CRISIS - Make a Plan

A crisis can be anything - it depends on you and your life.  We have all had a crisis at some time in our lives.  Some have had many.
FIRST we must take a moment and just breath - then make a plan.  You can deal with anything that comes your way with persistence and determination.

A crisis can be anything.  Loss of job or income, health crisis, family death, loss from weather event, etc..
How you deal with it is up to you.

1.  MINDSET - is so important.  Just try to calm down for a moment and know you HAVE to make a plan.  Analyze the situation and what you already have lined up, just in case.
Do you have a pantry to cover food?
Do you have an emergency fund to cover finances?
Do you have  some plans in case a death happens?  (Life insurance, wills, joint accounts/property, etc.)
Do you have a plan on where to evacuate in case of weather event or plan on sheltering in place?
Whatever the situation is - you HAVE to move FORWARD!!!
Remember that and your mindset is better.

2.  MAKE A ROUTINE - don't just flounder and do nothing.  It is easy to do.
Make yourself get up each day at a certain time - have meals at set times - pay bills on a schedule - take care of pets at certain times - maybe make phone calls at a certain time - go do errands on certain days and times - garden  at specific times - check on others, etc.
MAKE yourself follow a routine and stick to it.
Trust me it is easy to let yourself get down (no matter the situation) and get depressed.  We have to move and plan and DO!

3.  REASSESS - your life.  Depending on the crisis - your life may have just changed forever!  Older plans may not be practical now.  Regardless of your situation - you need to look at life and future life and probably make new plans, at least for the short run.
If you lost an income or job - well, vacations may need to be gone, budgets will need re-vamped, fun will look differently, cook at home and from scratch, etc.  You will have to do things differently at least for now.
If you lose a partner - your future will be totally different.  You have to alter your plans to take care of yourself.
If you go through a bad illness - others may need to help and pitch in for a while.  You may have to learn to accept help.  You will surely look at things and people differently.

Life will surely give us all detours at some point.  That is a given.  We just have to get past our momentary melt-downs (we all do it) and go forward.
All the worry and stress you do - fixes nothing!!!!!!  It makes you feel worse - but fixes NOTHING!

We all have the chance the get creative no matter the situation.  Creativity equals learning.  Learning equals moving forward and at some point contentment.   You have to push yourself and not give up.  Giving up is easy - pushing yourself forward is work, but my oh my it is worth it all!
You have to give 100% of yourself - no matter the situation.

Think back to the worst day in your life.............  Now realize you are still here!  You made it past that worst day.  I know we have all had many "worst" days.  Each time we think nothing could be worse - then at some point the horrible happens.  Yet you are sitting here reading this TODAY!  You got past that day.  It wasn't easy, it wasn't enjoyable, it was hard - but you are here.

We can get through what we need to get through.  We need to be persistent, move forward, calm down and breathe, make a plan and do it!

Prayer helps me get through all bad situations.  I known not everyone is the same, but I believe everyone is spiritual on some level.  Work hard and ask for spiritual guidance.  I truly don't know where I would be without it.

Look at a crisis as a learning situation.  From all bad things something good comes (it really does in some way).
Be the strong person you CAN be and THRIVE!!!!!

Blessings to all.

  1. Thank you, Cheryl. We all hit major bumps in the road, some we never see coming, and those can totally derail us if we're not careful. This is definitely a post to be kept and pulled out and re-read when it is needed. Very wise advise and helpful suggestions for when we may not be thinking clearly.

    1. Thank you. Just trying to give some help, like you said, in a calm time. When it hits the fan, we are all a mess and thinking goes out the window. This I know first hand.
Plan ahead, work through the moment, and go one step at a time forward.

  2. Good advice. Thank you!
I am a planner. Hubby not so much. I have a will, living will, medical power of attorney etc. Unfortunately hubby hasn't gotten around to it yet. You do what you can and leave the rest to God.

    2. Oh I meant to tell you that I bought some nutritional yeast that you suggested last week. My son said it was like fish food that tasted like cheese. Crazy kid. :D

  3. A powerful post Cheryl, thank you, such good advice.
It is so helpful in times of stress to have thought through the what if's.
Good idea to make some notes, I find its easy to forget things. A dear friend once gave me some advice many, many years ago when my first husband died when I was in my twenties. She said keep a little notebook by your bed and with you throughout the day, as you think of things write them down. Then the mind can be free to deal with the crisis. It helped then and has continued to do so.
Peaceful days to you Cheryl and to your readers.

  8. We have all had our crises of varying degrees. Prayer grounds us and gives us strength. All of your points are very valid, especially the reassessment that we need to do when things go south.

    1. Thanks. Yes, what is horrible to one may not be to another. We each bare our own moments of crisis.
      It sure grounds me.

  9. I went through a huge crisis almost 4 years ago and almost lost my husband. We have done most everything to be ready for that if it would happen again but still need to do a medical power of attorney.

    1. Lana we were the same. Funny you mentioned the medical POA - Glen had one done in early March '19, and he passed April 23, '19. We had talked and talked about the what if's - and we both knew NO machines if the answer was "it would be for always" for either one of us. I had the right to make that decision for him. Thank God.
      Please get it done!

  10. I do worry about all the people in the big cities who are ow out of work and who are getting evicted. It is so sad and scary. Then I think but they were getting 600 extra dollars a week for weeks, did they save anything? I don't want to judge and I am. I can't imagine being a land lord with a mortgage and not having rent for months and then having to evict people.

    1. Considering so many people on SS make less than those on regular unemployment - and they didn't get the extra $600, made me stop worrying. $2400 a month extra sure would have been nice. Many were making more staying home than they ever did working. That isn't right.
I feel for those getting evicted - but again - many just didn't pay because they thought they didn't have to.
I pray for all - but I leave it to God after that.
We can only do so much - and God has the rest.

  11. One of the teachers at school has both 90 minute classes ad 45 minute classes and she likes to say that she can get thru a 45 minute class with no problem, but 90 minutes not so much. LOL

If we take it step by step we will get there eventually, which is what I tell myself when faced with a task I'm not fond of.

  12. I look at these as challenges, or at least I did. Now I am not so sure if I would consider them a challenge or a roadblock.

    God bless.

  13. Amen!!! Your words are really timely for me right now. It really does help to keep moving. Push and it will start to flow. I like what you said about setting routines and schedules for doing the same thing at the same time. It really helps give structure to our otherwise free-fall feeling. Yes, prayer for help from the One who knows and and cares! Blessings, Cheryl.

    1. Mary I am glad these words were timely for you. I think we
are guided each day, and it make affect only one - but it was meant to be. Some days I am not sure what I am going to post and then I just write. Those are the ones that seem to help the most!!
Routines make a big difference for me. I just have to have a schedule and then I have to move.
Prayers is all important for me.

  14. Life can sure hand us some knocks, but we do survive them. I am a bad worrier, but am getting a bit better. I really am...I just refuse to worry too much about some things....or will give myself a window of when I can stress about certain things...LOL But that is the truth.

The surgeon who did my foot asked my why I worried so...I told him it was my job and I was good at it. But I really don't think I could have got through that without prayer.

And I tell myself, God has got this...about everything. I do not need to worry...

I HAVE to believe in prayer and God's control - otherwise I wouldn't make it.
