Hello all, and welcome to the last Sunday of April! Can you believe it? Time is sure flying by.
It is a cooler morning here, but still very nice. We had a storm fly through on Friday - it got scary for a few minutes. The sirens went off and the winds just came out of nowhere. We had rain a couple times on Friday, and we did need it. Seems every time they predict rain, my area gets nothing.
The grapes are forming bunches on the vines out back, and the raspberries are blooming. The first of the poppies have opened. Oh, those big bright orange beauties! This week I just did what I wanted, when I wanted. I got in no rush. I slowly did things and still had a lot of rest time.
My frugal week:
- Had a meeting with my financial guy here at the house - all good
- Made a batch of frozen yogurt/fruit bars
- Made a pot of soup - used a pack of long grain &wild rice soup mix (gift) - but used pork broth (freezer) instead of water, and less than it called for. Added 4 C beans (freezer) and chopped ham (freezer). Goodness it was good, some of the best soup I have made in ages. Ate on it and froze 2 containers for later
- Trimmed the back forsythia bushes (4) - they sure got wild looking quickly. Looks neat now
- Mowed and trimmed the entire yard
- I got the rain barrels out and set up
- Pulled weeds in areas hard to reach with weed whacker
- Paid everything I had in house for early May, including property taxes
- Cooked up a pound of sausage in patties and froze most of them for easy use
- NO groceries
- Polished the kitchen cabinets
- Walked, napped and porch set - off and on
- Aired the house a lot this week. No heat or AC (heat on last Sunday night only)
- Just doing all the normal stuff
Meals this past week:
Shredded pork (freezer) over fries w/cheese and slaw
Wild rice/bean/ham soup
Soup again
Chicken breast and broccoli salad
Cheese spread w/crackers and broccoli salad
Sausage/egg sandwich and salad
Goulash (made w/broc. added)
SNACKS - yogurt bars, peanut butter on toast, pb & apple, fruit
Overall, a pretty good week. Kept busy, but not overly busy. Seems there is always so much to be done, but I am at the point in life - if it gets done, great - if not, well it wasn't that important.
How was your week? Did you get any good deals? Did you get any planting done? (still waiting here)
Look forward to hearing from each of you. I do believe we all inspire each other, and that is pretty cool.
Stay super safe and healthy this week. Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.
Don't stress the small stuff.

I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; yea, wait for the Lord!
Psalms 27:13-14
Dear Lord, we thank You for all the blessings we received this week. Help us each have courage, faith and strength to face all that is put before us. Even when we don't see an answer, we know You are working on our hearts and helping us to grow our faith stronger. Waiting isn't a sign of disapproval from You, it is a growing time for us.
Thank You for being with us at all times, and give us patience in all things, as they happen in Your time.
AMEN

I can only laugh when you speak of blooms; there was a wicked spring snow storm again this past wk that went on for 3 days. Enough already! I enjoyed a pedicure, a Christmas gift. Such a treat. Then off to watch the neighbor little at her gymnastics achievement day. My sister tells everyone she's 42 but I know better. I took her out for her birthday lunch on Tues. The annual cemetery meeting is in the books. We've lost 2 champions of our local cemetery in the past year. There's so much history in a cemetery. The annual medical appointment is in the books complete with lab work all done. My blood pressure is creeping up & that needs to be monitored. I'm so reluctant to start on antihypertensives. Shingles were priced as that's a job that needs to be contracted out before the next winter. And I bought garden seeds, ever hopeful that gardening season will come. I attendeded the funeral of a neighbor. There was the usual house frau-ing for the week & I did manage to get a door frame painted, something on the last few to-do lists. In the kitchen: chicken noodle soup; chicken chili; borscht from the freezer. Enjoy your blooms!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed - enough already. Hoping you get some better weather soon. I have never had a professional mani or pedi - that sounds relaxing.
DeleteSounds like a busy and eventful week. I am a cemetery lover. I have always been fascinated by them and the history they hold. We used to travel to a lot of OLD cemeteries back in the day - so many untold stories and history.
Glad you had a lunch with sis - LOL on the age thing!!!
Sounds like a good week to me.
Have a lovely week ahead.
Wonderful prayer and Psalm, thank you. Glad your storm passed through without becoming an adventure…
ReplyDeleteAll good here. I am working very diligently to make sure I have the right priorities, which for me is faith. Funny how suddenly at age 69 it has become my priority ;). I am thankful it came before it was too late. I deliberately emptied my May calendar and so have a peaceful month coming up, I had gotten into the practice of being too busy and spending too much money having lunches with friends and decorating. I am looking forward to a very quiet month! Take care and I hope your weather is calm. Hilogene in Az.
You are welcome. That storm blew in in an instant, I had no idea it was coming. All good here, so that is a good thing. Many further west did not have such a good outcome.
DeleteGood for you on slowing down and 'finding' what is important. Faith is so important in my book, and I am glad you have found it. All in God's time and when we need it!
I hope you have a special month and I bet you love the slowing down process!
Have a great week.
I thought about you when that storm blew thru, being north of you we got tail end wind and rain. It was so strange the way it just appeared up here.
ReplyDeleteMy grapes were severely pruned this year as they were seriously overgrown. No blossoms yet and there may not be much but it is leafy and so much better looking.
My buckeye trees have shot their "candles" and the bees are finding and loving them.
I have a lot of seedlings in the pop up greenhouse hardening off and looking good. I won't plant them out until closer to Mothers day.
Meals have been mostly veggies, off red meat for a while, just doesn't appeal. Only dairy bought this week, for me to make yogurt.
Possible strong storms moving thru again on Monday night. This month seems to have flown by although February seemed to last forever.....
JC
That storm sure seemed to come out of nowhere. I knew it was to rain - but the wind hit quick and strong.
DeleteI cut back the older stock on grapes last fall - so I have bunches! I probably won't have as many as usual - but some is better than none. Hope you get some. I have never seen a buckeye tree.
Yay on the plants - yes, Mothers Day is our best time. A veggie diet is just fine, whatever fills you up and makes you happy,
Yep, another storm coming and a late night one - I hate those.
Have a good week. Stay safe.
Glad you didn’t get any bad weather. I flew out West for my annual trip to visit grandbabies… and their parents… lol. I am about to fly back to Atlanta and dread the plane trip and then the long drive home.
ReplyDeleteI loathe flying but will do it for grandkids.
I have to stop on the way home from the airport to get groceries for the week. I am always jet lagged so this should be fun…. lol. Have a fantastic and safe week! Cindy in the South
Glad you got to visit kids and grandkids. I hope it was a good trip. Good thing I don't have family elsewhere, that I want to see - because this girl refuses to fly anymore. I have before, but not for years.
DeleteI hope you get home safely and get some rest - you will need it.
Have a lovely week.
Excellent devotional! We need to wait on the Master, not run ahead. Boy howdy, that is so hard for me to do but I have to rely on Him, His grace and mercy. I used to despair of wakening in the wee hours but now I realize that I need to listen for His voice.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is a good meeting place and we can even show up in our pyjamas! Ha! I love your blog: 1) You are genuine; 2) You don't judge; 3) You respond to comments; 4) You are not ashamed to show your love for our Messiah.
That was one heck of a storm on Friday. The Miss Kim lilacs were weighed down with rain as was the big Japanese maple in the backyard. When we open the backdoor, the smell from the lilacs is so sweet and lovely. The bushes/trees are huge this year, loaded with blooms. Such a blessing. Going to go out and shred the branches Erin brought from her house. Probably won't get it all done but it's a perfect day to get quite a bit chopped. The finished product can be used in so many ways in the garden. One thing I noticed that is a must-do is to treat the rose bushes, as some dastardly thing is chomping on them. Hasn't stopped the blooming but it does need to be treated. Peonies are coming out and my black iris looks beautiful this year. When we moved here twenty-nine years ago, the backyard was almost all grass with maple trees. Grass is overrated! ha!
Enjoy this beautiful day we have been gifted!
I wake often in the middle of the night and sometimes start to fret about things - then I just pray and pray and usually fall back to sleep calmly.
DeleteYes mam, PJ's allowed!!!! Thank you - I appreciate your words. I try.
Glad your plants survived. Yep, it was a heck of a storm. The neighbor has a lilac and when I walk - oh, goodness the smell! The iris are gorgeous this year. My peonies aren't open yet. Buds, but no roses yet. I agree, grass is overrated! Wasted real estate.
It is beautiful - been out already.
Have a super week.
