Hello to all on this last day of April. Hope you are all well. It is a beautiful morning here today. Looks like by the end of the day, we will be back into rain again. It has been such a wet April - sure hope that says something about May's growing season!
Yesterday was rain off and on a lot of the day and the humidity was unreal. I had forgotten how uncomfortable humidity was! I managed to make my outing, and it was dry upon my going and I came home in a downpour - but all is good, and I made it safely.
Today I am going to post a couple of items of things we should all be doing for our personal health and well-being and then a couple natural/homemade recipe ideas. We need to stay on top of our health by doing as much as WE personally can. Taking care of ourselves is important - and doing some of the simplest things help.
Water is essential to all living things. It is so important. I know so many people who say "I can't drink plain water" - odds are you don't want to! Add a piece of fruit or a cucumber slice for a bit of flavor and DRINK! I love ice cold water most days, but especially when I am hot! I always keep a jug of water in the fridge. I have a couple bottles I refill myself, as I do not buy bottled water.Water is not just for mornings in my house!
Again - so important to life. It does so much more than we think. I am outside at least a little bit 365 days a year - no matter the weather. I do not feel alive unless I get fresh air and sunshine. When I get up each day and it gets daylight, I let the sunshine in my home until it gets too hot. This is something I have always NEEDED.
Many people can't have salt. I do really like salt and it doesn't really bother me much - but there are so many ways to get wonderful flavors in your cooking and salads and such without salt. Put together your own blends of seasoning. Whatever you like!! You can use something like these or just make up your own. You know exactly what is in it and can adjust to any palette.

I truly attribute my good health to enjoying the outdoors and sun, and fresh air and just getting out and moving each and every day.

You can make your own specialty sauces as well. Sauces and dressings are really easy, often using the simple ingredients that we keep on hand all the time.Click on pic to enlarge for easier reading.
Funny - I do always keep a small bottle of Fireball whiskey on hand (called for in the Fireball BBQ sauce above). No, I cannot stand whiskey, but I keep a small bottle for making a "hot toddy" in case of cold or flu. I have always made that if I feel like I am getting sick, and it has always done the trick. I cannot remember the last time I took a store-bought cold med.
So get out and enjoy that sunshine and fresh air - drink that water and stay hydrated and help yourself stay a little healthier.
Make a mix on your own and have a healthier version of store-bought. No added ingredients you can't pronounce or don't know what they are!
Take your life back and make it wonderful.
Have a beautiful Wednesday!
We know that wheat or dairy affects people so why not the less than natural ingredients in processed foods?
ReplyDeleteI grew up drinking water. It was free so that's what mom gave us. Milk was for breakfast. We had soda at home occassionally if it was on sale.
I read about the health benefits of a Mediterranean diet but didn't see any mention of being in the sunshine. Those folks are outside a lot! I think sunshine is overlooked as a health requirement!
Oh those 'less than natural' things are disastrous! I think that is a huge problem with heath today.
DeleteThe hose was our friend when playing outside in the summer. And mom made iced tea, or we had water. Yes, milk was breakfast.
Sunshine is just so advantageous to us all. It is essential in my life, or my mental and physical health will waiver.
Pinned your postings this morning. Have to try the sauces. The seasoning mixes all sound good. I like salt but too much does make my BP go up. Moderation in all things. Water is a superior drink to anything else. Fresh air (as fresh as it can get in the city) is vital with wonderful sunshine on your face. There is a dental office down the road called Sonshine. Thought that was a good name.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful day! Since rain is predicted later, this morning I'm going to clean out one of the sheds and get rid of no longer used items. Too easy to put things aside and say, "later, I'll deal with that later". I won't even mention the garage.
Enjoy this fabulous day!
Homemade seasonings of all sorts are so easy to make. I just like knowing what is in them!
DeleteYes, that is the key - moderation.
I drink a lot of water, especially the older I get. For some reason it is just better to me now. I need sunshine.
Lovely, lovely morning. Been doing odds and ends this morning - oh the shed - that reminds me I need to do mine! UGH. The garage is just overwhelming.
These are all great tips. We drink a LOT of water and always have. People don't realize how important it is to our bodies. Dehydration can do so much damage to our bodies.
ReplyDeleteMy mom always said the sun can cure most things and I believe she was right. When I was 5 I had surgery that left me with a lot of stiches on my stomach. When I came home she moved my bed to where the sun was streaming in and told me it would make it feel better and it did.
Good for you. It is just so fresh and clean. yes, people can become dehydrated and not realize it.
DeleteI believe your mom was right. I mean we put things out in the sun to de-germ them and refresh them - why not our bodies? Natural things just make it all better for our bodies!
My great-grandmother believed in a hot toddy with peppermint in it. Thanks for the recipes above. I saved it for future use!
ReplyDeleteI have never used peppermint - but that is good for the belly. I usually use, lemon juice, honey, whiskey and hot tea. It works every time. Good glad you found something you may use!
DeleteI am firm believer in Sunlight, I definitely do better when I have some sunshine. Thanks for the sauce mixes.
ReplyDeleteYou and me both! It is such a mood enhancer.
DeleteYou are more than welcome!
Sometimes, when it is -40C and feels like -50C my outside is just standing on the front deck for a minute or two. If those cold days are sunny, I will stand in front of the window for a bit and soak up the sunshine.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
That is cold, but at least you try! Yes, we need to get that sun any way we can. It sure does help lift a mood!
DeleteFresh air and sunshine are the best tonic and it sure aids in sleeping too!
ReplyDeleteI agree 100%. It seems those days I spend those most time outdoors, I sleep best.
Delete6 doctors: sunshine, exercise, water, fresh air, rest, nutrition.
ReplyDeleteEverything in moderation, including moderation.
Love it! So true. That is the key to life - everything in moderation!
DeleteI always have iced tea concentrate in the refrigerator, but now that it's getting into fresh fruit and veggie time, I plan to make more of my hydration in the form of infused waters.
ReplyDeleteI also do whatever I can to avoid salt and high sodium foods. Here's hoping for more sunshine and natural vitamin D!
i drink a lot of fruit water. I make sparkling water with the Soda Stream and a little fruit juice. I love it.
DeleteI am a salt person - but really try to not go overboard.
Yes, on the sunshine. Get it when you can!
I really love plain water. Flavors of any kind in water is verboten for me. I have to have sunshine every day, even if it is just having it stream through the window.
ReplyDeleteMany just don't do plain water - although it is so refreshing. So if we can get them to drink it with a little flavor - that is good.
DeleteSame here, I NEED sunshine. It changes everything for me.
My cup is filled with plain water today, it’s one of my favorite drinks.
ReplyDeleteSimple, cheap and refreshing and it has health benefits to boot! Good for you!
DeleteCheryl, I came across this article about egg substitutes in baking and thought you might be interested.

Thank you so much. I know we all look for alternatives in all kinds of things. Appreciate you thinking of us!!!
DeleteGreat post. I drink a lot of water 💧 I especially love the flavour of lime, lemon, watermelon 🍉 or cucumber. I stopped drinking soft drinks 3 years ago and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
ReplyDeleteDrinking plain hot water in the morning helps to keep the bowel working and can help to alleviate or even prevent constipation.
