Weekly Wrap Up 4/19

Hello to all and a happy Sunday.  Hoping this finds you all well and safe.
It is a pretty but chilly morning here.  The sun is up and shining and it is a bit frosty here.  After such a warm week, it is different!  Tonight, may get down to close to freezing as well.  Good reminder that it isn't growing time here yet (for most stuff).  We had an incredible week weatherwise.  Yesterday was cooler and rainy (needed), and this girl just got lazy, and didn't do much but eat, snack and nap!
Both SIL and sis are doing well, and life is getting back to normal for both.
It was a fairly quiet week
My frugal week:
  • Went out to lunch with grade school gals.  It was a nice time and good food.  Brought home leftovers (cost less than $20)
  • Mowed everything from front to back and trimmed
  • I changed out my glider cushions for the first time in years (I got last fall on clearance).  Also moved around some lawn furniture and a lot of pots that will be used for gardening
  • Made nectar and put out hummingbird feeders. Kind of early here - but you never know
  • Did lots of walks - free exercise
  • Made potato cakes with leftover mashed potatoes and ate some and froze some
  • No heat at all this week (until this morning)
  • Got to air the house each day
  • Picked rhubarb
  • Using what I have on hand and using all leftovers in some way - using lots of odds and ends in freezer
  • Pulled out all the heavier bedding from greenhouse and kitty house and laundered & lined dried - ready for next year
  • Did some sewing
  • Just all the normal stuff
Meals this week:
Smash burger and lg. portobella mushroom on bagel thin, salad
Out to lunch (House of Tokyo)
l/o rice & zucchini (yesterday) with shrimp and faux crab (freezer) added & salad
Grilled burritos (used l/o beans, rice and sauce from freezer)
Poor man's Swiss steak and mashed potatoes
Chicken legs (freezer), potato cakes and salad
Smoked sausage, mac & cheese, and slaw
SNACKS - fruit, PB on toast, cheese, fresh veggies

Life has been quiet for the time being, and that is fine.  Not time for gardening yet and just of enjoying the calm.
The poppies all have big old buds on them, then peonies have tons of buds, and everything is green and growing.  One day Chuck (groundhog) showed up again and came under the fence - Persy saw it and was having none of that.  Back arched and hissing took place (about 4' away), and Chuck stopped and slowly turned and left!  It was funny to watch.
Watching lots of birds and beautiful woodpeckers.

How was your week?  I know many are getting tons of rain (up north US) and you northern gals (Canada) are getting snow in many areas.  Time for that stuff to be done!!!
Did you get any deals this week?  Get to plant anything?
Love hearing from everyone.

I hope you all have a wonderful week ahead.  Prayers for health and safety for all.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble home.

Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalms 119:105

Dear Lord we thank You for all our blessings.  I pray we all pay attention and follow Your word and light to help our lives be better.  If we follow Your light, we will always go the correct direction.  May we each add our own light to this world and help make it better for someone else.  Prayers of healing for all in need.  AMEN

  1. Excellent devotional! We need the high beams of the Master's flashlight! You are so right about following His light and going the right way. That glow will rub off on us and help others.

Cute story about groundhog v. cat. I love to hear the woodpeckers at work.

The sun is pretty but deceptive. Earlier I went out to bring Riley in and it was downright chilly. One more night (for now) and then it will warm up. We get impatient this time of year and want to plant, plant, plant. We had fresh lettuce for salads yesterday and the radishes are still producing. You got rhubarb already! Ours is growing but we haven't harvested any. Strawberries are going gangbusters so will probably cut some when the berries are ready. The peonies are loaded this year. I have some black iris that are getting ready to open. Do you call them iris or flags?

A shared meal and good time with old classmates plus leftovers! Win win!

No deals but still trying to eat up the older inventory. Think we may have a sheet pan lunch today, use some fresh veg before it becomes compost.

Enjoy your day! See you Tuesday!

    1. God provides the light we all need.
Persy has all healed up and is kind of the protector of the tribe now. No groundhogs allowed! LOL
It is chilly, I went out for a little walk earlier, and I think I will wait for more warmth to finish.
It is so cool so many things are starting to thrive. I have always called them iris - but mom always said flags.
I am ready to get lettuce and onions planted - you are eating, so way ahead of me!
Same here, trying to use up all the odd and ends tucked away.
      Have a super week.

  2. +4C this am with bright sunshine after a heavy snowfall on Tues/Wed. I had the privilege of not leaving home at all this week but there's something everyday in the coming week. Many signs of spring including pussy willows. I enjoyed Canada Reads, a literary competition in which 5 "celebrities" defend a book & choose the winner. This year's winner - The Cure for Drowning by Loghan Paylor. Swedish death cleaning continues; I started on the books. There were 2 days of shovelling snow. Enough already! There were some house frau-ing - clean under washer/dryer, clean light fixtures & bathroom fans. In the kitchen: tortellini soup; frozen sorbet dessert for the freezer; bread; banana loaf; panfried fish w/ fried rice; shepherd's pie; chicken sandwiches. Have a good week, Cheryl.

    1. I bet you are so over winter and the snow. Goodness, I would be. Spring will be there soon, and glad you are starting to see signs.
Those deep clean items take time and no one else sees it - but knowing it is done is somehow satisfying.
      Foods all sound great.
You have a good week as well.

  3. It's been warm here the last few days. Monday starts another round of rain and cool weather. I am itching to get out and garden, sun is warm but air is down right cool. I miss going to lunch with my classmate Vickie but she is a whole state away now. We used to meet up once a week. Your meals sound good this week. We have had or should I say DH has had numerous Dr. appts. these past 2 weeks. I guess his VA Dr was just covering all the bases. Just follow ups. Estate sales are ramping up in the area, we went to 2 this week. Always fun to look at stuff but a lot of the time I go to look at the house and landscape. Yesterday I got the last of the ham from Easter cut up and in the freezer. Cut up some chicken for chicken salad. I have a cabbage to cut up, maybe into a coleslaw. Sometimes I just run out of meal ideas. Have a great day.

    1. I think we get your warmth in a couple days. Cool here for now - warming again this week. I am ready to plant too. Going to wait a while yet - too many chances for freeze and frost this early.
That would be tough to be so far way from your friend. We meet every couple months.
Glad they are just follow-ups and caution trips to the doctor.
we hardly ever have estate sales around here - just plain old garage sales. They haven't started much yet. I always like going to an estate sale too - just to look around. You can see some neat places.
I list meals every week - hoping it maybe gives an idea or two to someone. I like variety - but sometimes it is hard to come up with something different.
Thanks - you have a beautiful week my friend.

  4. It hit 90 this week but rained overnight and a windy cold front moved in early morning. High is supposed to be 70. I have my doubts but maybe it will warm up this afternoon. My onions, spinach and lettuce are growing and all the roses are in full bloom. Your food sounds great! Cindy in the South

    1. 90* is pretty darn warm. I do love the 70's. How cool that you have veggies growing and roses! I look forward to seeing roses in bloom. Lucky you.
      Have a lovely week.

  5. We had rain last night and woke up to a chilly 48 degrees. It's good to hear that your SIL and sis are both doing well. Sounds like you've been busy in your yard and I'd say it looks all neat and tidy. I love not having to have the heat (or air) on and enjoy the savings on electric. Your meals sound delicious, especially the smash burger, yum. Sounds like Chuck & Persy steered clear of each other. Good for them. :)

    1. Rain sure does that! It is really windy and cool here today.
I try to get a little done in every week - just to keep up on things outside. It just never ends.
I love not having to use the electricity for silly things like heat and air!!!! LOL
It really was good and the cooked portobella on top was so yummy.
I think animals learn to set their boundaries.
      Have a great week.

  6. It rained Friday night and continued for most of the day Saturday, which was really needed. Today is gorgeous. A little cooler but so sunny. I worked in the herb garden, and we cut a few branches off of a couple of trees enjoying the fresh air.
Glad to her your SIL and sister are both doing well.
Sounds like you had a great week!!

    1. Glad you got some needed rain. The sun sure can lift spirits. It is windy here and cool, but it has been pretty.
Thanks - so happy they are both on the mend.
      Have a good week.

  7. I planted some lettuce, hopefully it will thrive with winter coming, though we still have some warm days. My shrubs and trees grew prolifically during the summer so I have started to prune some of them, but may need to pay for some help for the bigger ones. That will be my upcoming week.

    1. I hope you have great success with your lettuce. It is probably a good time to plant. Happy pruning and of you need help go for it. We all need help now and then - big trees are hard to prune.
      Have a super week.

  8. I have so many bloomed flowers. So pretty.

I have potatoes, radishes, lettuce, and a whole bunch of unknown plants growing. We had been throwing vegetable scraps out into a garden bed and now we have tons of stuff just growing so we're just going to leave it alone and see what happens. I bought a really small greenhouse at Aldi a while back and got some seeds out in it. I also picked up free seeds at the library .

We finally got our taxes done (husband is a major procrastinator). We're getting enough back that will pay for a large portion of my gallbladder surgery.

I cut my hair and the kids' hair at home. I swung by the clearance section at Walmart after picking up my prescription and found 2 bags of Huggies for $2 each. I'll pass those on for my great nieces and nephew.

My husband got a small raise for performance. He's been seriously worried about losing his job (ending contracts, company focusing more on AI usage instead of human workers), so it was a huge surprise. It's not enough to really make a difference, but every little but helps.

    1. Love that you have flowers blooming. How fun on the garden - that sounds like a neat experiment. I hope you get a lot of goodies.
I am glad you are getting a refund and that it will help pay a bill. Too bad it isn't for fun - but paying a bill is good too.
Congrats to hubs on the raise. Pennies make dollars - and he still has a job!
      Sounds like a good week.
Have a special week ahead - hope you are healing well.

  9. A Lamp to my Feet and Light to my path.... excellent thought there. Thank you!
Yesterday we sang at a funeral and it went well.
The forecast was rain, but it went somewhere else. Still dry as dust here.
Chilly, but not chilly enough for heat. :)

    1. God is such a lamp and light for us all.
Glad the singing went well. I wish you get some of the rain that keeps going that direction. It is always moving east - just not far enough south I guess.
      Have a lovely week.

  10. I'm glad to read that your family is doing well, that is such a blessing.
I'm looking forward to a quieter week, just pottering around and getting more organized after a very busy previous four weeks.
I'm not going anywhere, staying put and getting home back on track. I did have a funeral to attend on Tuesday but this has been cancelled and the family have opted for a private cremation, seems a lot of family are unwilling to travel due to cost of gas.
I loved your Chuck story, you have Guard cats instead of Guard dogs, and obviously they take their job very seriously.
    Take care, Louise.

    1. Glad you are taking a slower week. I imagine you need the rest.
I well imagine the price of gas may have something to that. Seems a lot will do private with just memorials lately. I imagine cost is a factor.
      Yes, guard cats!
      Have a great week.

  11. Really foggy here this morning, but the sun is shining and the temperature rose. That will probably change later in the week as snow is once again being talked about.
How wonderful that your family is getting better.

    God bless.

  12. Can Persy come to Michigan and help me out with the critters. Love that! It snowed today and there is a freeze tonight. Our weather has been wild. I'm done with it. Hope your week is good and I'm glad to hear everyone is getting better.
