totally cured. no more itching , pain on me anymore as Dr James assured me. After some time I went to my doctor to do another test. the result came out negative. So friends my advice is if you have such disease or know anyone who suffers from it or any other disease like HPV, HBV, HIV/AIDS, ALS, HBP, CANCER,NEPHROTIC SYNDROME, etc. you can contact Dr James herbal mixed the home of wellness direct on his.... drjamesherbalmix@gamil.com... He is a good man,and He will help you.
