Hello to all - wishing you all a great day. Hope this finds everyone healthy and safe.
It was above freezing this morning when I got up!! That was a first in ages. We are to get in the 50's today. Yesterday was in the 40's and there was melting going on. The rest of the week will be decent temps (not like today), but so happy to see warmer temps and no precipitation for the week. We broke all kinds of records in IN this January for cold days and snow.
Everything is still white - so much snow. It will take a bit of time to be all gone. The paths that I had shoveled out back are now melted and you can see the ground finally. The outdoor kitties yesterday were sure enjoying the sunshine. They were all out on the deck and handrails soaking up sun most of the day. It is so fun to watch the youngsters play and 'try' to learn to hunt!
38 DAYS UNTIL SPRING!!!!!!!
The chickens 2 doors down were out for the first time in what seems like weeks, yesterday. It was fun to see them again.
I never told you about another cat that showed up right before the extreme cold and snow happened. I called the poor baby Persy - for perseverance. I saw the poor thing around my shed at the first of the year - it had a severe large open wound on its back left hind quarter. It had skin and fur hanging from it. That leg was not working. I tried to catch it to take to vet, no go. I tried to trap - no go. I really didn't think it could survive but maybe a couple days. The wound was BAD!
Well, it moved over to the under the shed across the alley for a while, but came here to eat and drink. How you ask? It literally climbed the fence to get here. During all the snow days - it stayed here. The other cats treated it kindly and never tried to pick on it. It even seemed to watch over the little ones, so momma could get a break. It ate and drank and stayed and stayed - healing. It would sit in the sun on even the cold days. The spot finally healed up pretty well, that tag of skin dropped off, and it started using its leg again! It has now moved on in the past couple days - I am hoping it maybe 'went home'. I am just thankful that it came here and got nourishment and shelter and kindness.
I couldn't tell if an animal got it or if it had been hit by a car (my thought is car) - but that sweet baby survived with perseverance!
A good lesson for us all!

I would like to ask a favor please. Please send kind thoughts or prayers up for my sis, Marcella. She is in the hospital. They thought at first maybe she had a heart attack - but that was not the case (thank God). She has a terrible UTI. It has affected everything about her. She fell twice in one day (and is so sore), it messed up blood pressure, train of thought, sugar levels, you name it. This is what happened the last time she went in the hospital.
The doc has kept her on meds, but never increased them, and her body just adjusted and it came back with a vengeance. She had been doing soooo good lately - she is very dejected. We are hoping she can get back to her little apartment real soon! Please, just a little prayer of healing for her body and her spirit.
She may be 94 - but we aren't ready to let go yet!
Thanks!

I often times wonder about some of my neighbors! LOL. It is amazing how much trash these people put out. We have big containers that get picked up weekly, and many have them so full, they can't close. I put mine out last week for the first time in a month - I could have waited longer. I know many have more than one living there, but it just amazes me. Some eat take out every single day, some shop every day, others - I just have to wonder. I just can't comprehend never thinking a bit about what this is doing to the earth, let alone the pocketbook!
One family on the other side of the alley, puts out major appliances and/or furniture about every 3 or 4 months! How does that even happen? Luckily, we have a 'metal' guy come up the alley everyday checking - and he gets anything metal, recycles it by selling to a recycling center.
I won't tell you how old my stuff is!
Ok, just random thoughts today - my mind is all over the place. LOL
I hope you all have a beautiful day and that maybe your weather is improving too!
BE KIND!

So happy to read that the injured cat seems to have healed up. You offered sanctuary. :)
ReplyDeleteToday the forecast is for the 60s! What a surprise. That's the high for the week by a long shot, no other days are even near that. Sunny too, so I'll open the blinds before going to work, let the sun shine in to heat the house.
Some days seem just scattered. I think Sunday was one of those for me, I took naps both morning and afternoon - not long naps, but lay down and fell sound asleep. Yesterday was much better, I was busy and got some things done - even went outside and picked up sticks from the wind we've had.
I keep holding on to "Spring is on the way". Have a good day, y'all. :)
MaryB
I feel it is my honor to help all the injured, and wayward animals.
Delete60's sounds wonderful. This will be our warmest as well - but nothing cold coming like before.
Those days sure happen to all of us. Some days I accomplish much other days nothing. Our way of weathering winter I believe.
It will be here soon!
Your sister will definitely be in my prayers! Seems to me like she should have been checked regarding the meds and adjusted as necessary. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeletePoor kitty! I would say the Great Physician healed it. Cute how it was "baby-sitting". We were awakened a couple nights ago with the most awful howling from a cat. People need to neuter their pets. Most likely there will be another litter of kittens that no one wants.
There was a hit and run with fatality not far from us this morning. Too many people are not responsible drivers these days.
Sunshine! Warmer temps! I stepped out on the back porch to let the dogs out and the traffic sounds so loud, due to the atmosphere, I'm sure. A plane went over the house early this morning and it sounded like it was 10 feet over us.
We have some families in our neighborhood who put out copious amounts of trash. Breaking down boxes and condensing trash would help. Just an extra step but it would make a difference. The trash company says they won't pick up cans that are overflowing.
Enjoy your day!
Thanks - and I think the same thing. Kids do as well.
DeleteI know the kitty just broke my heart - it looked so bad. I just tried to do what I could and yes, God healed this baby. It was awful, and there could be no other reason - really.
I heard about that hit and run on the news this morning. Seems that happens so often. How do you hit and person (or animal) and just leave??? So heartless.
Some days it is that way here with the train horn. I love the sound - and some days it sounds like it is in the backyard!
People just have so much rubbish - I don't get it. It really amazes me. So much throw away stuff today.
Cheryl, I have thinking of your sister for quite some time now and wondering how she was doing. I'm sorry to hear of the UTI and the falling. Those infections sure mess a body up. I will be praying for her. So glad to hear that the kitty was able to rest and heal up at your cat sanctuary. I hope your snow and ice melt soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Laurie - I have meaning to ask you about your brother. He has been on my mind lately.
DeleteYes, those infections can really wreak havoc on the entire body. It sure is amazing.
Thanks, it seemed like a nice kitty, just shy - and I can't blame it, poor thing.
We are melting some today - but the level areas (yards) of snow are still white! It will take some time.
My brother is doing better. There are still some issues, like his right shoulder where he fell on it; he hurt the labrum. I'm not sure if that is the right spelling. But it has something to do with the shoulder. He's walking on his own and mostly his speach is back with some words harder than others to say. But all in all, he's still with us.
DeleteLaurie I am so happy to hear he is doing better. Glad to hear he is walking and talking again. He will most likely regain all the speech back. I hope his shoulder gets better.
DeleteJust having them here, is so wonderful. Many prayers for him and the family.
I’ll pray for your dear sister. UTIs can affect so many things including confusion. I hope that she will get back to her little apartment soon.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful day here. I replaced the bad closet doorknob at my old house. Ordered a matching one from HD ($26.08) since they didn’t have the finish I wanted in stock. (I have found that HD offers one-day, free delivery on many items.) Hardest part was removing the old doorknob because the plastic parts of the latch inside were broken. It was a pretty easy fix. Very proud of myself.
Finally I received the last two items for my taxes yesterday. Pretty sure I’m getting a decent refund so I’ll work on it in the next week or two. Barbara M.
Thank you! They can be devastating.
DeleteGlad things are fixed. I love that you try to do the things yourself. It feels good when you accomplish them.
Oh, I hope you get a nice refund. I have been very fortunate for a few years and have gotten nice ones too.
I’ll be praying for Marcella. UTIs terrible that way-my mom had diabetes and an uncorrectable UTI plus was wheelchair bound after her stroke. So I get it.
ReplyDeleteSo happy about kitty!
With2 was f us, we put out trash every 2 weeks and most of it it used cat litter - one bag. I don’t get it either!!!! - Carol
Thank you Carol. Sis has diabetes too - so that has been wonky, her blood pressure went nuts, and she was confused. They sure can be nasty infections.
DeleteI miss the little bugger, but glad it healed so well.
Mine is a lot of cat litter too! I create very little actual trash.
We have had record cold here, coldest since 1979, but today it climbed up to the freezing mark. I was so excited I walked to my mailbox without a coat (about 100’) and it felt so good.
ReplyDeleteI pray for a speedy recovery for your sister.
I enjoy your posts, always like a visit with a friend.
Hello - happy to have you here.
DeleteThe winter has been yucky for sure. We did pretty good until after Christmas, then it hit the fan. Cold, wind, SNOW! I'm done.
You sound like me, I was out in the yard picking up sticks with just my sweatshirt one today - felt like summer!
Thank you - I appreciate all prayers.
Stop by anytime. Thank you!
Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that cat had a safe place to rest and heal!!! I am also glad of the hope of spring is coming soon Praying for your sister.
Thanks - I try to take care of the creatures too. God gives us the hope of seasons and that is just beautiful.
DeleteThank you for the prayers.
I am glad that the cat healed so well. If there is anything we no longer want or use, we put it in the back alley and someone always picks it up. They get something they need and we get a bit more out of the house.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thanks.
DeleteThat is pretty much how it works around here too. People take good things or recycle things - of course old broken furniture and stuff is left for heavy trash day.
It is a nice way to share.
Cheryl, I have a bag of real trash about once a month, I pay for a rolling cart and the whole family uses it. I do recycle as much as possible and to be honest right now that section of my garage is full because I haven't been able to get to the recycle depot lately.
ReplyDeleteIt was glorious weather for us today, was able to drive to town for the first time in more than 3 weeks. Got some marked down shrimp and salmon. It felt so good to just be out.
Have sent up prayers for your sister and will continue to do so.
That poor kitty, I am glad it healed up, poor baby.
JC
See you don't have a lot either - it just amazes me how much trash some people make.
DeleteIt was beautiful today! Glad you got to town. I have only been out twice in the last 3 weeks - so I get it.
Thank you for the prayers.
I actually saw it today in a neighbors yard - it is looking pretty good. I agree, poor thing used a few lives on that one.
Sending good thoughts for your sister as she recovers. UTIs can cause havoc in elderly folk.
ReplyDeleteThe cat can teach us a lot about resilience.
I must admit I did buy some new furniture when I retired and moved 3 years ago, but all my old furniture went to good homes. Otherwise I try very hard to not have much disposable stuff, eg I always use old rags to clean and would never use paper plates.
So lucky down here that our extreme summer heat has finished and we will have the next few months of lovely summer. I so appreciate being outside in this weather, it is good for my mood too. No doubt mid year when it is freezing winter I will be complaining!
Thank you - and yes they can. Mom used to get them a lot too.
DeleteI agree - the kitty really wanted to survive - through all the cold and snow and catastrophic injury, it made it.
Oh heck, nothing wrong with buying new furniture - I sure need some. But some around here some folks seem to buy new every few months!
Glad your extreme heat is finished. You enjoy all those days - they do tend to make for a good attitude. I am always so happy to be outside. It was pretty today (even with all the snow left) and I was outside a while.
Sending positive thoughts for your sister. I do hope she is able to overcome the UTI.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear Persy made it through the tough weather. Poor baby!
Thank you. I sure hope so as well.
DeleteOne tough cat!
Here I have to pay for trash pickup and because I live on a dirt road they charge extra for that. I was only putting my cart out once a month also but still get charged the full month price. I finally decided I’d had enough of that and cancelled the end of January. The dump is about 10 miles away and household trash is free. One trip a month there will cost much less than the $41.20 I was paying each month.
ReplyDeleteJacki
I don't blame you at all. That sounds like a much better deal for you. Gas should not cost nearly that much.
DeleteSeems unfair to have to pay a whole month for one visit.
I am late, but will pray devoutly for your sisters recovery. I don’t think I knew her name was Marcella, such a pretty name. I went to scout with two sisters Marcella and Majella Holz. UTI’s are a damn nuisance, such a tiny thing that can blow out of all proportion very quickly. I hope she makes a swift recovery.
ReplyDeleteI am not a cat person but I hate to see any animal injured. You are a saint for providing him with shelter and food.
A fortnight ago we went to look at a potential property purchase, and the yard two doors down was absolutely full of all types of, sorry but no other word for it, CRAP. We asked the realtor what was going on there (thinking it was maybe an elderly person unable to keep up with their yard) and was told it was a young couple. I was shocked. Then the realtor disclosed there was no issue with them health wise, that’s how they chose to live. We put an offer in for the property which was accepted, so we will see what the yard looks like in July !!!!
Take care, Louise.
Thank you so much Louise - much appreciated. I probably never mentioned name before - just called her sis. They sure are - they can mess up everything about the body. I don't think a lot of people realize that.
DeleteI just try to help animals. I pretty much like them all (almost)!
Congrats on the new property! I sure wonder about people like that. It just seems trashy and lazy to me. They must not have any regard for other neighbors or the neighborhood.
I have one close by like that - and it sure is aggravating and just is disgusting for everyone else around.
UTI's send everything haywire. I do hope your dear sister is feeling much better soon.
ReplyDeleteA number of people near me have skips outside their houses at least once a year. The ones that mainly do this aren't having building work done etc. They are living in 'social housing', rented to people who for whatever reason can't afford to pay market rates. The skips pile up with all sorts of stuff, which seems strange considering these people supposedly can't afford to rent from private landlords.
Thanks - yes, it is a terrible infection.
DeleteIt is amazing how much people throw out. I see and hear people talk about how tight money is all the time, yet they spend on the silliest things and throw what looks like good things away. I don't understand.
I will be praying for your sister that she feels better and can go back to her apartment soon.
ReplyDeleteWe have alleys in our neighborhood, too, and there are always the same neighbors that have lots of trash every week. What gets me is that our city provides as part of our trash pick-up separate recycling bins. These same neighbors never use the bins, only the trash ones and they are overflowing.
I'm so happy about the injured kitty that was able to heal and hopefully go home. You gave it the help that was needed.
Thank you very much.
DeleteWe have to pay extra from a different company to have recycle bins, but people sure do pile up trash! They also put things out there for heavy trash day (one time a month). Even heavy trash will only take so much. It just amazes me how much money is actually thrown away every day!!
I wish I could have caught the cat and took to the vet, but I did my best.
Sending healing prayers for you sister and all of the family for comfort and support. UTI's can do so much damage to a person's body but you have said she is a fighter.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to hear that cat found your home to be able to heal, especially during such a snowy, cold time. That is just awesome.
We do not buy many packaged items, so our trash is never overflowing.
Thank you Lori. All prayers are sure appreciated. UTI's are very dangerous, especially for the elderly.
DeleteKitty came and visited this morning for a while - it seems to be doing well.
I try not to buy a lot of package goods - but with pets it is hard to not have trash.
