Heat, Holiday, Question and This and That

Hello everyone.  I sure hope you are all well and staying cool.  It has been a scorcher around these parts.  79* this morning and going to mid 90's again.  Super high humidity.  There are so many areas being affected by the heat.  I sure hope all are finding ways to stay cool and hydrated.  PLEASE make sure you leave some water outside for any animals passing through.  Wild or domestic - it is just too hot to not be able to get water.

This weekend we celebrate the 250th birthday of our country.  We have endured so much in that time and here we are still standing strong.  Not being political at all, I am just a proud American.  My ancestors were here before this was the United States - they came in 1736 because of religious persecution - so I have a long history of family here.  In some branches there has been marriage with indigenous people as well.  There has been someone from the family in every conflict as ordered - some lived and some died.
Regardless of your political views or thoughts of anyone in charge - this is still your country.  Do all you can to be a good American and show grace to others.
Spread kindness ONLY.
***************

I have much to do outside, but it will all wait.  The tiger lilies are all done now, and there are hundreds of stems out there to be deadheaded - they will wait.  I need to get out the power washer and take care of some things - it will wait (although that might feel good!).  Weeds to pull - waiting!
It is just to dang hot out there.
The cats are staying out of the sun and trying to stay cool.  Lots of fresh water available for them and other birds and animals.  Mainly they have been spending the hottest part of the day under the shed.  Smart kitties.
***************

Just a NOTE - as of July 12 - postage stamps increase in price again.  They will go from .78 to .82.  Now is the time to get Forever stamps for the long haul.  They won't go bad and will be able to be used forever!
I know we all get tired of increases, but I still find that a deal.  I can mail a payment, much cheaper than I could visit an office.  I can send a card to cheer someone - for a good price.  I know there is the Internet - but sometimes we just need to do something a bit more personal.
***************

$$$$$$ - Let me know what kind of posts you want to see.  I know in the summer and around holidays views and comments drop some - so I just want to keep those reading entertained and informed.
$$$$$$ - Anything special you want to see?  Let me know.  I will try!!!
***************

Have a lovely weekend, no matter where you live.  Stay safe and healthy.
Donna - I hope you and yours are ok.  It is extremely unusual for you not to comment daily.
Be blessed all - and celebrate responsibly and safely.

Have a wonderful day!

  1. "Regardless of your political views or thoughts of anyone in charge - this is still your country. Do all you can to be a good American and show grace to others." What a nice thing to say, to think, to keep and to do! :)

First thing today is to water the poor potted plants because it will be so hot. Then shut up the house, pull the blinds down tight, close the windows and find some nice useful thing to do indoors. It'll cool down eventually. :)

Can't really say I'm "proud" to be American as I had nothing to do with it. But I sure am *happy* to be American. I'd rather be here than anyplace else I know of - except heaven itself. :) Happy Birthday, dear country that I love. :)
Stay cool, y'all, and be careful with those fireworks!

    1. Well, Mary that is how I feel. I try to be the best I can be every day.
You bet - the plants will all be thirsty! I hate keeping the house closed up, but it sure helps keep it cooler. Yes, this too shall pass!
There you go - HAPPY to be!!!!! I wouldn't want to be any place else either.
Stay cool and have a great weekend.

  2. No hot weather for me. I’m in Glasgow, Scotland and it is 62 F. (high for the day) and windy. It’s 2 p.m. here and I’m taking a break at my hotel after walking around the city this morning. Tomorrow will be a full day tour to the countryside north of here so I’m taking it easy today. For me, that is the beauty of independent travel.

As a history major, the 250th would be wonderful to celebrate but it’s been politicized in “America” - as they call the U.S. here - so I’m glad I’ll be here in Scotland.

I am using two credit cards that each have no currency conversion fee. One cc is for the hotels. The other is all other - food, bus, trains that I didn’t book ahead, souvenirs, phone charger (left mine at the hotel in the far north) and entry fees. I have a one-month vpn for my phone so was able to check the total $$ spent securely for that second cc yesterday - $512.75 so not bad at all! I still have a few more days here. I also had about £130 in cash and still have about £40 left. I am making a crazy side trip on Sunday so saving the cash for that day. Barbara M.

    1. 62 sounds lovely right now!!! I love that you are seeing so much and enjoying yourself. Definitely a trip of a lifetime.

I see it politicized only if that is how I chose to see it. I see a lovely celebration of endurance and freedom.

That is a great idea on funding the trip and paying for things. It sounds like you have done really well!!!! Make the best of your time left there and enjoy that 'crazy side trip'. Look forward to hearing about that!

  3. Have a Glorious Fourth, Cheryl and everyone! God Bless America.
As far blog topics, I always enjoy everything. Especially any super-simple recipes or complete menu ideas. (You know I'm always nagging you for a cookbook LOL) Your devotional messages are great. Would also be interested in any books and movies everyone is enjoying.

    1. Thank you so much and yes God Bless America!!
Thanks for letting me know. I love giving simple menu ideas and recipes. Glad to know others appreciate them. Still contemplating doing a cookbook/family early history type book. I guess I need to make a decision on that!
I never think much about books and movies - but that is good too. I am not a big movie person, but do like some TV documentaries and such.
Thanks and have a good one.

  4. We live in a great country, no matter a person's political leaning. I look at America as one of God's greatest blessings. I totally agree with Miss MaryB's reiteration of your statement regarding being an American. I think this attitude is also a spiritual one, showing gratitude for all our blessings. It was interesting to see the reactions of FIFA visitors to America. They had been told many things about this country that were not true and they were pleasantly surprised at how friendly and helpful American are. I definitely got a kick out of the Scots wearing their kilts and putting traffic cones on the heads of statues. Many of the visitors also helped to clean up the mess in the stadiums.

Yesterday got away from me and I realized that I hadn't read your post. I did last night but was too wiped out from being out in the heat to respond. I appreciate your concern!

We went out very early to tend to necessities in the garden. The Farmer fed plants and watered. I picked red raspberries. cucumbers and banana peppers, and putzed around with some small tasks. Everything is blooming or has already set fruit. We have tiny ears of corn that are showing the silk. Very uncomfortable to be out very long. The 30 day forecast shows temps in the upper 80's. I seriously doubt if they can predict that far ahead, but who knows. I am antsy to get back outside, just not in this at this time.

Have a lovely weekend! Remember this is Indiana...the weather can change on a dime...

    1. Glad to know you are ok. See people notice!!!
I do believe there is a lot of spiritual to it as well. Just blessed and grateful to have been born here in the land of opportunity and wealth. So blessed.
I have totally enjoyed seeing all the reactions visitors are having to coming here for the first time. Many are hysterical and others just realized they have been lied to.
I go out early each day as well. How nice to be picking 'grow'ceries! I am picking a few too. Love it.
It is very uncomfortable out there. I see that on the monthly forecast - even hotter than now at the end of month. Who knows - it can all change on a dime - yep Indiana just wait 15 minutes.
Enjoy and stay in and cool.

  5. Thanks for the heads up re the stamps. Was not aware of that & I send a fair amount of cards-notes so will help to get a little ahead. I remember when I was little-a stamp was .05-crazy but I agree-still cost effective. Hope your weather moderates soon. We have heat & there are quite a few large fires around us & in Eastern Utah. The smoke is very bad -most days the mountains around us disappear. Praying for the people who have lost property & especially for the families of the 3 fire fighters who lost their lives last weekend. So incredibly sad. We are all so thankful for the hard work these brave fighters do on behalf of our communities & our wildlands. Such extreme weather all over the country-lots to pray about . Hope you stay cool & have a nice 4th. With all the issues still a great country. Lil

    1. You are welcome. I just happened to hear about it - never saw it on the news or anything. So I figured it may someone else to get enough stamps to help for a long while.
It will moderate - it is July and it and Aug. are usually hot - but this is really hot! The fires are so sad. I have friends in CO that are fairly close to some there. Not just homes and property, but all the animals. Those brave men and women are just phenomenal in what they do. So sad for their families.
Thanks and you as well. Yes mam, it is a great place and we should be thankful for what we do have.

  6. In the 90's here in Nebraska too. Low's only in the 70"s so we have been leaving our 2 window A/C units on overnight too when usually we can open the windows when it gets cooler outside. I suppose our electric bill will skyrocket upward :) but we are thankful we have the A/C's. When raising our kids we did not have it but our old farmhouse had lots of windows and a whole house fan we turned on at night. Cooled the house down and created lots of breezes. I take care of my garden chores, early or late. It helps.

    1. The heat seems to be all over the place. So thankful for the invention of AC!!!! You take care and try to stay in.
I will be happy to pay the higher bill, just to have the AC. We didn't have it when I was a kiddo either. Bedrooms were upstairs, so we often slept on the living room floor on pallets in front of the door! Fan blowing. Here we are - we survived!
Good to take care of those chores early.
      STAY COOL!
