Hello all - Happy Palm Sunday. Here we are on the last Sunday of the month again. Time sure is flying by.
It was 36*F this morning when I got up and now up to 42*. Looks like 60's and 70's for the remainder of the week, with a bit of rain on many days.
Loved going out this morning and hearing the beautiful songs of all the birds, geese flying over and honking hello, and just seeing the world come back to life. There are more and more birds each week. Cowbirds, red-wing blackbirds, variety of woodpeckers, grackles, finches, cardinals, bluejays, etc.. The tulips are blooming now. Chucky the groundhog even made an appearance one day - came out and surveyed the yard and then disappeared again. Can't imagine it will stick around with all the cats here - they say they don't like the 'smell' from kitties and their urine.
Sis should get to go back home sometime later in the week. She will be back home in time for her 95th birthday. She will have extra help for a week or two just to get back into the normal ways of semi-independent living. So happy for her.
My frugal week:
- Worked on the front 'flower' bed across the front of the house. I moved a bunch of rock and then worked on reseating the metal trim/edging - then all the rock back in place. It was a straight edge before - I made it curving this time.
- Cleaned out the area between the garage and the fence - tons of leaves were there. It looks so much better
- Transplanted my chives from where they have been for years
- Took apart and emptied a really old and dilapidated whiskey barrel (where chives had lived)
- Got one good load of laundry done with the 'empty' soap bottle. Amazing how much soap was left in that seemingly empty bottle when turned upside down
- Used dehumidifier water in laundry
- Changed out handbag
- Taxes are done - quick and painless
- Mowed the front yard (back is still good) - started something - the next day 6 close by neighbors did the same!
- I have trimmed sections of my hair over the last couple weeks - it still looked rough - so I took the time to do a good cut and now it looks nice and even
- Picked wild onions
- Cleaned all the floors really well
- A few walks
- After taxes were done, I stopped at grocery just to see if any deals. Found several (only day I drove)
Fresh goods on clearance. Got the juice drink for flavoring my water.
Crackers - I eat crackers often and like these. They are all 'best by' 12/26These are all my way of adding to the pantry without a lot of cost
- Washed all the windows inside and the mirrors
- Just doing all the normal stuff around the house
My meals this past week:
Cream cheese/cheddar/summer sausage topped bagels - air fryer roasted, fresh veg & h/b egg on side
Tuna patty, sauteed brussel sprouts/corn and fresh veggies
Stew over mashed potatoes (both helpings from freezer) **it was yummy!
Philly steak (ground beef) & cheese open face sandwich and fries
Cream cheese/Swiss and veggie sandwich on toasted sourdough
Veggie fried rice, cukes and toms on side
l/o veg rice, jalapeno smoked sausage and cukes on side
SNACKS: root beer float, fruit, h/b eggs, toasted Eng. muffin
A lot of little things done for the most part - the flower bed was the only biggy. Boy was that tiring, this gal sure isn't as young as she would like to think!!! But it is done, and the cost was zero.
How has your week been? Any deals to add to the pantry? Has spring sprung in your area yet?
I sure hope this finds you all well and safe. Wishing each of you a great week ahead and a lovely holy week.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles, the Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit.
Psalms 34:17-18
Dear Lord we give thanks for all our many blessings this day. Please be with and help those who are going through illness for themselves or with their families and those who are grieving. It is often hard to keep faith when bad things happen. Please help each one know that You are with them and will hold them up through all things. We ask for healing of bodies, minds, and souls. Thank You for the most precious gift of our Savior, Jesus Christ. AMEN

Your food sounds great! I have made backed chicken with spinach for today. Will use that fake crab stuff in a salad tomorrow, I think. Took a survey of house to see what I was low on in regards to otc stuff and stocked up. For some reason, I can’t find chicken bullion cubes anywhere. I use them in my soups. Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteBaked not backed…. Cindy in the South
DeleteThat sounds good. I like to keep faux crab and lobster in the freezer - it is always good in pasta salad or regular salad.
DeleteWill look around here to see if I find chicken bouillon cubes. May need to send you some if I find them.
Have a great week.
Update! I found them in my own DG in my town!!! Right under my nose… lol. Thank you though! Have a fantastic and warm week!!! Cindy in the South
DeleteHappy Palm Sunday to you too, Cheryl. The birds are very active here too and we have a woodpecker who is bound and determined to peck a dead tree in the woods here. LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your sister will be getting to go home this week. You found some great deals at Kroger! The price on the sharp cheddar was a major score! Yummy root bear float! Those are so delicious.
They sure should have a headache shouldn't they? Goodness they rattle on.
DeleteThank you - so happy for her.
The cheese was crazy good price and not even close to the 'best by' date. That was all they had or I would have made a big haul of it.
It was quite tasty. Still had a root beer left from the holidays and had ice cream - so why not!
Have a lovely week.
Excellent devotional! Without the shed blood of our beloved Messiah Yeshua HaMashiach, we would be sunk, lost, with no hope for eternity.
ReplyDeleteLast night as I was saying my prayers, I was wondering how your sister is. Thanks for the update!
A root beer float is a special treat. I'll let you have my share! ha! You did find some good bargains at Kroger.
It's very satisfying to tidy up or completely redo a flower bed. It's too bad that all the weeds that we dig out, don't stay away. We had asparagus and green onions from the garden last Friday. I was going to make a tuna casserole but didn't have tuna so I used salmon. It was quite tasty. We are headed to Costco to pick up some bags of planting soil and will get a case of tuna while we are there.
Sunshine! Today and tomorrow will be optimal for working outside, as the rain will be coming in. Always chores to do inside.
See you Tuesday!
Yes mam, we are nothing without our Jesus Christ. Glad to be able to update. I hope she stays well.
DeleteIt was a treat. I was very happy with the deals I found. Makes stocking the pantry a lot easier to handle.
Gosh, picking goodies already - that is so cool. I bet the casserole was yummy.
Have fun shopping! I may go to Menards tomorrow.
Loving the sunshine - still not hot - but a nice day.
Have a super week.
-10C this am. The sun is shining brightly casting rainbows on the kitchen surfaces through the prism in the E window. The hill behind the house is laced with deer tracks, something I haven't seen for months. With the thaw/freeze cycles, the snow in the fields is crusty & I've seen deer walking on top of the snow. The driveway/yard was cleaned 4-5x last winter. This winter, it's been cleared 9-10x. Hopefully this snowfall fares well for the land which was near drought conditions last yr. I got 3x1mi walks in this past week & did some "Swedish death cleaning" by discarding 30yrs of journalling. I didn't read through all of it but I was reminded of both good & bad times from what I did read. I don't anticipate being on this rural property in 5 yrs. Friends in my circle have experienced health crisis this past wk - one required narcan to reverse the respiratory distress she experienced from an analgesic; another experienced a BP crisis after a cardiac ablation procedure. It seems that there are more frequent stories of health problems in my circle as we go into our 8th decade. My youngest granddaughter turned 16. They just don't stay babies forever. I had a lovely lunch & cards with a friend this week. In the kitchen: beef noodle bowl; marinated chicken skewers; lazy beet leaf holupchi; pea soup; lemon cheese cake; banana bread. Have a good week, Cheryl & all.
ReplyDeleteThe sunshine always make for a nice day. How cool to see the deer - I would love that. Sorry you had such a nasty winter - but all that melt will surely help the drought.
DeleteIt does seem the older we get, the more we hear of health issues among those we know. Many of my friends are losing mates now - it is all so sad. Hard to imagine we are of that age. I hope all your neighbors improve.
Your meals and food all sound good. Have a wonderful week.
Chilly but sunny here today.
ReplyDeleteGlad your sis is doing so well, happy for her.
That is a really pretty deviled egg arrangement in your first picture. :)
MaryB
It is sunny here, but chilly as well. It will get better.
DeleteThank you!
Isn't that cute? I thought someone might want to use that for Easter dinner.
Have a great week.
That is wonderful about your sister, Cheryl! All the best to her.
ReplyDeleteGreat price on the cheese. I buy Cabot extra sharp and pay twice as much “on sale.”
It is windy today. We are supposed to get rain on Tuesday, fingers crossed. I hope to wash my car that day, too, since it is my assigned watering day. Barbara M.
Thanks - I sure hope all goes well for her too.
DeleteCheese is pretty darn expensive - but that was on clearance for some reason. I grabbed it up.
I hope you get rain - I know you need it so. We have rain starting Wed. through most of the remainder of the week.
Have a super week.
Happy Palm Sunday. The weather is perfect today and the birds here are going crazy. I've been filling the bird feeder every other day or so and it is a large feeder. I think Binx has been seeing so many birds, he's tired of watching them.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!!
Thank you. It is lovely spring weather. The birds are such a joy to hear. Funny, that Binx is tired of them!!! Bitsy still like to follow them if he can from window to window.
DeleteHave a lovely week.
You found some great deals. Glad your sis is doing well.
ReplyDeleteI had my gallbladder removed Monday. Went well and I'm healing up decently.
I found some amazing clearance deals at Walmart. $1 for tubs of ice cream and popsicles, $2 for 6 and 8 count boxes of frozen hamburger patties and Whitecastle burgers, $3 for 2 pound boxes of diced chicken breasts, and markdown ricotta cheese, cream cheese spread, English muffins.
Glad you are recovering nicely. My nephew had his removed and his healing time was very reasonable - so hope you do super well.
DeleteYou did get some great deals. I don't go to WM often - but never see markdowns like that when I go. You did really well, especially the ice cream and meat!
Take good care and rest. Have a super week.
Hi Cheryl, I was musing about how productive your week was, then read you cleaned all your windows and just shook my head. Wow is all I can say. And your deals at the store are excellent, I was jealous of the meatball deal since that makes a meal super easy. I used to make a lot of meatballs and then freeze into portions. All good here in Phoenix, Palm Sunday service this morning was fantastic so a great start to the week. All the best, Hilogene in Az.
ReplyDeleteIt just looks like a lot of things, most don't take much time. I just do things instead of having them done. I have a whole week to do them all!!!
DeleteThe deals were good this time. I hadn't seen fresh meatballs in ages at a decent price - I know I could make them - but they are nice to get at a good price.
Glad you had a good service this morning. I hope it isn't too hot!
Have a wonderful week - good to hear from you!
I did not sleep well last night so the most I managed to do was make my to do list for the upcoming week, and bake bread. I have been sitting and knitting most of the day. Making good headway on the mitten project. Roast beef tonight I managed to get on sale, and enough leftovers for more meals later, plus I put a few slices in the fridge for sandwiches that Harvey loves.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Hope you had a better sleep last night. I hate it when that happens, it makes you feel off all day.
DeleteSounds like a relaxing way to spend the day. The roast sounds good - glad Harvey will get a sandwich he likes.
Have a lovely week.
