Morning to all. Hope you are well and safe. Kind of gloomy out here today - supposedly we may see peeks of sun. We will see!
We have all had ONE of those days!! You know those days, where things go wrong, or people disappoint, or you just feel blah! Yep.
Yesterday - the guy came about 4:40 to fasten the wires. I watched from inside and just kept shaking my head. He was having one of those days for sure. I don't know if he had a new battery drill he wasn't used to or if he was new or what - but that young man could not get that drill to work right. From in the house, I could tell what he was doing wrong - it took him 45 minutes to figure it out.
He obviously forgot "righty tighty - lefty loosey"! It was like he didn't realize his drill had a button to reverse his drill direction. I just kept shaking my head. Goodness.
Well, he finally got the simple connector in (with all kinds of tools and 1 hr. wasted) and fastened the wire. Then I saw him take down the ladder and was leaving the other wire laying on the garage. I went out to question. His comment "that wire does nothing - it isn't active". Me - WELL - why leave it???? I said you realize that will damage my shingles after a while of wind blowing it. So, after sighing - he removed that wire completely.
All is good - but I wonder about workmanship these days. I hope for his sake - it was JUST one of those days!!
It seems so often, no matter how we try it is 'damned if we do and damned if we don't'. I know we have all felt that way. Those are the things that make me sigh.
We try to do our best daily, that is all we can do. We all have failures.
When you have a day that things don't work out, or you fall of the frugal wagon, or you get that unexpected bill, etc. - don't give up!!!
Sigh all you want, feel sorry for yourself for a moment - then put on those big girl panties and get up and try again. ALWAYS TRY AGAIN!
Like we were taught with a classic childhood book - "I think I can, I think I can".
YES, you can. It isn't always easy. It isn't always a good day. It isn't always going to work. It isn't always going to be a simple thing. Nothing in this world worth having is really easy! It takes work and the "I CAN" attitude.
So, whatever you do today - do it with joy and with happiness and with a good attitude.
Today is a gift - it truly is.
Wishing you all a great day.
KEEP TRYING!
Leaving a dead wire lying there must be universal. I found such a thing in my woods dangling from a utility pole. It's been there for years now. Obviously it's not a problem to anyone. But *Why?*.
ReplyDeleteYes, there are difficult days - we all get them - and sometimes it seems the best reaction is to go back to bed and take a nap. Start over. ;) That's not a Big Girl response, is it... ;)
I'm glad you got the wiring issue fixed, Cheryl. Our weather is clearing and warming up so I'll be able to get back out in the garden and do a few jobs the rain curtailed.
MaryB
I don't understand it - it took just a minute or two to remove - why not just do that to start? No extra unsightly wires!
DeleteOh I have had those days too - naps can fix a lot!!
Today is gloomy - but it will be improving in a day or so. All good.
YES! They don't have the work ethic we had growing up. Just because it is dead doesn't mean you should leave it lying there. Of course, they could be SO busy that they need to move on, but come. on.
DeleteHi Cheryl ,I have been reading your blog for several years now. I really look forward to reading your frugal ideas. I have just got up enough courage to start my own blog. I might even start a second one. Today’s blog was just what I needed. Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteLisa
Hi Lisa. So happy to have you here - glad to have you comment. You will have to let us know the name of your blog - so we can all check it out. I always try to support other bloggers.
DeleteGlad the words today spoke to you. Some days I have no idea what to write about - and then I have an idea come in my head - IT is guiding me!!!
Let us know and visit again soon.
Read Atlas shrugged and you'll understand why he couldn't use a simple drill and why he left the wire.
ReplyDeleteNo one wants to be bothered to do a job correctly nowadays. Plus they all want to be paid top dollar for doing it.
I went to the grocery store and purchased boars head ham.
I told the young man do not shave it. I want it in slices. This ham is almost 14 dollars a pound. I rarely buy it only once in a blue moon.
I get it home not only did he shave it he also packed it hard.
It couldn't be used for anything.
I chopped it up and used it in omelettes.
I would have taken it back but I live in the country a fair distance from the grocery store. Which, by the way is the most
expensive in town. They have always been known for their customer service.
I fear those those days are done.
I had a wire down for internet. Despite it being dark, drizzly, having a fever, the woman told me to go look as it was back up. So, I had to tell her I could see the wire on the ground. She insisted it was up. I guess my lying eyes were at it again. The guy had reported it repaired.
DeleteYou may be quite right about "Atlas Shrugged". Things do seem to be heading that direction. Unfortunately I haven't enough skill or talent to be among the select. :( I'll just have to cope with the breakdown.
DeleteMaryB
I am agree with the "Atlas Shrugged" too. That seems to be the way today - just get by and that is good enough. So little ambition or pride in things.
DeleteI try to fix what I can, and I can use tools - was taught that long ago. It really is a sad state today. Sure doesn't speak well of society.
That is just a bummer about the ham - that is expensive and then have them not listen!
I think your young man was new to his work, or perhaps he worked with a partner who used the equipment. I bet he won't forget now.
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely sunny, but started out cold. It's warming up nicely, we might even make it to the freezing mark this afternoon.
I thought new as well - then he started talking about all these places he has been and working in the rain and not doing poles then. So I figured he had been around awhile. He was alone - so maybe someone else always used the tools.
DeleteNo I doubt he forgets now.
Glad you are warming up - hope it stays for you!
The labor trades are so short staffed that they send people out with very little or no training.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that too. It is so hard to get people to work. Poor kid - hope he remembers now!
DeleteOh we have all had days like that. Poor young fellow, I hope things improved for him after that.
ReplyDeleteYou are right though, even when we feel like giving up, walking away, crawling into bed, we have to continue on. ( this pep talk is actually to motivate me to keep going with my spring cleaning, I have stuff everywhere and not a lot to show for two days work, except aggravated sinuses Ugh!! ) Louise
Yep - I have had those days too. It was close to the end of the day - so maybe he was tired. He must have went up and down that ladder 20X - I wondered if he finally went to the truck to Google what he was doing wrong!
DeleteIt seems we make a much bigger mess cleaning than leaving it alone!! LOL - I know I do. Take an allergy pill and keep going - you got this!
Oh wow! It has gotten so very hard to hire anyone reliable t do any work for us. I don't know what we would have done without the neighbor kids who work for us. They know what is expected because that is what their parents expect.
ReplyDeleteIt truly has gotten harder and harder to find good reliable help. I am glad you have the neighbors to help you. That is huge. They sound like they were brought up well!
DeleteBack when we were first married I let Harvey do the shopping as he was in town and I had no way of getting from the village we lived in (it was his turn to drive). The list I made for him was ground meat, pork chops, and a roast. He brought home ground pork, pork
ReplyDeletechops, and a pork roast...... Guess I should have specified ground beef, and a beef roast.
God bless.
LOL - oh my goodness! Guess that is proof that we should be very specific when giving instructions! At least he didn't have it ALL ground!!!!
DeleteI love this post Cheryl. Thanks ! Cindy/WV
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome Cindy.
DeletePoor fellow, he needed a lesson in Drills.101! Good thing you said something about the flapping wire. Maybe he got smarter as they day went on. Love the cartoon! Things can get misinterpreted. Have to be very clear and make sure the other person knows what you mean.
ReplyDeleteA guy was speeding and ran a red light, totaling Erin's car Tuesday evening. No one was hurt but he hit her hard enough that his car was not drivable. Must have been his first accident because he told the policeman all about it, how he was looking for something in his console and how fast he was going. Now to look for another vehicle that she can afford.
It was close to the end of the day - so hopefully his next day was better!
DeleteYes, many things get misinterpreted, no matter how we try sometimes.
Oh no. So glad no one was hurt. Hers isn't fixable? Bummer. I hope all goes well with that hunt. Dang, it is always something!
She was able to drive her car to her house about a mile away. His car could not be driven. She showed me the pictures of her damage. It was a 2004 with almost 200K miles. *sigh* Back to praying for a car!
DeleteUnreal that he was going to leave that wire there. I don't know what it is with some people these days, but they don't want to do a thorough job at things like cleaning up afterwards. It's so different from the world we grew up in back when we were young.
ReplyDeleteI know! If it isn't live or needed - why in the world would you just leave it? I wouldn't. Glad I was paying attention.
DeleteThings are different for sure.
