Happy Tuesday to all. Hope you are all well and good.
Today's post is going to be short. Nothing exciting - just a question I have for ALL of you!!!!!
HOW did you find your way to this blog? Was it through another blog or through a Google search? I know my first couple of contributors were invited by me. I had to start from scratch - and I invited people I had known for a long while.
I think it will be fun to hear the stories and I bet others would be interested too.
All I know is that I consider myself very fortunate to be thriving this long in - and I owe that all to you guys.
This is such a great community and it has gotten me through much.
Thank you for being here and supporting me and each other through thick and thin.
We are for sure RICH in friends and love!!!!!!
Blessings
Boy, that is a good question! I may have found you through a comment you made on another blog. That's a good way to find a kindred spirit.
ReplyDeleteThe Farmer decided to pull the broccoli after it grew a few more mini broccoli. Think we will plant more next year and space them out so they aren't all ready at the same time. The lone cauliflower didn't do so well. We have found that the tags in pots at the nursery aren't always accurate. The dinosaur kale was marked as cauliflower. Cabbages are making heads...yay! I need to trim the lower leaves from tomatoes plants even tho they have straw for a carpet. Some will need tying up as well. First tho, I need to put netting over the red raspberries to keep the birds out. Little beggars were in there this morning like it was an all-you-can eat buffet. Need to cover the blueberries too.
Enjoy this sunny day!
I used to list my blog name on some other blogs when signing in.
DeleteSounds like the garden is going great. I always like those little 'extra' broccoli you get after. Birdies want to eat too!!!!
Pretty day for sure.
i don't know if this will help you, but I put something called Bird Scare Reflective Bullseye Discs from Gardeners Supply Company. They were on sale for under $6. for five of them. Since then I haven't lost many strawberries. I have them over my blueberries now. My husband sid he hasn't seen a bird in our yard sincd I put them up which makes me kinda sad because I love the birds, but the berries are for us! Dee/NY
DeleteFirst of all, good morning on this Tuesday, Cheryl. I found your blog in the "blogs I read" listing of My Quiet Life in Suffolk, formerly Cottage at the End of the Lane, formerly a few other titles that began with A Suffolk Smallholding many years ago. I believe it was God led, because you're no longer on that blog list and haven't been since shortly after I found you. It was there for just a few weeks. I'm grateful to God for leading me here.
ReplyDeletePoppy has more shots today. We'll see (again) how much she's grown. She's nearly Blue's height, so she may wind up bigger than we initially thought. She'll be spayed and chipped in August.
I can't remember whose blog it is, but whichever one showed a completely potted grow-cery garden, thank you. We saved all the big nursery pots from lilac shrubs planted and I'm now planning a small potted kitchen garden, since youngest son brought Hubs a tomato plant for Father's Day. Better late than never?
Wishing all a GOOD day wherever you are and whatever you're doing. --Elise
Hmmm - I don't even remember that blog. That is pretty neat. A blog from somewhere so far away.
DeleteAw Poppy - she is a growing girl.
Glad you are getting some things planted - never too late!!!!
My best friend, long since passed, introduced me to Sue's blog all those years ago. I used to follow several frugal blogs and now just a few. Yours is my everyday, 1st cup of coffee stop.
Delete:-)
Hi Elise and Cheryl. I am a long time reader of Sue's blog, now called My Quiet Life in Suffolk. I love her library book hauls, reading about her grandchildren, her church and other visits and like Sue, I was also a Cub and later a Scout Leader. On her side bar of blogs she has In The Land Of The Living Skies 11, which is how I found you Cheryl. Thanks for your kind messages, I am feeling quite a bit better, just tired.
DeleteGlad you're feeling better, Heather. Resting up is good for recovering. Hope you're 100% soon!
DeleteA Poppy update... she's already 15 lbs.!!! --Elise
HEATHER - first glad you are feeling better. Just get rest.
DeleteIt is amazing to me to see blog names that I am not familiar with, and that people found me through those! I think that is just so darn neat!
Take care and continue to heal!
I've followed you for so long that I have no recall. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday everyone!
That is how I am on most that I read!!!!!
DeleteHmmm. That's quite a question. I have two possibilities for finding your blog: either I clicked on "you" when you commented somewhere, or I saw your blog listed on another site's side-panel. I often do those, and have found many good sites that way.
ReplyDeleteWe've got *rain*... lots of rain for the week, day after day. :) That's ok, unless it floods. Downside: mosquitoes will be breeding like crazy in any gutters that do not drain well. :(
MaryB
I have done both of those things myself.
DeleteYAY on rain - hope no flooding. Mosquitoes haven't been bad here yet - it is dry!
That is a good question! I think it was probably through another blog, but I'm not really sure. It's going to be a hot, humid day here in MN with a high of 89 deg. We sure do need rain. We had a few sprinkles on Sunday, but hardly enough to even make the sidewalks wet. My only garden this year is on my deck - a cherry tomato plant, some herbs and some petunias. I will also be planting the root ends of celery and green onions. We get a CSA veggie share. So far we've had lots of greens, leeks, beets, garlic scapes some herbs carrots, rhubarb, radishes, cucumber, strawberries. We get a box every week for a total of 20 weeks. All the veggies are organic. When we have more than the two of us can eat, I freeze or dehydrate the veggies or share with our neighbors. We've been getting their CSA shares for many years and enjoy them so much!
ReplyDeleteCheryl, although I don't often comment, I enjoy your blog so much; and I also enjoy reading everyone's comments. Have a wonderful day! Wanita
I know I am asking a lot for folks to remember - I sure don't remember how I found blogs!!!! LOL
DeleteAt least you have something planted! CSA are pretty darn neat. The closest ones around here are still pretty far away.
Glad you are here!
I googled 'frugal.blog"
ReplyDeleteGood to know!!!!!!! Cool!
DeleteMy sister told me about you and she found you searching for frugal blogs. Judy in Anaheim, California
ReplyDeleteCool - love that I show up out there in Google land!!!!!!!
DeleteI definitely found you on someone's blog roll, but I've been reading so long I can't remember whose it was!
ReplyDeleteI am the same way - no idea where I came onto most I read.
DeleteI searched for "frugal blogs". Read quite a few until I winnowed it down to the best: this blog, "The Bluebirds are Nesting", and G.Donna's "Generations Before Us". Each of you bring a different perspective to living the simple, frugal life.
ReplyDeleteThe garden is growing well since we've had plenty of rain lately. Peas are blooming, tomatoes are setting on.
Ran a couple of quick errands this morning while Husband stayed home. Picked up my glasses. They're a big improvement, but need nose pads to sit where they need to be and to stay on my skinny nose.
(Elise & Amelia, I left a comment below my initial comment on Sunday's post regarding the techniques I use to deal with severe anxiety. Also included a Husband update.)
--Frances in the Trailer Park
Well I am glad I made your list of keepers!!!!! I just love how there are so many ways of looking at things and how each one does it. No right or wrong way.
DeleteGlad the glasses are an improvement for you.
Take good care my friend.
Thank you, Frances. I'm glad you're able to eat again and that your hubby is getting rest. My pop had his 1st stroke in his 50s, and it took awhile (and PT), but he fully recovered from that one. He had a LOT of other issues, though, including only one kidney... so hoping/praying the right course of meds/medical care will have things good for you both soon. Wish I could give you a real life hug.

I think I clicked on a comment you made elsewhere. Or I saw you listed on the blog roll of a lady named Barbs blog, "Making It In Retirement" Such a good way to find interesting blogs. If you don't mind, I'll take this opportunity to mention the very lovely blog, "It's a Classical Life.blogspot" by Kristy. I find that it's important to include "blogspot" in the Google search, or you can only find a couple blogs about classical music. Kristy's is of special interest to those who enjoy reading.
ReplyDeletePlease excuse me - that blogger's name is Kristy, NOT Kristy. www.itsaclassicallife.blogspot.com
DeleteWell, my autocorrect insists on changing it - it is K I R S T Y
DeleteThanks for that link - I will check it out. I like people to share other spots - gives us all a different perspective on things.
DeleteGlad you made your way here!
Like many of the above I found you on someone's blog list. I have followed you ever since. Several years now.
ReplyDeleteI love that I have true devout followers - that just warms my heart. I love how bloggers help one another.
DeleteHmmm...good question. I don't actually recall, but I assume it was either through another blog (either on their reading list or a comment that you made). At one time, Blogger had a function that allowed one to click "next blog" and a new blog would appear. That's how I found many of the blogs I followed originally. Sadly, many blogs I followed then, have since stopped blogging.
ReplyDeleteI've started following other blogs when someone comments on my blog - I like to at least check to see if they have a blog because I appreciate when they take the time to comment.
I wasn't aware of your blog. Would you mind sharing the name of it? I'd love to take a peek!
DeleteThat could have been it. I remember that function that kind of just let you stroll a few blogs. Things have sure changed.
DeleteELISE - she is on my side bar - My life, my world!
Thank you! I hadn't made the connection. [blush]
Delete--Elise
I miss that next blog function on Blogger. It was fun to read random blogs and maybe find a keeper.
Delete~margaret
I am sure I found you named on another blog but I began reading so many during the great lockdown I can’t remember which one it was. I had also google frugal blogs so yours may have been on that list. Nancy in Vancouver Wa
ReplyDeleteWhichever way it was - glad you found your way here. I think a lot of people started reading blogs during that time. Always something to be thankful for!!!!
DeleteCheryl, are you trying to pop springs from my ears lol?! I can't remember, but I'll make a guess. I'm pretty sure I found The Prudent Homemaker first and I found others that way. I remember looking for ideas on home/time management. I came up on a blog post from Brandy that talked about staying home more and all she got done while homeschooling a big family. I was blown away and kept reading.
ReplyDeleteI apologize for forgetting who I'm responding to lol.
*I believe that World on Fire is coming back 8n October. I will post when I know for sure. What a great drama.
*I never had anything stolen from my mail, but my MIL was a frequent victim. I think someone watched for them because she sent so many. Because of that, I started sending stuff like that in a padded envelope and wrapped it with a candy treat. It costs an extra $5 or so, but it works. So absurd that people steal.
*My best bud told that the Columbia pack was a real lucky find. And it's made in the USA? Even better!
Big YUCK!!!!! yesterday. I went to refill my flour container from a package that's been in the big freezer for at least a month. Out comes a LIVE cockroach!!!! How on earth did he survive the deep freeze?!?!?! Fortunately I was pouring over the sink so he's now seeing the city in pieces via the garbage disposal. And I dumped the rest. No buddies, but that really freaked me out. Blegh!!!
I need to get my rear in gear. I have just 10 days to finish my June goals list. I completed just my 3rd item this morning. I've started everything, but now it's time to wrap it up......stay tuned.
Another hot day expected here in the plains. Enjoy your day!
I forgot to mention that I give myself 10 goals every month. Mostly 'get it done' goals. For example, this morning I refilled my active reading shelf in the order I wish to read them.
DeleteFirst - it is OK to not remember. I was just curious - but you may be correct on Prudent Homemaker.
DeleteWell those nasty buggers have lived since pre-historic times - so it is obvious that neither cold or heat nor drought, nor flood will stop them. Garbage disposal - probably!!!!! LOL
That is a good thing to do - having the goals. A plan is always nice! Stay cool.
Did either of you ever see the move, Wall-e? About the little droid? All of earth was decimated and the little droid's only companion was a roach. Cracked me up! But yes, EWWW!

I'm not sure how long I've been reading your blog but it was quite a while before your husband passed away. I think I found it on Kim's blog Out My Window. Hope you're enjoying your week!!
ReplyDeleteNot sure how I found Kim's blog - but glad I did. I love that so many people have been around so long. Thanks
DeleteBasically there are 2 different types of Frugal Bloggers. One saves by spending money and one by not spending. I was getting too many spending money ones (there is a need for these.) I can't remember if who I found first: Prudent Housewife, Iowa Housewife (miss those ladies) or you. But I found you all at about the same time. Probably summer of 2017.
ReplyDeleteI think I googled "no spend frugal blog." I still do this every once in a while.
DeleteCool. I do that myself every now and then just to see if there is any new stuff out there. I like finding new ones too!
DeleteFinding you on someone else's blog roll has certainly been a blessing, We had some rain last week but really need more. Humidity seems to be rising so perhaps there's a chance we'll get some today. It's been so dry that there are insects in my veggie garden that I've never seen before. Made up some soapy insecticide and went out and sprayed. Yuck!! Busy day yesterday restocking with gluten free baked goods and a few freezer meals. One daughter and niece came up last Wednesday to go through all manner of things that we were clearing out, cookbooks no longer used, baking pans, quilts, table runners, furniture, china, serving dishes and more. They took it all, Everything stays in the family and some will be passed down. No need for us to go to the rescue mission.
ReplyDeleteCookie
Whom ever it was a big thank you!
DeleteHow wonderful that the gals took what you had to get rid of. That is neat to pass it on and will mean so much more to them.
Sounds like you have kept busy!
I cam from another blog but can't recall which one. I'm very grateful I found you. Lynn Ewing
ReplyDeleteI am glad you found me too!!!!! Thanks to those who share thir blogrolls!
DeleteI googled! Over the last several years every so often I'd search for frugal themed blogs. Never came across any that I wanted to read. Most are too slick. Too many have links to buy stuff. On frugal blogs! Lol. I guess those come up first on searches because they're monetized? Anyway, I wanted a blog that was just normal, everyday useful ideas. I tried searching again last year when I was in the mood and your blog came up. It was exactly what I was looking for! I've since added a few others using your list of blogs you follow.
ReplyDelete~margaret
What a lovely compliment. Lots of the gals have the ads - it is extra money for them. I understand that. I have just chosen to not do that - never had the desire.
DeleteOnly a year ago - yet you are family now!
Oh, I understand about the ads. I don't blame them at all. They just weren't what I was looking for. And you know your blog is so much more than just how to save money and be frugal! In the past I'd hear people refer to the folks they'd meet on a blog as family and I thought how cute but I've never experienced that! Well, until now! Lol.I look forward to your posts and everyone's comments.
Delete~margaret
It is funny what we learn to call family, isn't it? I look at this blog as family - and I truly care about everyone.
DeleteI think I found you through Belinda Richardson's Frugal Workshop. I may not comment often, but I love your posts. I am in Mississippi, but I wish we could sit on the front porch together.
ReplyDeleteWell thank you to Belinda! She is a gem.
DeleteI wish I could porch sit with each of you. A cold glass of iced tea and a nice breezy day - just chatting. That would be lovely!!!!
I am not sure! I must have either found you via a search for a frugal blog or at another blogs recommendation. No matter which, I am so glad and thankful I did! I have been following you Forever !
ReplyDeleteI am grateful and thankful too! You gals are all the best.
DeleteIf I remember correctly, I found your blog during a workhop on RSS feeds years ago. I was likely looking for content on "self sufficiency" or something similar. At that point, I was simply reading and not commenting. When that Feed Reader ceased to exist, I lost everything and needed to re-find the sources I'd been enjoying. Or, it may have been during the time I was re-setting my searches using a new Feed Reader. I just know it's been a long time ... That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
ReplyDeleteWell I am glad you found your way here. It is neat seeing all the different ways came here.
DeleteRecommended blog from Belinda @FrugalWorkshop
ReplyDeleteAgain, many thanks to Belinda
DeleteI found you on the recommendation of a lady at my former church. She had bought a dish to a pot luck and said the recipe had come from your blog.
ReplyDeleteA few weeks later I was asked to leave that congregation ( and consequently my employment) and really found my self in a hole, and I decided to look at your blog and get that recipe. I am so glad I did, what a blessing!!!!
It took a little time to feel better but this blog was a big part of that, so thank you Cheryl and ladies. Louise.
PS: just to be clear I was asked to leave because my partner of 35 years and I aren’t married. This had previously never been an issue.
So sorry you had to go through all of that with your church, Louise, but I'm glad you're here. --Elise
DeleteOh thanks Elise, it’s no drama, I’m over it all now, but at the time it was very upsetting. I have my faith and that’s enough for me.
DeleteWow, what a story! So sorry that happened. But it led you here and that helped you! All things for a reason!
DeleteI think I found your blog through ' If you do stuff, stuff gets done' and I still access you that way. I don't subscribe to blogs; my email is clogged up enough already. I probably was interested in the jars of mixes that you put together for gifting but I enjoy most everything you post.
ReplyDeleteI find that most bloggers are praying a lot or thanking god for finding them bargains. And that's your all prerogative ; just not my way of thinking. It's nice that you take the time to share tips and encourage your friends when they're having a rough spot.
You present as a good caring woman. You're helping people become good stewards of the earth. Glad I found you years ago.
oops, that was Rita, not anonymous; as you probably figured out from the god comment. lol
DeleteBeing a good steward of this land and what we have is what is ultimately important. Not everyone believes the same - and that is OK. We each do what is right for us. I am good with that. I am glad you found your way here and thankful for the other blogs that led people here.
DeleteI found this blog on Kim's blog roll.
ReplyDeleteI am worried about her this week - hasn't been a post in a few days.
DeleteI was searching for something good and found your blog during the pandemic. Cindy/WV
ReplyDeleteWell, you stayed - so I guess you found something good!!!!!
DeleteBlog roll on Rhonda - ifyoudostuff
ReplyDeleteAgain, thanks to Rhonda. Glad you are here.
DeleteI've been reading your blog for years, Cheryl, so I don't remember where exactly I found you. I'm sure it was from another frugal blog. I'm just glad to be a part of your community here!
ReplyDeleteWe are glad you are here as well. It is a great community in my opinion. I may be bit prejudice!!!!
DeleteI have been reading you for years and am sure I found you through another bloggers fave list. I enjoy your blog and find it uplifting and encouraging. I am not a commenter but am an avid reader. Thank you for being here.
ReplyDeleteHo there. So happy to have you here. I love that there are many people that I never knew about that read and follow along. It is always nice to see new names. You are always welcome to comment at any time!
DeleteBarbara Bomberger's blog, now called Making it in Retirement, was the introduction to your blog, listed on her blog roll. I especially remember a blog in which you challenged readers to come up with a menu from what was on hand in pantry/freezer if 20 people showed up unexpectedly. Another prompt from you was to have more than one pair of scissors stored where you used them most. Consequently, I've got scissors in the basement to open bags of salt for the water conditioner. I was always schlepping up & down stairs for a pr. I think of you every time I use those scissors. I've come to realize that I am a no-spend frugalista.
ReplyDeleteHow cool!!!! Thanks for letting me know that!
DeleteFunny the things we remember. Like you I have scissors in about every room! Seriously!! Thanks!
I love challenging people to think about the what if!!!!
Love this!
Thanks, Debby---I was the one who asked about World on Fire :)
ReplyDeleteI think the bank fraud stuff is now finally all taken care of...hope so anyway.
I think I found you, Cheryl, on another blog but can't recall where. I have also been following you for many years, but I didn't used to comment at all and now I pop up only rarely :)
I miss you when it is not a blog day...I do visit your side bar folks, though. So many of my favorites have quit blogging. Your days are Tues,Wed,Thurs and Sun.?
I hope you have it all straightened out.
DeleteAfter so long, I think we all forget! Glad to have you comment - it makes things fun.
LaurieS says she misses those days I don't blog too! That is just so sweet.
Yes, Tues, Wed., Thurs, & Sun. Started the Wed, one during C stuff! Gave us all something extra to do.
I was invited by You!
ReplyDeleteI believe you were my first!!!!!!!!! You been here since post #1
DeleteLove you my friend!
Most likely I found you from a comment you left on another blog. I always read the comments and check out other people’s blogs. Yours was a keeper for me! 😁
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Glad you kept me around. I just love that so many read the comments - that is neat.
DeleteThrough another blog. Either on their sidebar or un the comments.
ReplyDeleteWhichever - glad you found us!!!!!!
DeleteThrough side bar on another blog!🥳🥳🥳
ReplyDeleteThanks. I love that so many bloggers help in that way!
DeleteHi Cheryl, I probably found your blog on the blogroll of some other blog. I never commented before, but I do read your blog almost every week. And then I use your blogroll to catch up with some other frugal living blogs. Greetings from Rina, The Netherlands
