Hello to all. Happy Tuesday. Hoping you are all well and safe. It is cooler here this morning than yesterday for sure! Yesterday was a lovely day - it got to 73* at my house. I worked outside a lot yesterday, and boy can I feel it this morning. LOL! I did sleep well, as I was just plain old tired.
Today is going to be much cooler and windy again! It started out sunny, now it is very cloudy and overcast. The wind is nuts already!!!
Just a peek of my perennial bed. It is really popping up. Looks like there will be a lot of poppies this year! They have burst out of the bed!Well, as promised, and little about still finding bargains at the grocery. I ran into Kroger Friday for just a couple of fresh items. I wanted potatoes, radish, and mini peppers. I went on Friday as well, so that whatever I purchased gave me 4X my points for gas. I got what I went in for.
Of course I walk the store, JUST IN CASE!
I also got a 1 lb. canister of Coffee Mate (powder) on clearance for 1.68 (no pic). I am not a coffee drinker, but it can be used in hot chocolate or in something that I need a dairy flavor in (mixed with water). It is dated (sell by) 11/25 - but I will keep it in the freezer for long term use.
Bread was FREE - for stopping in the thrift store. This is expensive bread. Found a .50 new coloring book for a gr. niece.
There were so many things this week in the clearance section - but most were things I wouldn't use.
Kroger regularly has deals on meat. Every time I have gone in during the past couple months there are deals.
It is a regular at my stores to have multi-packs of pork chops for $5 - it includes 10-12 chops. Same with chicken legs and thighs. I bought chicken legs a while back that had 14 huge legs in it, and it was on discount for 2.59. Super deal. They have also had fresh salmon, catfish and shrimp in the $5 packs. Those are pretty darn good prices today. You just have to pay attention and look around. Deals can still be found.
We have a discount store that also provides many deals in all things. They have things from yard equipment, clothes, toys, furniture and food.
Here is a look at a couple of their FB ads showing deals. It changes up every week. Some are great and I have purchased there before, and the produce is always good. There is always a deal. For anyone close to me this is Circle City Bargains on US 31 south, just north of Greenwood (they are on FB). This is also where I got my mower and pressure washer. If you click on the bottom picture, you can see the pricing better.
You just have to look for options and really look around the stores. I recently saw someone post that Aldi had tomato soup for .29 can! I saw an Aldi post on FB yesterday with small mushroom pizzas (frozen) having an unadvertised special for .49 each!! Sign up to get advertisements or FB ads for your favorite stores. Many send emails to you as well, if you choose.
I have never done any of the apps for groceries. I do not have that type of phone - but I can sure find a deal by looking around!
************
Just a side note- I make my own dressing, and I use an old store-bought bottle to keep it in. A couple weeks ago, my ranch looked empty, but I turned it upside down in the frig - and I got an additional 5 uses on side salads out of it!! Empty doesn't really mean empty. You can always add a bit of milk and shake it up to stretch. Italian can add vinegar and/or a bit of oil to extend.
Of course, shampoo, dish soap and laundry soap - add water and shake. You will be amazed how much is left and how well it works. Cut things open like lotion and toothpaste - many more uses.
Just stop and think!! There are lots of ways to extend your pantry and freezer and the items you have. Use lentils with or to replace meat in soups and casseroles - they are the great extender! Use less meat. I can have meals with no meat and still get protein, and I get full.
Like my Coffee Mate buy - think about other uses than the normal one!
Deals are still out there. It may not always be 'what you went in for', but maybe you can change up your idea of need. Be open to going with the deals to help in the menus. Be observant!!! It can pay off big time.
Have a super day to all!
Faith over Fear
Mostly sale items go in the freezer when it comes to protein. Brisket was on sale for $4.99/lb this week & turkey for $1.79/lb. Good prices in this neck of the woods. I've been eating down the freezer but I didn't pass up on these bargains.
ReplyDeleteThat is smart - when you see a bargain get it! You never know if it will happen again in the near future. We need to look and seek deals wherever and whenever we can!
DeleteYour prices - it's like another world! Half Gallon of *store-brand* milk is more than $2.50 here. I haven't looked at ground beef in so long I don't know the current price. We've only the one grocery, so no competition to moderate prices. :(
ReplyDeleteI'm still working on the giant free cabbage, and it will be a while before that is gone. Yesterday I ate some with little sausages which were on sale. I have enough sausages for many more meals and froze individual servings.
The weather online says today is fair and breezy. I don't know where they are looking, because the sky here is full of dark gray clouds and the wind is ferocious. Thank heaven the temps are mild (~60).
Some days I feel like I am clinging by my fingertips to Faith over Fear. Odd how such waves roll over me. What causes them?

2.50 for a half gallon? That is crazy. I usually buy my gallons on sale for less than that. That is a shame that there is only one store. Look at stores when you go out of town or travel. Keep a cooler in the car trunk just in case. You never know.
DeleteWell, it is gray and super windy and chilly here today too!
I think sometimes we just let fear in more than we should. We let our guard down and let too much reality in. I very seldom feel fear about anything anymore. I just put it in God's hands and know His will be done. It is normal to be afraid at times. Hugs
Less costly proteins is a treasure hunt these days. My son will just buy based on what he's shopping for so I'm trying to add lower cost options that he can pull out. When he lived in CA he had two roommates and space was slim, but he'll catch in to a different way to shop with me or in his own place.
ReplyDeleteI think younger singles look at things differently than those who have taken care of families and that are maybe homeowners. It takes time to learn to not be tunnel visioned. Look and find the best deals. It may not be the one thing you went for, but it may come in handy. He will learn watching you.
DeleteYou got some amazing deals! I make my own bread but would have taken that multi grain in a heartbeat.
ReplyDeleteI look for deals when I am in a store, if I find a great deal I buy it. If I can't use all of it I share with family.
Beautiful day yesterday....cold and windy today but with as hard as I worked outside yesterday a day inside today doing housework is not a bad thing.
JC
Thanks. The bread was not only free but very tasty! That is an expensive bread. I have been enjoying.
DeleteYou have to look for deals - it just makes good sense! Yes, buy it and if not all is needed, share with others.
I agree - today is a good day to stay indoors. I was pooped yesterday!
Your perennial bed looks great! All that rain we had sure made a difference in greening everything up. It is definitely cooler today. We were going to work outside and decided to put that off and do inside chores.
ReplyDeleteYup, bargains in the meat department go into the freezer. Costco had packaged roasts with an additional $8 off. We cut them up, repackaged and froze them. They are just the right size for us.
If a bottle appears empty, it really isn't! Five extra servings, you go, girl! We scrape out every last drop. We watch cooking shows and when the host will leave things in the bowl, we yell at the screen. ha! One who doesn't is Kaleb Wyse, who has Wyse Guide. His mom and grandma taught him to scrape every bit.
Off to do some laundry, and prepare a sweet potato and mixed veg for the dogs' breakfast. Enjoy your day!
Thanks - the world is just greening so much!
DeleteYou go gal. Get those meat deals when you find them. Repackage to fit your needs. Love it.
I do that too! I yell at the TV when I see waste or things that are silly! I thought I was the only one! LOL
My big gripe is on the decorating shows on homes/cabins etc. They always show a shot towards the door and there is almost ALWAYS sunlight coming from under the door!!!! YIKES. All I see is heat loss and bugs coming in.
Staying indoors here today as well.
Your perennial bed is looking so lovely. It will be even more so when the flowers start blooming!
ReplyDeleteLiving in a small town limits the options for finding bargains, but that doesn't mean we don't see them here. The local Independent Grocer offers items on a reduced price, the Co-op generally does not. But we also have a Dollar Tree and a community thrift store for clothing, books, etc. The Food Bank also has a small store with discounted items that are donated by local businesses. One never knows what you might find - everything from supplies for babies, toiletries, kitchen equipment, candy, toys, etc. It's a fun walk-through even if I don't find anything that I need.
It is nice to have a few options. I know not everyone has them. It is fun to go through those kinds of places, just to look. When I stopped at the thrift store - the color book was all I bought (a birthday is coming up), and I am making a gift bag. But the free bread is always nice.
DeleteYou have to seek sometimes!
You scored some great deals! A good reminder to just look around in stores. There are markdowns all the time. Your flower bed is looking great! I can't wait to see what pops up! Hope you have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mandy. Yes mam, you have to look all over the store and some people don't want to take the time. I consider it exercise! walking to save money!
DeleteThere are so many different kinds of flowers in there, I can't wait for blooming to commence!
When I was working and had a family I used to dash in and buy groceries and dash out. Now I have more time I explore the aisles for potential bargains, and online too before I go out.
ReplyDeleteOnly issue is that I sometimes buy too much when something is heavily reduced and then waste it, as there is only me eating at home. I need to get better at judging what I can use, what I can freeze or give away. Otherwise it is false economy.
i think having more time, does allow us to really look around. I try to buy only what I will use, but I am well stocked to say the least. I find that as a good thing. Yes, we can always share things. I tend to freeze items that I cook a lot of. Don't have much waste. Yes, throwing it out, is just like throwing cash away - and we wouldn't like to do that!
DeleteWe had a group get-together for lunch today and one of the women had stopped in at Wal-Mart on her way. She picked up whole rotisserie chickens in the deli's refrigerator case for $2 each. Her comment? You can't buy a chicken breast for that! These are left-overs from the previous day that did not sell. So they mark them down and put them in the refrigerator case. She buys them when she can and freezes them -- some whole, and when she has time, she cuts them down and portions them out for single-servings. She said she'd likely portion some out and pull others for use in chicken salad, pot pie, or similar. I stopped there after our get-together, but they were all gone. For that price, I'll go some morning and see what I can find.
ReplyDeleteThat is a deal!! She is right - you can't buy chicken breast that cheaply. That is a super way to stock up on chicken. I have heard others say they get them too - I have never seen them that cheaply. Such a great deal and a very wise woman!!!
DeleteSuch great deals you picked up at Kroger. That was a great price on the milk and I agree with you, ground beef costs more these days than it used to cost. I like your perennial bed, I’ve always wanted a concrete bench like that.
ReplyDeleteThanks - Kroger always has some deals around. I drink a lot of milk, so that is wonderful for me.
DeleteThanks - I love that little bench. It has been out there for years and it is a nice place to sit and reflect. Kitties have always liked it too!
What a lovely garden, Cheryl. Look for sales all the time, and if I can't use it right away I find a way to freeze it or dehydrate it so as to be able to use it later. You really got some great food deals.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thanks. Those plants all came from my folks house!
DeleteYes, always be on the lookout and buy when finding. A good price is a good price.
Thanks.
Great deals! Especially for the beef. That is a good brand of bread, and I have bought it marked down on Flashfood. I have still been finding deals too. They will probably begin to dwindle. But for free -- that is a score!
ReplyDeleteI found coffee on FF today. $3.69 per can of Maxwell House. I took three. Coffee is going to get more expensive, and I can't go without!
I never thought I would say that was a good price on beef, but yes, it was. Kroger usually has a lo of good markdowns - just depends on if you would use.
DeleteThat is a great price on coffee. You can stick those in the freezer too for keeping longer. Glad I never became a coffee drinker.
I am SO envious of your bargains. In Florida, or where I live, we just do not have those stores. Publix is a main one, then there is Aldi and a Save a lot and of course the whole foods, the fresh market (more high end) a trader joes and that is about it. No Kroger. Oh, we can get Kroger delivery, but then you pay a high price for delivery. Here, when you have something delivered, they mark up EACH item and a delivery fee. Walmart (I suppose) is an option, but there delivery times are never on time and half the time they are 'out of stock', when it said they were IN stock online. So frustrating. I am going over to Aldi this am. I am really hoping to find something I can buy. I am so tired of this economy!
ReplyDeletesorry for the rant this am.....
DeleteSo sorry you don't have the good options in your locale. Aldi is a good place to shop - it seems cheaper than most. wow, on marking up each item. That is crazy. I guess they have a standard delivery charge here, I am not sure as I have never used delivery. I haven't heard a lot of good about WM delivery. I miss Sav-a-lot. I sure hope you find some goodies at the Aldi. Hopefully soon farm stands and markets will be starting too.
