Hello to all in this new year! As a child this was so futuristic! I remember being asked in grade school how old we would be in 2000 - and my answer was dead! I was 45 that year - but as a child I could not imagine being that OLD!! LOL. Here we are 25 years later and still going. Life is funny.
We have started the year colder and it does look like it will get messy by Monday of this coming week with some snow. Guess it was bound to happen.
In this year I will TRY to continue to get rid of things I have stored away in the basement (stored for years). I will continue to use what I have and try to get creative.I HOPE to lose some belly and midsection overage of my body! (in good health)
One of my talented nephews made this trivet. Click on pic to enlarge. It is so intricate in detail. It was wood burned. It is just beautiful.
This is the snack mix I made this year. Cinnamon toast cereal, frosted mini wheat, pretzels, lots of nuts, and M & M's. All drizzled with chocolate. You could use any kinds of cereal you have and add whatever you like. No real recipe. I melted chocolate chips in microwave - 30 seconds at a time until it would drizzle. Mix and yum! Lots of neighbors got this, kids took a bunch home, ate tons and still have a bunch left!
I hope to do more porch setting with neighbors. I hope to do a few projects around the house.
No resolutions - just goals and hopes.
I hope to be a better person - kinder and more giving.
I had a wonderful time with family this Christmas. A great visit was had on Sunday with nieces and nephews. I was missing some - 3 had the flu and 1 just got out of the hospital. Their gifts were sent home with the others. We had good food, lots of laughs and hugs, super nice gifts, and MUSIC! One of my nephews plays guitar and sings (wonderfully). I have never heard him live - just videos. He brought his guitar and played and sang - oh, what a treat that was. Best gift.
The mushroom kits were the hit of the gift baskets!!! They all loved them, and immediately they were all looking up the company to see what other types were available. They want more! Glad I got them. Of course they were excited for their jelly, salsa and special cookies and other items! I think all were super happy.
I went on Monday to my closest Big Lots to see what they may have left. Holiday was 50% off (nothing much left). Other stuff really wasn't over 20% off yet (some 10%) - but I found a couple new throw rugs I had been eyeing and a couple soft sporty type bras - all 20% off. That was it. I sure hate that they are going out of business - always liked that store.
Here are the kitties modeling the newest kitchen throw rug! I think they like it. It should show less dirt or fur.I got this drink container on Christmas. I LOVE it. I had not heard of the brand - but boy, does it work. It is metal inside and it sure keeps things cold and it doesn't sweat. I take ice water to bed each night, and there is always ice left in the morning. One of my talented nephews made this trivet. Click on pic to enlarge. It is so intricate in detail. It was wood burned. I got so many nice things. New jammies, lots of tasty goodies, home crafted items, yard and garden things for summer, a window bird house and a window feeder. I am so blessed with the best nieces and nephews. Love them bunches.

I have lots of leftovers from Sunday which is good. Tons of food got eaten, but I always make too much.
I look forward to starting new posts next week to share and enjoy from each other. I have a few ideas for posts and want to offer encouragement when I can. We all need a positive word in our lives - we all need to support each other.
Now that the holidays are done it is time to get our "frugal ways" back! What better time to get busy with getting back on track than the beginning of a new year!
Anything you want to see or learn this year?
Hope you have a fantastic remainder to the week.
Stay safe, warm and healthy.
For me, it sure was a lovely holiday this year. I got to see family who live far away, the littles, eat great food, bring home leftovers. Starting this year with a happy face. :)

I am so happy for you! That is just such a wonderful feeling. No better way to start the year - the heart is content and happy!
DeleteSounds like a wonderful Christmas! Our Big Lots closed for good the week before Christmas, however I just heard that Big Lots now has a buyer and will keep some stores open. Not sure how true that it is, but maybe yours will be one of them. That trivet is beautiful. I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week!
ReplyDeleteHi Rachel - nice to have you post. It is so sad for all the employees. I asked the gal I see often at mine - she did say she has 2 offers. So many may not. The one I go to has been there for probably 40 years or so. It is a neighborhood staple - and walking distance for so many.
DeleteI hope someone buys some of them.
Thank you and you as well.
The homemade peanut butter I made was a hit. My daughter said she may never buy it at the store again! Looks like I'm going to be the family peanut butter maker!! Haha
ReplyDeleteThat wood burned trivet is amazing! I tried doing that for a few things and it's hard. I did simple shapes and was challenged!
Happy new year!
Well, it looks as if you have a new job! So happy it was a hit. How fun is that. You could make with all kinds of different nuts.
DeleteIsn't it something? I could never be that steady of hand.
Back at ya!!!!!
Sounds as though you had a wonderful time! All the best for the New Year.
ReplyDeleteI did. I hope your holidays were lovely as well.
DeleteThank you and you too!
Wow, you got some great loot! Your family loved what you gifted them as well. The trivet is beautiful. Talented folks in your family.
ReplyDeleteWhat we can glean is that Big Lots has been purchased and some stores will remain open. Erin's store is still open and it is the largest store in the state. It would simplify things for her, and lots of other folks, if it stayed open.
She is flying out before dawn tomorrow to go to NC for her dad's 80th birthday. Her sister and husband are flying in tonight. So far it seems to be a surprise.
Stay warm! I sure hate to hear the forecast.
I did get great loot and they did too! Yes, there are many talented ones.
DeleteIt sure would be nice if they kept some open. I hate to see people lose their jobs.
Hope she and her sister have safe travels.
Yes, stay warm and safe!
Just wanted to stop in and wish you a happy and healthy New Year! Christmas here is still under the tree. I spent much of Christmas week under the covers with a high fever, cough, aches and pains ... I'm just now starting to feel better. We'll celebrate Christmas and exchange gifts this weekend. Temps have fallen here (22* this morning) and any sunshine we had is now under cloud cover, with flakes expected this evening. Stay safe and healthy!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry you were so extremely sick. Glad you are feeling better and get to have Christmas this weekend.
DeleteTemps will be getting very cold here next week - and snow is coming.
Take care and have good new year.
What a wonderful Christmas you had Cheryl! The trivet from your nephew is beautiful. He did a really nice job on it. The snack mix looks delicious. We used to sit on the porch swing and talk to our neighbors and visit when we lived in Pikeville, and I just loved that. Now our neighbors are farther away and we don't visit like we did back then. I hope the rest of your week is good too.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great holiday for sure. He did do a great job - I think it is just gorgeous.
DeleteI love porch sitting. Really just started doing that this year with the neighbors and we all enjoyed it a lot.
Take care and stay well.
It sounds like you had a great fun-filled time with family over Christmas. What a blessing to have a musician in the family.
ReplyDeleteI was amused to read your words about the year 2000. I remember thinking much the same as you when I was at school - I would be 36 then, SO old. It seemed such a long way in the future. Now it is a quarter of a century in the past! How on earth did that happen?
Yes, and he is a wonderful musician. He sings so good. We had a ball.
DeleteI know it was crazy to think about getting OLD! Funny, I still have a couple grade school teachers still alive - and I thought they were old in school. Probably just started teaching back then.
Time sure does fly by and all I did was blink!
Wow those are some wood burning skills. I am so happy you had a good CHristmas.
ReplyDeleteIt is so intricate! Thanks - I hope yours was good as well with your kiddos.
DeleteWe had a peaceful and quiet holiday. Went out for supper for my birthday and our 49th wedding anniversary takes place in eight days. Then all will be quiet until Harvey's 75th in July. Time to regroup, make plans and get back to living a simple, thrifty and frugal life.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Glad yours was nice. Love that your boys were there.
DeleteYes indeed, time to get back to being our thrifty selves!!
I love homemade gifts!
ReplyDeleteOh, I do too. So much heart and love put into them.
Delete(Little Penpen) Happy New Year! It sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas! Wishing you a blessing filled 2025!
ReplyDeleteHi Penny - good to see you post. I did, hope yours was great as well. Thank you and happy new year to you!
DeleteSounds like everyone had a wonderful time together. Love the window birdhouse and feeder gifts! We are feeding Meadowlarks with homemade suet - outside our windows. It sure is fun to watch them munch and know the stuff is nourishing them.
ReplyDeleteThe trivet is really pretty. You’ll enjoy it every time you see it.
Family singalongs are the best!!
Have a blessed New Year, Cheryl xx you and the kits🐈⬛🐈⬛❤️

p.s. we’re expecting just a little of the white stuff this weekend❄️keep warm!
Yes it was a good time for all. I love anything that helps with my critters and me enjoying them. They know me well!
DeleteThank you so much - you have a super year as well.
We are expecting (so they say) a lot of the white stuff! Stay safe.
Speaking of frugal, might want to stock up on those cheap surgical masks while there is no demand and the prices are low. There is something weird going on in China with the hospitals, things didn't go so well last time that happened.
ReplyDeleteI still have a box of those from before. Thanks for the idea.
DeleteSounds like a wonderful time with your nephews and nieces.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was young, I thought 60 was old (my Dad was 49 years when I was born), not so much anymore.
The year 2025 reminds me, If I hadn't retired early, I would still have had just over a year to go before I could retire with a full pension. I don't regret my decision at all - retirement is the best job I've ever had!
It did seem old Mom and dad were mid 40's when I was born, and when I was young, I thought they were so old. They were older than my friend's parents. Then it didn't matter anymore.
DeleteOh gosh - glad you retired early. You have been having some great adventures. I agree - best job ever!!
